Waiting for breast clinic apt - very worried!

Good morning all.  I am new to the site and am a 40 year old (41 next week!) mum of two kids.  I watched the very thought provoking “The C-Word” at the weekend and it reminded me to do a quick self exam - my heart sank when I found a lump!  Anyway, I went to see GP yesterday thinking she would tell me it was just hormonal or even that she couldn’t feel anything.  She could feel it and has referred me under the 2 week system to the “one stop shop” at my local hospital.  I am now waiting for my appointment - my mind is just full of this now.   How does everyone else cope with concentrating on anything else!!!  I even dreamed about cancer last night (once I’d eventually fallen asleep!).   Having looked again, I can see that the breast with the lump looks lower than the other and there seems to be some slight swelling by the lump - I can also see a very faint slightly indented line that runs from the top of my breast to the bottom when I lift my arm up (it runs alongside the lump). Anyone know if that’s a good or bad sign or just nothing at all??   GP was great and said that it felt smooth and was quite moveable so that could be a good sign but she still wanted a specialist to check it out.  My grandmother died of breast cancer after being diagnosed at 44 and my mum had a benign lump removed in her early 40’s.  I am really worried… one minute I feel positive, the next I don’t and it goes on like that all day long!!

hi goodnight, so sorry to hear of your worry. the waiting is the hardest i had mammogram about 6 weeks ago then us and core biopsy, which came back inconclusive, my mum was then diagnosed with breast cancer thank god shes been operated on and all clear now, ive had excitional biopsy of papilloma and they then found another 2 lesions so get my results friday, like you a very strong family history, but please believe me and this does sound stupid you feel more at ease when you go to appointments its another step and everyone on the forums are caring and going through same thing i wish you all the best jules xx

I went to the docs on Tuesday and I too have been referred to the breast clinic due to my uninvited lump. Like you I feel like my life has been turned upside down. I can’t look at my two children without my heart breaking at the though of them having to see their mummy poorly. I haven’t got my appointment yet and I’m unsure if I want to. In some ways I dont want to know, but in others I can’t wait to know what I’m dealing with. I do hop all goes well for you and to be reading positive news very soon x

Hi,

I’ve just got back. My lump is a fat necrosis, I also have a fibroadema and a lot of cysts! I only thought there was one thing! She took biopsies, but seemed quite certain that they were all benign.

Thank you everyone for your support!

Thanks Jules and Rachie - Good news! Two cysts next to each other which they aspirated with a fine needle to get rid of them. Phew… All very scary but feel so lucky to have received positive news. It’s been such a support on these forums - thank you ladies xxx

Good luck for Wednesday. Fingers crossed for good news for you too xx

That is amazing news! Time for a glass of wine?

Good luck for next week Josisuch. Be nice to yourself this weekend

X

I had my appt today, been referred for ultrasound. I know the lump is a fibroadenoma (biopsied in October) but I am now worrying there’s something else round it! Feel like I’m back to square one. X
