Re: Who Knows...?

And lumps in both breasts are even more unlikely to be cancer in young women.....

I have now had my boobs out and about in front of so many people that I am past caring - don't give it a second thought - that's all these people see all day and they'll probably be delighted to get a pert young pair after the droopy lot they usually get!!

Anyway - hopefully it will turn out to me nothing serious and you can put all this stress behind you....

Love Mary x

Re: Who Knows...?

Dear Karen

Nine out of ten lumps are benign so I hope yours is. The incidence of breast cancer in women under 30 is very low. Good luck

Re: Who Knows...?

Hi Becky,

Sorry you have had to join us but the other girls are right, the 4 hour appointment is normal if its a breast clinic appoinment. I went spoke to specialist, they had a feel, sent me for a mammogram on both breasts, then an ultrasound then saw the specialist again and then had core biopsies taken and made an appointment for a week for the results. I know what you mean about not getting your boobs out but they are all great and hopefully it will be nothing to worry about and you wont have to get used to it.

My appointment was within 10 days from seeing my GP, if you are worried go to see your GP again and ask for an urgent referral, usually within 2 weeks and was at Stepping Hill in Stockport if thats any use to you.

Good luck Hun. Fingers crossed for you. Shonagh xx

Thank you all for your advice xxx

I haven't had a mammogram yet, I think I am having that on the day. That's what I am most worried about I think! I don't tend to get my boobs out for random people, funny for my age eh!

I'm sure I will be ok but I think I just needed to get it off my chest, so to speak

Re: Who Knows...?

Hi Becky

So very, very sorry that you have joined us here, Karen is right in saying that you will have all the tests done in one day with your 4 hour appointment make sure you have your boyfriend, Mum or bezzy pal with you when you go for that. Have you had a mammogram yet? It is different all over the UK. I am in Aberdeen and had mammo within 2 weeks of seeing GP, and I then went to the one stop clinic here 2 weeks later and had all tests done on the one day. I was told that day of my initial dx (diagnosis) and knew that I had breast cancer and needed the mastectomy. Then 2 weeks later I got the full results of the cone biopsy and the surgery date was set then for sentinel node op 1 month later and mastectomy 1 week after that.

The waiting is the worst time Becky but remember that not all lumps are cancer, they can be benign and I do hope that is the case for you babes. Also if your GP could feel the lumps then they have a vague idea of the urgency of referral in each case.

You are so young and life is so unfair, we will all help you as much as we can on here. Have a look at the bcpals website that is younger ladies with some very clear advice on there and people of your own age who can fully relate to your journey. I am young at heart but am now 47.

Take care and the very best of luck to you, let us know how you get on please.

Re: Who Knows...?

Hi Becky

Sorry you have had to join us on this site but you will find some wonderful people to give you help and support. Referal times seem to be different all over the country and the waiting around is one of the hardest parts, can you ring up and see if you could have a cancellation?

The 4 hour appointment will mean that you will have all the tests done on one day, some ladies have had to go back on seperate days to get all the tests done.

Good luck and if you need any help please feel free to ask, Im sure one of the younger ladies will be on here shortly to offer you support.

Sending Hugs

Karen

Breast Cancer Care has published a leaflet about breast clinic referral which you may find useful to read whilst you are waiting for your appointment. I have given the link here:

If you feel it would help to talk things over with someone in confidence, please feel free to call our helpline on 0808 800 6000 which opens Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and Sat 9am-2pm.

Best wishes

Who Knows...?

Hi..
Just thought I'd leave a message. I don't know if I have anything at present, but I found a lump on my right breast around early January. After a week or so my boyfriend managed to get me to see my Dr, who confirmed a definate lump. She also found another on the left breast , which I had not. I'm just in a place at the moment where I don't want anyone to know, only my boyfriend and sister know, as well as my manager who I had to inform for time off.. I've finally received a letter telling me I'll have a 4 hr appointment on 26th March.

Just wondering how other's coped when waiting and is the wait normally this long ?
I'm just 23 and terrified.. you don't expect to have this worry at this age do you?
