Hi Artura
Thank you for your post.
Many people ask whether there’s anything they can do to get in the best shape for surgery. A balanced and healthy diet along with regular physical exercise is important for everyone, but when you’re due to start treatment for breast cancer it’s not uncommon to wonder whether there’s anything else you should do.
There is no specific food type or exercise you should be doing ahead of your mastectomy and reconstruction. However, you might find our information on diet during breast cancer treatment and exercise during and after treatment useful.
At Breast Cancer Now, we have a range of support services which you may find helpful.
Do call our Helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks. The number is 0808 800 6000, (Relay UK -prefix 18001).
If you would like a nurse to call you do complete this form. Ticking the box agreeing to a call back.
Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday. Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.
Best wishes

Hi,
I've got a couple of weeks left before my right mastectomy/DIEP flap (and left reduction) for DCIS. I've been trying to go for a run every other day for the last month or so, but can you give any tips about how to get in the best shape for surgery? Do tummy exercises/sit ups help? Anything to include in my diet?
Thanks xx
