Re: young women had expanders fitted in both boobs- what to expect next???please help!!

Hi Caroline,

Im gald your looking into the screening as im sure your genetisist would have told you with the brca2 gene there is an increased risk of ovarian cancer and with you been so young, so screening would proberbly be a better option for you but im sure they will tell you all your options when you ask them. Let me know how you get on.

goood luck

Hi Leslie

The expanders i had in had to get taken out, some expanders can stay in. Was at the hosp last week hopefully getting the tattoing done in 3 months once my scars from where i got my nipples done calms down. Not been offered screening for ovarian cancer but think i will look into it.

Hi Caroline and all,

I was just wondering did they offer to swap your expanders for implants or did you have to ask for it? Ive just finished being filled ive got to go back in 3 months to have my ports removed. Im also having nipple tattoing would love to hear how you get on. Also have they offered you screening for ovarian cancer with you being so young.

Hi i am 26 and have the BRCA2 gene I had bilateral masectomy and recon in feb 08 and had expanders fitted also. I got the expanders changed in July for implants, and i have had my nipples done in nov 08 now i am just waiting on getting the tattooing done. If anyone wants to ask anything I will be happy to share my experiences.

Hi lisa,
hope your ok. Wow did it not feel really tight having them filled all in one go? What size did you used to be if you dont mind me asking. I used to be a B cup but went to a c cup they took my muscle from my back on my right boob cos id had radio before this op. I found them a bit uncomfotable a first but there ok now my doc puts 50mls in at a time although last week she put 100mls in left and 50mls in right should be finished soon. There's no history of ovarian cancer in my family either its more of a preventative measure and i didnt want anymore children so was a better option for me. Im taking tamoxifen for next 5 years even after op cos apparently you still produce estrogen after hystrectomy and menaporse is your cancer estrogen based?

hi misha
hope you are keepin well- ive had the expanders in sinces november and havent had any problems wit them- when will you be havin the new one put in? ther thinking of doing mine in april! not looking forward to it are u?

hi leslee
hope you are ok? how are u finding them been pumped up? every 2 weeks! thats seems a lot i had the maximum dosage i could on the first time i went and i didnt feel a thing! do u find them uncomfortable? im going to speak 2 the hospital about a prevention from ovarian cancer but they ae not so concerent a the moment as me b ing so younge- everyone that has had BRCA2 in my family hasnt actually develpoed ovarian cancer but all had hysteretomy in ther 30's as prevention so im hopin ive got a bit of time yet. ive found it quite a lot about having the reconstruction so young and feel i would rather get the first part over and done with before starting on this. keep in touch

Re: young women had expanders fitted in both boobs- what to expect next???please help!!

hi lisacs

im 33 and had bilateral masectomy and recon in dec 08 i have also had expanders fitted. I also have brca2 gene i have been told by my surgeon that my implants will last 10 - 15 years before i have to have them changed, i am still going back every 2 weeks to have them filled. I go in hospital in feb 09 for hysrectomy as a preventative because of the brca2 gene just wondered if the doctors have discussed this option for you. This is the first time ive been on this site so please bear with me any info on brca2 would be great

good luck love leslee xx

Re: young women had expanders fitted in both boobs- what to expect next???please help!!

Hi lisacs,

I'm 44 and had expanders fitted in both sides as immediate recon last May. I have 6 month follow up next week hopefully to talk about the next operation which for me I think will be to have permanent implants - is that what you are planning?

I've found the expanders pretty uncomfortable over the last 6 months and one side has deflated a bit - I'm really hoping for a better long term result !!

When did you have your surgery? I know there has to be time to let things settle between ops but it's seems a long wait.

Any local support groups in your area?

Best wishes
Misha
