anastrazole and hair loss and flushes

Hi everyone, I have been on anastrasole/arimidex for a year and a half and the last month I have been seeing a lot of hair thinning,my hairdresser can’t see a visible sign for the loss but today at my annual review my breast specialist said it will be the anastrazole, even after I have been on it 18 months,he said don’t worry it want all fall out like it did when I had chemotherapy I had to laugh, better than crying.Just wondered if many people have had had the same problem? If so do u have any tips to reduce the problem.thank you all in advance.Sandy

Hi Sandy, I’ve got the same problem with thinning hair, been on exemastane (aromasin) for 18 months and my hair started thinning about a year ago. Its mainly on the top of my head and around the crown area. My doctor gave me a course of iron tablets which seemed to slow the thinning down but no one will actually say its the lack of hormones. The menopause can cause thinning of hair which is in efect the lack of hormones which is this vicious circle of hormone therapy. Not sure what your tablets do but could it be hormone related like mine?

You could see your GP and see if he can prescribe anything like iron, but don’t worry, I know its upsetting but I’m sure were not alone. Take care, Burnie xx

Thank you Bernie for your response ,I went through the menapause in my late 20’s and was on het until I was dxd with bc at the age of 45,I had to stop the hrt at my dx.I never had any real hairloss until chemotherapy in 2010,it all grew back a few months after chemotherapy finished I just thought it was strange that it had been ok until now,you just think you would get the side effects early on.I know I am lucky to be alive,so after my initial upset I know it is the least of my worries.on a positive note at my review today I have been put on the list to have my breast implants fitted,(have expanders at the moment).take care Sandy

Hiall
I have been saying that I am losing my hair since I started exemastane in December 2011 and it is comnforting to know that it is due to the meds. I have always had thick hair and it came back into thick & curly after chemo, now its thinning at the sides, luckly my hairdresser is able to cut it so it hides the bald patches.
I have also put on 7lbs since starting exemastane, is this due to the meds or am I just comfort eating, I feel pregnant all the time & full of wind…not nice.

Hi there ladies,I think it is hormone related, but I am also wondering if it is that I have been taking the generic brand and not arimidex for the last few weeks, without even really thinking about it,I asked in the pharmacy tonight and they say the active ingredients will ne the same but it may be the binding ingredients that could be contributing to the hair loss,it is cheaper they said for me the have Anastrazole,I am going to have steroid hip injections next week with my go so I am going to find out if I can be given arimidex ,I shall see, seems a bit of a coincidence to me.I think weight gain is due to it as well,I managed to loose 2 stone which I had put on during chemotherapy, now I am having to keep track of everything I eat,I only have to smell cake or chocolate and I put weight,ha ha.Sandy
