Re: rib pain

Hi Bloom

Thanks for posting asking about the rib pain you are experiencing.

It’s difficult to say why you are getting pain in your rib and whether it is to do with you slipping in the bath or due to your previous breast cancer. Nearly everyone who has been treated for cancer worries about it coming back (recurrence) and you’re not alone in feeling anxious about this.

As you have been experiencing pain in your rib for a couple of weeks and it continues to be very sore, we would always suggest contacting your GP to get it checked out. Your GP will assess you and let you know if any further tests are needed.

If you are still being followed up by your hospital-based team, it may also be helpful to contact your breast care nurse to talk it through.

Do call our Helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks.

The number is 0808 800 6000, (Relay UK -prefix 18001).

If you would like a nurse to call you do complete this form. Ticking the box agreeing to a call back.

Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday. Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.

Please be aware our Helpline will be closed on Saturday 6 November for training purposes

Best wishes

Louise

rib pain

I've had a sore rib for a couple of weeks now. ok when walking about but lying down and changing position lying down very sore. Once I'm settled its ok. I slipped in the bath a few weeks ago and thought I'd banged my thigh but had no issue with ribs at the time. It started a week or so later and wasn't too bad initially.  I was diagnosed 6 years ago on other side to where the pain is. How long should I give it to see if its just healing from this knock or if it could be related to my previous cancer? and then would it be best to contact GP or breast care nurses?
