Re: chemo starting August

Hi Angiebun and welcome to the BCC forums

In addition to the support here please feel free to call our helpliners for further practical and emotional support on 0808 800 6000, lines are open weekdays 9-5 and Saturdays 10-2

Here's a link to the BCC 'Treatments' area of the site which I hope you find helpful, I am also posting a link to the 'Starting chemo in July' thread where you can speak to others starting treatments at the same time:

Re: chemo starting August

Hi to all you lovely people

I have recently been diagnosed with BC. Large lump palpable at 5cm although ultrasound showing 28mm. Due to size being treated as invasive but nothing so far detected in nodes. Straight in with chemo starting on Thursday if some recent dental work has settled. Picc going in tomorrow. Am I allowed to say I am crapping myself? Feel like I have just been given a death sentence...every morning I open my eyes realise its real, cry, stop then get up as though its a normal day. I go to work come home and cry some more. Seem to be sleeping an awful lot but don't know why as not on any meds...

Re: chemo starting August

Hi Maz

The helpline is open until 2pm today if it would help to talk things through, 0808 800 6000

Take care

Re: chemo starting August

Hi Maz,

That's a really difficult one.

If I was you I'd talk to the helpline, but in the end I would trust my gut feeling and go with that.

I sometimes think that's all we have when dealing with this cancer - the Dr's know so much that we can't begin to understand, and there's so much they admit that they don't know as well.

Good luck with your decision xx

Re: chemo starting August

Sorry all you must think I'm losing my mind too.  I've already posted this!!! I'm really struggling about this trial I would like to take part but worry that long term having Hercepton for only 9 weeks will leave you vulnerable for the damn thing to reinvent itself and come back!  Just not sure as side effects from Hercepton look scary and 9 weeks looks very tempting....oh I don't know ,,,,, help!

Maz the demented x

Re: chemo starting August

Hi Jayni

The Oncologist apt went ok have to have Hercepton as well as Chemo and Rads.  They asked me is I'd like to take part in a trial.  Not sure it means you could only have hercepton for 9 weeks instead of 52.  They said studies fron Finland were good and there was no difference however they need more women to take part 3000 apparently.  Has any one else been asked?

Re: chemo starting August

Hi Jayni,

Glad to hear your nodes are clear, and the mx healing well 🙂 that's good news and must be reassuring for you.

I've 6 x chemo treatments coming, I completely understand your worry about this next step - already having lost a breast, we're about to lose our hair, not the most easy thing to have happen!

I spoke to the girl who cuts my hair yesterday, she's going to cut it short in stages, and all off if/when necessary, it helps having spoken to her.

I have some cording too I think, tight painful feeling under the axilla and down my arm to the elbow. I'm doing the exercises! I'm seeing the breast nurse later so will mention it I think x

Re: chemo starting August

Hi maz

I had appt with consultant yesterday. Nodes clear and mx healing well. Clear margins and her+. I have some cording so have extra stretches to do. Next wait is for appt with oncologist. Bcn described the likely treatment and it sounded just like yours. 6 chemo treatments and herceptin. Very worried about next step but know it all has to happen.bad enough with left side mx let alone all my hair falling out!

How are you doing macky?

Re: chemo starting August

Hi Maz, I have sent a pm x

Re: chemo starting August

Hi Macky and Jayni

So nice to chat to you.... be even better if the circumstances were different!

Had apt with Onc to have Gold standard treatment apparently!! which consists of 3 FEC and 3 Tax and Hercepton Radiotherapy and something else for 5 years! Then she asked would I be interested in taking part in a trial starting Hercepton at the beginning of Chemo and only having 3 lots with first 3 cycles of Tax or the other one starting Hercepton at the beginning and then a break the with Radiotherapy.  But not as many as the usual treatment,,,,,,I'm not sure will need to read alot about it... so hard to make a decision but am tempted as studies from Finland were positive but small so now they are recruiting 3000 women so maybe you will also be asked?

I have stage 2 Er+ Her+  and tonight I'm probably more down than I have ever been I know I'll be ok but it's the thought of the next few months and hair loss etc oh yes I had WLE and removal of nipple so only coming to terms with that, Hope to hear from you both and we can keep in touch during the next few months

Love Maz x

Re: chemo starting August

Re: chemo starting August

Hi, I've had mastectomy and axillary node clearance. It's all scary stuff. I think I'm just about catching my breath this week, and trying to prepare myself for the next phase xx

Re: chemo starting August

Hi maz

Re: chemo starting August

Hi, I'm due to start at the very end of July, very nervous about it x

Re: chemo starting August

Hi Maz

It may help to attract more users to your thread if you re post in the chemotherapy section, there is a heading there called 'chemo monthly threads' and you could add your August one there. Find it under 'Going through treatments'.

Hope that helps
Best wishes
Lucy BCC
