Infected SNB Scar

Re: Infected SNB Scar

Hi Rumred

Thank you for posting.

It sounds like you are having a difficult time at the moment.

After surgery there are a number of things to look out for including infection and swelling. It’s good to hear you have seen your team and that they have prescribed antibiotics to treat the infection. It may take a few days of antibiotics before you notice that the infection is improving.  Hopefully the swelling will settle down over time and the infection will clear, but it’s important to go back to your team if the swelling and pain are getting worse.

The pain is usually caused by bruising, stretching or damage to nerves during surgery or when scar tissue forms. An infection following surgery will add to the pain.  It’s not clear if you are having any pain medication. Regularly taking simple pain relief, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen may help. If it doesn’t, you may wish to speak with your treatment team, local pharmacist, or GP for advice on suitable pain relief.

Infected SNB Scar

I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on 17th December and seemed to be healing well. A week ago I noticed a lump under the SNB scar and it's worsened to the point of great pain and getting much larger. Saw a doctor at the breast Cancer place yesterday and he gave me a course of antibiotics.

It's had me up in the night again with pain and I'm worried about it. It looks awful. I'm having blood tests later so will get nurse to have a look.

Any advice or similar experiences?
