the variations in treatment query

I had radical mx following dx of grade 2, quick growing cells, but have not needed any rads, chemo or hormone pills. Never thought to ask why, but now i am thinking…
does anyone know why following mx for dcis some of us need rads, or chemo or the pills? Is the type of cells, their chemical makeup?

Hi Helenbythesea, I understand that radiotherapy is not usually required if you’ve had a mx for DCIS/LCIS and is often not required if you’ve had an mx for invasive breast cancer, if you have a WLE (lumpectomy) then radio is usually offered. Also chemo would not be given for DCIS/LCIS as these are not invasive, hormone therapy would depend on whether your DCIS was hormone receptive and if so how strongly, if you were only weakly Oestogen positive there would not be much benefit in taking it. Take care CC x

Thanks, isn’t it weird what catches your imagination and niggles away…
