Yellow Fever Vaccination

Hi,
It has been 2 years since I finished my chemo and radiotherapy. I am thinking of going on a mini safari… I think one of the recommendations is a yellow fever vaccination. Someone mentioned that as I have been previously immuno compromised, I might not be able to have the vaccination. Anyone know if this is true? I am going to check with my GP, as it was 2 years ago, didn’t think it would be a problem.

Hi Anny

I went to Morocco after my chemo and asked my oncologist about jabs…he was not keen. i think if it involves a live virus then i would steer clear and also probably avoid if only recommended.

Speak to your GP and have a great trip.

I went to Ecuador a few years back and wasn’t able to have the yellow fever jab because it’s a live virus.

As Jan says, your GP or practice nurse will definitely know.

I had chemo in 2003, went on safari last summer. I was absolutely fine with the yellow fever vaccination (which is a live vaccine) - no symptoms whatsoever - unlike my OH who had flu-like symptoms.

Best wishes,

Sue
