Re: Underarm

Hi Maggiemay

Thank you for your post.

We encourage everyone to be breast aware after breast cancer treatment.

Breast and changes to the armpit can happen for many reasons including hormonal changes and be part of your monthly cycle (periods), or as you say in your post ‘time of the month’.

It is always best to see your GP as you have done to find out what the cause of your symptom is. As you are still getting pain and have a history of breast cancer it may be helpful to talk it through with your GP again.

Do call our Helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks.

The number is 0808 800 6000 (Text relay prefix 18001).

If you would like a nurse to call you do complete this form. Ticking the box agreeing to a call back.

Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday. Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.

Best wishes

I was diagnosed with breast cancer July 2018, left breast, stage 1. I received surgery September - lump removed and 3 lymph nodes received. Over the past year I have been getting a pain in my armpit during my  time of the month. I have been to the GP as the last time there was a swelling but went down by the time I got my appointment. She did say there was no lumps or lymph node swollen.

Would you say this was normal? Any advice would be amazing.

Thank you!
