Hi Lisa..just read your post...Im actually in Solihull so am not far from you ! I take it your suffering with your chemo ?
Ive just had my 2nd lot of chemo and havent found it too bad...thought Id feel much much worse. I've got to start injecting myself today to produce more white blood cells..cos mine dropped too low with my first lot of chemo and I ended up in hospital in isolation for a week !
Try and keep your spirits up...as hard as that is xx
Hi everyone,????.I still haven't got the hang of this forum chat. posted one message ,seems to have disappeared into the ether.:-0. Hoping to chat to anyone from Tamworth area. New here and a bit lost. Chemo knocking me about a bit, but keeping my spirits up.Would love to hear some good tips on keeping fluids down. on Ice Chips at the mo.Lisaxx
Hi , this is I suppose for Mazaroo although if anyone else can ehlp it would be greatly appreciated.
I was diagnosed in 2006 and had mastectomy, chem and rads and was advised against an immediate reconstruction. I was booked in to have a tram slap done on October 2007 with Mr Thomas at Good Hope but had areally bad case of nerves and cancelled on the day of op - I just couldn't go through with it as I wasn't particulary happy with Mr Thomas or the whole procedure.
At a hospital focus groups last year I met a lady who had also been unhappy woth Mr Thomas and the BCN had referred her to miss Kat at solihull who she said was fab. I also managed to get referred to Miss Kat and she was indeed fab! Howvere there was a long waiting list. this was June / july 2008 - I am still waiting.
I have had 3 providional dates all cancelled and have been told this week that there are 5 ahead of me one of whom has been waiting 2 years!!!
I really can't face another 12 months of waiting so have contacted BCN at Good Hope to see if I have any other options and she has suggested an appointment with Mr Khalil so Maz I wondered how you got on with him? Also is there anyone else in Birmingham area who can recommed a surgeon - I think I will need a lot of TLC to get me through the Op but I really want to have it done. I don't mind which hospital I go to.
Hi Sharon ..... you certainly have your hands full and a busy lifestyle ....cant help with the chemo advice I am afraid I am oestregen receptive and caught it early so escaped it no lymph involvement .
I can help with the mastectomy and recon aspect but the BCC HELPLINE is a good first call I did when I was fisrt dx they have a lot of info and support ..I am always here just for a friendly ear and support as all the ladies on here are ...couldnt have got through it without them personally ..it seems to me the younger ladies do have to suffer more than us old birds !!! and it just aint fair especially with 7 ??? kids to look after !I wish you good luck and positive vibes ... you can and will do it .you sound like a determined and focused young lady !!!!

hi all,I am a 38 yr old mother of 7,work part time as a receptionist and have my own business doing nail extensions and tanning.I will tell you a little bit about my nasty boob.
Well I went to good hope with a lymph lump under my armpit last september, biopsy and mammo came back neg.long story short after being in pain with my shoulder and arm(same side) and finding another lump i was told it was prob hormones....blood tests said no i so i insisted on going back to g/h.I went last week they didnt want to mammo me again, done u/s it showed black tunnels.Mr miller was amazed and somewhat confused,he asked me to go in for mammo and mri and biopsies on both lumps last monday.Yesterday i went for the results its grade 3 cancer 3 tumours in my left breast to include the one lymph node, theyre sending me for a bone scan.the mri showed a lymph node looking a bit dodgey under the other arm but they say theyre not concerned .. bit like last time realy !!!i have to have my hickman line in nxt tues,im crapping my panties!!! and im wondering when the chemo will start ? i had two options take off breast in two weeks, followed by chemo, they cant organise the recon so soon tho so id have to wait for that or i can start chemo straight away for 6 and a half months three weeks apart, then after that ive asked for a double mastectomy and recn to be done at the same time to be taken from my tummy, think radiotherapy comes into it somewhere aswell it says on the letter.Doc was reluctant to do the double jobby as its a longjob and i may have to go to a different hospital with a larger plastic surgery unit.im obviously a newcomer and im looking for any useful advice,im so drained for the last four months ive been telling my doctor im so tired i must have an illness,he said r u sure ur not depressed! im the most upbeat person there is! i was meant to be getting married july 19th since i found out i have re organised my wedding to this sunday 5th april, luckily everyone has accomodated us so its going to be the same !!!
How soon does ur hair fall out,he said mine will cus is going to be strong dose..will i be able to look after my babies ??do housework etc ??? elaine the nurse said i may put on weight ?? i dont understand why ??xxx
Evening Sharon - welcome to the Tamworth brigade ( or Sutton )
I've got a Hickman line in and they started my chemo 3 days after it went in.
I had a left mastectomy in Jan 09, and am now 3/4 way through the first half of chemo - does that make sense ?
I'm also the real old bird of the group ( 62 ) so we're quite a broad age range.
If there's anything I can help with , just ask
hi smallstar .welcome to the club no one wants to join ! are you in Tamworth ? we are yet to arrange our meet yet but you are more than welcome ...are you having or had surgery ? I have just had LD flap recon after disaster of first one after mastectmy in Nov207 on my third op now and have decided if this fy ails thats it dont think my body could take anoth allyicser this one has battered me mentally and physically ..much further on my journey than you ...and a lot older I was 52 when dx wouldnt have benefited from chemo so escaped it now on Tamoxifen
every ones treatment is tailor made for them .... you do get over the initial shock and its good to come on here chat with others in the same situation and know how you are feeling .
hello, can i join in if you meet up please ??
i just got told today i have grade 3 cancer with three tumours in my right breast after a mis diagnosis in september last year..i need some help and answers ! im going to get a hickman line put in nxt week will they do the chemo the same day?
my names sharon by the way im 38 and in autopilot !
I'm really sorry I haven't been on here for ages.
I'm having a bit of a rough time with my chemo at the moment. With the aches and pains and sudden sickness it's abit difficult to do a lot at times.
The onc team say it's because of the build up of chemo and it should subside afterwards. I suppose after 6 months before and only a few months break and another 6 months it's a bit harsh on my body. I'm not bothered as the chemo is working and it has shrunk the tumour.
I hope you are all ok and battling with whatever you are having thrown at you at this present time.
well i'm on holiday for a few days now to try and relax.
speak to you all soon
Tuesday was the third out of 4 doses of epirubicin - after that I have 3 cycles of CMF ( another 3 months ), then 3 weeks of rads, so I reckon that should take me through to August if everything stays on schedule.
Apart from the first cycle of chemo, which really messed me about, I haven't done too badly really. I've had no urge to return to work ( it seems it's all politics since we've had a new CEO ) but after week 1 of the chemo cycles since, I've just wanted to get out in the garden or get out down the town , so I suppose that's a good sign.
Hope the drain visit goes Ok - having seroma on your back must make sleeping really difficult .
Speak soon - regards, Ros
hi ros ..... you are lucky you get paid ..I dont which does annoy me rather ...as for sore my back scar is huge my front is a sight and I have a seroma the size of a melon on my back ... back at GH on tuesday 31 so they may drain it .... it is a big op but after the other going so wrong and having gone this far had to give myself a second chance ...but this is my last chance dont think my body could take the battering any more !
Hows the chemo going ...have you many more ? apart from the chemo effects how are you doing and how do you feel in yourself .Hope Neil and Tam are looking afer you xxxxx
I missed your last post Maz cos 24/3 was my third chemo day and I just wanted to sleep for the rest of the day - it's now day 3 and I feel totally zonked which will presumably last until Monday.
Surely you're not missing work ? My boss keeps emailing me news bulletins, but honestly I couldn't give a monkey's as long as they keep on paying me.
Are your bits less sore now ? I never fancied a recon cos of all the other sore areas - 1 10" scar across the front was more than enough.
All the best, Ros
hi all where have yu gone ??? suppose its cos I am off work with nothing to do ..god I am sooooo bored ....hope you are all doing good and if you arent love and hugs and hope yu feel better soon xxxx
Tippy .... I have never been sick on Tamoxifen and too old to be preggers ...you forget I am an old bird that invaded the young womans thread :)lol yeh my appointment happened really fast didnt have time to think about it had it on 09/03 home monday 16 back today to see if the drains can come out a lot more to it than the other ops I have had just hope it works as it is my last attemp at recon !!so far so good to so feeling pos at the mo

Sukes - glad you had a fab holiday
Lisa - sorry you are having a rough time @ the mo - hang in there.
Anyome I have left off - hope you are all well
On the subjet of Tamoxifen - does it make anyone heave & sometimes throw up. Been having a few probs with it, told the Onc & he just said I was being a stupid & was I preggers!.
I would still like to join the meet up ( If you are all still speaking to me after me useless attempt at keeping logged on)

firstly maz glad your op went well and your back home.
storewoman - glad your 2nd chemo wasn;t as bad as expected. it will be over b4 u know it. The weather at the moment is lovely and i too have been in the garden trying to start my green patch
lisa - sorry to hear the chemo has knocked you about a bit but i'm sure you will pick up soon as i know you are a fighter.
i've been okay being back at work is giving me less time on the computer. I've got a back ache at the moment which is really worrying me. Will wait a week or so and if not go to the docs. Its all rush rush rush , coming back from work picking kids up doing tea and cleaning etc etc., Bal has agreed to a cleaner now and she came on sunday - it was great cause i actually got thekids involved in the gardening not just infront of the tv or shouting at them for making a mess and i really hate shouting at them.
We must get together soon as it would be great to c u all
hope all is okay and i will spk to u soon
My second chemo hasn't been as bad as #1, so I've been pottering around in the garden ( wearing gloves of course )
#3 chemo is on 24/3 so I guess things will go back downhill for a few days afterwards.
Things OK with you now Zena ? and Sukes ? and sugarsnap ?
glad all went well Maz.
How is everyone?
Are we still up for this night/day out?
hi all.. back home today ..drains still in ....sore as hell but so far so good .hope you are all doing ok..nice to see the spring sunshine .x
I can post on this thread OK, and reply to a PM that someone has sent me, but each time I try to compose a new PM and submit it, it doesn't go.
The member's name at the top has a box with a cross in it - any idea what I'm doing wrong ?
I'm sorry I haven't been on for so long but have been really poorly.
My bloods were low when I had my chemo last and I think it has taken it's toll on my body this time, but I'm not bothered as it is working so throw it all at me is what I say.
Sugarsnap - Welcome and of course you can join our group. I hope you are ok and will be able to join us on our meet as soon as everyone is good.
Sukes - how is work going? so glad you had a good holiday you really needed it
Storewoman - Sorry I didn't get your pm send it to me again and of course I will answer.
To all - When Maz is out of hospital and around anyone's treatments we MUST arrange this meeting for us all. I am so looking forward to putting faces to everyone.
big hugs and kisses
hi all hope everyone is good ....will be going in to GH this pm bed permitting surgery scheduled for tomoz ...so will be off line for a while ...will arrange our meet up for when i get home xxxxxxc u all soon hope everyone is doing well x
Hope you are ALL well. Soz i haven't posted on here for a while as i have finally returned back to work and getting into the routine of things is well ......challenging with 3 little ones.
It feels fab to be back at work but occassionally i do get tearful and its hard holding tears back. Today i had to complete a return to work form and how stupid was i getting emotional over it!
Anyhow i will write soon again but i need sleep and my legs are hurting from driving as i haven't done much of that in the last year. Just wish now i brought a car with cruise control but ohh well.
Take care all
Hi all things have moved on ...got a call from GH today pre-op tuesday ....Admitted 08/03 OP next day ...yikes ps is worried my recon may rupture !! so providing they have a bed ...all systems go !!!how are you all doing ???((((((((O)))))))))))))hugs to ya
Hi sugarsnap ...hope you will be lucky like me and have no side effects mind you I am 53 ....suppose you are considerably younger prob the same age as my kids !!!!LOL:)
Any time will suit me - as I live alone it won't bother anybody as one day is very much like the rest. Once we've decided where, I can offer transport if anyone needs it.
The pleasures keep on coming - my scar is now infected ( the iron corset wasn't right ) and Gp says I've got thrombo-phlebitis and need a Doppler scan ( whatever that might be - just hope it doesn't involve more needles )
Tanya ordered my wig some time after 11-00 on Tuesday - it was delivered by Royal Mail at 10-25 on Wednesday ! (Since when did our PCT lead the way ?)
Looking forward to hearing from and meeting everyone
I will be having my first Tamoxifen tonight before I go to bed. I'll let you know how it goes as the week goes on. I am a bit nervous about it. My periods stopped towards the end of chemo, so thats one down already.
I had a WLE but was advised a mx as I have BRCA1 mutation.
Do you take calcium tablets since being on tamoxifen? My GP has prescibed me some, they taste horrible and I have to chew the buggers!
Come on then girlies where are we going ?? I am quite flexible so will go with what suits everyone else ...just dont do late week nights as I start work at 7 .00 and have to get up to take my dogs out before I go ..but not sleeping at he mo so getting up isnt the problem its stayin awake !!
just want to meet everyone in the flesh ... bet we arent anything like we all imagine !!!
hi sugarsnap welcome to little a ,club ... the club that no one wants to be a member of .. but as we are we will just make the best of it .
Have you had a mast or wle ??? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxhow are you getting on with the Tamoxifen ? I have been on it for over 16 mths I have no side effects other than no periods !! I often wonder if it is working cos so many people get really bad menopausal symptoms !have you noticed anything or is it early days we have a good old natter on here ..so join in anytime xxx Maz
Do you mind if I butt in?
I live in Tamworth and was dx in June 08. I had surgery and chemo at Burton. I am starting Tamoxifen today and due to start rads at the QE on monday.

big hugs and kisses
Sukes - really glad you had such a good holiday and enjoyed the freedom and fresh food.
I am flexible for the meeting and will go with the flow so ladies if you work is it better for a saturday or what please input your opinions for this so we can finally put faces to these names!!!
Thanks ladies for the nice comments for my good news I was so excited I had to force myself to go to sleep this morning at 4:30am listening to the birds singing it was lovely tho.

big hugs and kisses
Lisa forgot to mention:
Happy birthday to you
happy birthday to you
happy birthday to lisa
happy birthday to you
love and huggs
firstly i would jus like to say lisa i am so so so pleased for you and so so so glad chemo is working. Its a worrying time and it great to hear your news.
I'm back by the way from india and had a fantastic time. the weather was mid 20's during the day and about 10ish at nite. Food was so fresh it was great. Needed a veggie curry so go to the fields, pull out fresh herbs and veg and cook and the taste was fantastic. The kids enjoyed the freedom and space. I enjoyed the temples and am so pleased i went. For the first time since dx did i go a day or two without even thinking of cancer.
Ive also been back to work today which was good but tiring as i'm still on the indian clock.
are we planning a day time or evening gathering? Bal works shift work and I will have to sort out child care unless its daytime?
hi all lisa ignore my PM ...i was worrying over nothing .really good news for you XXXX
looking forward to meeting everyone in the near future xxxxxx
That is so good to hear Zena - I spent last night reading the whole thread, and I don't know how you've kept going.
My next chemo id March 3rd ( bloods permitting + other stuff they weren't interested in yesterday )
Love and best wishes
Had some fab news today best birthday prezzie ever.
My chemo is responding really well and they think all the cancer has nearly gone. yippee
just got to get the 5 cycles of chemo in me now to get best results i think.
Hope everyone is ok
I think sukes must be back very soon so someone make a decision on some dates for us to meet up.
My best times are 4th - 9th march so i'm in my good times after chemo if these are any good for anyone, then its just where is good for everyone to meet up.
Love and big hugs xxxxx
hi Ros ...how you get on at GH today ??? I aint back there till end of march unless my op date comes through before then but I doubt it .How you feeling ?
Bit quiet on here at the mo...but It goes like that sometimes .message me if you need a chinny xxxx
Thanks Maz - the other reason I decided against a recon was that I didn't fancy the craters over the rest of my body where they had to dig out enough tissue and stuff to match my surviving DD.
The surgeon made several comments about my large breasts, so I can only think he was relieved he didn't have to rebuild the missing one.
SW...i did consider not having anything this time cos i was a bit gutted that it hadnt worked but I went thru all that c**p when i had my mastectomy and done at he same time I thought cant give up now ...using a back muscle this time !!! be lucky if I get an A cup as Im not the fattest person in the world ..lol so onward and upward eh ..good luck at the hosp this week .x
hi Lisa ...have pm you telling yu how to add contacts .
SW .... moan away ..you will have to listen to me shortly when i have my Recon undone and done all over again !!!!! oh the joys
