Dawn - I'm sending you a large virtual hug should you want it. I can empathise. I had a reconstruction done by a breast surgeon at my local hospital at the same time as my mastectomy last year. It was bad. I mean - a real botch job. I remember feeling so angry and depressed and sad that someone could make such a mess of my body! The cynic in me says there is so much pressure on the NHS to do reconstructions that there are many surgeons out there who don't have the experience and specialist skill to do them well .... I felt like someone had "practiced" on me.
Anyway ... I got my GP to refer me to a different breast unit at an excellent teaching hospital (I had problems with my original hospital apart from the reconstruction). I've since had the reconstruction revised by a fabulous plastic surgeon, and you wouldn't believe the difference. Please hold on to that thought ... it can, and will, look a lot better. So ... yes definitely see a good plastic surgeon, I wouldn't let your original surgeon operate on you again. Your breast care nurse sounds great - could she make an appointment if you want to stick to the breast team you're with now? Or if you'd be happy to go to a different hospital could you speak to your GP?
Also - I really wouldn't waste any time if I were you ... you deserve to get the best job possible ... and good plastic surgeon's waiting lists for reconstruction revisions are LONG ....
Best of luck with whatever you decide.
i just read your post and wanted to say that the same thing happened to me a few years ago. Will post later with my thoughts on your situation.
Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time Dawn. I've had the same result on my reconstructed side since early last year and have also been offered further surgery but don't know if I want to go through any more if it isn't necessary. Sometimes the shape of the "new" breast can change when it settles down so just stay in touch with your breastcare team and I wish you well.
