I am so sorry to hear this. I hope you don't mind, but here is a link to some information on this website about Lobular Cancer:
I hope it will help you to understand it while you are waiting for your next appointment.
Big hugs, and good luck.
Well, the results are in and unfortunately they are positive for lobular cancer. Now waiting for appointment with the surgeon to discuss treatment plan. Hopefully will get an appointment within three days. Still trying to take everything in. They say it's small and they've caught it early, which is encouraging.
Just been told that the results are not ready, and won't be in until tomorrow Insha'Allah ( If God is willing ) which means it's not definite. If it's going to be 8 or 9 days and not 7, I wish they'd said that. Had myself all psyched up for it and m husband's taken the day off too. Oh well, nothing to be done about it - just have to wait. Nothing and no-one will hurry the system here.
Hi Switchwitch I too thought you were in the UK.Depending on your results you could be sent away and never to darken the door of the Dr at the clinic again. I hope that this is what happens for you as benign cysts etc can show up and need a biopsy.
Or you might need to have an appt with a BS/Onc. In UK this would be part of the next appt if your Dx does show some cancerous cells Here there are variations on this too.Basically other scans might be needed to decide on the treatment plan.
Please do not try to pre-empt what your results might be, easier said than done I know.Wishing you well please let us know how you get on J xx
In an earlier post I recommended the Helpline. I did not realise you were not in the UK. You can still access the Helpline from outside the UK- the number is (+44) 20 7620 0077
Very best wishes
Hi - not sure how it works abroad but if the results of the biopsy are positive you do need to be assigned to a breast cancer specialist - a surgeon who will talk to you about what they need to do surgically and then an oncologist who will talk to your about any further treatment ie chemo, radiotheropy and/or hormone theropy. fingers crossed you won't need this but good luck with the results and let us know how you get on xx
Thanks for the replies.
Yes - I will stick to this site and the MacMillan site ; a fine example of far too much information out there! The results will come from the screening centre. They were all very nice and spoke good English, so I'm hoping that someone there will be able to point me in the right direction if that should be needed.
Will let you know. xx
Thanks Saffronseed - that helps.
One more thing - if needed, is it a breast cancer specialist that I look for - or a general oncologist? My problem is that I live in the Middle East and the diagnosis was made at a screening centre, who then sent me to the lab with the samples which was part of a large hospital - one that I wasn't overly impressed with. I believe the lab is very efficient though. The problem being that there is no direct referral. I have to say that I'm very thankful that it's all been very quick so far. The mammogram, the ultrasound and the biopsy were all done in under an hour and a half. x

Just looking for a bit of advice really.
Went for a routine mammogram on Sunday, and was immediately called back for an ultrasound which was done by the specialist radiologist. After looking at the results she decided that a biopsy was needed of a mass on my left breast. This was done straight away and the samples went to the lab. Results will be back next Sunday.
I've always had lumpy breasts that have caused some concern in the past; but this is the first time I've had to have a biopsy. I'm 55, with no history of breast cancer in the family. My question is; what happens next if the cells are cancerous? I know it depends on a huge array of different things, but really just looking for some general answers. A bit flummoxed as I really didn't expect it; although I suppose not many people do.
