Oh Carole, I'm totally lost for words, so sorry I wasn't on last night as ide been away. So much harder when you are on your own too. I know she will be a major loss to you, but I'm sure you knew it was the right thing to do for her to end her pain poor thing, but like you said doesn't end yours. Sending you the biggest hugs possible at this awful time xxxxxxx
Such a loss . You know you did the right thing, but it doesn't make it any easier does it? I'm crying right now for you and also for my old girl, even though it was over 20 years ago when I had to make the same decision as you, after she had had 16 good years. I still miss her. So sorry for how you are feeling right now. xxxx
Thank you Optimissy for your kind thoughts and words.
The vet came this morning to put her to sleep. She was still un responsive and in a sort of coma.
I'm lost for words, just so devastated, she was my best friend, always here for me. Her pain has finished and she is sleeping peacefully now.
My pain however...............
Oh Peacock I've just seen your post - how dreadful for you, and being on your own at this sad time is the pits. It is so sad to see pets suffering and having to make "that" decision about when the time has come. I do hope she is better tomorrow, but it sounds like you are prepared for that brave step that all pet owners have to make at some point. Really sorry you are facing this on your own, but hugs to you from someone who knows what this sort of situation is like. xxx
Hi Lisa hope the film and treats for the children were fun.sounds wonderful wish I could have joined you lol.
I spoke too soon...... during Friday/Saturday night Heidi had a small fit and yesterday seemed normal, happy, tail wagging etc.
I went to the dentist, shortly after I got back she had another fit, slightly worse. An hour after that another fit, only this time it lasted for 1 hour 45 min, during which time I was speaking to the vet and trying to find someone who could help me lift her to the car, at 27 kilos and a dog still fitting, I couldn't do it by myself. The neighbours were phoning around to try to find someone but no one was here. Eventually I managed to find someone and off we went to the vet. They set up drips, took blood and gave her phenol barbitol, valium and kept her hospitalised overnight.
I went to collect her this morning, and, since we have arrived home at 12.30 she has been comatose, or sleeping very deeply. She is too unawake to eat, drink, take her medications and the vet said she couldn't swallow so not to feed her. I've tried to give her valium, disolved in a tiny bit of water but I'm not sure that helped. I have rectal valium but can't work out how to open the glass vials. I am at a desperate stage, I may have to get her back to the vet tomorrow if I can't get her to drink as she will be dehydrating. She is incontinent so I have to mop that up, it's not her fault she doesn't know she is doing it. Fortunately she is in our utility room, so it doesn't really matter. We have a dog flap if she can get up to go out into a small fenced area, but she can't move, doesn't appear to be awake or aware of anything. So, at least she is not in pain.
I am very sad, it's so awful to see and wish I had someone with me. I have questioned putting her to sleep, but, tomorrow she may be better and a bit more responsive. If not, I think her time has come. I question whether such a long fit has caused severe brain damage, and myself I think the seizures are a brain tumour, hence why none of the medications are working.
Sorry to be typing such a negative post, it's so hard, especially not having someone here to help and support.
Hope you all stayed warm today and was not affected by snow . Love Carole xx
Hi everyone, how are you all getting on in this horrible weather. Unexpectedly we woke up to snow and a lot of it. Nobody could move in our road. We had 2 little boys staying so they were very excited but it took some planning to get them back to parents as we had to walk to where they could get to safely. The boys were thrilled to be out in it and pelted grandad with snowballs all the way there. Lucky nanna wasn't considered as much fun and had offered to film this instead ha ha. It was a bit of a nightmare as they are curous little people and we have presents everywhere so I said if you look at one I am throwing it away. They didn't. Well not as far as i am aware! Had a bit of time to do more internet shopping as I couldn't get to visit mum. Luckily my brother is trapped at hers so has to do the lot. Hmmm nice one. Hope you sorted the oven out Nicky, sp annoying not to have taken it out but most of the time they are useless. Did you enjoy having your little one round? How are you getting on with the tablets? Any side effects?
Lisa it must be a big shock Tenerife temperatures to minus figures, so wrap up warm or you will get the usual post holiday cold. Must have been lovely. How is work?
Carole fingers crossed doggy is ok for you. Well who needs the gym before Christmas? It would just get wasted with lovely foods around.Enjoy. Maybe you can visit your little GD in the spring which won't be long.
Sorry I had internet trouble and Victor was away so I didn't know what to do to sort it out. Wifi worked though and I couldn't get my head round it. He was in Cornwall and the hotel told him he had to walk to the top of the hill and stand the other side of the church to be able to ring me on his mob, so he didn't. He said they had quite stormy/windy weather while there. Then I caught a bug while he was away. I managed to soldier on taking tablets but I had a bright red face for 2 days with a temperature and such a sore throat. I am on day 11 now and still coughing, headache almost every day and sinus playing up. Just wondering whether to take another tablet the chemist gave me as had rather bizarre reaction last night and wondered if the drug is related to the one I am not allowed to take now! Just like insects kept landing on me, then got all sweaty but just across my chest, then something odd with my foot.Bit itchy today all over. I wonder whether I dreamt it or it happened lol.I've talked myself out of it reading that back, might try one in the day instead. Better go. Hugs Lily x
Hi all, as ever it's late when I log in and very tired, work is manic but I had a lovely break in Tenerife, it was 24 degrees so lovely warm break as opposed to the ice and snow on cars today. Well I will catch up on Sunday, off to Glasgow tomorrow it's the kids Xmas pressie from me, Harry Potter film with orchastrer and Xmas market and waffle parlour..... brrrh.... mind going to Scotland always remind me of our Val xxxx
well hope everyone is okay and I wanna catch up with gossip at the weekend xxxx
I apologise once again for not keeping up to date as often. I just don't know where the time goes even though I am not working. Doing simple housework takes me a couple of hours and after which I am exhausted.
My battery is about to die so just a quick one.
Nicky how did the sleepover go this time. Lucky you, am jealous our new GD is smiling and gurgling but i've only seen videos and photos so not the same.
Touching wood as I type Heidi has been ok for 2 1/2 weeks now so hopefully she is on the right medication, but as I am alone again who knows........... it always happens.
My gym sessions were cancelled as the machine has broken down. Not sure what is happening now but I might as well wait until after Christmas as nothing is likely to happen before.
Lily, you've been quiet hope everything is ok? Tenerife looked nice and sunny Lisa, a bit different to your weather now I think lol.
Well better get on, have a good weekend everyone, love Carole xx
Its always a busy time of the year for me, what with a lot of birthdays towards the end of the year and then straight into Christmas shopping. I try to do that in stages rather than one huge trip (as I don't have the energy to trawl the shops for hours at a time) so my days get busy and I don't seem to get on here much. I have no idea how I fitted in regular hospital trips last year (and the year before, and the year before......)! Anyway good to hear that the mammon were clear Lily, no more squashed breast for a while! And Carole, it's good to hear a change in medications could be helping with the heart. I know they always check your thyroid activity when assessing atrial fibrillation as that can be one of the causes. Hope you get on with the gym, it will be something that you might really enjoy getting out to do, especially at this time of the year when it's not always easy to get outside for excercise. I can't believe you had snow! We've just had either dull and mild weather to chilly and sunny so it's not been too bad so far. I can sympathise with the possible breakdown of kitchen appliances. I made a huge mistake earlier this year by not renewing the warranty on the combination microwave that is fitted in our kitchen. It was there from the beginning and although I wouldn't have chosen an integrafed one it has been so useful. Anyway, you guessed it the bloody thing has broken. This has been dragging on now for a few weeks with one incompetent 'repairer' ( I use the term very loosely!) whi was hopeless even though they were local and their online info showed they did repair this make of product. I then had to call out a fully authorised repairer who has now told me the spare parts are no longer made and I've now had to order a new one. Ouch they are so expensive, if I'd renewed the warranty I would have had a new one fitted if the old one couldn't be repaired. Not a happy bunny, and I've told OH that in no circumstances is this my Christmas present!
Ive also been seeing our lovely GS who is now at the smiley, laughing stage and for some reason he finds his grandma (I actually call myself glam-ma) very funny so I get lots of laughs and smiles from him. Just as well as he'll be having another sleepover with us next weekend when ED and her hubby have a night away for her birthday. All she actually wants is a good nights sleep - which is quite easy to arrange but very difficult to wrap ha ha.
Have a good week all
Hi everyone, how are you? Lisa I bet the sofa is in your lounge now and all the work finished. I hope you enjoy just being in it after a lot of stress and preparation. A holiday sounds just the thing. Lucky you. Carole how is heidi getting on with the new medication? Hopefully more settled so you don't have to be on red alert too. How is your shopping getting on? i have done quite a bit online too as the partners of my kids all tend to respond to a what would you like for Chrostmas with a 'polite how much.' Followed by an exact image and shop site of what they would like. Saves a lot of time but people don't get the surprises these days do they? Less fun.
Wow I don't know if one of you is about to bounce this but one minute I was replying to Nick's last post and then I was back at page 1 and then reversed the other way! Very confusing.
Nicky thank you for posting! I think we have all slid into read and back to the sofa. Well a lot of good programmes plus cold weather makes it easy to watch tv and get comfy. Needle free sounds lovely and a well deserved rest from the vampires. I have had my mammos and its a 2 weeks wait so hopefully will hear next week some time. Ha ha I forgot you aren't keen on Christmas shopping but surely this year, it is much more fun? Bet you have been in the toy department a few times. Yes we have eds birthday too and now little pink in the same month. Then 2 of the boys early Jan so I double buy for those 4 each year. Gets very confusing at times. All i seem to have said to Victor this week is transfer £x to people to cover things they have seen and bought for me. First smiles lovely then the next thing teeth start arggh. I love the tiny baby stage myslef as you just have so few days when they are helpless and needy and really tiny. Well I love every stage actually except potty training. Yes the wedding is likely to be cold but it is all inside apart from a dash from the car to the venue so hopefully we can manage that without too much wrecked hair. I am trying to persuade md not to bother paying vast amounts for a summer date as its so unreliable in thsi country. Some add £10,000, quite ridiculous as no weather is ever certain. Its looking more likely that we will have another next year. The vaults are creaking at how often i am digging cash out of them. No chance of retiring at this rate. I must book a holiday before Victor realises this. He is busy working on another speech. He has more than his fair share to think of ha ha.
Lisa can I add my hopes too that the floods have not affected anyone you know. i remember when the bridge went and you had to drive miles and miles to get across.
Take care all and get shopping. Love Lily xxx
Hi ladies, how is everyone?
I've just been so busy recently I've not had time to catch up on anything, and defitiely not had the time to login and therefore write anything, oops, must try harder.
Nothing to report other than just getting on with needle-free/hospital-free life which is why I've been so busy. That and getting on with the dreaded Christmas shopping, before it gets too manic in the shops. Plus ED has her birthday of course and now also checking out baby things for the first time in 25 years or so. Little chap is getting on well and smiling and laughing away now which is so nice for the worn out parents. I think a nurse friend of mine said that this all happens around 6 weeks or so for a reason! All those sleepless nights and suddenly you are rewarded with a smile - if it didn't happen it would be such a slog.
So, enough about me, how are you all doing? Hoping the floods didn't affect you, or your family/friends Lisa. I'm not sure exactly where they hit but was aware it was in your neck of the woods - or nearby at any rate. We had a lot of strong winds for a couple of days and now have a spell of frost - or so they say. Last night was pretty chilly as OH and I wandered down to our local pub for something to eat and all the cars on the way back had ice all over them. Enjoy Tenerife Lisa - you lucky thing, a bit of sun at this time of the year is just what's needed, especially as you've said how bad work is at the moment.
Lily, your outfit sounds lovely and a good idea to have a choice of shoes. I did the same for EDs wedding and am glad I did as I don't think my feet would have survived. How exciting to have that to look forward to. We went to a friend's daughter's wedding a few years back in early december and it was so pretty with all the frost - but bloody freezing for the bride and bridesmaids!
Carole, I hope Heidi is not having any more fits and things have calmed down. I don't want you to become more of a drug taking alcoholic that you mentioned ha ha. A tough time of the year `i expect for you as the nights close in and Mr P is away. Is he off for Christmas? Hope he is and you can enjoy some time together, with YD as well if she is around. We don't get to see much of YD these days with her long days at the restaurant but she is really enjoying herself and has definitely chosen her forte. Where it takes her eventually, who knows, but she much prefers chef life to office life which is great. Unfortunately she does have to work on Christmas Day so we will have a delayed one this year and have our turkey on Boxing Day instead which we are all quite happy to do.
Well, that's me for now, have a good weekend.
nice weekend. Lisa hope you feel better soon and the holiday will definitely cheer you up. You never take the easy route with decorating do you! I bet you are thrilled when it is all sone though. What colours and style have you picked? I still love my new bedroom every time I walk in the room and it does make me want to do more rooms but so expensive if you chuck everything. I only have to walk through a shop like Next home and I want to throw everything away and start on a new colour theme! Oh I am sorry work is grim. Is it staff going or new staff changing everything? Well remind me never to share with you either then lol. The sales of pjs must have hit an all time low ha ha. I think nudists scare me a bit. I really must complete my outfit now you have reminded me. It sa cream silk dress with floral sections on it. I think it looks like a vintage tea dress. really lovely fabric to wear, plain top and flared slightly as it goes through the skirt section. Jack Vert fancy jacket in a pale shade that changes according to what you wear. With the cream of the dress it looks very slighly peach. Its odd because the bag does the same and its sparkly but not bright shiny, more matt so it picks the colour up again. The personal shopper sorted jewellery out with a long string of pearls ties in a knot which apparently changes my body shape completely. Who knew this could happen ha ha. Maybe I should sleep in pearls 🙂 Again they have a hint of colour rather than traditional shade. I couldn't find any shoes in the right shade so have gold sandals with little straps that wrap around the ankle and a slightly square heel so i can walk sensibly. Then gold flatties for dancing. Still not sure whether to have hair up or down and ed has dared me to be indecisive on the day as the hairdresser has a lot of us to sort out. My hair is really long now so too many choices. I need to put it all on and ask the girls which looks best. I have a second and a third dress but trying not to get distracted by them. Christmas and the wedding all far too exciting in one week. Today md has come in and announced she has found her dream venue!! Then she siad she had time for another baby before the wedding, so no idea what they are all up to. How much fun is being young! Well better stop talking and see the end of jungle. Are you watching? Love Lily xx
Hi all, I'm back, well in a fashion. Lovely to catch up on gossip although no much to tell on my part.LILY.....how on earth can someone share with a stranger starkers.... I love sleeping au natural but wouldn't dream of it with others. Oh please tell re wedding outfit too.
carol, sounds so awful re heidi, it's so awful as they can't tell you how bad they feel xx
nicky, how you doing? I couldn't find your masterpiece in paper ..????
nothing much to report here, work in dire I could cry it's so sad but sure it will all come out in the wash. I'm also mid living room decoration, so have a carpet and nothing else, sofa landing on Monday can't wait.... on antibiotics as got a chest infection so hope it disappears before a week tomorrow as heading off to Tenerife doe 5 nights 😍😍😍😍😍
oh Carole I really hate animal illnesses because they are so expensive but you never quite know what to do. i think vets pedal out tablets far quicker for pets than a dr would for us! Is she insured as a scan will be a substantial cost on top of the tablets. The poo as well as the bills, oh yuk poor you. Typical that no-one else is there to share the cleaning either. Is she quite old now or can you hope to see her through a few more years ? I feel like I have known about her for a long time, from our other thread too. What a shame and she must wonder what is going on. My mum's friend's dog has had major fits since having its first rabies shot to travel in Europe.I will see if I can find out what drug they take here as she is really pleased with his progress. Hope you can catch up on some sleep tonight.
What is it with all you nudists? I am a sleepwalker so best I keep it all neatly tucked in ha ha. My insomnia is very handy for late nights as I don't really feel tired very often at all, I would be a great night watchperson. Well the blood test was not for me. i found this out after sending Victor to collect it and the receptionist not knowing what he was talking about. He will never go for me again! It was for one of my relatives but sent to my mobile we eventually found out?? So I am not having one. The wedding is just after Christmas and with md getting excited too I think we will have another one next year. The savings are going to take a big dip. I hope things sort out Carole, such a worry with our lovely pets, especially when you are on your own.
Well i could not believe that there was a Christmas song on the radio today and Christmas lights had appeared around our local shops. I thought it was a bit early really. I have actually bought quite a few presents already. 3 of my littles plus my son have birthdays less than a month from xmas, so I just buy everything I see and think they would like and then split the presents between the 2 events. So far its football team shirts ouch that was a nasty bill. Then ninja turtles and super heros galore and dressing up outfitts. That was good fun to buy but I also like to look for some decent books. Its tricky once they start reading as not many give an indication of age and I too usually shop online for them. Little chap who i should rename big chap really is an adult ability reader but he loves the David Walliams style joke books so I find it hard to choose a set. He reads a book in a day if he likes them so always has to be a set. I think md will kill me if I ever buy him anothe Ripleys believe it or not annual as he told her everything he read apparently ha ha. Well better buzz off. Take care all love Lily xx
Lily the hen night sounds way too frantic for my liking but I’m glad you enjoyed it. How do you sleep with a stranger who is naked???? I have no idea. I sleep naked at home but when anywhere else always with a long t shirt. Did she comment on you snoring? Lol Did you find out why you need to have a blood test? Probably just routine so don’t worry. It sounds like you are getting pretty ready for the wedding, am I right in thinking it is just before Christmas? I like the idea of dried petals as confetti; they probably make more mess than the real stuff. I do have my appointment for a mammo and scan at the end of December.
Lisa how are you feeling now? Is work sorting itself out? What’s the new sofa like?
Nicky, the heart ECG just shows I have an “extremely variable heart beat” but apart from the beta blockers there is no other treatment. Yes it would be difficult for me to do a breast exam as I have no idea which part of the breast is actually breast. Congratulations on passing the sleepover test lol. I hope your heart check-up goes well please let us know.
I have had a pretty bad week, not with myself (although it does give me anxiety) but with Heidi. Firstly most nights last week she needed to go out to the loo every night, so was getting me up to let her out. Then when she came back inside she was restless and pacing around so that was disturbing me too. Last Friday night she had another seizure, and then in the early hours of Saturday morning she had another one, a really bad one which caused her to pant, become incredibly disorientated and again pacing about. I took her into the bedroom for her safety as she was banging into things in the lounge but she still wouldn’t settle, eventually after a couple of hours the smell hit me as she had gone to the toilet in our bathroom and because of pacing it was trod all around! So at 4 am I had to clean up. Then I put her into our utility room where I couldn’t really hear her. She had gone to the toilet again through the rest of the night; goodness knows where it all came from. So on Monday after an exhausting weekend I phoned the vet who agreed that her seizure pills were obviously not working and needed to be changed. Through the night Monday and Tuesday I had to get up and let her out. She has always been such a clean girl so this behaviour is very unusual.
She started her new tablets on Weds evening and they have just hit her for six. She has trouble standing up and keeping on her feet, yesterday she didn’t eat anything and barely drank. Apparently after a severe fit it can take a week for the brain to adjust and as she had 4 fits in less than a week I think this must have really knocked her out. It might take about a week for her to adjust to the new tablets. If she continues to have fits on these, the vet suggests a brain scan to check for a tumour. So we hope these new crème da la crème tablets will work, they should do as we need a second mortgage to pay for them!!!
So what with my own health issues and hers, plus a Frank Bruno of a cat that keeps fighting and Mr P has been away through all of this I’ve turned into a drug taking alcoholic.
I’ve started Christmas buying, well mostly on line so far but it’s a start. That’s it from me for now, have a good weekend everyone and stay warm Love Carole xx
Hi everyone, how are you? Well I have the dreaded big squeeze tomorrow, well 4 of them from memory so keep your fingers crossed they find nothing more than fat and boobs. Well we are building up to frenzy mode for the wedding although it is after Christmas so there are a lot of klittle people scanning the toy adverts and catalogues for latest pressie lists. So wedding fever may have to wait a bit. I have my outfit after visiting the personal shopper for some colour advice but I need to try it on again really. I have 3 pairs of shoes and the hotel room booked so that's my comfort sorted out. Apparently the in thing is to give guests confetti which doesn't look like confetti as I remember it, so we have been packing little bags with little dried flowers and something? There is enough to keep them hoovering for a week! I still need to decide on hair down or up. I quite like a high bun as it makes me taller and goodness knows I need it as Victor is a giant in comparison. Victor as usual is in the wedding party so just have to be measured and no decisions needed. He is still thinking about his speech. The whole event is under one roof so apart from a dash into the building if it rains, we don't have to worry much about the temperature. One less thing to decide. We have a house/dog sitter so we don't have to worry about anything and can have a big family breakfast the next morning too. If my son gets on hunted I will be sending him to visit you lol. How are you getting on with your tablets? Which one is is it? i think I have asked, so sorry if a repeat. Carole can I addmy best wishes that nothing wrong. Do you have a mammo appoitment yet? Lisa get well soon. Love Lily x
Hi all, back from a few days in Glasgow and loaded with awful cough so off to try for some sleep, can't wait to read all the antics tomorrow when eyes are open xxxxx
Sorry for the long lack of responses but a busy time at the moment so I don't get time to be on here as much as usual.
Well, that sounds like some weekend Lily! Glad you got to know your room mate so well also ha ha. I'm sure you all had a great time though, hopefully no sore heads and now full steam ahead for the wedding, when is it? Have you got everything you need to be the MotB? Presumably it's fairly soon so will be a winter, or cold, wedding. In some ways that's easier to plan for than a supposedly summer wedding where the weather can be so disappointing and can ruin the days plans. With a winter wedding any nice weather is treated as a bonus. Hope work is going OK and you're now in the run up to Christmas which is always one of the better terms, whatever the age of the children. Yes, we did watch celebrity Hunted. I think they weren't hunted quite so hard as the normal series as they were doing it for cancer but it was very entertaining as well as raising funds. I think some of them came out of it really well, far better at avoiding capture than you would have thought if them. We've enjoyed the previous two series so I think anyone going on it now, say your son, would know what they are up against - he'd better delete all his online activity now!! The first series they had no idea what they were up against.
Carole, hope the heart echo came back with some information to help you, either as a positive or negative at least you might be able to understand the underlying problem. It's very frustrating to not know what is causing things such as breathlessness etc. I understand your anger at not having routine mammograms and being missed off the list but we often pick up the lumps ourselves a,though this would be more difficult in your case I suppose, so feel free to rant on here.
Lisa, how are things at work now? Have they calmed down or is it just getting worse? Not nice to be stuck in the middle of it all. Is the decorating all done now? At least if it is, and the sofa is delivered, you will at least have some calm at home.
Anyway no real news from me. Been babysitting GS on and off, including his first sleepover which went well enough for them to let him stay again ha ha. If only he'd been upset all night and out of his routine I may not have been asked again. Off fo heart check up soon, I'm not expecting any surprises, but that's when they get you, yikes.
Hi everyone, are you all finding the mornings dark and chilly? Or are you going to make me jealous by saying you snuggle in bed and don't get up!! Scrapping the chair and defogging has to be the most mind numbing job ever to start the day, not to speak of freezing cold doing it. My eyes don't like the headlights coming toward you in the dark and really ache so I am trying to get home before the light goes. Down to age I am sure, booo. Well I had the most exciting weekend I can remember really with fantastic company. There was the spa. I was hesitant but eventually decided I was brave enough to appear in a costume even though i have to admit I jumped in a lot quicker than I would prefer to submerge myself and hide. ha ha. Talked myself into the fact that no-one would even know I was there with so many young beautiful people around. I wonder how they stay so slim these days after babies. Good for them. Afternoon tea with champers. Then a long leisurely time to get ready or just relax in your room, all of which were upgraded and some of the rooms were suites. Not mine but it was a family size room! Then a night out around Covent Garden, first a big bar and then somewhere we had dinner, watched an excellent but deafeningly loud band and then it become a club until just after 4am. It was really popular and packed so a great atmosphere. We had fishbowls of cocktails with giant straws for everyone to use, so no saying really how much went down your throat haha. Drinks were very expensive but you don't seem to worry after you get way down the fish bowl !!! So a good time was had by all and we staggered off back to the hotel about 2.30 leaving md and our lodger to carry on until 4 as they are clearly more competent fishbowlers than the rest of us. I just volunteered to carry their giant heels back and they bought flipflops somewhere, got lost coming back and woke up to find they had ordered room service and their whole room stunnk of chips and garlic bread. Not so good after a night out. I provided paracetamol to all suffering next day. I couldn't sleep hardly at all as I was sharing with someone I didn't know well, so was worried I would snore. I also didn't know they still like to sleep naked even if they don't know the person well. Where do you look? I choose the ceiling and had crazy neck ache ha ha. We bought bridey lots of pressies like bride pjs and a silk bride dressing gown and undies and all the usuals. Willy straws and all the usual things that cause hilarity. One of our tinies had insisted he opened the parcels beforehand and guess which he opened. Yes the funny shaped pens lol. Well better buzz off. Carole you are very welcome and I am happy if I helped in any small way. I have now been sent a text from the gp saying I must have a blood test. What is that about? I thought I resigned my position as pin cushion grrrrr. Haven't bothered to ring to find out more. Also offered me a health test and i don't want that either. Getting rebellious in my old age. Take care all. Lisa hope the ceiling is back soon. I still can't work out which room it is?? Nicky how are you finding the tablets? Hope side effects not too annoying. Love Lily xxx
Hi all, Nicky hope you are well x carole that is awful, I had a skin sparing one and hadn't heard of a tissue one but that is awful but listen to doctor Lily xxx lily must spill beans on your weekend please.
sorry not been around much work is going from bad to worse and awful atmosphere and come home every night to decoratings I'm currently sitting on a curtain with fee on floor board is totally white room but wifi back on but no tv. Lots of paint in. Olous to go on and everything else before sofa comes next week.
catch up tomorrow xxx
Hi to all
Just want to say a big thank you to Lily, you always know exactly what to say and when to say it. I'm feeling less angry now, my mammogram and ultrasound has been booked for end of December, still a while to wait but if there are any cancellations they will fit me in. After 5 years another few weeks won't matter. What a very horrible experience for you and your Dad in a Spanish hospital, I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I am looking forward to hearing about your weekend, and really thank you for thinking of me when you had so much to think of yourself. Enjoy your sleep!
YD went back to Lyon today and at Christmas we will only see her for a week as she is off to Prague for her birthday week. I seem to recall we all have family birthdays around Christmas and in January, when I will be having a "big" one. Nothing planned for that at the moment but maybe we might visit somewhere exotic later in the year.
I had my ECG results today, it says I do have "a very variable" heart rhythm, and I should continue with the beta blockers I'm on for now.
Has anyone been watching Louis Theroux? I find his documentaries fascinating.
I hope you all had a great weekend, and have survived all the fireworks without too much of a bang lol
Take care all love Carole xxx
Hi just a quick reply to Carole mainly. You know the rules, you can moan as much as you like on here. You just have to know you are never in this alone and will always have friends who understand, ready to listen and support you. You do have to stay a bit calm because not having a mammo for 5 years is an appalling mistake to make but that doesn't make you any more at risk than if you had them. That ones down to fate/luck and everything else that is a factor like genes. I read that recent report about the number of new genes they have found, with trepidation but I don't think much will happen quickly from it. Maybe it will help future generations.I think the new data has come from the huge Cambridge research project that I signed up for. Its was in the daily mail I believe, someone cut the report out to show me. Hmmmm thanks. My mammo is int he next 2 weeks and I am equally jittery about mine. So if I tell you to calm down and not think the worst, you can say the same to me. Then we can both be sensible. It sound slike your daughter's furue career plan will be very useful for you too. What a lovely thing to do to help others. The Spanish translator said my dad died on holiday of cystic fibrosis depsite being way beyond the age anyone lives to with that horrible condition. They need good people on the job as we had to endure a 2nd inquest and 2nd post mortem because of that error.
I am going to finish now as I am actually tired for the first time since I don't know when after very little sleep this weekend. It was fantastic, tell you more another time. Chin up Carole, keep calm and carry on love Lily xx
Hello to all, once again I’m so sorry for missing a few posts; I will try to catch up now.
Lily, that will be nice if your son manages a stint on Celebrity Hunted. I haven’t watched it yet but have it recorded. Can I ask him for an autograph now just in case lol? Yes the SUTC programmes can be very sad, although some had some good stories. I will elaborate on the mammo issue later! No doubt you are busy tonight as I write with the hen do enjoy your Prosecco trial and have a glass or two for me! I love it! I hope tomorrow you do not have a headache lol. Which hotel in London, are you allowed to say? When is the wedding?
Lisa, so sorry to hear about your stress issues at work, I know how much you (used) to enjoy your job. Have you had a toy around at looking for something else? Sometimes when work becomes unenjoyable maybe it’s time to change. How is the jewellery thing going? Is your Mam ok now? Good luck with getting the new ceiling.
Blimey Nicky your T&T sounded a bit scary! It would be fantastic to see you if you are near for the wedding and you are very welcome to more than a cuppa!! YD is doing very well at Lyon University which is around 5 hours from home, she gets home for holidays but sometimes only for a few days. She is studying languages, mostly translation between French/English and English/French. She was doing Chinese for the last 3 years but has now branched into medical translating, specialising in pharmaceutical translations. She is busy looking for a work placement for a few months next year to finish her Master’s degree, so is applying to hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, private clinics and the like. It’s hard as there are plenty of students but not enough placements. Hopefully, fingers crossed because her first language is English and she is bilingual French she may stand out above some others. Thank you for asking after her. Mr P is fine; he has been home for 2 weeks and on Tuesday leaves for 2 weeks away. Time goes so quickly.
It’s fantastic news that your BC is stable, long may the hormone treatment continue to keep it that way. It’s also good news about the liver and bone stability. I bet you can’t wait for the sleepover. Isn’t it lovely when they smile, our GD is also smiling and I do miss her so much I’ve only seen it on video so far. Enjoy the fireworks.
My health news now, better sit down it’s a bit boring! Saw the Onc on Thursday. He had a go at me for gaining 5 k in weight since April. He asked if I exercised and if I had a personal trainer (does he think I am rich?). I explained that for several months I hadn’t been feeling very good, as in tired, irregular heart, palpitations, breathless, dizzy, feel like I’m going to fall over all the time and the rest, which had been put down to Thyroxine tablets and the change in composition back in March. He disagreed with this (even though 2 other doctors had told me) and then asked when I had had my last Mammo. I explained it had been 5 years ago before my last mastectomy in 2012 as he had told me each visit I didn’t need one, as I had no breast tissue. Then on Thursday he told me I should’ve had mammos every year for the last 5 years as I DID still have breast tissue in the left breast with a tissue conserving mastectomy!!! I was disgusted at his mistake, which he admitted so imagine my horror at this news. Now I am waiting for a mammo appointment.
As for the heart ECG, I am still waiting for the results so this week I will be chasing that up as every doctor I’ve seen recently tells me how irregular my heart beat is. Even the Opthalmologist told me that the reason my vision could be playing up is because my blood isn’t pumping properly!
I’m so sorry this has all been me moaning about me! Have lovely weekend’s girls and enjoy everything you do. Love Carole xxx
Hi everyone, how are you all? Caro;e have you any news from your appointment, I was waiting to hear an update from seeing the onc as well as the other tests. Hope things are progressing as we would hope. I know you are a bit tricky with a number of health issue to juggle, so a lot to think about and get checked. Lisa horrible to have job cuts and now a take over? How will that affect you and your job? Well regading the house, you never do the quick job so I am not surprised when the whole ceiling came down! I couldn't work out what room it was? Is it looking bette rnow or are you taking all the plaster off too lol.
Nicky that is a fab reason for not being able to go on the trial. I hope it made you smile, it did me. Also super fab to have a bit of time on just hormone tablets. I know they have their side effects but pretty nice compared to old public poisoning. Hope you have a good long spell on these. One met, how cool is that. They have come a long way with their liver treatments, thankfully. I have been watching the stand up to cancer programmes and love the fact that celebs put themselves out and often seem genuinely affected by the sad stories they tell us. I loved celebrity hunted, did you watch it? My son has written to go on the show but I hope they never call him as I don't think I could cope with the stress. Also watched celeb gogglebox tonight. Yes I know the logical view on mammos but I bloody hate them. My scar tissue stings like 100 bees on one spot. Heaven help her if she needs 2 goes at it. That's without the what ifs it creates in your head each time. Which tablet are you on this time? Can you back on our originals or do you always move on to another? I have lost track of any new ones released. Its party weekend this week as its ed's hen do, I am very excited and looking forward to my weekend in a big London hotel and spa. Having a bit of a crisis about what to wear though as not many oldies going. I have to share with someone who I really like but have only met a few times, so a bit of stress about that and how it might be. I wondered what to do, thought of Lisa and decided to see if the prosecco cure would resolve my worries 🙂 I hear its good. Well better buzz off and get packed. I have hidden the price label of the top I bought as it was a bit frivolous but I liked how it looked so there was no going back after that! I don't buy many expensive things as they get easily wrecked at work, chewing gum city !! See you soon. Take care and enjoy the lovely autumn colours we have around at the moment. Love Lily xx
Lisa, I hope the job situation, or should I be saying the situation at work, improves. It all sounds a bit topsy turvy for you which must be awful as you enjoyed working with your old boss for so long. Enjoying going to work is a good thing but when all of that is taken away it just becomes a chore doesnt it? Well, at least the weekend is just about here so you can have a breather - and a new ceiling!
Lily - we had quite a few trick or treaters as well and just about ran out of treats! Some of them had made a real effort not just with costumes but had had their faces painted as well, lots of very pretty witches! It was a bit worrying though when I looked out of our front door straight into the faces of two trick or treaters who were way too old for it - basically late teens I'd say. Both chaps and one with a full face gas mask on and the other with a halloween mask on, hmmmm, I wanted to get rid of them quickly! Good luck with the mammo, it's good to keep being checked generally rather than because you have had BC but unnerving as it reminds you of how things can start, apart from the fact it is bloody uncomfortable!
Carole, how are things for you, both health wise and general living? Is the weather closing in at all? We have had a few chilly nights but still fairly mild and some sunny days which makes things feel better. How is YD doing with her current course? Sorry cant quite remember where she is and what she's studying! Does she get back to visit at all or is it a different structure to her term time now? How is Mr P and his job? Hope he is back soon, or has been back recently, as it must make a huge difference to have him there. Ohhh, you've started the holiday talk off for next year - its usually Lisa! We would also like to plan a trip further afield but we will have to wait until the next scan to see if we can book something without wasting money on cancellations or changes. Also, I will update you nearer the time but we could be in your neck of the woods next year for a wedding! I'll pop in for a cuppa if we are ha ha.
So, my update. I saw oncologist yesterday and we were both saying why had I not had my referral yet. Worryingly he said the last time his secretary chased them up they said there were no trials available for me, gulp. Anyway he got his secretary to phone The M and they repeated that there were no trials and I should have had a phone call from them to tell me! She then spoke with one of the research nurses who explained. The reason there are no trials - at present - is because my BC is stable (and in fact has regressed) and there has to be progression to meet the criteria of starting a trial. At least I know now why there none at present that I can be screened for. So, for now I remain on the hormone tablet that I have already started and keep up with the 3 monthly scans. At the first sign of progression I will be referred (again!) and be able to go on a suitable trial based on what is available at the time. I am happy with the decision, it is nice to give my body a break from constant chemo and I have confidence in hormonal treatment as I have responded well in the past. My liver mets (or 'met' as it now is) are also much smaller than a year ago when all this kicked off, plus bones have remained stable for a long time now. I am sure Dr Lily will have some questions and I'm happy to answer them ;-).
Well, thats the medical update. Other updates include GS doing very well and smiling at those he knows - including his Glam-ma (ha ha). We are due his first sleepover in a week or so as his Mum and Dad are out for a late night which was planned a long time ago (a wedding reception) so I had better get a few good nights sleep in beforehand as he still wakes up in the night for a feed, although gradually going a bit longer which is good for his M and D.
Anyway, have a good weekend all, sorry if I've missed anyone's news out. Off to a fireworks party tonight and will try to oooh and ahhhh over the weekend as well when there will be plenty of fireworks around - I love them 🙂
Hi all, sorry my attendance has been shocking for one reason or another... work is dire job cuts then week after being pushed into takeover and communication is awful so not the best place to be at the moment and iTS UPSIDE DOWN, BEEN LACKING WIFI oops sox receiver caps but too tired to fix lol. Decorating sling room has now expanded to pulling down ceiling and new one going up so at mo off to bed and have been sitting with iPad facing wall with wee lamp and table then flattened my car battery, but tomorrow is a new day and will catch up tomorrow once drama at work has settled a little.
hope everyone is okay and enjoy themselves xxxxx
Hi ladies, how are you. Have you been for your referral yet Nicky? I was wondering what they were thinking of giving you next and whether you qualified for one of the newer trials? Hoping things are going well and keep me posted when you get the chance. You know I like to keep up to date with your plans and results. xx
Carole being lazy sounds perfect, especially if still warm there. Lucky you. I was swamped with trick or treaters, well over 40 and in the end took my pumpkins in so I could watch tv and before I ran out of sweets. A lot of older children this year too but amazing constumes. 2 of my grandsons were coming for dinner tonight so I was instructed to let them ring the bell and surprise us. They were so excited having been to a party beforehand and bouncing from the sweets they had been given! Will any kids sleep tonight? They were very pleased with the number of callers at my house, except they let the dogs out each time, such was their enthusiasm to see what costumes people had on. A lot of fun. Keep us posted about your test results too. I have just been called for mammos again. You get out of the habit of appointments quite quickly and then the letter sets you off again, back in time. I am on the regular call list now so they are always a bit shocked when they start to give me the talk and find I've already been the 1 in a 100 they say I would be unlucky to be! Not the best letter for all people receiving it, I think they could do better than what it says about unnecessary treatment because only one of you will really have BC. Rubbish leaflet! I also had my smear test come back saying it was dodgy but it had been tested for cancer, I didn't have it so my abnormal cells would sort themselves out most likely! Forget it for 3 years they say. Arggghhh. My heart was in my mouth reading it and then I'm left with a bad result but they don't do anything about it??? Might see the dr for a chat as it left me unsettled. Then the mamo letter popped through the door, so a bit spooked. Thank you Carole, the holiday was really lovely and I enjoyed seeing all the famous places. Its a devil of a place to park, so once we found a space we paid a fortune and didn't move it until we left. We were right in the middle of the city so just minutes from all the places we wanted to see. Yes Victor and I are undecided about where to visit next year. We never go back to the same place for quite a few years so always pleased to hear of new places to visit. Criteria is sun for me, great scenery and historic places to visit closeby. Any ideas most welcome. Lisa how are things at work now? Hope all is ok for you. Love Lily xx
Hi to all, sorry I've missed quite a bit. For no reason really other than being lazy and extremely tired. Weather here still lovely considering it's the last day of October. Are you all prepared for trickers or treaters? We have some small bags of sweets just in case but as most of the children around here are only about 5 I doubt we'll see anyone. Heidi has been doing well, as in no more fits, although we do think the medication is doping her as she seems very sleepy most of the time.
I haven't heard anything about my tests, so I suppose no news is good news. Thursday I see my Onc, which I feel may be the last time.
Did you enjoy your break in Bath Lily, I've been but many moons ago. I fancy somewhere exotic next year if we can afford it, Cuba sounds interesting but then again I would like to go back to Rome and San Marino, Mr P and I are in a disagreement as he wants to take the caravan again, and I would rather fly!
Well enjoy whatever you are up to today and I hope the weather is at least sunny for you all. Take care Love Carole xxx
Hi everyone, how are things with you? Lisa keep us posted how work is going and I hope it will not affect your job. Fingers crossed. Carole how is Heidi getting on with the medication, has she stabilised. Any news of your latest tests yet? Fingers crossed too. Nicky I can't remember the brand but we did find a hair dye that was organic and suppposed to be ok to use after chemo. Can anyone remember? Was it from a health shop like Holland and Barrett? Maybe you have better memory connections than 5FU left me with! Glad to hear ED is settling in to new mum life style well. I hope you get your letter soon for the referral. Nice to enjoy some non- medical time though. Victor and I are off for a mini break to Bath, his choice for his birthday. I really hate being married to a former frequent flyer who does not get the same enjoyment from travelling abroad as I do grrrr. So raincoats for us although I am looking forward to visiting a beautiful city too. We are in a lovely hotel and only lovely 4 poster rooms were left, what a shame to have to pay more! I have a feeling he will be taking work with him so might pack a book, although I googled the hotel and found a giant Debenhams opposite so may volunteer to shop while he does 🙂 . I still have some items to buy for the wedding and hen do. Better buzz off as babysitting the whole world this week, both littles and oldies have me running up and down most of the day. Love Lily x
Very strange got an error and said I couldn't get on then allowed me, maybe cos I've been absent for so long. Will catch up tomorrow, sorry decorating issues and redundancies announced at work so not nice time. Will catch up tomorrow and hope everyone is okay xxx
Hopefully you got the link I sent you Carole, if not I'll try to send it again or give you some info about searching online for the article, as Lily has said it's quite a long way down the list and not that obvious from a general browsing. My hair isnt like that anymore, unforunately. The photo was taken about 12-15 months ago and I had put a non permanent colour on my hair for my daughter's wedding which had been in the February. Anyway it didnt wash out completely, as it should have done, but I just kept getting blonder and blonder so was more than happy to stick with the shade, which ws lighter than when we met last, Lily. Its now predominantly dark grey and grey as I've not been able to colour it for ages and have been reluctant to do anything that would make more of it fall out! I will work out what to do with it soon but an new colour would be better.
I can't believe its half term already! I realised this on Friday when lots of kids were already off and others were in casual clothes. We live really close to the primary schools that both D's went to so I can guess the term times by looking out of my kitchen window and seeing if anyone is walking to school! Enjoy the timewith the littlies, and no so littlies.
GS is doing fine, as is ED, enjoying it all at the moment as he s a very contented chap. Putting up with all the noise from my side of the immediate family when we had a big get together yesterday - so many birthdays in one week that it was good to get everyone together and also for the ones who live further away to be able to meet GS. She (ED) has already got a few friends with babies and her ante natal class has been very friendly so they were already meeting up socially before they all had their babies. She is signing up for some of the baby classes you can go to so I'm sure will meet more friends along the way. Eventually she will have to go back to work but that's a long way off so she should enjoy it whilst she's off. Luckily, with her OH's work pattern he is off for long streches at a time so that is nice for them both, to spend time as a family. Baby and her had their 6 week checkups last week and all is good after the initial discomfort and bad infection she had, so that was good. As to being christened I'm not sure what they will do, certainly they will have some sort of dedication and naming of guardians but there is no pressure from anyone to do anything in particular.
Well, that's me up to date, waiting for my referral appt but chased it up last week and have spoken to current onc who is on the case so I'm just enjoying my time away from needles to be honest.
Hoping everyone else is doing OK and willcatch up later in the week.
Hi everyone, I feel like we haven't chatted for ages. Carole I was sorry to hear about your dog and hope that the medication works well. It might take a while to settle as does any medication. My mum's friend had a dog with epilepsy, which started after it had the rabies shot to be ab;e to travel. Its had regular fits after that but has been fine on medication once they got the dose settled. Also sorry to hear you are so tired, maybe take some multi vitamins with iron in case you are out of balance with something that you could resolve yourself. The dog being ill might have been more stressful than you imagine too, so it might be that affecting you too. Hope you both report being brighter soon. 9 weeks to Christmas and hopefully you will have more people around then to help. Lisa how is work now? Also hoping your mum is doing better now.
I found your article Nicky. Carole I googled Mail health but it was pages down before I saw the article, so keep going. Well done Nicky, it was a marvellous story which will hopefully help people know there is more they can ask for if in a similar situation themselves. I like your hair, a lighter colour than when we last met, very flattering. You wouldn't think you had all that going on, good for you. Enjoy all the birthdays and family coming in. Will GS be christened? That's always a tricky one. I think first tiem mums just find it strange to be the only adult in the house as before that you are either at work orr school, many say its lonely. Has she started going to a mother and baby group with him yet? There are loads and you quickly make friends in similar situations to take the babies out together. Lovely to be needed too. I have 3 chaps back again this weekend for a sleepover. Maybe I said yes fine a bit too quick as we have had someone every weekend for a month! I love it but I do get behind as I drop everything. We have a long half term so I have been home a few days. I am trying to get my wedding outfit sorted out as I really can't settle until I know I have something I like. So far I have the dress, jacket was a biiiig bargain reduced from £169 to £44 what a bargain. Looked carefully over it, in case there was a glaring reason that I had not spotted but couldn't find one. So I bought it. Also got a bag and my 3rd level shoes, which are flat for the end of the evening and dancing. the wedding has to be early, as there was another registrar booking on the same day so we will be up early and have a lovely long day. I am so looking forward to it but know my feet will let me down. Now I need to find some higher having your photos taken shoes and some middle I can just about walk in these ones 2nd level shoes. I had 3 levels of shoes last time and it worked well. My YD was impressed as her shoes hurt a lot so she just went into whichever shoes I had just abandoned. I was pleased with the outfit but noted it would look even better if I was looking better underneath it ha ha. Maybe I will have a go at a diet. I also got a fantastic sparkly top which I didn't dare tell Victor about. It wasn't hard as he was so impressed/shocked with my large amount of detail about the jacket. probably wishing I would stop talking about clothes which he has no interest in at all apart from saying 'very nice'. Better make a mental note to remove the label and rip into 100 pieces. We are off for a few days soon, Victor's late birthday present. Little does he know I have wedding shoes and new boots in mind as well as sight seeing. Well better buzz off as late. Loved the article Nick, well done. Love Lily xx
After a dreadful weekend with our dog Heidi, who kept having fits, she started Saturday early evening and was having continual seizures throughout the night and on Sunday. As soon as one fit was passing, she was going into another one it was very distressing to see and being as i'm home alone I coped as best I could but was very worried, and tired. On Monday off we went to the vets, thankfully her blood test was ok and didn't indicate anything that would cause seizures, so she is now on epilepsy medication. She has been fine since Monday but I think the meds are causing her to be a bit disorientated.
As for my own health, my constant fatigue is beginning to be a worry, I'm waking up exhausted and feel so tired throughout the day. I'm still waiting for my ECG results. The pains and tightness in my chest seem to occur at any time, even when I'm not doing anything strenuous. I just haven't got the energy to even take a walk.
Nicky, I searched the Daily Mail website but sadly I couldn't find your article. I looked under Health too. Perhaps if you have time could you PM me a link please? I am envious that you get to spend a lot of time with your GS. Lily too with hers! But, I now how wonderful it is to have family around you.
Lily, bathtime is lovely with little ones isn't it? Are you managing to avoid the coughs and colds that must be doing the rounds? Half term next week, are you planning anything nice?
Lisa how are you?
Take care everyone, love Carole xx
Sorry for my absence its just been a bit of a manic time. OHs birthday needed some extra time shopping as we'd only come back a few days before plus seeing GS, especially when ED needed a bit of a break takes up sooo much of my time. I love it of course but it puts you on the back foot a bit and existing plans or jobs for the day end up having to be done in the evening or fist thing the following morning which means no time for reading and writing on here.
Everything is going well with the little chap but as my SIL does shift work ED found it a bit difficult the first night shifts where she was on her own and still coping with the night feeds. Also, although being able to have 5 weeks off after the baby's birth it meant she suddenly had to do things all on her own in the day whereas most new mums have to cope pretty quickly after the birth.
Glad you have had lots of cuddle time with your new GD CArole and it woukld have been a great help when your DIL had to go into hospital. I don't know what is going on with births these days but so many mums seem to get an infection of some sort, I didn't know of anyone of our generation who had one. Hope you get to see her again soon. How did the 24hr ECG go? Did it show up any problems? I must admit I've had them done a couple of times and they didnt show up anything, this was before I had full blown AF rather than the occasional AF I started off with. (On that note just to let you know I was in the Daily Mail yesterday, Health section, regarding my heart issues - it's online and you are 'lucky' enough to see a photo of me! I didn't want to say anything beforehand as i only knew the night before it was going in and as my name is used I didn't want to flag it up in a quick post so I'm sort of hiding it in here)
Lisa, hope the cold is getting better. I had my flu jab last week and no side effects at all except the sore arm. Last time I had it I went staright down with a cold which is why I've not had it since but that must have been coincidence. Hope work has calmed down and you are planning your next hols 🙂
Lily, hope schoolwork has calmed down after the inspection, let us know what the resukt is. I have a couple of teacher friends who hated the Ofsted inspections, so much extra work, often for nothing as you said. I'm currently waiting for my next referral appt and have chased it up yesterday., Enjoying the chemo break to be honest and not worried about the time off treatments as my scan was only done 4 days after my last infusion so didnt even show the effect that last one would have had and I'm sure it will in my system for a few weeks more. Also, if you are starting a trial, you need at least 2-3 weeks off any treatment before you start it - to make sure the results are accurate.
Anyway, no other news from me except a big weekend coming up. More family birthdays and all of my immediate family visiting to see the new GS, living further away it's been difficukt to organise until now. Hectic but I'm not cooking thank goodness, the local pub can do that!
Catch you soon
Hi everyone, we seem to have all been popping in and out and missing each other, so to speak. Nick have you had an appointment referral date yet? They always seemed to be relatively speedy so hopefully you can have a good chat with the experts about what comes next. What does your local onc think you should do? Do you agree or do you have other things in mind like getting on to a trial to access a newer drug that is not available routinely? Hope your little chap is doing well and they are settling down to family life after the big shock of a first baby. Easy peasy after number one!! But the first is a shock as seems to take over everything you do. Great fun though. Carole how did it go on the monitor, did it reveal anything? Lovely to hear about your visit to your new GD too. Poor new mum, that sounded horrible and such a shame to have that so quickly after the birth but glad its sorting out now. Abscesses are notoriously hard to heal, do you remember I had one and it took 6 months after the op to finally close. I hope she does better than that. Lisa aaargh the colds have got you already, bad luck. I have had one cold but it was mild thankfully. I hear that people are being quite poorly after the flu jab this year but that it is a very nasty strain so I guess worth a milder illness to prevent it. I don't get one but take my oldies along for one. I have been so busy as we had an ofsted at work. Horrible being under pressure and after all the hard work they didn't see me, so rather a lot of paperwork to go in the bin. Oh well its part of the job but so unfair to be judged on 10 minutes of your whole career. They are the traffic wardens of schools. I have ED and little pink staying so its a fun weekend. She is good fun to have around, very chatty and likes to dance to any music that comes on. She likes us to be busy. Confident enough to run in and shout I'm here for a sleepover Nanna. They don't have a bath in their house so she thinks my bath is a pool to swim in and its very difficult to get her out, once in. Going to be a lot os swimming here this weekend., Take care all love Lily xx
Hi carole, baby sounds adorable, what's her name? Lovely that you've had lots of cuddles. Ouch re her wee issue eugh.
any news on monitor results?
not much to report here, got lurgy and awful cough and work awful lol holiday seems many moons ago, think I was reliving my youth partying and dancing till 4am lol 👍👍. Ready for another.
hope all is well xxx
I've been so busy catching up with shopping, animals, housework etc. nothing interesting happening here.
My UK visit was wonderful, new little miss is absolutely adorable. She is quite a good baby in that she sleeps a lot, DIL is managing breast feeding well although poor thing ended up in hospital for the day with an awful abscess in a very difficult place. (DIL not baby). Anyway after an operation to clean it and open it new Mum was feeling a lot better. I had lots of cuddles with baby who is so cute. I was left to babysit for just over an hour while they popped out shopping, I had to step in with standing, rocking and bum patting - do all babes love that, my 3 always did? Doesn't time fly, she will be a month old tomorrow.
Weather wise it has been nice here, very chilly mornings and evenings but yesterday was 26 degrees so quite warm during the day. Garden wise I am still picking cherry tomatoes, raspberries and blackberries our green veg got demolished by cabbage butterfly Our dahlias, marigolds and geraniums are still flowering and the crysanthemums are just budding.
At the moment I'm strapped up to the 24 hour ECG machine, however, the electrodes are not agreeing with my skin so I think I will have to take it off before the 24 hours. Hopefully they will have enough hours to work out what, if anything, is wrong.
So on that note I'd better go and do something before I lose the day completely. Love to everyone xxxx
Hi all, sorry I've been away all weekend again and loads of dramas at work but I'll catch up tomorrow when positive head on. Only had quick scroll down but amazing news Nicky 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍.
hope everyone okay xxx
Hi all, I'm back from cuddle land and will catch up tomorrow. Brilliant news Nicky yippee.
Love to all xxx
Fantastic news Nick, congrats. Its what we have all been waiting for and I hope you can enjoy some stability for quite a while so you don't have to have the worry of these big decisions so often. keep me posted and most of all just enjoy it. Can I say I told you so ha ha. So pleased for you love Lily xxx
Another, slightly longer, message from me.
Now I've cleared some of the washing mountain (luckily a lovely sunny day here yesterday so I got most of it dried), seen GS (plus ED, YD and SIL - ha ha what a coded group we are) and generally got back into the swing of things I have a bit more time to post.
Firstly I had my results yesterday and full body scan shows only one liver lesion that continues to shrink - hooray. Bones all stable and no other signs of (bad) activity. What a relief, something that had kept me away the night we got back from holiday. So the plan is to still get (yet) another referral to The M and see what they thuink, whether I stay on the current regime (a possibility) or be put forward for a trial (as long as I meet the criteria). Either way I'm a lot more possitive than when I went there earlier in the year to discuss a trial as at least things have now been responding well and I am both physically and mentally stronger. Should find out in the next week or so when I get the appointment through but current (local) onc and I are happy with the plan - and obviously with the results.
So, how is everyone else? Carole, you must be over here visiting now, or very soon. Hopoe all is going well with new little miss. Our GS is doing very well, putting on weight, very contented but still giving his Mum and Dad a few sleepless nights but what can you (they) expect after all he's not even a month old!
Lily, how's school, other than being drowned by paperwork? Any more babies on your horizon? Or have all your daughters had their families now? I lose count of the number of grandchildren you already have. And can't believe that oldest GS is 13 - wow where has time gone?
Lisa, how was Magaluf? Or is it a case of what goes on in Maguluf stays in Magaluf?? Hope it was fun and all your organising was appreciated.
Have a good weekend
A quick message to say I'm back from hols (last night) but busy busy with the pile of washing - as ever, plus all the other bits of life that have to be sorted once the hols are over. Had a great time in Northern Spain, weather iffy at times, baking hot at others - but only what we expected this time of the year.
Will catch up later.
how are you all? Its a bit quiet on here so hope you are all busy. Nick I have lost track of whether you are still away or maybe enjoying the company of your gs? Carole when do you see your new little gd? Hopefully you will get a cuddle soon. I am busy at work too Lisa. i don't know where the days go to but the pile of work seems to keep accumulating. I have the tiniest gap on my desk and the rest is a mountain of paper and things to do when I get the chance. At least the days zoom by to the next holiday. Still haven't booked anywhere yet. Its Victor's choice so it will be in the UK booo. Take care xx
Hi all, will catch up tomorrow as been busy bee, back from hols then straight to Birmingham for course so slept last two days after work, should be back in land of living tomorrow. Have a lovely holiday Nicky. Rest f us batten the hatches rain is due tomorrow xxx
Have a brilliant time Nick and I hope the weather holds so you can stay out and about for most days. Other people's families are quite difficult to understand at times aren't they? At the end of the day I think you reap what you sow. That's why Carole and I are battling through some tough times with our oldies because of what they did for us in the many previous better years. I don't know what wsa said Carole and I don't think you should even write it down so there is a record of it, just think of her not being her normal self and not meaning it. I come home and tell everyone mine is deranged when she says horrible things. My brother says - well she looks like her mum even if what's coming out of her mouth doesn't sound like her! Nick it is difficult to give advice, they almost certainly know you are right but maybe can't trust anyone else to actually help out. Or if yoiu keep asking and no-one does help, you just get on with it, it wears you down keep asking.
On a brighter note glad GS is doing well and I think you might need to have a crying baby to appreciate a contented one. I have had complete polar opposites of babies and think it is just chance but experienced mums cope with needy babies better as they don't panic. Glad she had a sleeper even if she doesn't realise it yet! I see your point about the chemo and saving it for later seems a great plan. How do you feel about faslodex? I have read a bit about it and know it works in a similar way to tamoxifen. Do you have to have it in the backside and one on each side? That's really annoying if they can't stab you somewhere else or have it in a tablet!!! I would be having nightmares about what underwear was suitable to arrive in!! I will be hoping you don't mind the idea of it as much as I would or that you can have an alternative way of delivering it. I do like the idea of being on a new trial though. Presumably it would be a stage 2 or 3 trial so pretty well tested already. Main thing is of course that it does what it is supposed to and stabilises everything for you. Forget it all and have a lovely break. Lily xx
Sorry to hear about the Mum troubles. Luckily I don't have it with my parents but OH is having to see more often as his Dad isn't getting any better which outs strain and stress on his Mum. He has to visit each weekend now, his choice, and although not too far away it does eat into his time off work. To be honest I try to keep out if it as I have my own health problems but if it were my parents I would be banging all his brothers and sisters heads together - there are 5 of them after all and sort out something more permanent. My 2 brothers know I wouldn't stand for any nonsense from them and I have no idea why OH and his younger sister seem to take on all the decision making, they are causing themselves more problems. Every time I say something about sharing the laid it sounds like I'm criticising the two of them whereas I think they are their own worst enemies, grrrrrr.
Bet you can't wait to see the new little miss, Carole, not long now. Our little chap is doing very well, as are Mum and Dad. I am helping out as much as they want me to and hoping I'm not in the way. ED is not keen on the in laws parenting skills, I won't even go into how badly our son in law was treated as a child as he's a stepson to the MIL so I think they appreciate my down to earth approach which appears to be working well. Having said that I ever had a baby that well behaved! Yes, I know they aren't 'behaving' but goodness me he's content and sleeps well, they have no idea how bad it can be for some Mums and dads, and just complain they they only got several lots of 4 hours asleep at night, I should have been so lucky!
As to treatment and scan results I hope I do actually change from this chemo, as it is a chemo, and it does have its long term effects which are cumulative. It also means if it hasn't stopped working I could re visit it again if needed. I should (and I say this with a bit of previous knowledge as its ended up not happening in the past) go onto hormonal treatment but as it will be faslodex I will have to go to The Marsden as faslodex is not funded by the NHS. You have to have it under trial conditions either with additional, newer, inhibitor drugs or possibly increased dosages, all of which are being carried out under trial conditions. I'm sure it won't be easy either way but it has been flagged up through various blood tests already carried out on me that I would benefit and respond quite well to it. We will wait and se, as ever.
Anyway off for our Hols tomorrow, YD will be here so no worries about leaving the house. Looking forward to some R and R, weather looking a bit of a mixed bag, hot to begin with but a few showers forecast for the end of the Hols, however this can change so I will pack accordingly.
Catch you all soon.
