spread

Hi, dose cancer spread while you have chemo.

Rose.

Hi Rose

I believe that in the vast majority of cases the answer is no - but there are some cancers that are resistance to the current chemo drugs.

Hi Rose, I’m not qualified medically and without knowing why you are asking it’s a bit tricky to answer.

Chemo before surgery does two jobs - it tries to shrink the tumour(s) and it zaps any stray cells that may be lurking elsewhere that are too small to be seen on scans.

Chemo after surgery is to zap any stray cells (the tumours are gone by then)

So long as it works, then the cancer won’t spread while you’re having chemo.

If you are worried about something that makes you think it might have spread I would phone your BCN or your doctor to get advice and if needed to be checked. It is so easy to worry about every little ache or pain, every tiny bump that we would enver notice before, and they are used to scared people calling them to ask. Otherwise you could call the helpline (number on main website)

Hope this helps a little bit.

Yes, indeed it can, and does. I have had this happen several times.

Sadly it does.
