Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Hi Corrina, yes I heard that. I’ve been on unsweetened almond milk since diagnosis too but mine was tn. I read they can put things into normal milk so I switched. But can’t wait to get back on my matcha powder green tea once rads are done too as not been able to have it since starting chemo as onc said no to that. Hope that helps 💕💕shi xx

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Hi ck, I’ve read about the mushrooms too, maitake ( their no that’s how you spell it) and shiitake ones are suppos d to have additional benefits and brown rice rather than white rice. Keeping sugar intake low and keeping off the booze too. There is such a lot of info out there, things are worth a try for sure and the diets vary for the different types of bc too. 💕💕shi xx

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Themadwife, how annoying to have such a delay. My appointments are at a similar time, not looking forward to fighting rush hour traffic or having delays.

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Waiting for 3rd session... long journey at rush hour for 5.30 appoint. Looks like an hour delay today 😱 breast is definitely more tender already...

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Shi asked me if i would hop in to give any advice for rads i finished mine 10th Jan best advice i can give yoy all is drink plenty rest plenty use yoyr moisturiser twice daily unless your team tells you otherwise wise i used QV cream which was given by hospital theam keep a close eye on your skin mine started to go pink by day 10 when i was told to increase to 4 times daily i gad axilla rads too so for anyone having then it can get quite sore under there wear as light and loose fitting tops as possible go braless as often as possible don't use scented soap when my skin peaked in redness after rads funished day 7 i used flamazine which your GP could prescribe or rads team i fiund it nice talking to others there whilst waiting you csn request music if you want to, rads is very doable especially compared to chemo but watch out for tiredness go with it plenty of early nights 😊
Phew thats alot of info but hope it helps this will f
Definitely be the rads party thread as the Oct chemo girls are up for a good laugh goid luck everyone xx

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Hiyer some places seem to remark everyday, I've heard others say that too, where I was they didn't though and I only had the drawings for the first session where they did the planning. Not sure why that is...maybe different units use slightly different methods and protocols for getting the same results.

Meesh, the marks will be gone in two weeks, honestly...lol They won;t think you are manky.

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

They re-mark every day too - so by the end of it you will resemble a child's piece of art!

I gave up removing every day - just used to make an effort at the weekends!

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Thanks charys, I'm sure it'll disappear before I start rads in a couple of weeks. Just feel that if it's still there in 2 weeks time they'll think I'm right manky! 😂

The mad wife glad to hear you’ve taken time off for rads, if you don’t mind me asking how long since you had your op? Just wanted to check with you so we will know to keep eye on our op scars too. Sahood thanks very much for mentioning the moogoo, meesh had mentioned on our Oct 🚂too it’s good to know it works 👍👍👍think my fingers will be 💃🏻💃🏻🕺🕺💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻To the order button 😁😁😁😘😘😘💕💕💕shi xx

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Leave it Meesh, the pen marks, I had those too. They will come off in their own good time, and by scrubbing and rubbing to try and remove them you will make the skin tender during rads.

Member

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

I had sticky tape and biro too. Now off for my shower and hopefully last daily hair wash, so will see if I can finally get it off 😕

Member

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Sorry Meesh can’t help with biro question, the only marks I got were my tattoos. They stuck stickers on me that they removed afterwards.

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

I'm going to try and work through mine, but will see how I go. If I can do it then great, if not then I won't.

Shi, Diana Ross chain reaction haven't heard that one in ages 💃🕺🏻💃🕺🏻🕺🏻💃Have an appt with onc this afternoon, hopefully she's going to answer all my questions and take a look at my manky scalp!

Hi themadwife, welcome to our band of merry women. I had rads planning on Monday and start 12/2 so a couple of weeks to go yet. I also have approx 2hour round trip too it's going to be a right pain especially as my appts are in rush hour time too 😔 Mind you I think as OH will be driving I can just listen to the radio and 🎶 and 💃🕺🏻🎉🕺🏻along.

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Hi

Went fine...Im quite laid back ( and a health professional) so dont get too stressed. But I can feel it already. Although a small tumour, it was right in middle of my breast (38C) so I have suffered a lot of post op pain and I can feel it this morning...Just off to get glass of water!

I havent gone back to work and wont, because of amount of travelling. I was planning to, but GP was adamant I would cope better if I took all time off. For once Im doing as told!

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Hi

can I join the group, I actually started yesterday, but it’s almost February !

im 54, DCIS GRADE 3 diagnosed by routine mammogram. No symptoms. Lumpectomy 21/12. Had first of 15 treatments yesterday. Have to travel an hour each way to treatment, which is frustrating.

Love to you all

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Sahood, thanks someone else recommended the moogoo and I ordered their oncology pack last night. I might also get some e45 and start with that and see how it goes. I like to have a range of options just in case.

Shi, thanks for tip on rashes. I let my team know I had that issue during chemo and that I thought it might be the aveeno.

Did anyone else gave trouble getting the biro off their skin? I've had a bath and shower and despite scrubbing with soap the biro is still there 🙄

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

I can recommend an excellent cream that I used during my radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Its from a company called Moogoo its there udder cream. They have a helpful website and you can buy on line. They will also send free samples. I had 15 sessions of radiotherapy and had no skin problems, not even a red mark. Good luck!

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Just had a look at jan rads thread and one of the ladies has been given zerobase cream from her trust and also recommends betnovate hydrocortisone cream for a rash, Just thought I’d post on here so we have something else to ask for as well as the medi honey if any of us need it 💕💕shi xx

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Ladies - from personal experience, I'd just stick to E45 cream - 2x a day - at least 2 hours before treatment. I increased to 3x day (one being directly after treatment) in the 10-15 day period.

All other creams are good for afterwards - esp the aloe vera - as it's afterwards that the burns really do come to the surface.

I was given medi honey cream from the rads dept as a precaution on my MX wound and lymph node removal scar. It was amazing cream but not something you'll hopefully need throughout rads.

The rads team are so professional - they will be checking your skin everyday for any signs of needing more intense creams - remember, they are working with rads everyday and will have the best advice to suit you.

Keeping hydrated with water is recommended for flushing through the system and helping with fatigue - so remember to keep that up too!

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Hi meesh, no I’ve not been given any cream for rads, they suggested e45 to me too, my cousin who is bc survivor used acqueous cream, so I’m starting with that and see how I get on. I think Aveno and also aloe Vera are supposed to be good and think we should be prescribed medi honey by trusts if we get any problems. I’m going to pm you in a minute too 💕💕shi xx

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Shi, has your hospital supplied your moisturiser for rads? If so what did they provide? My hospital doesn't but have made suggestions E45, aloe Vera gel 99.9%, avenue or diprobase. I'm a bit worried as I've got Aveeno but I got that rash when I used it during chemo, which I told them so they advised not to use that.

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Shi, great tune while we're in the waiting lounge for rads! 💃🕺🏻💃🕺🏻💃🕺🏻

Chaffinch I think I'd be tempted to walk if it was a 3 mile round trip but I've had to switch hospitals for rads and now have 50 min drive 😔I've now got all my times and most of them are 16:30-17:30 which i'm not sure is a good time. Especially as the second 2 weeks the kitchen fitters will be in. OH is insisting on taking me to each appointment, might see How I go and if I'm capable of driving myself for some.

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Flip Chaffinch, you are one strong and courageous woman planning that each day too! Take it easy though right, don't feel you have to continue with it if it affects you too much.

They are a bold lot in here this month Ann Smiley Wink

Welcome CK. I also 'enjoyed' rads. I had a right laugh there, and some good chats with the receptionist and other patients.

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Another disruptive influence here, joining from the October chemo thread. We’re all crazy in a good way. I don’t start rads until 26th but still Strictly February so here I am.
I intend to walk there and back every day probably about 3 mile round trip and combine it with the 10,000 steps a day challenge for March that Cancer Research are running. Hope I’m allowed to mention other charities here?
Chemo has had me down but not out, so keeping on keeping on.

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

😂CK!
Odd though it seems, some of us here have quite enjoyed rads. I did find it interesting as I was able to take time off work, got to know the team & others in a similar time slot. I remember one particularly relaxing session, with that old hit ‘Me & Mrs Jones’ playing & a lovely video of forest glades & waterfalls. I know how to have a good time!!!

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Meesh that makes sense about your hair I bet that’s what’s whiffing. Years ago on tv, this woman didn’t wash her hair for weeks and she said her hair whiffed but after how ever long it was the bodies natural oils cleaned her hair or something like that but there was a whiff stage. You’ve done amazing sticking with the cold cap 💪💪💪you and dizzy will be swishing the locks at the meet up, the rest of us will be rocking the sineads, cara’s, Kate Hudson’s and a few Demi moores gi janes 😁😁😁I just love the feeling like a little kid line in that song, because after the chemo journey we’ve been on, I feel like 🤸‍♀️On the 🏖, Roley poleying down a grass bank, going to the park and swinging as high as you can on the swings and having a double 99 in the summer 😁😁😁💕💕💕shi xx

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Shi, yes I googled about the smell and apparently it is a thing, although most people say they can smell a chemically smell. I can just smell a really bad sort of unwashed dirty smell. It's weird I think it comes from my head but I'm now washing my hair every day and I still smell it, but when I smell my hats or pillow it's not on them. OH has smelt my head and said it does smell different. I read that it should go eventually.

Love a bit of Elton John 💃💃🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻💃👯‍♂️👯🎊🎉🕺🏻💃👯‍♂️

Meesh, I am sure once the chemos worked its way out of your system that smell will go, also while on chemo I’ve noticed things have smelt different too anyway have you? Bit of Elton John, I’m still standing in the rads Sunbed shop this morning to get us all 💃🏻💃🏻🕺💃🏻💃🏻In the mood ready for rads start Feb 😁😁😁😁😘😘😘💕💕shi xx

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

😂🤣😂🤣😂Shi, that doesn't sound like a bad idea! I still smell like a tramp so a bit of coconut perfume would make everyone happy! I really hope that smell goes away soon as I wouldn't want to be left with that as a permanent SE of chemo😕

Re: February 2018 Radiotherapy

Hi Jaxxi I’ve got 15 and 5 boosters due to start 15/2, not on tamoxifen or anything as I’m tn. Meesh I’m going to get a perfume that smells of coconuts to spritz on my clothes during rads so the rads Sunbed session will smell like the Sunbed shop too and if we get a bit of 🥓🥓🥓going on could make it smell more like a sweet n sour Chinese 🍜🍜😁😁😁back onto food again 😁😁😁💃🏻💃🏻🕺🕺💕💕shi xx
