I was advised to use E45 and that that should suffice. It seems to be keeping my skin moist, which is the purpose of it. My main issue is that the skin under my breast is very red. They suggest leaving your bra off as much as possible and letting your skin air out. Any rubbing of clothing against the radiated area could aggravate the skin. My chest is also very red and a little sore to the touch but I understand that improves over time.
I’m surprised your radiotherapy nurse hasn’t advised you but anything goes so long as it doesn’t have any oil or perfume in it. Personally, I used Aqueous BP (about £4-5 for 100g on Amazon) as the hospital had given me a tube. I still use it, almost a year on, to keep my mastectomy scar supple. E45 and Aveeno are also popular. This is a case where the most basic/cheap may well be the best. You’ll use it a lot, before and after treatment and possibly for months after if you need to massage the area.
Hope it goes well. The worst I got was a mild itch until a few months later. You also need to get SPF50 cream to use every single day on your neck (if you have it to the collar bone), your décolletage and the whole breast area (for nasty rays that penetrate clothes). I’m afraid sunbathing on the beach will not be happening without a big hat and scarf carefully draped!!
Take care x
there are lots of moisturising creams that are used for radiotherapy.
for me personally i used Aveeno right the way through my 15 sessions. Used to apply at least twice daily and had no problems at all with my skin. Remember to drink lots of fluids.. any questions please just ask. Mini mad xx 💖💖
hi, I used r1 and r2 as recommended by my oncologist, I got it on prescription from the gp but I had to be persistent as it’s expensive, tho you can buy it yourself online
it’s specifically for radiotherapy patients and I had no problems with my skin whatsoever apart from a nice tan on the boob. I had rads to 3 areas too. I went away 6 weeks later and had no problems on the sun either. I’d highly recommend it.
hope all does well for you x
