Swimming after nipple reconstruction

Re: Swimming after nipple reconstruction

Hi Jenny59

Thanks for posting.

It’s important to allow time for healing following your nipple reconstruction before you go swimming. The time of this will vary for each person. A wound infection can happen any time after surgery until the wound is completely healed. Usually it takes about two to three weeks for the skin to heal. You may want to talk with your breast care nurse.

Applying a waterproof dressing for swimming can be difficult as it’s likely to leak. A waterproof dressing can sometimes be used for showering to keep the wound dry.

Do call our free, confidential Helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The number is 0808 800 6000.

Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday. Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.

Best wishes
