The port needs flushing as blood clots can form if it doesn’t have the blood thinning drug injected (ie the ‘flush’) and if one of those gets in your blood stream we all know what can happen. The ‘flush’ is actually heparin, an anti coagulant in a very small quantity, not the same amount as I had to inject myself with when I had actually had a TIA. I would also get the port removed given the chance but as it’s likely to be used again at some point I will probably have to keep it in. The fulvestrant injection has to be given very slowly, in fact the nurse giving it to me there’s not much chance of giving it quickly as it’s very viscous so there's a lot of pressure needed on the syringe to get it injected! Not too sore but I knew about it! I am waiting for an appointment with the liver specialist but last weeks weather has probably put their work load back as their weekly meeting I think was on a Thursday which was a day when not many hospital staff got in. The MRI was of the liver so they have all the info they need, other than pre med checks etc so I shouldn’t need to wait for any other scans. I’d expect the procedure would be ultra sound guided anyway so it wouldn’t quite be a stab in the dark 😉🔪
YD managed to travel to and from work OK and the restaurant were very aware of the travel issues so everyone went in late, after assessing the conditions, and came home early. In fact they closed for 2 nights, after all there weren’t many customers wanting to travel for a meal out in those conditions either. She had almost a normal working week, ha ha and was nice to see her each evening for a change.
No holiday plans for us until I know whether I’m having surgery or not, and the recovery period that it will entail, however we are planning to do something in the next couple of months, just not sure when and where. We are going away for the night near my birthday to Bath, just OH and me, so that will be nice. It’s to a boutique hotel and we have stayed in some of the same small group before so we know what to expect in terms of rooms, service etc so we’re looking forward to it. The fact they had a very good deal on sealed the deal!
Hi to Lisa and Carole, hope all is well
Hi everyone. Lisa it sounds like your job might actually turn into something new if it is a takeover. If it becomes a bigger company maybe it will open more opportunities. Apay rise, even if modest is a big indicator that they want to keep you. Why not hang around and see what happens. There will be new people to work with as well so quite a few changes to make it more interesting? I can't believe you slept through an earthquake!! Must have been small or you snore a lot ha ha. Carole please post a picture of you pup. I love puppies. Hard work though, how are you getting on?
Nicky how long does it take for the discomfort from the injection to go? When YD had an ectopic pregnancy she had to have chemo in her backside. Not sure why there. Lucky pants are a must each time!! In the end my port was taken out because of it needing flushing regularly. I still have a hole/dent in my chest where it was. Not sure why it neve filled up again. Is it risky to your heart then or do yuo mean the infection risk? Are you waiting for an appointment with the liver consultant or do you need to have other things done before this can begin? I imagine there will be a lot of scans and things to be sure of its exact position but hopefully your recent scajns will be a large part of this already. Did your daughter get home in the snow as there were a lot of road problems in your area after you said she insisted on going to work. Such a worry.
Anyway on a cheery note has anyone got holiday plans ahead? Lisa you are the best one at getting organised and it is such a boost to have something to look forward to. I am away later this month but at least 4 birthdays and Eater coming up so a busy time. i bought 17 easter eggs and boy are they difficult to get in bags and home without squashing any. Love Lily xx
Hi Lily, it has to be given in the butt as it is a very viscous liquid and I imagine needs to go into the largest muscle as it’s a sub cutaneous one ie not into a vein. Good job I had my pretty knickers on 😉👙You’re right about the port as well. In fact everyone, including me, had forgotten about it when I finished chemo last year and I suddenly woke up one night remembering that it hadn’t been flushed for at least a month! Panic stations - I didn’t need anotherTIA! So I have been getting it done when I have my bone strengthening injection which has been every 6 weeks, but will now get all of it done (injections and flush) when I go in four weekly. They are pretty good at my hospital and I get the next appointment sorted each time I’m there for treatment.
Lisa, good to hear from you and glad you are safe and sound. We have quite a lot of snow here with more forecast later today. Our roads have been grittedover the past week as the temperatures have been so low so we can get out and about. In our last house though, as it was down a country lane which never got gritted, we were pretty much stranded until it thawed. Glad we are where we are now! Very envious of your trip, as ever, how lovely to look forward to the sun, and the shopping😉, especially after all this rubbish weather.
Take care all, keep warm, have a good weekend and watch out for the icy patches.
Ghiball, I'm back, huge grovelling apologies, work has been bonkers so not had time for anything 😪. So nicky, that sounds like great news and a great team at your hospital. Whilst daunting operation sounds good to get that lesion out and have a look at it. Oh in the bum ouch. How is the treatment though? Any side effects yet?
carole, just seen pup on Facebook, how adorable xxxx hope you had fun in UK?!
lily, snowed in, has its plus and down sides eh....
not much to report here, didn't get that job which was expected lol. Ain't looked for anything else yet, my assistants leaving too boo hoo. We are becoming a subsidiary of another housing association much bigger and national in a couple months and all things go and with doing governance I've got a huge amount of involvement, it's blowing my mind at the minute lol, but tiny pay rise too.
worked at home due to weather but had to braved it today so headed to Carlisle for meeting on train, cold, brrhhh... ps. I slept through the mini earthquake, it was in our town too lol.
28 days and counting till 2 weeks in Florida and 3 nights in New York 😍😍😍😍.
Hi Nick, thank yuo for the big update. I am so pleased that you got what you were hoping for. Surgery is something we have talked about a number of times and I agree it would be a good opportunity if you meet all the surgeon's requirements. It also gives them the chance to get it out to analyse and possib;y gain a lot more information. It occurs to me that it they also were able to get anything else there it might shed light on whether the persistent one is in fact different strain from the more responsive ones. I absolutely hate the idea of injections in the bum, well done for being brave. What is the reason for this site? Mind you, I am sure the arms will be cheering to be given a break from needles and your port too. Have you had your port flushed through recently as I think it needs it regularly if not in use? Amazing that you had built yourself up for the 'I am not going to take no for an answer conversaiton' and then got it straight away. Ha ha I bet your face was a picture beaming. I am snowed in again hooray. Lily xx
Was going to give an update as I’ve eventually had my oncology appointment, better late than never - although maybe that’s not the right approach in this case 😉
So, all armed with questions, challenges and OH I went on Tuesday, ready to fight our case of getting fulvestrant on the NHS or funded by the hospital and not having to pay for it ourselves. It is the recommendation from The Marsden. Anyway we get into the consulting room and smiling onc says, guess what, our local trust has chosen to fund it (not just for me btw, in general) so blow me down! Then she says, oh and you can most likely have surgery, (again, wow, didn’t expect such a positive outcome for the meeting). And not only was fulvestrant being funded they actually had some in the pharmacy fridge and I got it about an hour late. Have never known such speed. I am pursuing the surgery option but this won’t stop the continuing hormone treatment, unlike if I was on chemo when you have to stop all treatment for immunity/infection risks. We have a world class liver cancer surgeon at our hospital which, if he says yes to the op, will mean I’m in the best hands possible. So, there’s been a lot of waiting around, I also know this treatment may not work, none of them are guaranteed, but if I can also have the op it will rid me of the biggest lesion and what I see as the most stubborn part of my cancer. Will update once I know more but I am happy with the plan as it is what I had wanted but hadn’t expected to get. The reason for not posting anything sooner is that fulvestrant is not funded by the NHS ie not NICE approved so I knew it was unlikely I would get it unless it was in a research hospital or in a trial, neither of which were options for me plus I wasn’t sure what the MRIwould show up in my liver and whether they would consider removal, it it seems they probably will. So, other than a sore bum (fulvestrant is given by injection into each buttock!) I’m OK.
So, onto your news. Great you’re getting a puppy Carole, sounds like you needed time and have come to the right decision for you. You will be kept busy as well which will be lovely and hopefully able to get out and about with training once this awful weather clears (rain or snow it’s affecting us all I think). I expect you are in the UK at the moment, if I recall visiting GD, annoying if you’re caught in this bad weatherhowever a nice place to be if it’s seeing the little miss.
Lily, a day off, that sounds good and wise! It’s snowed heavily overnight with more to come as we now welcome the Beast from the East - as well as Storm Emma from Portugalwhich will produce snow once it hits the Beast! OH not travelling today as his work is towards the part of the county where the two weather fronts are expected to meet later in the day although YD has decided to go in. We have advised her not to but she thought she needed to, hmmmmmmm, no one ‘needs’ to however she has taken extra everythings with her including boots, another coat and a complete wardrobe change in case she has to stay overnight somewhere.
Lisa, how are you doing, weather/job/social-wise? Not heard from you in a while. Would be good to have an update from you and see how you are.
Better dash, need to sort a few things out including clearing the drive 🌨☃️❄️
Hi, are you all as chilly as me? We have been snowed in so an extra day off for me. It was over 4 inches so just couldn't get out our road. Dreading tomorrow when I have to get to work unless the skies open tonight and pour some more over our house. Its very strage as there are huge diifferences between quite short distances across the county. people at work had a lot of snow and we had none at all and they were only 20 minutes away. Now they have a double drop and we have quite a lot too. Lisa I can see Cumbria is tricky and also 2 earthquakes??? How are you getting on? Nicky I did think you might escape too much snow but its so random. How are things your way? Also have you been to find out more yet? Thinking of you as you get settled into whatever the new plan is. I hope its what you want it to be, as I know you have enough current knowledge to keep up with the docs to a good level. Carole did the snow reach France? You myst be about to have your new puppy, what a lovely thing to loook forward to. I am looking forward to hearing about how naughty it is and how many of your slippers it eats!!! Get your carpet shampoo ready for little accidents. Lily xx
Hi everyone, well Carole will be in 7th heaven googling over the new babies and other little people by now. have a lovely week and store up all those memories for when you get home. Well I didn't apply for the job, partly for good reasons like a lot of stress moving as so much to learn, you don't know friend from foe and who will help you, they currently look after me with regards to lifting, other stuff that reduces my physical load every day. Bad reasons were that I was not confident enough I guess and better the devil you know. Will maybe regret it but at least i know what I am dealing with still. Thought I might be a bit too old too. How did yours go Lisa, any feedback from the first one? I know you were unsure. Good for you, for going for it. Carole the puppy sounds too cute for words as I know exactly what it will look like. Get insurance asap as I know chocolate labs can be very accident prone, especially about chewing and swallowing things. One lives next door to us and the stories of him leaping for balls and then getting them stuck!! Not just once. However he is 13 and the best possible temperament and they are such faithful and loving companions to have, perfect. Is it male or female and do you have a name yet? I want Lisa to get one too please.
Nicky well sorry but you know I will worry so no point trying not to, we have all been together too long to not carry the worry that a bc dx brings. Anyway I will do the worrying for you, so have a rest for a bit if you can. Keep me posted when you can tell me what you get next. Glad you got to see a boffin so worth the treck to go up there. How's your dear little chap? Any teeth yet? Yes half term was lovely but went in a flash. it felt like a cafe at time but I don't care as I love them all round and the house full of little people and noise. I sometimes think about retiring and when the alarm goes off at 6.10 it seems a reall good idea. But do you need to go to work to enjoy the holidays as much as I do? Plus can I chance not having a salary at this stage as my pension is tiny, having stayed home for years with my family. Plus I would be available every minute for my mum and she is getting demanding but has no expectation when I am at work. Hmmm double edged sword. Better keep going then. We will visit Portugal as soon as the school holidays start so late July. Tesco are selling Portugese custard tarts!!!! I can't decide whether to try one or wait for the real authentic flavour while there. Victor will love them. Well better buzz off as been a long day and still work to do before I can go to bed. Hugs. Lily xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
A quick post from me as I am off to UK tomorrow for lots of baby and grandchildren and children hugs for a week, so if I am quiet don't worry. So excited as little GD is now 5 months old and pretty verbal. I hope to squeeze in a brief visit to Mum too.
Lily you were exactly right, we do not want to be without a dog,....... so on 1 March we are collecting an 8 week old chocolate labrador😁. I am ready to have a new pups and so looking forward to getting him. It will be hard work to begin with, but maybe that is what I need. We will try to cage train at first as I don't want our things chewed, but I know it comes with the territory.
Anyway, Nicky good luck with your appointments, Lisa any news about the new job and the same Lily, have you done anything?
Love to all, xxxx 😀😀😀😀
Hi Lily - don't worry, I'm OK, just not been on here much last week as not much to report. I'm still keeping quiet about the 'possibles' as I get fed up explaining one thing when in the end another thing ie treatment happens. I had a second opinion (again!) last week and will be having the recommended treatment discussed with my own onc next week, so no news at the moment. It was reassuring though to speak to one of the top chaps at The Marsden (again!) so we will see. It obviously sounds like it takes ages to sort out - which it does - but this seems to be the case with many secondary ladies, with primary it all is fairly stright forward with only so many treatments used and therefore quicker decisions are made. I am still enjoying the time away from hospitals and blood tests etc but even on a 'good' week like last week I had two days where I had appointments, but luckily no blood suckers.
Hope you enjoyed half term even if the weather wasnt so great. Back to the grindstone now but the lighter mornings and evenings must make a difference.
How is the job situation ladies - Lily and Lisa? Any decisions been made either from an interview or deciding if to put yourself forward for a job? Hoping you have got to the next stage Lisa.
Carole, how are you doing? Have you booked to come over to visit soon? I'm sure you would love to but it must be difficult to work out when is best and to deal with the long journey time.
Anyway, will update once I know for certtain, oh, and Lily, let me know when you are going to Lisbon as I think some trips might be better at different times of the year depending on how hot it is.
Hi, we nearly dropped off page one, I hadn't realised it had been soooo long. How are you all? Any news yet Nicky? I hate it when you go quiet xxx
Hi buddies, how are you all this week? Carole the glasses sound a good bargain, well done. Hope they are making everything much clearer for you. You are such an animal lover with the cats and I really think you need another dog in your life before too long.I find that I can't settle without one in the house, having lived all my childhood with at least 4 dogs at a time. I prefer one or maybe two but they make me feel safer. We have cat allergies in the family so never managed to get into cats apart from visiting friends with them, gingers are my favourites. I hope you get a trip sorted out soon to see the family. Thank you for the encouragement with the job and I need it because I haven't done anything about it yet. I am on better the devil you know at the moment. This will probably change every day! You too Lisa and thanks all for the info on providing health details, they seem to have improved these things over the years.Hav eyou heard anything about your interview Lisa? I was impressed that you actually enjoyed their exercise and so I feel that part will have gone really well and be a positive. I think you should start thinking about what went wrong and why as you may still be called back despite what you think. Even if not this job there willl be other interviews. Work on your confidence because you have relevant experience and the rest of the day went well so you have the skills and really can move on to bigger things, believe in yourself, we all think you can.
Nicky I would love to hear more about Lisbon. I know the tram stops close to our hotel, which was one of the reasons I picked it and the huge sunroof so I can still soak up a few rays even on a city holiday. I gather the beaches are fairly close too if we want.I have seen a tour of lots of palaces so will try to find out if Sintra is on there.Sounds like our sort of excursion. We walk a lot every day on holiday so sounds just right for us. Victor has to pull me up hills. The first page of the application asks for my date of birth so there will be no hiding of ages for me! That is one part that makes me hesitant as I am at the top of the salaries and therefore expensive and old. Maybe I should re-label that as vast experience ha ha. Yes it is that aspect of being expected to arrive bouncing around and making an impression that concerns me. I work really hard but I have good backup currently and might not have any if I move, no way to find out how it would be. Hmmm need to keep thinking. Unbelievable that the docs have got no further with your mil's dx, how can that be? I am enjoying the week off although so far I have had large numbers of extras for every meal so today was my first relaxing day. Wishing you lots of luck as always plus a good plan of action as you meet up with the onc to discuss what comes next. Also hoping that the extra scans can be more helpful in decision making about the annoyingly persistent little s... that is still lurking. Maybe rads or surgery might be on the table? Keep me posted and fingers crossed as always. Love Lily xxx
Nicky your break sounds lovely, I've looked at Lisbon as few times as looks fab. Glad you had a nice break. Back to it,,, when do you get a date for MRI??
Carole, glasses sound fab and good on you for the gym, I need to get myself into some exercise or diet.
lily, I've worried about the BC bit especially when they ask for references which includes sickness absence but from what I can understand they usually only ask for last 3 years....
well, I messed up my interview, I'm still cringing. It turned out wanting more of someone to transform the Admin team which makes it more exciting but they aren't clear on exactly what they want as it's a brand new post. I had prepped so much too. The presentation from them was good and then we had 2 hrs to do an exercise which was about some general questions and then how you would approach the first 3 months of the job... I really enjoyed all this, then we had lunch and met one of the managers who done the interviews last week. She said they were very staged and false so it treat it more like an informal chat at this stage, then the first girl came out and said she was in 40mins and waffle duchess and they looked bored, so by time I went in I was on the informal approach and no rambling.... but I ended up only being in 15mins and totally waffled and didn't sell myself at all so I nearly ran out. Was sooo bad so I'm very confident that I won't get a stage 2 interview....
anyhow drowned my my sorrows in Liverpool singing along to kenny and dolly tribute and took my Mam and dad to the cavern 😍.
night all xx lily enjoy your week off
We got back late on Weds eve and a couple of busy days followed so I’m only just catching up now. Of course the washing mountain and also seeing little GS - who is far more of a priority than the stupid washing 😊
We had a great time, just managed to get some of the decent weather that they have, although we had read that this time of the year can be unpredictable it was actually very bright and sunny every day, and warm enough to sit out in a sunny spot without our coats on. It was chilly in the mornings and at night, which we knew about so went well prepared with suitable layers and coats/jackets. I can thoroughly recommend Lisbon Lily, if you send me your email again (by PM) I can give some more detail rather than bore everyone else on here, although if the others want to know I can put it on here as well. It is a lovely city, quite hilly but various trams and funiculars make that a bit easier. Some beautiful old sights to see but without it being so jammed packed with them, like London or Paris, that you have to dash from one to the other to make sure you’ve seen them. We had a day trip out, by train, to Sintra which has these most amazing palaces and castles in the hillside where the royals and rich people had their holiday ‘homes’, quite spectacular but even more hilly! Lots of chilling out and lots of walking but we had a great time, just what we needed having both been away separately in January and me knowing that appointment/s loom next week.
Have caught up briefly with your news and glad to hear all seems to be well with everyone. As to job applications and interviews I understand now that you can’t even be asked your age/DOB any more let alone any disability or health issue. Of course they can work out your age roughly from your cv but you can’t be discriminated about regarding health or disability. So you wouldn’t need to mention anything about BC Lily, and they can’t ask, so go for it if you think it’s the right thing - and it sounds like it is! I know I could in theory get a job and not let anyone know about my SBC but that would be totally unfair on the company seeing as I have so many hospital appointments and SEs from any treatment I’m on. And however much a company wouldn’t be able to discriminate against me I know who would get the job if it was between me and a perfectly healthy person with the same attributes, qualifications etc!
Enjoy the weekend, we have a catch up weekend, visiting OHs parents who are not in the greatest of health and unbelievably no real cause has been established for his Mums continuing health problems despite scans, blood tests, physio etc. His Dad continues on the slow dementia path which will not get any better and is probably a big contributing factor to his Mums problems. I generally keep out of the decision (or non decision) making process as they are a big enough family to sort it amongst themselves without in laws getting involved! Plus my main focus is always about my health and, as I warn them, my parents 😉
Wow Lily, yes I think you should go for it, and when you do you can explain the reasons to your boss exactly as you have explained it to us..... more responsibility, more money and less hours and travel. It's a no brainer! Unless the application asks if you have had any medical issues then why tell them. It was 10 years ago and you are fit and healthy now. Obviously if you go for a medical then it might crop up so that is the time to be honest.
I do admire you girls changing jobs after such a long time. I don't know where I would begin if I was looking to find a job.
Yes I have my new glasses Lily and they are great! Quite reasonable too for France. Normally a new pair of glasses can run into the hundreds of euros, mine are bright pink and purple and only cost 60! Yes I am keeping up with the gym, it is hard work as she gets me doing a lot of exercise for the legs but it goes to show how weak my legs are. I saw on TV that as you get older you lose muscle and it is important to build the muscles up whilst you still can. I also had lost a few grams (wish it were kilos).
Anyway it's a very cold day here and snow is forecast, but I would rather that than the awful rain that we've had for months. I might have a trip back to see the kiddies for a week this month, just need to organise everything with 4 cats. One of whom I think is heading for either diabetes, kidney disease or thyroid disease (like his brother, they are both 15 this year). The younger 2 are ok, but I have to make sure they are separated from each other because the youngest one picks and bullies the grey one.
Take care, love Carole xxx
Hi girls, how are you getting on in this horrible cold weather? Not much sign of snow here yet but the grotters have been out just in case. Hope they are wrong. I had to be outside on duty yeterday and it was so cold. The worse thing is the runny nose as soon as you get indoors and tingly feet as they come round. I was wondering if you had been for your interview yet Lisa. I hope things go well for you and it is a good even though nerve wracking experience. It willl be sad to see all your friend go, that must be fairly soon?
Nicky I am busting to hear about Lisbon and your trip. I have no idea what the temperature would be there in Feb as they advertise all year sun? Hope you had a lovely time and then back to business grrr but some lovely memories. Keep me posted how the next scans and appointments go.
Carole have you got your new glasses yet? Hope everything is becoming clearer now. Are you stilll going to the gym regularly? I admire people who stick at it. I have so much lovely chocolate to eat from Christmas and even more from my birthday that I have the best excuse not to start. Maybe never ha ha.
Funnily enough I have been considering a job change too after seeing something with more responsibility and more money and amuch better journey and shorter hours. Just not sure if I might be a bit old and set in my ways. I am ponbdering it and rang for details so might see what they look like when I read them. Victor heard pay rise and home earlier and said YES. Anyway will let you know if I take the plunge. trouble is I have to tell my current boss when I send an application in, its etiquette and you have to do it, so the cats out the bag as soon as I do. Do you think I would have to mention bc or have a medical? Anyway will buzz off and watch hunted. I love the programme, anyone else watching? Love Lily xxx
Hi girls, how are you today? Lisa I am afraid I won't stay up that late but would have been great, so thank you for thinking of me. Its a mad week at work and the marking is makin me sleepy already - makes a nice change. Sorry to hear about your friends going Lisa but this should spur you on to new pastures yourself and I am sure you will still meet up socially. What are you going to wear to the interview? I have seen an interexting job myself hmmm, you have me thinking too.
Carole I couldn't see the moon last night so rather annoyed to see an amazing picture of it on the news as seen in London. I am not far away and couldn't see it. However I drove to work this morning and it was infront of me most of the way. So in the end I did see it. Do you have an interest int he moon and stars or just the special events? I think I would do more if not so darn busy at work! Hope the new specs help. Get planning some visits I can detect grandchildren withdrawal symptoms.
Nicky I thought it might be a more detailed test and I find it frustrating that they know so much but cannot see smaller things within the body despite all the new technology. Hopefully in time they will improve. Well I am sorry you have a wait for the tube but you can fit in a holiday so this is an excellent time instead. Bakeries hmmm how well you know me and they are Victor's favourites too, so he will be keen as well. Have a lovely time in Lisbon and forget it all while you are away as that is as good medicine as anything an onc can provide. Enjoy having your little chap to yourself too. What a perfect week or so 🙂 This is my signing out and waking up a bit older still. we got this far buddies, must all be as tough as old boots ha ha. Lots of love Lily xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Lisa, I wished you happy birthday on FB, glad your celebrating didn't leave a sore head and I am sending across the vibes good luck for the next stage of your interview. Are all interviews like this these days? In my day it was just a chat and you either got the job or you didn't.
Lily, did you manage to see the super blue blood moon last night? Our weather was awful so no chance of seeing it here.
Nicky, I am very jealous of two things, babysitting your delightful GS and a trip to Lisbon . However I do hope you have a great time and manage to have a nice break. Sounds sensible not to worry until you know what to worry about, I wish I could adopt that attitude at times. Anyway, enjoy.
Today our weather is better, a bit of sun amidst the clouds. It has been awful, grey and damp and rainy every day. In fact for January we only had 2 days of sunshine. It has been the worst January I can remember since living here (10 years). I haven't been able to go out for a walk, well a bit of an excuse really as I have wet weather gear, but with no doggie to exercise there hasn't been the need. My 1/2 an hour of gym is good, I can certainly feel it with muscle aches. It's surprising how just a few abdo excercises, simply pulling the area in whilst breathing seems to tighten up the tummy. As I suspected my short sight has worsened and so I do need different prescription glasses. Apart from that everything is ok.
Our GD (whom I only see in photos and videos) is very chatty and gurgly, she is lifting her head up really well and supporting herself on her arms. Somehow she manages to move about a bit, but not crawling yet which isn't surprising as she is only almost 5 months. I hope to get a visit to them soon, but not sure when yet.
Better get a shower now, before the usual tidying up. Love to all Carole xx
Glad you didn’t have a headache Lisa - so it was worth celebrating as much as you did! What a shame all the people you’ve worked with and are friends with have now moved on - it just goes to show that when new ideas and management come in they lose the talent they already have. Fingers doubly crossed that you storm through your interview and get to move on and find a new job where you can settle in and find the same type of people. Keep us up to date and let us know any worries you have, we can hold your hand, as always with all of us.
Lily, HB for Friday 🎈🎉🎂Are you celebrating over the weekend as it’s a work day? Let us know what you do, I’m sure it will involve littlies 😊 Will let you know of any places we find in Lisbon that are worth going to either food and drink related or just worth the visit. I know somewhere you will devotedly want to go and that’s to one of the bakeries that do the wonderful pastel de nata - the custard tarts. YD and Ienjoyed a few on our trip to Porto the other year so I will make it my aim to do as much research into finding the best ones just for you 😂😂
Carole, now are you? Are you getting out a bit or is your weather still a bit rubbish? We have had a mixed bag here and I’m not getting out quite as much as I should, it at least I know I’ll be walking next week every day so I’m not being to harsh on myself. Hoping the eyesight improves as well but knowing nothing about the operation and recovery period I can’t offer any advice.
Anyway, I thought I had mentioned that I needed a further scan but obviously didn’t. It’s an MRI of my liver to see in finer detail what is going on as the CT can only pick up so much. This I’ve had to wait for which is annoying to say the least and even then I have to wait until it is reported on to know what the treatment options are - hence the grabbing of a quick holiday before any new plans start. So I have learnt over the years to not worry (too much!) until I know the results, what I don’t know about I can’t worry about. We will enjoy our mini break and get back to the nitty gritty once we’re back.
Enjoy your birthday Lily, and weekends for all of you. I may not be on here in the next few days as we are baby sitting which I know doesn’t allow me time to do what I want to do!
Hi all, nicky have a fab time in Lisbon and hope the poo doesn't hit the fan xx no sore head today, shocker, but wee bit sad after my best friend at work left 4 weeks ago my assistant got offered a job today, so chuffed foe her but gutted for me and makes me want to stay less now lol.
lily stayed on till exactly 12 so could be first to say happy birthday buddy 🥂🍰🎉🎁🛍🎉.
carole hope your weather is better than here brhhh sleet 😓
Hi buddies, what a cold day it was today and I even saw some people got hail. Son was out fishing in it and sent pictures, never could understand the novelty when it is so cold, although the scenery looked lovely. Carole how are the gym sessions going? My bingo wings could do with a bit of that ha ha.
Lisa well many congrats on your birthday for yesterday and your anniversary 🙂 it sounds like you had a lovely day and a lovely big headache to follow, not so good. Yes me too, my birthday on Friday, son was today and also my 10th anniversary later this month. My anniversary only arrives once every 4 years as it was leap year day so I don't see that date very often. I haven't really told many people, apart from you lovely girls now, but might tell the family on my birthday meet up. Not sure. I like Cath Kitson patterns too, especially on bigger bags and fabrics. What did yours look like?
Nicky well it sounds like you will beat me to Lisbon and I hope you make me even more excited to go. It a good place to have a lot to see without much bother travelling from airports like some cities. Make a note of good eating places as we are half board so we can spend more of the day out and about. Our hotel is next to a big designer street they advertise a lot, if you find that area. I would definitely slot a trip in, good for you. Your lovely ltitle chap visiting too, sounds like a fun time. I really hope the s... isn't going to hit it. You mentioned a further scan, is it another type of scan for more detail or something else? You have made me frown reading that, so i hope you are just preparing yourself just in case rather than having concerns. I like to keep a beady eye on you, as you know and be up to date.
Well better get off to bed as just noticed its getting late and since my bad cold, which is still sniffy after 3 weeks grrrr I can fall asleep much easier. Hugs Lil xxxxx
Awwwww, belated Happy Birthday Lisa 🎈🎉🎂(I would also have included an emoji or two about wine and prosecco but guess you might not need reminding!) Although you must be hanging today, as my ED would say, you shouldn’t feel bad about celebrating 10 years surviving this awful disease, you’re still here - of course you should celebrate. But maybe have a quieter night tonight eh? 😉Good luck for next weeks interview, a quiet night the night before I think as it sounds like a very intense process. I’m sure you will be nervous but once you get there you should treat it like a new day at your new company and maybe they won’t feel so scary.
No real updates from me as I’m still waiting for a further scan, later this week, and then the follow up appointment/s. OH and I have made the decision to go away for a few days before the 💩hits the fan! We had wanted to anyway but his work trip got in the way, which is why YD and I grabbed the chance to go to Iceland. So we are off for a few days to Lisbon - will tell you what it’s like Lily! A lot colder than when you will be going but it’s looking sunny and it will be nice to be out and about in somewhere a bit warmer than the UK for a few days and get away from all this rubbish medical stuff I have to deal with. So, there may not be much communication from me after the end of the week but will be back on afterwards. Also we have our little GS staying over with us on Friday so I will be getting some early nights before then and getting ready for him. He’s a real chuckler now and giggles at all sorts of things - getting himself very excited in the process.
Have a good week
Hi all, well few vinos on board tonight so apologies for any mushiness lol.
45 today and marks 10 year anniversary of that drafted lump, day I never thought ide see and touch wood things okay. Had lovely day and soooo spoilt rooted, lots of money for my USA hols, prosecco, wine, Cath kitson bag, echo dot... need to play with this, light up book lamp, glitter lava lamp, candles, pjs, make up, wine, chocs.... very lucky 😍😍😍😍. Head might hurt tomoz, shared a bottle wine with Mam and brother then me and Mam finished a bottle of prosecco and then more wine and prosecco.... damn diet....
lily, yours must be coming up and is your sons around now too???
well carol, my dad needed glasses after his op so you may just need different ops, but change of font is always good.
nicky hope your chilling or researching and having a rest in your week off treatment xx
Trying not to get hunk of interview until tomorrow when it's a week away as I am awful at them, plus my assistant finds out if got a job tomorrow elsewhere so will be chuffed and teary regardless. Oh god, I can't remember if I told you about the interview... so I was thinking hour maybe... oh no. They give a presentation to me and other candidates at8.45am, then a 2 hour exercise but no details, then lunchnwithbstaff, then interview, then if get passed this stage a second day of more in depth interviews.... eeekkkk...
rightnoff to slurp wine and have a late start for work tomorrow 😘😘😘😘😘😘. Love you all
Hi everyone, hope you had a nice weekend. Lisa is the interview coming up soon? Good luck and let us know how it goes. Believe in yourself and your skills will shine through. Carole that is a big font, you are always trying things out, so creative. I am so disappointed that your sight is worse since the op. Why is that? Is it because the catarct covered the blurred vision and now you don't ignore it thinking there is a reason for the lack of sharpness in your vision? Let us know how your check up goes. My mum says its a blue moon and if a clear sky we should see a full moon tonight and another one this month, which is unusual. Lucky you for being able to see them. I love the starry skies you see abroad. Oh boo disappointing about the clothes but something we all empathise with. It doesn't really matter unless it worries you x.
Nicky have you sorted yourself out following the trip. Also good luck with your appointment and the new plan going forward. I will be interested to hear about it and what their thoughts are and most importantly your thoughts. i think yuo could easily hold your own a bc debate with oncs these days. Hope it is positive and gives you a positive lift as you to start the next plan they have for you love Lily xx
I'm playing around with the font again as you can see lol. In fact my short sighted vision has become even worse since the cataract op, I'm having a check up on Monday so think I will need to ask. I cannot see anything now close up, whereas before I could.
Lisa, good luck with the interview when it comes and well done you for getting to the interview stage. You've been in your job a long time, but after all the recent upsets I think it is time to move on. Perhaps feeling down about work hasn't helped with your weight loss? Enjoy your weekend of Nashville lol.
Nicky, your description of swimming with GS takes me back to the days when I used to take my elder 2 swimming, how I managed with 2 I will never know. Later I went with YD, she also had swimming lessons but somehow never took to the water like her Brother and Sister did. We are lucky to have no light pollution here, so we often see planets, stars and satellites.
Lily, I have been to Montenegro, but in the days before the war in Yugoslavia. It was a lovely place and I would like to go back and see the changes. What did your GS pick for dinner tomorrow? Enjoy your day with your family.
Not much news from me, very quiet, did some clothes shopping yesterday and half my items have to be taken back. Too small I did start my gym sessions this week, only 1/2 an hour but boy did my muscles ache the day after. It's surprising how a few simple exercises can work the muscles.
Have a good weekend all, love Carole xx
Hi everyone, well a lot of messages to respond too 🙂 this time. Lisa well done and good luck with the interview. That shows you have the skills and experience they are looking for. to fill the vacancy/role. I know you will be scared stiff but your long time in your old job should reassure you that you should feel confident on the day. Def take Nick's advice and look up on the internet. I did for every interview and one time got the exact one they used, so had time to think of a good response. I think what do you think you can bring to this role, is a common question. So look at their job spec and write little notes about which parts you have most experience in. For any you don't, you say well that was one of the things that attracted me to the job because its something I am interested in learning, should I be fotunate to be selected. Do background work on the company so you know exactly what they do and a few bits of info you can drop into conversations. Go get em tiger xx Carole I think its grand that you got to the big 60 depite everything and Carcassone sounds dreamy. Its on my list now. I want to go to Montenegro while on holiday as it sounds so exciting on the Bond films ha ha. maybe it will burst my bubble when I go there. I am seldom quiet, are you sure? Ha ha. I am pretty busy but fine.
Nicky I am quite disappointed to hear that about the Northern Lights but it still sounded like a fab trip and it would be Iceland I was most interested to see, as it sounds like stunning scenery and geographical sights. Well keep me posted on your treatment plan, as you find out more. Always glad to chat when you need to bounce ideas. Family never quite get it but then that's a good thing too as otherwise they would keep going on about it and sometimes you just want to forget the lot and just be a strong independent person who can do what the hell they like!!! I find I am much more likely to challenege something someone says than just be quiet and take it straight on the chin these days. Not sure if that is good or bad. Whose bufday is next? We had one of the little boys birthday today but I saw him yesterday to open his tower of presents. Then he has picked dinner for the weekend. Its so funny when the little ones pick what we all eat. I love it. Take care all love Lily xx
Well done Lisa getting that interview!!! It's a difficult process to get in front of someone so the fact you've been chosen is a great first step. I expect things have changed since you last went to one so check out any tips on the internet (where was that when you last needed to be interviewed ha ha) and big up your achievements. Make yourself stand out from the crowd. And if, for whatever reason, you don't get this job treat the process as a learning curve for the next interview. Good luck and we'll be right with you when you get the date etc.
Wel jel of your holiday to the sun (and possible snow - in NYC!)
Carole, Carcassonne sounds lovely and my parents, who've travelled a lot in France, have said how nice it is. A day by the Med must have been a real treat on your birthday. Sounds pretty bad weatherwise though where you live - hoping theres no real emergencies for people to deal with. We have a very small amount of localised flooding which means there's more cars going past our house at the busy times but nothing that's causing huge promblems, unlike other parts of the country. As to the Northern Lights you realise when you see them that all the glorious photos are done by super duper cameras on looooooooong exposures. They capture the whole night's sky rather than as the NL appear. In real life the NL appear as whiter colour and look sort of like a cloud that then moves, very slowly, and sometimes, very slowly, glows upwards. The photos etc capture all this movement as one image so it looks like the whole night sky is dancing. Having said that we were so pleased we saw them as, out of the 3 possible nights we could see them, ours was the only night they were visible. In fact my YD said that if you just stood back and looked at the night sky it was just as impressive as it was so beautiful seeing the stars so clearly as there was no light pollution.
Anyway, I'm enjoying a week away from all the hospital stuff this week and the first week I've had since pre-Christmas thats not been frantic. Went with ED and GS to his swimming 'lesson' yesterday which he absolutely loves. Funnily enough it's where ED did most of her swimming as it's being held at a local hotel/fitness centre that we used to be members of back in the day when I used to go to the gym. Deja vu.
Oops crashed me out.... so lots of dancing and giggles.
this weekend of to Manchester with parents and friend for a night in "Nashville", the following weekend 2 nights in Liverpool for the musical the band and the following weekend 2 nights in Liverpool for islands in the stream tribute night.....then 4 weeks to Florida and New York...
well, guess what I've gotten an interview for my first job I've applied for in 22 years. Awaiting the date and I don't know the salary yet but will be good experience, although made me quiver when she said it's an all day process... ide love to get it too 😍.
right off to bed, night xxxxx
Hi all, happy belated birthday carole but I did manage to send you a birthday wish on Facebook. Carcasscone looked lovely, I have a friend that holidays there for a short weekend and I think they have an annual big festival there too.
nicky, sorry about your bl**dy news, I know knowing you whilst worried will have done your respect he, I so admire your knowledge and challenge to get the best treatment xx holiday sounds lovely but tad chilly for me lol, oh and I'm with lily on the bus tour thing. Big hugs and hope the washing is done for now xx
lily, glad your all recovered, in time for half term? Lisbon sounds lovely I've looked at it a few times, only ever been to albuferia. I agree with the bus coach bit too lol.
well I've been a busy bee, trying to diet but gets lost at weekends and I'm heavier than ever. Friday I went for a spa Three hour night time treat with fizz from my friend and then a lovely meal in Keswick in the lakes, then up early morning for a trip to Carlisle for a work leaving do I organised as a lot of people are leaving. It
Hi ladies and thanks to all for my birthday wishes
Long absence from me, what with trips away and yes Lily, you are right it was a birthday with an 0 on the end (60!). Thankfully on the day of my birthday we had a let up in the rain, which has been pretty constant since the beginning of December, so we went to Narbonne and sat by the Mediterranean enjoying the sea air and warmth of the sun, it was delightful. We spent the late afternoon and evening in Carcassonne cite, the medieval ramparts, and had a fantastic meal in an olde world restaurant. It was a lovely day and so nice to see the sun. Since then, back to rain and grey gloom which is so depressing.
I would recommend both Narbonne and Carcassonne for a few days away. The old city of Narbonne has an amazing cathedral and the Canal de Midi runs through it and I think eventually it ends up at Bordeaux.
Nicky, it's a thumbs down for your latest results but, you are very knowledgeable and I am sure that both you and your new Onc will come up with a good plan. It sounds like there are some treatments still available to you, I hope nothing too nasty (side effect wise) and yet blasts the buggers. Your trip to Iceland sounds amazing, I am very jealous of you seeing the Northern Lights, I bet they were fantastic? Are they as good in real as they always look on TV? Standing around in the cold for so long would probably play me up so well done for doing it.
Lisa your photos of your decorated lounge look nice, I like how you've set the furniture isn't it nice when everything is spanking new? How are you, how is your diet going? I expect you will be getting excited planning your holiday for this year.
Lily you have been pretty quiet, hope you are not catching any more nasty bugs?
Some parts of the Dordogne are on flood alert, this morning I had the dentist and it was sad to see how so many fields along the way are under water. Not just a little bit either, there are plenty of "new" ponds and lakes.
That's all from me for now. Love Carole xx
To be honest from my experience last year when I was in the same position as now I'm not going to say what is going to happen (treatment-wise) until it does. The number of times I said 'this' was going to happen when it didnt and then explain why it hadn't drove me nuts - I mean to friends I see rather than on here. On here at least most ladies, especially SBC ladies, understand but friends and family, who have been lucky enough not to have BC, havent got a clue! I'll PM you if I feel I need to but know you have my back! And, don't worry, I'm exploring all avenues at the moment and making sure the MDT are doing so as well.
ps your mention of your holiday to Lisbon has reminded me that its a city I want to visit as well so we may fit in a mini break when I get a window in my treatment plan.
Hi everyone, how are you? Lisa, any more jobs on the horizon and did you hear anything about the one you mentioned? Good luck, keep looking. Carole how was your birthday? Hope you had lots of calls from family.
Nicky the trip sounded frustrating but fascinating so worth all the travel issues. I have vowed to never go in the winter from your account of long coach journeys but you had already sussed that! I bet the photos are amazing. As you say its a mixed bag on your results. have all the other liver lesions gone and just the one left? You have had such great progress but I guess that one is going to be the decider on your next treatment. What are your thoughts on what you would like them to offer? Although its daunting to start another chemo or treatment, I think that one that's grown again needs to be kicked up the backside. When you say its grown is it still quite small? Could it maybe be treated with radiotherapy or surgery if a single lesion? You mentioned a new onc as well. I hope you find a good ear to listen to you and as much support as you have had from previous ones. Are you thinking about the research trials at the Marsden or just seeking advice from them as a second opinion? You sound like you have been able to take this on board and move forward quite quickly to find an action plan but I know its not that easy and I hope it has not been a difficult time for you. Well done, you are amazing, always have been. Anyway I am here if you want to bounce any ideas off but you are far more knowlegeable than me on the latest drugs. Can I remind you that its a billion dollar industry so new drugs are always sitting in the wings waiting to come through, so you might use options up but they are replaced too with newer better ones. There is also the secret weapon, your GS who brings in the smiles, positivity and happiness, the most powerful weapon of all on your side. Keepp me posted about the appointment, always right there by your side love Lily xxx
A long time absent from me, not just because we went away for a few days but the catching up process afterwards.
A belated Big Happy Birthday from me Carole - I hope you day out was fab and you had a lovely lunch.
Lily - you must be fast approaching yours (and Lisa too)? As well as the half term which will be a welcome break from all the germs so it seems.
I did have the flu jab this year (or this 'season') but who knows if it is the right strain. Having had real flu (not just a bad cold) early last year I didn't want to risk it by not having it. A bad cold so far around Christmas but fingers crossed for nothing more serious for the rest of the winter.
Well a mixed bag with my results, still have a bloody liver lesion that is not playing ball and has increased in size - again (having shrunk on the last treatment). Back on the treadmill of working out what to do next but I have (as ever) got my game plan in place (after the initial knock back from these results) and have already put most of the questions and thoughts in place with the new oncologist. Not aiming to think much about it until my appointment next week when for the first time in ages I will drag OH along with me to back me up rather than because I need emotional support. Everything else shows as stable by the way - hence the mixed bag but the more worry is the more treatments I go through the less there are to use.
Anyway, onto more interesting items - our trip to Iceland!
YD and I went as OH was on a business trip to S America which although I'd like to go to I wasnt going to do it for just the few days he was there for, plus of course if my disease isnt stable I cant get travel insurance and I definitely wouldnt do that if travelling to the Americas.
So I winged it on and EHIC card plus general travel insurance which I know I can do in Europe.
It was snowing onthe day we were due to fly so this was annoying as we had a long delay getting there and an even longer delay once we got there waiting for our bags, which we stupidly had checked in, and eventually they didnt turn up until the following day. We were OK witht he few items we had in hand luggage but it could have been a disaster if we had booked to go on an excursion on our first day as we hadnt got suitably warm clothing. As it was we missed our first evenings meal and got to our hotel quite late. The next day we wandered around Reykjavik which, because of the snow, did look very pretty and was very cold! That night we went out on our Northern Lights tour and we were very lucky to see them. It did mean standing out in the middle of nowhere in the cold for hours but you have to do that to get away from the light pollution from the towns. A late arrival back at the hotel but we had had a good filling meal before we went so not an issue. Managed to oversleep the next morning, not surprisingly, but sorted ourselves out for our next tour of the waterfalls, geyers, national parks etc the following afternoon. The snow, which had fallen a bit more, was causing problems on the roads so it took a long time to get back (again!). The next day was our last day and we went to the Blue Lagoon en route to the airport - which had been suggested on TripAdvisor as it is quick to get from there afterwards to the airport. A lovely warm/hot experience with face masks and drinks included!
So ito sum up t was great, beautiful clear skies, fantastic photos, cold, beautiful scenery, very quiet, unusual landscape but don't go (Lily!) if you don't like coach travel as everything you should be seeing is quite a way from the cities however if you don't go out from the main city you wouldn't see anything!
Home of course to piles of washing then picking OH up from the same terminal as we had landed at 36 hours before and then do his washing - no wonder I've been busy. Plus friends visiting, and staying with, us over the weekend for a mutual friends 60th birthday which has meant no time for catching up on here. Phew, back to normal for a while at least.
Sorry if I've not caught up on any of your news and hoping you are all well.
Happy birthday for tomorrow Carole. Is it one with a zero on the end then, it sounded like a biggy from what you said. You have done incredibly well, after having so many issues in the early days and then finding you actually had a more complex type of bc than they had diagnosed. I remember it all and I for one am absolutely delighted that you and all of us are approaching later years, congratulations.Have a fab day, you deserved it. Love Lily xx
I haven't been to Portugal Lily but I've heard some places are lovely and it has almost year round sunshine. So enjoy. I can't belive you are not offered a flu jab with your job, what is the state coming to? Even Mr Ps employers have said they will cover the cost of one. It's not expensive, and might hold off some of those nasty bugs.
We're off to carcassonne tomorrow, an historical city in France I believe. Looking forward to having a nice meal out on my birthday - one I wish I wasn't having but inevitable, and I praise that I am still here 10 years on from what we all went through 😁.
So hope Nicky is having a great time in Iceland and all is well with everyone. Love Carole xx ☓
Hi everyone, how are you all? Lisa good luck with the applications. I am sure there is something nice out there waiting for you, even if you don't get the first one or two you see. You never know, you may be exactly what they are looking for. Well I live on sugar and carbs so that would be the worst diet in the world for me to try. Even though it would probably be the most effective one! I am just thinking about it at the moment as I have too many nice treats from Christmas and birthdays are approaching with more no doubt!
Carole hope your eye continues to improve. Lovely when you get such good effects from a procedure. No I don't qualify for a flu jab although they are under £10 if you want to buy one if I really did want one. my virus is just about gone, was rather persistent and had a high temperature with it. Strangely nobody at all caught it from me (that I saw around that time), despite me sneezing and coughing my head off. So at least I don't feel guilty, especially if the little ones were unwell. We booked our holiday and will be staying in Lisbon in a big hotel close to a lot of the places we want to visit and close to the nice shopping spots as we like to stroll around in the evenings while away. Victor has been busy booking seats to make sure his legs aren't squashed and fast track and anything else to make that part of the holiday go quicker. Has anyone stayed in the capital? Its really close to lovely beaches too if we want a day in the sand! I don't know about you but all your talk of trips has put me in a holiday mood, so I am hoping to do a small trip too. Nicky I will look forward to hearing about your exciting trip when you get back. I hope you manage to keep warm enough to be able to see everything you want to. Green with envy. Well better buzz off. love Lily xxx
Ouch lily that virus sounds awful, know that cough till your sick feeling, I've still got the cough but nothing near as bad. Carol glad your eye is healing.
not much to report here... I'm trying to count calories and done well during week but then wine and. Nibbles tonight grhh. The Keatonic diet sounds fab guy at work lost 2 stone in 8 weeks, but the lack of sugar and carbs gives me headaches. If I don't loose this week back to slimming world as hols end march but got 5 weekends busy before then eek.
work mad and merger won't happen till August but I'm thinking it's time for a change but very scary after 23 years but not much round here.... I've done my cv at last and I've applied for a job but it didn't advertise salary. It's and Admin manager at an engineering consultants and obviously with bnfl 20mins away it might work out well but I'm not sure I'll even get an interview cos jobs round here get 100s applicants but at least I've done it.
Nicky hope you're having fab time xxx
I hope you are feeling a bit better Lily your acidy cold sounds horrid. Do you get a flu jab every year for working in an environment that is high risk? I hope all the little people are not suffering it. I've heard parts of Portugal are lovely, but avoid the high tourist areas. Good luck with finding something.
Oh Nicky, Iceland, superb. I too would love a trip to Iceland but I would have to buy a whole new wardrobe to cope with the cold weather. Are you going to try and see the Northern Lights? It's on my wish list but goodness knows when I might get there.
In fact Mr P nearly booked us a 7 day cruise to see the Northern Lights, but there were no cruises in January (for my birthday).
I'm ok, but it changes on a day to day basis. The weather has improved a bit in the last couple of days so that helps. Sounds like we are all on a diet! I am 10 kilos more than pre-chemo so it would be nice to get at least half of that off. It's not easy though is it?
Eye was done last Friday so I'm putting in drops. I have a slight black eye but nothing as bad as the last time. I'm amazed at how bright everything looks when the sun is out.
Love Carole xxx
Hi everyone, how are you all? Lisa how did it go on Monday with the merger? I think its best to stick with what you know but still keep an eye out for an exciting new opportunity and then take it. Carole you better tell me what this ketogenic diet is then if its good. Although as I am typing I am pretty sure it will mean eating things I absolutely hate or giving up foods I would kill for ha ha. I have 4 meal replacement bars to try but I can't stick shakes so a bit limited. First of all I need to get serious and try properly. So until then I am carrying on as usual. I have been off work feeling really ill with a high temperature and didn't really know where I was, horrendous acid and a cough to match so had to sleep sitting upright or just sick. Just a virus cold but hit me hard for some reason.I'm thinking of buying shares in a tissue making company. Relieved to be on my way out of it and not encouraged by people telling me if I get the Australian flu I will be like that for 7 - 10 days 😞
The dog has been very pleased to be able to sprawl across the bed next to me for days. I think she would live in there if given the chance. Carole you sounded a little low and I hope you are starting to brighten up as Nicky said as you think about some visits over here. You could always make some nice things for your GD - maybe a nice quilt or cover for when she gets into a bed or summer dresses if you can turn your hand to clothes? Get yourself busy with a project. Our little girl has dummies at night and they leave 3 in the cot so she can find one in any direction, if that is something they might like to try. The midwifes really encourage dummies now especially if breathing trouble as it keeps that airway open so a bit safer, especially for the wheezy ones. I'm sure they will work out what is best for him. Good luck.
Well I am as green as green hearing about all these trips. Iceland is somewhere I would like to visit too, what temperature would it be there at this time? How lovely to have a holiday with your daughter and then others to plan 🙂 Lisa trips to Florida and New York, oh you are really getting to me with that. Look at the internal flights as our relatives use them to fly between the same 2 areas and they are very casual compared to the big airports. We have been invited to a wedding in the states too but its school time and even if I went unpaid I would only be allowed a really short trip and the thought of my air sickness twice close together is not making me want to try the trip. I thought about jumping out the plane flying back from New York as I felt so bad. Typical that I always seem to get bumpy flights compared to others. Wish I could travel around like all of you guys without any yukkiness. I am trying to book a holiday somewhere close though, so Europe. Thinking of Portugal. Anyone got advice where to stay if we want places to look round as well as a sunbathe? Better go as dog is pressuring me into letting it in our room! The eyes bore through you. Love Lily xx
Sorry you had a sad Christmas without Heidi, Carole and the dull and damp weather won’t have helped you I’m sure. You will miss her of course but her time had come and it was better she was out of pain and stress -personally I think we often treat our pets more kindly at the end of their lives than we do our old folk! On a happier note I hope the weather picks up and maybe there’s something you can put your mind to to keep you busy until the days become longer and warmer? A visit to the UK to see little miss maybe?
Well, GS has eventually got through the worst of his cold, having been prescribed steroids, as you mentioned Lily. Poor little lamb, and obviously some sleepless nights for his Mum and Dad as he wasn’t settled at all over the last week. Happy to report he’s back to his usual cheeky self with big smiles and laughs and sleeping much better. What ED and her OH hope is he might have ditched his dummy during this time at night as he didn’t need it to get back to sleep and that was something they were going to have to break the habit of as he was waking up when he dropped his dummy. Hmmmmmm, I have to remind ED that we had to do the same with her, she was sleeping a good 10 hours a night but I was getting up goodness knows how many times to put the bloody thing back in! So maybe they won’t have to do that but and he may have done it for himself now.
Lisa, hoping whatever is happening at work doesn’t impact you anymore but presumably very difficult to stay there when it’s not the same and also very difficult to move to another equal job? At least you’re always planning nice holidays with family and friends so there’s always something to look forward to 😊☀️
Talking of holidays YD and I are off to Iceland in a week or so, whilst OH is on a business trip elsewhere. We’ve always wanted to go so decided as a last minute. Brrrrrr, it would be nice to be going somewhere hot but as long as we are wrapped up it should be OK. After that, and depending on my results, OH and I will try to book something fairly soon but can’t really plan too much in advance until some stability is shown.
Have a good week all
Hi all, hope your all okay and everyone boding or recovered from damn bugs lol x
carole, hope the eye patch is holding up, must say you rock the eye patch look 😍. My dry January has disspareared due to family get together but starts again on Monday. A guy at work has done that diet and lost 2 stone in 8 weeks....
lily, I'm still at work but I'm not sure what to do at the moment, we are announcing our takeover or merger on Monday but to be honest the way we have treated our staff in this latest restructure has been so bad I have lost my love for the place after 22 years almost. Busy planning New York for 3 days after Florida and so excited but they are all leaving it for me to sort so feeling under pressure lol.
NIcky, let us know when results come in and it sounds like you've managed to have a nice Xmas despite dratted bug xxx
night all xx
Hi everyone how are you? Nicky I hope the colds are starting to improve at least and preferably have gone by now. Always a worry with the loittle ones I know. One of ours gets into trouble very easily with his asthma on top of any cold and needs steroids and treatments. When they are little though its just really hard to judge when to get a check and when its ok to sit it out. I hate the worry and hope it didn't go on for too many nights. I love the fact that your OH keeps on trying to buy the perfect gift, such perseverence shows great dedication. Sometimes I think men think in a completely different way and latch on to their last successful purchase and stick with that one. I chose a lot of my own as Victor does not take rejection nearly as well and looks so disappointed. I try to give him easy ideas but that still proves tricky!
Lisa how are you getting on at work now? Will you stick it out? Hope the house is more settled after all the work last year. I need some holiday ideas everyone. Summer hols so Europe and we like historic sights and places to walk to every day if possible.
Carole happy new year to you as well and hoping health issues settle down a little for you, after a very busy last year. Reading your words I can feel that blessed mammo, ouch! I can email wedding pics if you like yes, just send the address by pm. I was glad of a longer that usual break from work after such a busy December and I have tons of work to do as well. That's normal. Good job I am not clothes shopping in France then. I certainly would struggle to fit! It sounds like a quiet Christmas but hopefully the new year will bring trips to visit everyone and see how the children have all grown. Something to look forward to and plan. Beastly bad tempered nurse so I am glad you stood your ground. Upsetting though and i hope you are over it. Also that your eye is on the mend. Aye aye Captain Peacock 🙂 No I haven't heard of that diet but clearly I should as definitely larger than I want to be. terrible lot of chocolate in the house though so I am delaying it.
Most of all Nicky let me know when you get your results and everything crossed as always for a good start to the year.
Happy New Year to all my buddy friends and I hope it is a good one for you all.
Lily I hope that you managed your vegging out time following your busy Christmas and the wedding, which sounds a lovely day by the way. I would also love to see some photos if you would like my email address PM me.
Lisa how is your tiredness now, did you manage to get some relaxing time before your return to work? I know what you mean about the dancing ache, I used to love dancing but these days I can’t do it without lots of painkillers before and after! It always gets me in the hips lol.
Nicky I’m so sorry that your GS is having difficulties with his breathing. Everyone I know in the UK has had, or has now this Australian flu type thing which seems to linger on for weeks unfortunately. Fingers, as always are crossed for good results for your scan. Mr P always struggles to know what to get and I am a difficult one to buy for as French clothes usually don’t fit (they’re built for very tiny, very slim petite women, of whom I am not) and when it comes to ornamental type things I am quite fussy.
We had a quiet Christmas, we all struggled a bit as it wasn’t the same without Heidi, but it was nice to spend some time together. YD was off on her travels to Prague on Boxing Day where she spent New Year. Mr P and myself were fed up with the weather, every day was extremely grey, wet and windy so not good for even going for a walk. Our village is deathly quiet at the best of times so we didn’t see anyone and video messaged to the UK children and grandchildren, which is not the same as a hug. Still that’s our life so we have to put up with it. I can’t believe how big GD is getting but she is still lovely and her chubby cheeks are a delight.
Yesterday I had a bad experience with a nurse who came to do a blood test. She couldn’t find the vein and got extremely cross so I refused to let her try the hand and then she demanded I pay her for her time and diesel. I refused, believing she was too inexperienced to take blood from a difficult patient – then she had the cheek to tell me it wasn’t her fault!!!! Anyway I stood my ground and wouldn’t pay her, so off she stormed in a huff. I was upset and angry about it all day believing it was my fault my veins are bad.
Tomorrow I will be pirate Jack for a few days again as I am having the other cataract done. I am not looking forward to this but I know it should be over in an hour or so. My mammogram results were echo but they had a struggle to flatten the boob enough being as it’s a reconstruction.
Lisa, you and I are both on diets. I am giving up alcohol (have managed 2 days so far) and am going to do my best to exercise more. Has anyone tried the ketogenic diet? I’m going to try to eat more fruit, I like the exotic fruits best like papaya and mango which are incredibly expensive here.
Well I had better get on, no good sitting here in my PJs when there are things to be done. So again, I wish you all a happy new year and thank you for your support. Love Carole xx
Well I’m getting over my cold, slowly, but unfortunately GS who caught it from me (and/or OH) is suffering a bit with his breathing. So yesterday morning was spent with ED (and GS) going to a Drs appt and helping her out. Hoping he had improved overnight but sounds like she will be back at the Drs today as he is still struggling and you don’t want to take any chances with a young baby. I’ve heard of so many people at the moment who have had a cold that lingers on so there seems to be quite a nasty strain doing the rounds - hope none of you got it over Christmas and if you’ve already been suffering that it clears up soon.
My poor OH, he does his best for presents and I tell him that if I wasn’t concerned how much he spends i would keep a lot of the things but I always like to get usage out of them so a top or similar that I’ll only wear the once in my mind has to go back! I also struggle with the positioning of my port which is a very noticeable lump on my chest (so annoyed that the surgeon didn’t position it better) so he tries to choose clothes that don’t have a V neck but the round necks can also cause a problem as they don’t always disguise this lump, depends on the fabric and the hang of it - so I do feel sorry for him. Never mind at least I get the vouchers to then spend on what I will wear the most or something I didn’t get but actually wanted! The last couple of years he’s got it pretty much spot on, just a size change maybe, but this year the only day he could get off to go out shopping he was suffering from this bad cold so I doubt if he was paying much attention!
Anyway, hope this wind and rain isn’t bothering any of you, I couldn’t get to sleep for ages last night as it was so windy and I always expect some sort of damage to be done that I might hear. Still blowing now as well so be careful out there as it seems to be affecting most of the country - hoping it’s not like this where you are Carole.
Hi Buddies, how are you all after the festivities? I love to watch the fireworks on tv too as quite amazing how they plan them all. We went to ed for the evening but left fairly soon after midnight as still recovering from Christmas and the wedding really. Lisa are you still eating left overs. How annoying when people don't think so they know whether they will attend or not. Carole how was your Christmas and New Year?
Nicky glad to hear you are out and about and busy, so nice to have this time when your days are more free and less needles, even better. I will keep everything crossed for you as always regarding the scan results. You haven't mentioned any difference since stopping chemo so that is surely a good sign and no reason to not enjoy this peaceful time plus grandson time. He must be doubling your happiness and smiles and you know the importance I place on them. Good luck. Dratted colds. I am sure the colds this/last year are the longest lasting ones ever. My sore throat came back 4 times which is really annoying in my job as uncomfortable. Even more annoying when it hits over Christmas, poor you x. However, bingo crackers sound fun, must look out for them next year. Lol every year you take all the presents back. Why doesn't he make you choose or give vouchers? He must have realised he is not too good at picking things ha ha poor chap. We are less than a week from the first birthday and no-one knows what to buy him as he had so many xmas pressies. Then we will soon be coming up to our birthday spell and the 10th year. Wishing you all the very best for this coming year love Lily xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Happy 2018 buddies.
A very long absence on my part due to just being busy, which is always a good reason.
Unfortunately OH managed to share his cold first with me, then I passed it on to little GS and I think YD now has it. Seems there’s a lot of it around as so many people have been saying they’ve had bad colds. So we started off the merry season with a meal at friends on the Friday (before Christmas) which was great fun as she’d provided some ‘bingo’ crackers so we enjoyed a laugh at that. Then a quiet day on Saturday and Sunday with me feeling a bit worse. Luckily we weren’t having our actual Christmas Day meal etc on 25th as YD was working ski managed to go to bed for a while in the afternoon whilst the rest of the family went out visiting relatives - apart from feeling pretty rubbish I didn’t want to spread my cold especially to OH’s parents who are a bit vulnerable at the moment. Managed to feel better later on and dosed myself up with medicine and paracetamol to enjoy the evening once YD was back from work. We had a nice time with ED, her OH and GS staying overnight. So our Christmas Day started for real on Boxing Day and we had a lovely time with all the usual food and wine. My parents joined us but luckily weren’t staying - I said we had Jesus syndrome - no room at the inn! This meant it was still relatively quiet the next day as well which suited us all as SIL was back at work as was YD. it was nice this year as OH took all the time off between Christmas and NY so we just had a few local walks and a few trips into the sales, mainly to do my annual present returns as he knows I’m always returning stuff! Yesterday was a trip up to London to a restaurant we had wanted to go to for ages and managed to book for lunch - we didn’t want to be in London when all the mayhem and crowds started. The meal was fab, just as we had hoped and we headed home around 4 and popped in to see ED and family once we got back home on the train before leaving them in peace and getting back to our house for a night chilling out. Saw in 2018 with the fireworks on tv and a glass of champagne 🍾 and then off to bed. Oh, forgot to say I had my CT scan in between Christmas and NY so the wait is on for results which I will try to not get anxious about until the actual appointment as there’s not much point stressing about it.
So my big catch up is done, hope you all had a wonderful time.
Ps I’ve edited this as I forgot to say that the wedding sounded wonderful Lily, I knew it was near Christmas time so it must have added even more to a special time of the year for your family. Even if a chipmunk made an unplanned appearance!🐿
Happy new year buddies and here's to a healthy one.
lily can't wait to see some chipmunk and wedding snaps. My sign of a good wedding is always a full dance floor but boy do I ache afterwards lol
well I was totally spoilt and spend most of my break in pjs and sleeping so need to sort that before work on Thursday lol. Went out with friends last night but it went from 9 of us to 3 which is so annoying shoeshine when ide bought lots of stuff as starting at mine first.
Hopemyouve all had had a lovely relaxing time filled with fun friends and family xxx diet commences on Thursday as I've hit m all time heaviest and nothing fits xxxx
Hi buddies, hope you had a lovely Christmas with lots of visits or phone calls and maybe some nice presents. Christmas was crazy here, so many people to lunch that we were literally sitting on anything high enough to reach one of 2 tables squashed in the dining room. Lots of fun but boy have I peeled a lot of spuds and the very horrible but compulsary brussels, yuk. The little ones all had a whole day together and they get on so well that its lovely to see them all grow up together. i always laugh at the bizarre presents that they find exciting when you might have spent a lot more on a present you thought they would like best! Boxing day was a little quiter with 12 less guests and diners than we had on Christmas day but still quite a bit to prepare. As usual the turkey went so quickly I was disappointed to not have more days to enjoy conjuring up dishes to eat it.
Christmas was of course overshadowed by the wedding. We officially closed Christmas at the end of Boxing day and went into a few mad days making sure everything was in place. Ed looked absolutely stunning and the groom cried more than anyone else. I don't cry at happy events so most shots I am grinning like a chipmunk!! The day went perfectly and the venue and staff were very attentive to make everything go smoothly and as planned. A guest said to me that was the only one they had ever been to where they felt full up after the wedding breakfast. I was pleased to hear that as I like guests to go home full. I hardly slept that night due to severe cramp fropm over dancing, for a change. All the family love dancing except Victor and we even got him out of his seat for a while. Such a lovely, lovely day to remember. I can't wait to see all the photos. Well except those with a chipmunk in ha ha. We all met up again tonight for a takeaway and chat over the day and demolished a lot of the chocolate wedding cake. Well we have seen off the overseas guest too this evening, who added to the chaos this year and now I can have the house back to normal and calm down again. A bit of vegging out on the sofa watching tv is definitely needed.Well hope your holiday spell was enjoyable too. Love Lily xx
Hi all, here's wishing you all a merry Xmas and a healthy 2018 xxx I'm just making lemon posset and shortbread whilst consuming prosecco and not sure how they will turn out. At Mam and dads for lunch which will be a quiet one for a change but visiting family and kids in morning so that will be fun.
Lily i get what you mean about the shops. I couldn't believe the date on the used by dates this year so I've done it last minute and I'll need major diet after this. Sounds like you've had your hands full to lol.
well bronchitis has eased off a bit and sunus jut starting but boy I'm tired. I was up till three am wrapping went to bed woke up at five and next thing I knew it was dinner time couldn't believe it ... and still tired.
well folks off for some more wrapping. Hope you have an amazing day. I've been a bit lacks on here of late due to being tired and lots of work issues but I really don't know what I wouldn't do without you all.
merry Xmas buddies xxxx
Happy Christmas to everyone. i hope you all get over your colds and other health issues to be able to enjoy a few days of too much food and nice presents. No the wedding is after Christmas so still on the build up. Its been very difficult to get things delivered that you could normally rely on. Victor suddenly remembered the white ribbons for the cars and luckily that has got here. I still have 2 Christmas presents missing, annoyingly. Almost all of our cards arrived today too. Not that so many people send them these days but I like to send cards to oldies who I don't see because they live furtehr away. otherwise you lose contact altogether. I have been wrapping some presents but still a lot left to do.
I had a big Tesco shop and was disappointed how many things were not delivered and so still had to go out in the manic supermarket this morninfor things we didn't have or that were sent to go out of date before Christmas day! I have been anjoying catching up on some oldies on the movies like Bridget Jones and today I watched Coyote Ugly and one of the Jurassic Park films. Victor came in and said are you watching this? I said yes I am. He said you aren't even in the room how can you be? I said I just come back in for my favourite bits ha ha! I love rewatching favourites but he can't stand watching them more than once. Well mum is being very difficult and I am frustrated as i have been putting myself out and lost count of how many people's presents I chose, bought, wrapped and delivered only to have that oldy give me another list of things to choose, buy, wrap and deliver back! I really didn't have spare time but twice took her to shops to buy every individual food item she wanted even though I am not eating there any days at all, then still got a moody reaction and made to feel I was a problem! Grrr. Right got that off my chest. Then visited another relative because she said she was lonely and she spent the whole time telling me she wished she was dead. What the heck is the matter with these old timers? I have no patience for self pity when you are lucky enough to reach such a ripe old age and still be able to make yourself a cup of tea and not have any money worries. My brother says they better mean it if anyone says it to him!!! Anyway that's my depressing bit done so I can enjoy the little ones excitement at the parcel mountain and sacks and I will even enjoy the cooking and clearing up. Then a bit of a rest before our very special day. Love to all you buddies. I hope that 2018 is a kind year to you all and also to anyone else reading our posts.I saw a post that had been viewed over 900 times so dear friends i hope its a kind year for you too. Love Lily xxxx
