Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

THe surgeon was lovely as was the nurse, she went on to talking about bras and false boobs, and I (horribly) thought just shut up!  Shut up!  its not the bloody same.......shut up

She showed me this sponge thing, and i looked at it, didnt touch it, but thought thats me, thats going to be me.  Waking up after the op, glance down and just more disfigurement, more heartache, more "how much more can I take"

I am and always have been a strong person, but sometimes, it just gets too much and sometimes, that strong person isnt who you think they are.......hurting

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

BP, when my wife was diagnosed about 5 weeks ago now it worst news ever. We're still waiting for the full oncology report, but I think we want treatment to begin as soon as so that this horrible thing is got rid of. I've found this forum a great help, it doesn't stop the tears but it really is good to talk to people who are going through the same thing x

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

Ok, so I went for my consultation on Monday and this time took a friend.  Glad I did as the news was I need a mastectomy, I just cant believe it.  My world has imploded, thought the diagnosis was bad, but now this, words truly fail me.  On top of that I also two years ago was diagnosed with crohs/colitis, and after a routine exam, the surgeon ruptured my bowel and I ended up with peritonitis and now have a stoma!  At just turned 50 this year, its been utterly dreadful.

I recently came out of a horrendous relationship and I tried so hard to get myself up and running and done chartity walk, and been on lots of mini breaks and kept healthy and busy and now this!

I feel like I am going to be a freak, stoma and one breast.....................

Yep, doesn't matter if you're rich, poor, a townie or a country dweller, BC can get you, the little **bleep**! Fat, thin, active or unfit, it respects no one. Let's kick it in the arse! Now been told I have to take a calcium supplement as my bone scan shows early signs of osteoporosis. Oh joy another tablet to add to the pill box! Need to do some weight bearing exercise apparently. Does carrying a large bar of chocolate count for this?! Hope you all have a good night's sleep. Anything more than 4 hours will be a bonus for me. 💤💤

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

That is our nearest hospital lol, we live out in the country 25 miles from Ipswich.

We are midway between Ipswich and Great yarmouth, no hospitals in between unfortunately.

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

Hi Amanda and everyone else. It was fairly useful. The doc said although oestrogen levels are boosted to harvest the eggs, he said no evidence shows it does any further harm. We've got a small window. So just going to do the early testing first. I think she was glad to get home alright, thankfully noone knocked into her which is amazing for central London! Xx

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

Hope you and Nikki had a productive appointment today, Barry and that journey went ok. Bet Nikki is exhausted now...you too, probably!

I was told that radiotherapy would start to tire you as it progresses, try to get as much rest as you can Jill.

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

That's a long way! No hospitals near you? Some people have offered to take her to chemotherapy when she has it, if not we'll get a cab ( more incentives for me to learn to drive) x

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

You will just have to take it slowly Barry, stop and rest when you can even if just for 5 mins and get her to take some painkillers before you set off(not strong ones).

Fiona, if there are no complications I think you will be fine just need lots of padding around your boob as seat belt rubs against your wound.just don't plan to do too much while you are there.

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

Well my first op was on my birthday, 10 Feb, so perhaps it's a good omen. Some present! I was diagnosed on 27 Jan, seems like a lifetime away. No sign of that tiny pucker I first noticed now, think it's sitting in the path lab along with most of my right boob, lol. Sorry, too much information! Time for bed. Night all. X Francine

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

Evening Francine. Bean sprouts are vegetables the last time I checked 😉 The horrible waiting game. They should give you a health warning about it! x

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

Evening all. I've been on a sensible eating plan today, well it made sense to me! Cheese and crisp sandwich for lunch (brown bread of course) and a chinese for tea. No sprouts I'm afraid, do bean sprouts count? Have my date for my results now, 17 Sep. Going to be a long 2 weeks so am stocking up on Cadbury's chocolate fingers! Sending hugs to everyone fighting the **bleep**ty BC. X Francine

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

Hold on a minute Jill, I said I'd agree to chemo, but I didn't say anything about eating sprouts, THAT really would be the limit ! Only joking actually, I love them! Congratulations on being over half way through radiotherapy, you're on the downward slope now, heading back to a normal life - whatever normal is!! Xx

Thanks Sarah same back to you. It's so hard with little ones but then at times I do think the fact they are unaware is a bit easier. I can't bring myself to say anything to my adorable 5 year old. She's such a sensitive girl and practical my shadow. Barrie I think it's just when the lump is big and hercep positive xxx

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

Some surgeons decided to do chemo first to shrink the tumour and sometimes it makes it disappear I think it depends on the type of b.c it is

Re: Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

I get all the books from Amazon. I'm yet to start my treatment. So far have had ct scan which I'm still nervously waiting on results. I'm starting my chemo next Wednesday and my last one will be 23rd dec then having mastectomy. I was shocked when they decided this way round but fully support the decision. I have a 1 and 5 year old xx
