Geordielass - sorry you find yourself here, i had my Mx on 4th may after 8 cycles of chemo. Im recoveing well, still a bit sore but no longer on pain relief. You will be OK, you will get through this.

Re: newbie

Hi - I was diagnosed on the 18th April with multifocal ILC and Im having a left sided masectomy on the 12th June as well :). I am getting married today after being with my partner for 26 years (thought it was time to make an honest man out of him). I intend to forget about cancer today. I'll pick it up tomorrow.

Hi Geordielass
So sorry to hear your news, you'll get lots of help and support on this site, it's been my lifeline. I was diagnosed in January and had a lumpectomy and lymph node clearance, am currently undergoing chemotherapy, only 2 more to go thank goodness. I too was terrified of surgery as like you hadn't had anything since my tonsils were taken out at the age of 7. My surgeon and anaesthetist were brilliant but I didn't really feel reassured, however they were both right! I found it hard being prepared for surgery and being surrounded by people who had taken my control away, I sobbed all the way to theatre, but it was like i'd blinked - literally, it wasn't like sleeping, it was like blinking and I was in recovery. My anaesthetist said he could give me a sedative once i'd signed my consent form for surgery but unfortunately my surgeon was late doing it so there wasn't time for me but it might help you to discuss that option with both your surgeon and anaesthetist. Post op I was fine and in no pain at all but appreciate your operation is different to mine. You'll probably be better posting in this thread for newly diagnosed, they'll be lots of people around to give you support there.

Hi Geordielass65
Welcome to the Breast Cancer Care discussion forums, you've come to the right place for some good, honest support from the many informed users of this site. As a new user your post would probably get more response from others if it was posted in the 'Newly diagnosed' forum. Normally I would be able to move this for you but at the moment we are experiencing some technical difficulties so I will copy your post and start a new topic for you in the 'Newly diagnosed with breast cancer forum' (you can find this if you look at the list on the left hand side of this page and click there). If you have any problems finding this please don't hesitate to ask.
I have also put for you below the link to one of BCC's publications you may find helpful. As well as this, if you need to talk to someone in confidence then the team on our helpline are here to support you, calls are free, 0808 800 6000 lines open Mon-Fri 9-5 and Sat 10-2
