Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Thankyou-You are right, you have to be positive even though it is hard sometimes.I have had my first lot of Chemo and it went well and I haven't had many side effects yet-a bit of nausea and tired and headachey but I have taken all my meds and drunken lots of water and been eating ginger biscuits-which really help.I have Been keeping my face and body moisturised and have tried to start using cosmetics and toilet that are paraben free, just because I think they are a healthier option.By the way,Aldi do a lot of cosmetics and toiletries that are paraben free, which I was surprised at and you dont have to spend a fortune! Been out for a walk today for about an hour in the sunshine.Am just trying to stay positive and do everything I can to help myself.Being positive is so impossible and there are so many success stories that it shows you that it can be done! Thankyou to all of you for keeping me sane-this forum has helped me so much xxx
Love to all of you-we are not alone xxx

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Exactly Lizzie! welcome to the forum & good to hear you sound so positive. It sounds like you have an early diagnosis, so outcomes are excellent.
Loads of us here who've been through what you have & are now back to life as normal.
Do look at the 'newly diagnosed' & 'going through treatment' boards where there are others at the stage you're at & come & chat whenever you need to.

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

hi Sib,
It's the waiting for results that is the most difficult stage in going through this, as we cant get our head around it properly until we know what we're dealing with & what's going to be done about it. Once this is resolved, it does get better.
You're absolutely right not to google symptoms as it really does not help at this stage & is only unnecessarily scary.
If you need info, then use reputable sites like this one & Macmillan.
If you do get a diagnosis, then there's loads of support from all of us here who are at your stage or have been through it.

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi, my story is very similar to yours, was told by consultant that he suspectsaid my lump is a Cancer, I had biopsysame including lymph as something should on scan which consultant couldn't feel had liver scan got bone scan tomorrow and results on Thursday 22nd. My husband is working 400 miles away and can't be with me (if he doesn't work he doesn't get paid) I am going to work too today, again financial issues are a huge worry if the worst happens and I need alot of treatment. Sometimes I think I'm felling ok so it can't be bad but other times especially like now early in the morning when I can sleep I'm planning my funeral. I'm still needed my boys and my dad has a medical. Condition so many reasons I can't be ill or worse! Trying not to Google as I now have self diagnosed inflammatory breast cancer (due to the fact my breast Is painful and shape changed) which is difficult to treat and reoccurring.
Hope things work out for you but I do know how your feeling ( an emotional rollercoaster). Sending a big hug xx

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Sue and Bolly, your feelings are quite natural as it is such a shock. No one wants BC, but as you have probably been told, if you have to have cancer, then this is the one to have! Yes, really! Treatment is tailored to you, and success rates are excellent. Some tests are easier than others . Chemo is doable, I would say, and I'm 70. At least it is so far. I'm half way through now. I decided to treat it like a military campaign. 💣 Blow the blighter to smithereens. I came on here, like you, and got good tips. I allowed myself emotions - I deserve them. I sorted out a little journal for questions for my medics, and to vent as well as record my journey. Got the healthier nutrition going. I'm oestrogen positive, so exchanged foodstuffs so as not to feed 'it'. Upped exercise ready for the battle, and invested in free from stuff. No more parabans - not good for us BC girlies ! Once you have your pathology results back, there will be a pathway offered and you will be off and heading to that finishing line. Much much better than the uncertainty you now have. Do stay occupied. Give yourself treats that allow you to forget about it for a while. Coffe with friends, a nice walk perhaps? Let us know how you get on. Good luck. 🍀

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Keep your chin up.I don't know how I am still going.I have been crying one minute and climbing the walls the next. This site has been fabulous and really helps with the stress. You imagine all sorts in your head.Take it as it comes and don't google anything! I quickly learned not to google-you end up with everything if you listen to google.Read/watch Tv/have a drink do whatever you need to do to get through it.Kalms are really good as well.Good luck with everything and try to think positive and that something will get done-That's what I have been telling myself,
All the best and chin up! The help on here is brilliant xxx

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

I am so glad I found this thread had a biopsy on Sunday and right now my boob is black I get results on 21st and though I am optimistic I am also under no illusions as 2 seperate consultants said it was a very suspect lump but my lymph nodes are okay. One of the consultants said he could not confirm bc without the results but I needed to understand what they were telling me so I can only conclude that bc will be the result. I too keep crying and although my husband knows I am waiting until after 21st to tell my children and parents x thank you to you all for sharing as the waiting is the worst thing imaginable right now

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

I am waiting for results of Biopsies and have scan appointments tomorrow and had a similar experience with my GP to the one you have described.I have been quite positive today but yesterday was climbing the walls.I keep thinking i have had cancer for years and not known about it and imagining the worse.I hope it works out for the best-but remember that at least something is being done.Keep your chin up and take it as it comes-it really does drive you demented.Thankyou to all the lovely people on this forum-I cannot tell you what a big help it is to be able to chat to people on here and feel like there is hope and you are not alone.I would have gone mad by now if It wasn't for this! X

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Thanks for your replies it really helps not to feel so completely on my own, hoping that after tomorrow when i have a better idea of what's happening i might be able to at least get a decent nights sleep!

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi Nic, sending a hug to let you know you are not alone. They are pretty good at diagnosing C from the ultra sound, but until the biopsy results are in there is always a little hope, isn't there? Anyway, one step at a time. If it is a nasty old C then, great, you've caught it. If it's not , then , yay it's all ok. We'll be rooting for you. X

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi nic819,

I'm sorry you're struggling. So many of us are as well.... if that's any consolation? You are not alone. I have been pretty good up until today. I'm awaiting results from my biopsy. Maybe these are stages we need to go through. As much as I would prefer for all of us to just not even have to deal with this, I just want you to know that this emotional roller coaster is among many right now. I just want you to know that we are here for support. xxoo

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi

New here had biopsy on breast lump behind nipple las Tuesday was told it was likely to be some kind of cancer, appointment tomorrow afternoon for results and treatment plan. Absolutely terrified, had seen changes to nipple in 2014 and have seen 2 different GPs since who both told me it was nothing sinister, thinking it must have been there for years and worrying about how far it's spread. I've managed to stay pretty calm up until now but really struggling tonight.

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi Nicky

Just thought i would let you know my results.

I Have BC in both breasts, one is stage 1 and the other stage 2, I am having a mastectomy on my right one where i had the lesions and lump removal on my left. it sounds strange but i feel fine about it all, I think in my head i thought it was going to be the worse case senario, thinking it had spread through out my body all sorts of things your mind works overtime on while waiting for results. So the fact that it can be dealt with, I know thats not going to be pleasant or pain free and they are hoping i might not need to have chemo so to me it  is all positive, hopefully 6 month to a year from now things will get back to normalish. The fight is on and I will beat this 🙂

I do hope you get your results soon and wish you good luck with yours xx

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Oh Den, I am just realising how awful all the waiting is for you. Let me know how you get on? I went for recall today 14th May after routine mammogram and ultrasound picked up 3 lumps. Got to go back for biopsies because the nurse was not sure to proceed as I am on anticoagulants, Not sure when. I`ve come back to work to try and bury all thoughts, the wait is agony. Keep wondering things like `who will look after my dog?` as I`m on my own. At least my employers will benefit. Anyway, thanks to all who have posted it has been a source of - not comfort exactly but just better to know I`m not completely alone with this.

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi

I have had a very simular experience, I went on friday 12th for my breast clininc appointment, and when i was being given the ultrasound and had biopsies done on both breasts as i have a 2.5cm lump in my left breast and 4 lesions in my right , i asked if they thought it was BC she said she couldn't confirm until biopsie results but it looked very suspicious, when i went into see the consultant he said the same but it will be surgery regardless of outcome and he offered me a BC Nurse my results will be back by tuesday and he said they would have a panel meeting and call me back wed / thurs to give me the results and treatment plan. To be honest i just want to get on with it all, i think mine will be BC. Good luck with your results xxx

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi I'm new on here ...I went for a mamosram 2 weeks ago and was called back a week later they gave me an ultra scan and then a core biopsy...on Wednesday they gave me my results they said I have a papilloma with suspected DCIS I have to see a consultant this Thursday to find out what they are going to do ..I was told it would either be an operation or a breast incision..the worse part about this is the waiting I just want it over with ..

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi SRM girl

I have annual Europe only insurance with Insureandgo so when I was diagnosed last November I rang them to tell them, as I had two holidays already booked for this May and June and it added about £50 to the premium for the rest of this year so I'm covered for the two already booked holidays. But before the policy needs renewing this July I will do some research to see if other companies can offer a cheaper premium. So hoping answers to your query will help me too. x

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi All,

I have been told it's BC 😔 Being positive about my planned care.

Has anyone got insurance following treatment for holiday ? Who did you use ?

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hope you begin to get some answers at your appointment tomorrow SRM.  I can imagine that this wait has been excrutiating for you.  It sounds as if they have prepared you for the possibility for bad news, although this cannot be easy to comprehend until you know that it is a fact.

We will be thinking of you tomorrow, and if the news is not so good, you will at least be one step ahead of where you were while waiting.  It will be a positive step forward, and a plan will be in motion. There is a wealth of information and support here for you.

Be kind to yourself tonight x

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Alison, how are you doing?  Have they moved things on along for you yet in terms of treatment plans and a date for surgery?  Have been thinking of you x

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

This was my experience too. The consultant radiologist used the same words....BC was confirmed on biopsy results. Sending positive thoughts x

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi all,

feeling really nervous !

I went to my local breast clinic last week on the 27/2/2017 . I found a lump in my left breast and was referred

very quickly by my GP.

I saw the consultant first who examined me and then sent me for mammogram and then in to have ultrasound scan.

Mammogram didn't show much ! Went into scan and within seconds of the nurse starting to scan me the door opened and a consultant radiologist came in and introduced himself , he took over the scan and said he was concerned and could he do some biopsies. He took one under arm and three from the lump .

He said it looked suspicious ! On leaving the room I went into another room as was seen by the breast consultant and his nurse. He again said the lump looked suspicious and that I would be seen with the results the next week. He left me with his nurse and she said I was being very brave and that the "news" had probably not sunk in ??? She then told me The name of my specialist breast nurse who I will be under and that the team will meet to discuss my case and course of action !  I am there tomorrow the 7/2/2017 ..........

what does all this mean ? Are they preparing me for the worst news ?

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

I had a similar experience last week. Told that

at my age an inverted nipple is usually cancer and 3biopsies were taken

I am back this afternoon wanting to know. Was told I need aMRI to complete diagnosis as nothing shows on a mammogram only on scan.Hope to hear more about that as swelling is nearly gone.

I suppose we all want instant action but patience is tiring.

Good Luck

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Maureen
I went last week to have cyst drained....ultrasound showed different lump and I was told pretty sure was nor good.....I go back Thursday for results.....I am not coping at all......he said prepare for worst....this week is just awful....I've come to work and cried in loos twice already.....I guess they will test lymph nodes next? I had 3 biopsies last week....is it more painful??thinking of you and all the ladies..xx

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

hi PP,
Sorry to hear you are going through this, but I wholly endorse what Jobey says.
It could be that the Dr was reacting to you not having biopsy initially, but it came over rather more brusquely than intended, but its not your fault. Communication skills can vary somewhat with professionals.
Very best wishes for Thursday & do let us know how you get on if you want to.
ann x

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi PP,

How awful that you have been made to feel like this, you did exactly what you should have back in 2014 and trusted the doctors to check you out, I would have walked away quite happy and not given it a second thought too after a clear Mammogram so please don't beat yourself up about it. It may well have been benign back then and not cancerous all long but you can't go back so try and keep focused on what is happening right now, many breast cancers once detected have been there for a few years. Once you have a definite diagnosis and a treatment plan you will start to feel much better, I know it feels unlikely right now but you will come to terms with it  Xx Jo

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

I went to the Dr's in 2014 with a breast lump who referred me for a mammogram.  After the mammogram I was sent a letter saying I was cancer free and that I should have another mammogram in three years but keep an eye on my breasts. ( I think the letter is standard)

I noticed this year that the lump was tender and getting bigger plus change in the skin of that breast. The Dr referred me to the newly opened breast centre in Bristol.

I was told it was cancer and given a mammogram, ultra sound and a core biopsy.

I also explained the lump had been there for at least three years and was told I should have had a biopsy in 2014.  I was made to feel it was my fault that that hadn't happened. I was questioned in a way that made me feel I couldn't have gotten that letter.  It's horrible being told you have breast cancer but even worse to know the cancer should have been detected years ago. I have the paperwork from 2014 to show myself I am not an idiot but just presumed that the mammogram showed the Dr's my lump was not cancer.

I have my results this Thursday and because of the delay in the correct diagnosis am so scared and keep crying. Which helps no one.

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

I have the utmost sympathy with all you ladies in this position . I was devastated to be told the lump looked cancerous, and was it alright to take biopsies - which certainly are not the nicest thing.

i live in Newcastle and my GP was great, so can't complain. No messing with her getting me an appointment. She did it in front of me online. I am waiting for results, and have been encouraged to keep to holiday plans - so it's either been caught early, or.........

The waiting is the absolute pits, and I am just filling every minute of every day. Exercise seems to be the best medicine to combat those sleepless nights, and even then that doesn't always work. I have gone the herbal route for help sleeping, and on those occasions I can't sleep these seem to have helped. Or maybe it's psychological? The help line here is also a godsend , at any hour.

Having been told BC is very treatable  by 'my' nurse- yes, I was allocated a named nurse - I am clinging to that. DO NOT Google , but stick with this site. Thank you to all who have helped me- it's a month since I found the lump. Meeting with the Consultant on March 6. X

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

mini mad

Hi I have just seen your post.  Welcome to this forum, although it is not a place any of us would want to be, there are lots of lovely ladies on here who will be able to support you through this time. We laugh, cry, rant rave on here and it is a safe place for you to feel comfortable to express your fears and thoughts.

The waiting for results is the worst time and it does seem to drag, boy do we all know that one.  One thing to remember is that not all lumps are cancerous, there are a lot of benign breast conditions that breast clinics deal with as well.

Let us know how you get on, we are all here to support you so come on here whenever you need to and we will get you through.  Try of you can to do something nice over the weekend to take your mind off Tuesday

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Doctor said they were non-cancerous which is good, but said that rather than continuing with 6 monthly ultrasounds they are going to start 3 monthly ultrasounds.

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi there,
I have not had that comment, but would recommend you see your GP or ask to see another within yiour team of specialists. It may be inconclusive and norhing to worry sbout, as could be indicated by the time to your appt but this does not stop you having weeks of worry. Good luck x

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

I had a fine needle and core biopsy (had 6 monthly ultrasound monitoring a 5cm mass, which showed change on last ultrasound).  Waited just over a week and called doctors office for results.  My doctor was away so they they asked another doctor to read notes and secretary gave me results on phone.

Basically said result was non-specific cells and tissues, and to make an appointment to discuss further with the doctor (she is away and my appointment is 11th August!!).

Still nervous, as I have no idea what "non-specific cells and tissues" means - has anyone else had this diagnosis??

Thanks

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hello I have just been reading these posts as I had a biopsy yesterday. I am just wondering how you got on Scarlett67 I appreciate this post is from 2013 and you may no longer want it access this site

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi Sam - i did not take anyone with me either - what a shock though - like you say - you watch their faces and you know somethings not right. I have to wait until Friday 28th June for results of biopsy. I think what concerns me most is that they took biopsy of my lymph nodes under my arm - the first thing I thought, and have been dwelling on since, is that it has spread. I have been googling away at other reasons why lymph nodes would be swollen - and not making myself feel any better. My holiday - it's a big family holiday thats been in the planning for ages, everyone (son, brothers, nephews etc) all excited. I feel as though I am going to spoil things for them. I just want Friday to come and any surgery to be done in time for me to go. Stupid I know! I think it will be bad news on Friday - but how bad!

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi Scarlett/kimy,
I wa sthe same as you- stunned to be given an instant diagnosis. My OH had actually offered to go with me on the day and I said don't be silly even if I have a biopsy they won't have the results for a week. I knew the minute the nurse asked if I had anyone with me that it was bad news. Like you I also had holidays booked and when I went back for results of an MRI scan all I wanted to know is if I could go on them. As it is I can't have my first one as i need another op but am hoping to get the sceond one as it's my friends wedding in Portugal. Fingers, toes and bra crossed for that. Good luck and remember we are all here to support each other on this rollercoaster of a ride!!

Sam x

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi weepixie.. Thanks for your reply. I hope you are coping well. It must have been a shock. not sure how i would take news like that. Everyone one this site is so supportive I wonder where you all get the strength. Hope things go well. I have scared myself silly looking online about this and that...as mentioned above..i must stop!

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi Dyane, you must have been pulling you hair out with regards to your GP. my GP too, didn't really want to refer me to breast clinic. I just sat in front of her until she changed her mind. Mind you she did say to me that, even being referred I may still not get apt. As she put down I had lumpy breast tissue and it would be up to clinic. I am glad now though I insisted as I was right after all. I did write email to welsh assembly because of the referral times and the answer I got was that they try to start treatment (in Wales) 62 days after referral. By time I go Friday for results of biopsy it will be 58 days!!!!

The waiting is awful. . Glad to hear your chest is fine and no spread to lymph nodes.

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

My heart goes out to you the waiting is the worst. Your experience sounds very similar to mine. I had a long wait for a breast clinic appointment when I was referred. After mamogram and ultrsound done at that first appointment the consultant was able to tell me he was fairly certain it was cancer. The biopsies confirmed this a week later. What nobody saw coming was the secondary diagnosis which was only confirmed by scans which showed mets in liver and bones. I had no symptoms at all from the mets so I really don't think you can tell anything about spread until all the tests are done. Your mind will continute to work overtime and every little lump or bump will be a new worry, that is just human nature. I'm sure you will feel better once you have more answers and have a treatment plan in place if that's what is needed. I will be thinking about you on Tuesday. Do take someone with you as it is impossible to take everything in when you are so wound up.

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Kimy after 8 weeks of waiting I contacted my GP to see if she could push me up the list. She said that that was the waiting list and I would just have to wait my turn, and if I had a problem speak to my MP - honestly. Who would believe it!! Needless to say I will never see her again, nor will any of my family.

My lump was very prominent on my chest wall, you could see it if I stood in front of you with my bra still on. I also had a lot of chest problems at the same time as I was waiting to get seen, so was certain it had spread to my chest but after diagnosis I had a chest x-ray which was clear ... and strangely my chest problems went away. You will find that your mind is playing tricks on you because you are so worried (understandably so). Also once you get seen at your clinic IF, and I mean IF, you need treatment you will find that it all happens very quickly. Since diagnosis I have had a great service, shame my GP wasn't as interested.

BTW despite waiting so long to get seen and being diagnosed with a grade 3 tumour, it hadn't spread to my lymph nodes. I was very, very lucky.

I hope things go well for you, keep me posted xx

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Hi - just to confuse everyone - I tried to register using my phone and used the username KIMY - only I thought it did not work so went to my PC and registered again as scarlet67 - so the reply above from KIMY is actually from me - SCARLET67 - my apologies for confusing anyone.
Again many thanks for everyones support. I will post back when I have my results on Friday - it seems like ages away though. I work at a computer all day and the temptation to google all sorts is just there at my fingers.
Thanks for your advice Emma on bruising - my boob coped quite well with biopsy though - but my underarm - oh so sore and swollen but I will try what you said - and Lols - I will probably try a little wine too!

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Kimy I know it's hard but try and keep calm! It's so natural to worry and believe me you are not the first and won't be the last woman on here, to think there's a spread. After you go back for your results you will probably have to have further scans and tests to determine a treatment plan for you. Take each day as it comes because you have to learn to be very patient. Something I definitely wasn't before this journey! Sometimes its not known until after an op what further treatment you'll need so don't cancel that holiday just yet. Keep busy, go to work, look after the kids, whatever is your normal routine and DON'T GOOGLE!!
You can take ibrupfen to help the bruising and discomfort in your boob and be gentle on yourself xxx

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Many thanks for everyones replies. I can't believe you waited 13 weeks Dyane. I thought 7 was bad enough. When I went to doctors surgery I was told that it wasn't a lump at all just "lumpy" breast tissue. So my referral was not urgent. I had quite the shock at breast clinic. The lump was felt straight away. i was shaking when they wanted biopsy of lump but even more so when they wanted biopsy of underarm. Would there be any other reason lymph nodes would show up on ultrasound or is it a given certainty that BC has spread to them if they do show up. I asked doctor what she thought and she held my hand and said "you have an area of great concern" then went on about treatment plans. i was in a state of shock and said "but i have a holiday booked at end of august" . To which she said many people take a break through treatment. at that point my heart sank and i thought to myself Christ i have BC then. Is she right that people take a break throu treatment or would i be putting my health at risk. Needless to say my legs could hardly carry me from the clinic. . Since then - yes unfortunately I have been googling. I have convinced myself it has spread to my liver and bones as I have burning sensation under right breast on My ribs and aching shins and hip bone. What can I expect from next apt. will they be able to tell extent of BC. I sometimes think well I definately have BC then and then sometimes I think oh well you never know they could be wrong. . I am driving myself nuts. Since biopsy my underarm has swollen too..is that normal. Also the lump that I poked about with 50 times a day for 7 weeks feels quite different now? sorry for the long post any advice is greatly appreciated

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

I had to wait 13 weeks to get seen at hospital & that was a cancellation not even my own 'urgent' appointment. I went alone and before the radiologist took the biopsy, she advised me to phone someone to come up ... so I knew before I got the pathology results.

I had a lot of problems with my chest, so having waited soooo long to get to hospital, I was convinced it had spread, however my chest X-ray was clear.

All the best, I hope you get good news.

Dyane

Re: told i have breast cancer before biopsy results

I know and have been told by others that sometimes its better to think the worse so you wont be as shocked when you get bad news. However, sometimes it isnt bad news. I had breast cancer diagnosed in my left breast last year and following an MRI (due to having Lobular) I was told that I had three suspicious areas in the right breast. I had a further diagnostic mammogram, an ultrasound, which had the consultant telling me that the areas looked very suspicious which meant taking the decision to do core biopsy on all three.
I had to wait 2 weeks to find out the results and as they gave me a CT scan during the waiting period I had convinced myself that I had cancer in both breasts. I was gobsmacked when the consultant told me that I didnt and that all three areas were benign.

So there is always hope so try and put things to the back of your mind (I know its hard) and go out and enjoy yourself until D-Day. xxxx
