Re: starting chemo in July

Hiya toffee
I on Herceptain too. I having no 8 next week. I put on just over a stone! I have been following the diet thread and find it very interesting. I was at hosp for 3 month check up and asked there re diet and reacurance and she said low fat diet so my thinking is to cut down on the choc and crisps and in my mind set tell myself I don't want to go through that again if I can try and help it. So I am cutting down!!!!
The exercise thing ...... I don't have much energy tired all the time but out with the dog helps. My breast care nurse said to excersise to build my strength up. Hope this helps
Take care Silver xxx

Re: starting chemo in July

Hi All,

I haven't been on here for a while and it looks like us July ladies may have got lost...

I've had 2 of 18 Herceptin now and been on Tamoxifen since December - so far so good, no major side effects other than a bit of tiredness and achey type stiffness...

I don't know about anyone else but i've put on nearly 2 stone since this whole thing started - I keep blaming the medication but I know that it's really the vast amounts of food that i've been stuffing in to my gob! I'm not sure on the best course of action trying to lose what i've gained - keep thinking that I should excercise but i'm abit scared because of the Herceptin....is anyone else in/been in this situation and have some wodnerful words of wisdom?

Re: starting chemo in July

Hi Everyone

I have started to exercise now by getting out walking. I have three targets set already, a 10.5k walk on April 15 which I am organising to raise funds for the local MacMillan Centre and the hospital Red & White Appeal. The Walk the Walk in London on May 12 and the local Race for Life in July.

I am hoping after Rads I can get swimming again.

I got my new false boob yesterday it was quite funny I felt like I was in Ollianders Wand Shop from Harry Potter. All these shelves with boxes and you try them on like you would shoes.

My hair is getting thicker put mainly on top, the sides are still quite thin and greyish but the top is thick and quite dark. My sister reckons I look like a badger.

I have been feeling tired this last week, having a short sleep when I get home from work. Mind you we are busy at work at present.

Have a good week end

Anne xx

Re: starting chemo in July

Hi Everyone,

SJ6666 Sorry the Herceptin and steroids are disagreeing with you, I had a reaction to the Herceptin and have the pre-meds to persuade my body to take the Herceptin..... Stoopid innit? taking one poison so I can have another one.

So far I've managed 2 water sessions and 2 circuit sessions. I am trying the gym tomorrow.

Energy levels are really getting better now I'm only on Herceptin.

Hair is starting to come back ontop, but I'm still smooth around the temples. Sods law, but I had to go after the hairs on the top lip this weekend. Bah Humbug.

Re: starting chemo in July

Hi All

My hair is getting thicker every week and although it started off quite white it is getting darker as it gets thicker, fingers crossed. You can put a awash in colour on your hair as an interim until the 6 months are up. My hairdressers said to check with the ONC or GP.

I am waiting on appt still to start Rads nothing as yet and they I was to start beginning of Feb.

I also started the Tamoxifen on Sunday, so far no different than before although do not seem to be getting as many flushes now.

Hope everyone is ok

Hi lady's
My hair is short and grey wasn't this grey before so hopefully change it is getting darker every day so there is hope! I know what you mean re wacky would be fun but not allowed with my job so. As for losing it again gypsy sorry that's pants ! all I had meeting with my boss re when going back and it's all happening 13th feb so hope I be even stronger by then. I had third dose of herceptin today and wasn't nice the steroids and piritin I was given to stop the reaction I having wasn't nice feeling crappy tonight!
Is any one else on herceptin ?

Re: starting chemo in July

Oh you poor thing fancy it growing back and then loosing it again. At least you can still laugh about it ,it does help. I would love to dye mine but its nowhere near long enough yet .perhaps when its long enough the 6 months after chemo will be up and i can dye it.I was going to go really wacky but not sure now lol xx

Re: starting chemo in July

My hair started coming back at the beginning of December, I had about 1cm.

Then my chemo changed back to FEC for Dec 21st session, so I've lost it all again. So careless.

It was quite a light grey in colour bbc (before Breast Cancer). The bits that came back in dec were very white.

I've been planning forward and trying to decide a colour for after treatment is ALL finished.

Think I'll try them all. LOL.

Re: starting chemo in July

Hi All

I have had so many friends and familly saying how well I am looking now. They all thought I looked ill last month, even tho' I was telling myself I was really quite well. Thought I'd coped OK with the chemo :0)

So I've been along to the GP and asked for a referral for the exercise programme.

Spoke to the Leisure Centre rep on Friday and have committed myself to 3 days a week, Aqua-Fit, Gentle Circuits, and Gym, and each session will only cost me £2.

Tried Zumba Gold last week and was able to keep up for the whole hour.

This year I WILL keep my New Year Resolution.

Love to All

Re: starting chemo in July

Good Luck with the return to work Sharon.

Have you had a Mx? If so watch out for the lifting as we are at risk of Lymphodema.

It's been a bit quiet on here now that everyone is getting to the end of the main course of treatment.

BUT doesn't it feel good being able to taste food again?

Love and Hugs

Hi Everyone

All a bit quiet on here at the mo so I hope you are all ok?

I wanted to share my news with you, saw the consultant today and I am in remission I just need 5 weeks of radio therapy starting in Feb and I will have kicked the little critter well and truly up the backside. I cannot describe how happy I am feeling right now.

Tamoxifen will start mid January and apart from a lot of fluid under my scar all is well whoop whoop whoop.

Thank you to everyone on this thread for the support and I will continue to be there for you too.

All the best

Re: starting chemo in July

Hi Everyone

Well today Dennis the drain is taken out whoop whoop which means I can start going outside again and be a bit more mobile. It is less than a week since I had the MX and I actually feel quite good, I have had no pain since leaving hospital so not had to take any pills.

The dressings will come off Christmas Eve and I suspect that is when it will hit me more about what has happened. At the moment I keep telling myself that they have taken the tumour away to make me better.

I hope everyone else who has had their op recently is recovering well and for those who are emabarking on Rads I hope they are going well. I will find out on 28th if they took enough margin and whether rads is the next stage or whether I move straight to Tam.

All the best

Re: starting chemo in July

Thanks Lisha,

No Rads, I started this adventure with an Mx, so only Herceptin to go and I have 16 rounds still to go.

Still feeling tired and worn out, but travelling to Livingston on Thurs to visit my daughter for Christmas.

We are being a bit adventurous as we will be staying in our motorhome outside the house. Havent been away much this year, for obvious reasons, and I cannot decide if I am coming down with a cold, or whether it is the lack of nasal hair that is making my nose leak.

Re: starting chemo in July

Well done June on your last dec even if it did give you a bit of stick.Im sure you wouldn't have expected anything else lol.Do you have radiotherapy too as well as the perception?
Anne pleased your op is over and you are home.I hope with each day things start to feel a bit better for you.Put your feet up and let everyone else run after you for a while .
I have 2 more booster rads left now so on tues thats it ,just a follow up appointment late jan and my annual mamos. Will feel a little strange I'm sure just to be left and no more treatment .Not sure what i will do with my days lol after 4 weeks at hospital every week day!!!!!
Hope everyone is still managing to do their xmas shopping and i hope everyone gets spoiled this christmas ,we all deserve it.
Good luck to all still having treatment and ops .

Re: starting chemo in July

Well last FEC didnt leave without a fight.

A week later had a reaction and high temp (39.4) when I had my line flushed so back in Stalag Durham on ABs.

Ended up loosing the Hickman, I am so careless, someone might trip over the plastic line.

Escaped last Sun, but been a bit washed out this week.

Getting ready to continue the climb up Herceptin Hill, 16 rounds to go.

Hope you are recovering from yesterday Angel.

Love and << to all

Re: starting chemo in July

Hi everyone, hope you are all ok. Sorry havent been on for a while but been having rads everyday. It was a bit tiresome at first but much better now. In and out most times in less than an hour. Have met some lovely people whilst waiting. It was their last day today though so shalk miss them being there. Only 4booster left now and then thats me done.
Squirrel you must be nearly done now. Hooray.
Anne good luck for tom hope all goes well.

Re: starting chemo in July

Hi everyone

Had the pre-op assessment yesterday, making Thursday a little more real now. There may be one draw back, last night the doctor had to call as I now have a chest infection and on antibiotics. I have been fighting it off since I finished chemo five weeks ago in one form or another and this week it has hit me full on.

Hope everyone else is feeling good, especially those who have had their op this last week. Will be thinking about my fellow op mates this week.

All the best

Anne xx

Re: starting chemo in July

Hi everyone! Sorry not posted for a while but what with daily rads,a series of men arriving to do jobs and needing cups of tea, christmas coming up rather quickly and my daughters BD, going back to work, I don't know where the time has gone!
I'll be thinking of those having ops this week, and the best of luck to you all x
Not enjoying the rads but as long as the students don't get their hands on me the better it is. My arm aches so much, speed is definately a neccessity! Think I upset them coz they were debating which CD to put on and I requested no Michael Bouble as I have had him crooning at me the last few times! Apologies to Bouble fans out there ! Tamoxifen going down OK Queenie. Hot flushes though ! I have abandoned the bed socks much to OH relief!! Even kept warm during an arctic hockey game at my daughters school although the wig threatened to leave my head at one point. Can you imagine the horror of seeing a wig tearing up a hockey pitch like some kind of wild animal ? That was nearly me folks but will power and a quick reflex action saved the day !! Great meeting up with Lisha last week ! ( although she has considerably more hair than me .....) !!

Re: starting chemo in July

Thank you June. I am disappointed that I am still feeling ropey nearly five weeks after the last TAX. Feeling very tired, achy in my limbs and fingers /nails are sore. This didn't come on until later as I haven't suffered with this throughout the chemo. I felt better during the chemo when the first side effects of the first week had worn off. I know this is probably normal but my expectation was high for feeling 'normal' which is probably why I am on a bit of a downer now. My hair (but not as I know it) is growing back at least.

Good luck to all others having the op!

Re: starting chemo in July

Hi all just a quick note to say good luck to anne and BBB. I will keep popping in to see how you are doing. Pleased that both your ops are done with before christmas. No excuse for you you both not to be pampered and waited on and let others do their bit for christmas.
Im doing rads at the mo. Arm seems to be holding up better now, still hurts by the time im done but managing it so thats all that matters. Still long hold ups but im hoping it will get better. Think the tiring part isnt the rads but the wait for ur appointment. The machines were getting upgraded last week so if didnt help then one broke down.
Hows everyone doing with organising christmas while having treatment. I went to a really big christmas craft fayre this weekend and went down on a tractor to feed the reindeer with my nieces. It really liftex my mood it was a brilliant day. We even went to see father christmas and had fake snow. Has anyone else managed anything really nice like that? I do believe a few people on here will have had real snow. I hope it doesnt get bad enough to make things awkward for you.
Anyway ive gone on for long enough so just to wish everyone a se free week if still on treatment. Take care all love Sharon xx

Re: starting chemo in July

Hello everyone!

I am sorry but I feel like I deserted you all a couple of months ago when I started posting on the August thread. I did this because they seemed to be at the same stage that I was with Chemo as I was on a 4xEC 4xTAX regime. I had my last chemo a week ago and have just received my pre-op date for my December MX.

Hope to catch up with all of you over the next couple of days.

3rd Zap today and easier than zap one but am still at the end of my tether by the time they come back in the room. They are hoping to find a way of supporting my elbow a bit more tomorrow. Think my face on their cctv must have said it all. Think i would prefer a Bush Tucker Trial....as long as it wasn't spiders....or eating dangly bits! Looking forward to meeting up with Lisha to compare notes! Good luck to all this week and hope everyones's hair/hats stayed on with the wind yesterday! x
