Vinorelbine

What’s the average time on this medication? I know it’s a ‘how long is a piece of string question’ but a ball point please?

Hi Beebs

Thank you for your post.

Vinorelbine is a chemotherapy drug which can be given orally (by mouth) or intravenously (in the vein) to treat secondary breast cancer. It may sometimes be given in combination with other drugs.

It’s difficult for us to give an overall average time people will be on this medication.  For individuals it can depend on a number of factors such as what treatments they’ve had previously for their secondary breast cancer and their response to that treatment. Everyone is different and each person’s case is different, since no two cancers progress (spread or develop in new areas) or respond to each treatment in the same way.

If the drug is being prescribed for you, your treatment team are the best people to talk with you more about this. The drug will be given for as long as they feel you are benefitting from it, and you don’t have any problems with it.

We provide a number of different services for people living with secondary breast cancer aimed at providing both information and support through our Living with Secondary Breast Cancer Online programme and virtual meetings. Our face to face Living with Secondary Breast Cancer monthly meet up groups also give you the chance to meet and share experiences with other people who understand what you’re going through because they’re going through it too.
