I had the bra on off on off for a few different reasons over my recovery but I am back wearing a soft one finished my rads end 28 October so all should be good from now on hopefully. My boob is still swollen in sort of ridges around the scar and my nipple is super super sensitive looking more like a walnut when it gets cold. But I feel on the mend, I get fatigue but I think its getting better slowly, I have wrapped all the Christmas presents up today took me 4 hours (we have 7 grandchildren) needed a serious half hour rest after that it just comes in waves. Good luck to all, keep smiling xxx
Thank you Seabreeze and Pamilicious for you advice. I have got myself cotton bras as I normally try to wear them anyway but will also try adding an extra layer of cotton. Hopefully I will be able to avoid some of the problems you ladies have suffered.
Take care and best wishes to you both. x
I start my rads on the 27th Nov and after reading all your posts I have to say I'm not really looking forward to it. They don't warn you of any of this when you go for your planning appointment. If you tell people you are having radiotherapy they say "oh that's the easy part you don't get side effects with that' Well oh yes you can get rather horrible side effects. Will now be telling these people about the tiredness and the possibility of burns which can carry on even after you have finished the treatment. Good luck to you all and hope you all recover as soon as possible. x
I have a burn in the crease of my breast I have been given Mepilex Lite as a dressing but its does not seem to be getting any better after a week any ideas what I should expect next?
I got burnt during rads but I slathered aqueous cream all over several times every day, and wore old cotton tee shirts. The burns weren't too bad, the skin went red then brown sort of spotty, peeled a bit the healed up quickly. The key seemed to be using the cream every couple of hours, and I used it instead of soap. It's about £5 for a big tub that lasts for ages and I still use it now as a body lotion.
Hope this helps
I finished my rads 10 days ago, today I have noticed some broken skin underneath my boob in the crease, my luck its Friday but after ringing hospital, they advised me to see the doctor and ask for Mepilex Lite, I got the prescription and now every chemist I have been to does not have it, I have the prescription at Asda who are trying to get me it for tomorrow I am awaiting a phone call as I type. I know I have not got to put any cream on any skin breakages, any tips for over night?
Hi Caroline Welcome
Has you will see down below I have mentioned that I have a really bad burn. I have seen several people regarding this some consultants and radiologist. The normal range or burn, is pink, bright red with heat , and also there can be a brownish tint to. I am not a doctor so cant advice you but, I think that the brown is okay as long has it is not to painful. Where some of my skin went from red to slight recovery it went to a brown marking, in the shape of the treatment of the boob.
Keep a close eye on it you can always ring your hospital radiotherapy unit where you had the treatment or your BCN nurse for advice.
Unforuntately I am having such a terrible time, I am in such a mess physically and mentally, they are saying that it could actually take a few years to settle down. I am on high dosage of drugs just to get through the day.
Hi I'm new on this board. I just wanted to comment on the skin burns. I completed my 4 weeks of Radiotherapy last week and my skin has continued to alter each day. It started off a little pink, but now the whole breast, armpit and under the breast have become really sore, and it looks like a dark rash. I wonder if it has to get worse before it gets better. I am also really drained of energy from about Midday. Anyone else?
Just to say that I had my last radiotherapy treatment (of 15) finished on the 18th July.
Since then I have been in and out of hospital with a Radiation burn and infection.
It is really bad, but at last now it is being investigated properly with a CT and MRI scan.
It looks like the burn is a much more than what they expected, and the burn is further than the patch f the boob area.
Mine just started with a little redness, and the burn didnt come out till 4 weeks after.
I burnt very badly in my armpit and they gave me a cream called flamazine - it was amazing stuff. Definitely speak to them tomorrow when you go in for your next treatment and they should be able to help.
Good luck xx
I absolutely slapped on E45. And I hate to admit it - but I only showered, or washed the area once a week. Stinky and a bit messy with the cream, but I didn't want to expose my skin too much. It worked really well! I'd advise you to see your breast nurse though. Good luck & best wishes x x x
