Re: fluid build up after being drained

Hi, I've had a similar experience too. My drain became ineffective 7 days after anc and lumpectomy, so nurse took it out last Friday. Saturday was fine, but i was worried on Sunday by excessive swelling so went to walkin centre, eventually after 2 hours seen by a surgeon, but they said I'd be better off leaving it alone as my body could cope with it. As I had an appointment today for results of operation, I left it, however last night it was so swollen I felt like I had a really hot orange under my arm and I hardly slept at all. So, I rang the BC nurse first thing this morning to be told sorry but results aren't ready yet, but come in and well drain your arm. I can't tell you the relief it was. I'd been carrying around 150ml of goo! I'm sure you'll be fine overnight, but as I've been told now, get the draining done on a weekday as there aren't many people working on the weekends who know what to do, you're lucky your district nurse can do it, mine couldnt Or at least didn't want to. I think this swelling up is worse than the operation. Lets hope it stops soon.

Re: fluid build up after being drained

I am suffering at the moment. Had over 800mls drained in the last 5 days. Got it drained this morning and can feel it building up again already. Its getting me down now.
You will be fine though until tom. Maybe just a bit sore and uncomfortable.

Re: fluid build up after being drained

After my mx I had to have a seroma drained twice a week for six weeks until it finally stopped. The fluid is really uncomfortable, but several times I had 250ml+ withdrawn, you should be ok until tomorrow. Hope this helps.
