when do you get hot flushes from Tamoxifen

Hi Sonia. I've been taking it for 22 days and nothing's happened yet. I'm grateful to be honest. I agree with Helena, we're all completely different and the drug will have a different effect on us. I also think the brand you get given has an impact. I'm on TEVA and anecdotally it appears to be one of the less side effects inducing brands.

ive been taking tamoxifen for 3 months now. I've only had one proper day time flush which conveniently came in the middle of an important meeting!! Sadly I have found that a glasso F wine will make me feel really hot but it doesn't turn in to a full on flush. 

What I have found since taking the pills is that I don't seem to get cold any more. I'm always feeling nice and warm which is great at this time of year but may be troublesome in the summer. Its not an uncomfortable warm, I just don't feel the cold!! In bed sometimes I can get really hot and end up kicking the duvet off for a while. I've bought my long suffering hubby a onsie to keep himself warm this winter as I m forever turning the heating off lols

all in all, I've been happy in the main taking tamoxifen and if it continues in this way, I'll cope just fine.

Hi Ann, thanks for your response. Can i ask how long you have been taking Tamoxifen? Don't particularly want major hot flushes or any other side effect to be honest but was expecting some kind of side effect. Years ago I had fibroids removed & was given zolidex prior to the op, had the most dreadful hot flushes so was expecting something similar! S xx

hi Sonia,
Like you, I've not had problems with tamox, I do get occasional hot flushes, but not in a troublesome way. I've also noticed that I dont get breast tenderness any more, so hopefully, that's the tamox working!
Anyway, I'm not going to worry too much about not having more side effects - lol, & will continue 'taking the tablets!'

Thank you Ladybowler. I read a medical article which suggested that if you don't get hot flushes from Tamoxifen then your risk of recurrence was higher (21% compared to 14% for those who experienced hot flushes). I am aware (as with any drug) that you will not necessarily experience all of the side effects stated but was specifically interested in the hot flushes. S x

Everyone is different I would imagine that some people do not have any side effects at all and others get the whole kit and kabudal, perhaps with some people it can take longer than others for the side effects to manifest if they are going to. 

They tell you what the potential side effects are but they can not say if you are going to get all or any of them.

Hi, I have been taking Tamoxifen for 24 days now & just wondered how long it takes before you start having hot flushes? I know not everyone gets them but I have also read that it is a good sign if you do as it means the drug is working. I don't seem to have had any side effects to date so would be interested to hear other peoples experiences. Thank you. Sonia
