Tamoxifen as prevention

Re: Tamoxifen as prevention

Hi Mary13

Thanks for posting.

It’s natural to require more information about taking tamoxifen to reduce your risk of developing breast cancer, as this is an important decision for you.

You could contact the clinic where you had your genetic testing performed to discuss this further. If you’ve been discharged, your GP may be able to refer you back there. Research has proven that those with moderate risk of developing breast cancer because of family history, may benefit from taking tamoxifen.

You’re also welcome to call our free, confidential Helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The number is 0808 800 6000.

Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday. Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.

We are currently reviewing our Forum service and wonder if you would have five to 10 minutes to complete a short survey. The survey will help us gather information about this service and understand more about any improvements we can make.

Best wishes

Tamoxifen as prevention

My genetic testing came back as moderate risk so for the last four years I have been going for checkups and a mammogram, today when I went for my mammogram I have been given the option to take tamoxifen for five years and was given a sheet of paper and the website address to google the information in which I felt slightly let down with. I spoke with someone at Maggies care centre who are going to look into it and get back to me As they don’t have the relevant information to hand but suggested I write on this forum to see if anyone else is in the same situation as me or is anyone taking thyroxine after having results from genetic testing. I can’t make this decision on my own as I feel I need to speak to someone experience of dealing with this situation and would appreciate anybody letting me know your thoughts and views thank you in advance
