Re: Swimming after radiotherapy

Hi Carolan

Thanks for your post.

Many people want to return to physical activity after treatment but it’s always a good idea to check when is best to do this.

As radiotherapy can cause side effects such as skin reactions, it’s a good idea to leave it a few weeks before returning to swimming.  Many women have a follow up appointment after radiotherapy (around 6 weeks or so after treatment has finished) so it can be helpful to wait until this appointment to check that you are fit to go back in the pool.

If you won’t have an appointment in this sort of time frame, do ring and speak to your breast care nurse to clarify what instructions they’d like you to follow.

Swimming after radiotherapy

Hi, seen my oncologist this am and forgot to ask about swimming and radiotherapy. Due to start radiotherapy end of January throughout February. Just wondering how long following completion of radiotherapy I should leave o(is sensible to leave) before swimming ?

Thanks,
