Re: waiting!!

thanx hymil for the advice, New year new me no more pussyfooting around time to take action and go back to my gp and make her listen! Thanx for the positivity, it really helped xx

Re: waiting!!

Thank you for your support barb, i saw the bcn and although she says it doesn't look really suspicious she wants me to attend the one-stop clinic and have an ultrasound scan which she has managed to book for Thursday. So a little bit longer to wait, but at least they are moving me through quite quickly. I feel better now i have seen her - and I know i did the right thing in plucking up the courage to do something about it - even though i hate the thought of going on Thursday.

Re: waiting!!

hello ladies - this is my first post, although i have had breast cancer twice (once in 2004 and a local recurrence in 2008) I have now found what might be a lump in my remaining breast. My first reaction was "oh no please this can't be happening again", and I wanted to just forget about it. However, I have now phoned my bcn and she has phoned me back almost immediately and will see me this morning at the local hospital. I am still terrified, but am really glad I called her. I have been through the waiting part so often, it is without doubt horrible and you can't think about anything else. I don't know what she will say this morning, and i am still so afraid, but at least i will see someone who can then get me an appointment with the consultant if necessary.

Re: waiting!!

MissTwinks that sounds so painful, you must have a high tolerance I would be worried and scared too. It's the hospital's job to deal with it, whatever impression they gave last time, and to be fair if they haven't seen you for three months then they don't know the situation has changed - the bleeding is a new symtpom that should be investigated. Maybe there's a different consultant you could see? At least tell your GP how worried you are, because the breast clinic is also there to tell people good news when they haven't got cancer, and to get on with starting treatment for other nasty conditions. Wouldn't you like some good news?

Re: waiting!!

Hi Kelcat
It is quite common to have "lumpy" breasts at certain times in your menstrual cycle and so your GP is reacting in a reasonable way. I have big boobs and they were usually lumpy and enlarged for about a week before my period started.

Make an appointment to see her just after your period has finished when your breasts are easier to examine. But, if you are still unhappy after that then ask to be referred.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Re: waiting!!

Hi Kelcat.

I know at 22 it isn't easy to be assertive and go into the GP demanding this and that, but......get an appointment ASAP and insist on being referred to the breast clinic. Sod having to wait for a period, tell them you want a referral and dont leave the surgery without them agreeing to it.

Look them straight in the eye and demand one! If they get funny ask them if they can 100% guarantee it isn't cancerous? If they say no, ask them if they would be prepared to 'wait and see'.

If you have a parent or friend you could take to give you a bit of courage you might find it easier.

Don't leave it, get it sorted this week! Let us know how you get on.

Re: waiting!!

hi, i can understand just how u feel, i have been having problems with my breast now for over 6 months and feel scared and very worried. It started when i noticed a dark green discharge from my left nipple, i went to my gp and he sent me to the breast clinic at my local hospital. Anyway they did an ultra sound scan which didnt show anything so i was told to go back in 3 months. I did and the same again, but the consultant said that there may be a blockage in the ducts and that if i wanted to they could remove it but they wouldnt advise it. I was left completely confused!! Now for the past 3 weeks i have been getting a constant ache/pain from under my arm to my breast, and not only is it still leaking green stuff but it now bleeds if squeezed (which i dont do!!) i really dont know where to go as i feel that the hospital dnt want to know and i just wondered if anyone could help or give me any advice xx

Re: waiting!!

Hi Kelcat,

Lots of women find themselves with breast problems and It was really good that you went to the doctor..If you are still worried and your problem persists then go back to her. She should refer you to a breast clinic where they'll be able to have a proper look at it. Looking on the internet can scare a lot of people and to be honest I wouldn't go looking anymore if I were you. What's the point of worrying about things you probably haven't got. Getting things checked out is the most important thing, this I'm sure will put your mind at rest..Keep us posted and let us know how you get on.
