Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

hi hope everyone is ok

my younger son(13) as had us up the hospital all day, he went for sleepover at mates and they were running about and he put his hand through a glass door by accident, so he had to have an op. he had severed 2 tendons, we got the call at 5 this morning and only got back at 6 this evening, so not an exciting sunday. and i hated the memories of the theatre that came back when i waited with him to be aneathatised. i hope i never have to have that again, but im worried about my back because its so bad, i think it probable is muscular in my lower back, but it as set it off at the top were i know i have some spots on the bones.

anyway i dont know whats going to happen about work on tuesday, because time is ticking away, and the back is still hurting especially in bed. lily i sympathise with hubby, its no laugh! im going to bed early see if i can get a good night, so all take care x

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi,
hmmmmm mouth tightly closed and avoiding coughing like the plague after hearing that Julia. It just sits in my throat and is so annoying. The cold weather sets it off too, every time I go out the door or even open it. I had to pick my son up late last night and could hardly drive for coughing, the night air really gets me. Keep us posted how you get on in your Friday appointment. It might be worth looking up all the drugs he could give you to see if there is one that suits you best. How are the rads going? I started to feel it very slightly during the later part of the second week but by the morning any pinknesss had gone again.
Angie sorry to hear you were yuk. Hot cars make me get terribly travel sick, that breathing in warm stuffy air - yuk. Are you feeling better now? I will have a peek at that place later but sounds lovely. I have to say the wedding has really helped me to think and talk about other things now. Just a word of caution, if you were having a civil ceremony at the venue, check when the registrar is free too. You have to pay for them to come to the venue and on certain days there may only be one available. You can hold the date 2 years ahead provisionally, so a lot of dates get tied up early, especially May onwards. We found the popular places are already half full for Summer 2010. If you can marry mid week and take a cancellation, you can get an amazing drop in prices. Lots of luck in finding a place that is just right for you two.
Better go, tiny terror stayed last night and apparently we need to discuss pepper pig!!

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi: Haven't sorted the pills yet, should be seeing Prof on Friday to decide on what. Am concerned about Herceptin as I have bad family history on Ma's side for heart trouble - Mum's sister died of heart attack at about 50 - long before I was born, of her six kids three have heart trouble, one died waiting for transplant, one daughter has cholestrol levels of Guiness Book of Records levels and is on continual treatment for that. So am not too happy about doing anything that could affect the ticker. added to which my tachycardia palpitations are worse now than six months ago - probably SE from chemo - and I get breathless with them sometimes so will have to run thru all this with the onc. I think around here they just do six months Herceptin not 12, but all will be revealed on Friday.

hope all the bad backs are getting better - girlfriend has horrific cough and has cracked and rib and torn two muscles with coughing. She was on liquid morphine but was so spaced out has had to give it up.

Take care all, and have a good week.

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Oh god, don't mention food. This work retreat is good but it seems there;s a price for having any fun. in my case it's spending the evening in the loo talking to white elephants and needing to sleep every 6 hours. The problem is the heat from 27 people all being in the same room without aircon. I used to hate aircon but now I feel so sick if I get hot. I've eaten nothing but dry toast for 3 days now.... Am just consuming a bowl of museli with home now.

Everyone's been so sweet, it's the 1st time I've seen most of them since my diagnosis so I really wanted to just be well and this to be behind me but life's not like that is it Smiley Sad

Thank god for Lucozade and Dorset cereals.

Lorrainne. So hope your back is better soon. I know what homeopathics to use there so ask if you want to know. I don't want to force any info on anyone so won't do that unless people ask now.

I think we're all a lot weaker than we think. In comparison to when I was diagnosed a year ago I am so much weaker.

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi,
well the space age dressings were fantastic and just sorted it all out. I still have peeling patches but it is not bothering me at all. I am sure that keeping the skin of your boob and your chest apart is the way to go to avoid this.Mine like everything else slouch south and lean on the next biggest bulge!! LOL. Sorry, prob put you off yout dinner now.
Went to 2 more wedding venues today and we all fell in love with the same one -luckily! We have the whole place for the day so get a dining room all laid up with cream linen and bows, a disco room and bar, lounge with sofas for quiet moments, outside courtyard garden with seats and another bar, a really gorgeous ceremony room in a separate little building and a huge farmhouse with 8 bedrooms. The immediate family (if bride and groom agree of course) can all stay at the farm house and all have a big cooked breakfast together the next morning. Bride and groom get their own sectioned off part of the house. That was the easy bit, now we have to work out a budget!!! Needless to say I am planning my return to work and full wages pretty smart. The whole setting is a barn so very cosy and exposed wooden beams everywhere, set in the middle of the countryside. I was very close to blubbing looking at the happy brides in the photos they showed us and had to do that 'think about something else quickly' move and bit my tongue to add pain to help. The second venue was fab too but we had been to wowed by the first to be compromised. I await the verdict when they have done their figures but don't think it will be a comfy bill. Hubby was totally incapacitated in bed with his back. Lorraine he sounds just like you. I even had to get him a bottle he could drink from without sitting up. I also bought a heat pad that you plug in to warm the whole back area but not much good till he gets up. He is overdosing on Syndol tablets as they are painkillers and have muscle relaxants in them too. Hope yours improves very soon. I will tell my Victor that you have been like that for 5 days and try to frighten him to see a doc or someone. He hates anything medical so never goes. Sorry you have been upset too, it is so frustrating I know to get through treatment and then get something else. Just this cough is driving me to distraction as it starts every evening and morning. Sound like I smoke 40 a day sometimes!
Nicky I understand your worries completely and think we will always get more anxious than others about pains. Headaches are so common and being side effects too, you have to try to put them in the normal box. Easier said than done I know and I have worried about every little thing, including the cough so I am no good at dishing out advice!! Thanks, the burn is fine now and I don't even remember I have it mostly. The dressing worked so quickly, it is amazing stuff. Are you back on all foods again now? I am getting fatter by the day due to enjoying the taste of food so much again. Hope the vampires were quick and good luck on Monday. I get my 9 month surgical check up that day too. Looks like I might be going on my own if he is still in bed! I have tiny terror too, so will need a good plan to keep them all in the right place at the right time. Better go and do next round of 'in bed drinks and food'

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

hi everyone
hope your living it up! having a wonderful weekend? my back pain is still hurting ouch. and i mean really painful, i cant even move to turn around in bed, and have to grip on to the sheets when i get up. and its even uncomfortable when i dont move, i go to see onc next wednesday cant wait, boy have i got some questions for him.

lily 2000

your poor husband , i sympathise , and i can feel the pain when you cough in bed. im praying i can get back to work next week, but its worrying me, because its still pretty bad at times. i just want to get back to normal, my eldest son was so unsympathetic this morning that i ended up crying, not like me, but when youve been in pain for 5 days its enough to make anyone. i hope your body settles after the rads.

Nicky 08
well i never, you just cant wait, dirty weekends on the horizon already? is that maybe why the headaches come on.?

take care everyone else.x

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi Lily
What a shame all this redness and soreness has come out after rads. Just when you think you're 'done' there's something else to sort - the story of all our lives during this episode. Touchwood (ie my head!) my heart has calmed down a lot. I did get a bout of palpitations last weekend, yes, I had been drinking but only a glass or 2 that evening. My ED suggested it was a reaction to such a small amount of alcohol after the huge amount I had on NYE ;-) So generally a lot better than I was plus the tummy has settled down although occasionally I get a couple of blips but it also took a long time to settle after chemo/anti-biotics had stopped. However I seem to get headaches a bit more at the moment which is worrying for me where I am with this blooming disease but having said that my A I's and heart tablets both list it as a fairly common SE. In fact the thread on here about Arimidex has loads of women saying they are on paracetamol for them. I will let you know if we are at any motor events your way. Between the girls and I we bought OH a driving experience at Goodwood for his Christmas present so we will all be going along later this year to see how he enjoys it. Sorry to hear about OH's back, funnily they never seem to get things looked at as we would. Yet they moan about their continued problems! I'm off to the vampires lair on Friday ready for my treatment next Monday, hopefully straightforward and over with by lunchtime.
Have a good weekend, it's snowed here overnight so will be out for a walk later - I keep being told by other locals who walk over the Common that I need a dog as I seem to be the only one without one. A nice idea but OH and I are just getting used to the idea of some freedom later this year and don't want to be tied down with more pets etc.

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi,
still having fun with the rads burn so bought aloe vera gel this time. An hour later I had a nice fringe of burnt skin hanging off my chest - nice. it mad me peel even more and the skin underneath is so red and not happy to be out in the air. I spoke to the rads hospital again and the sister said day 7 - 10 is the turning point so it should improve from now on. She said it would heal better and scar less if covered by a dressing not it was breaking out, so had to get some special space age gel dressings for radiotherapy damage. they are brilliant and just cling to you to separate the breast and chest skin. It is where they touch that i am red raw now. So fingers crosse it is on the up now. Visit to the surgeon on Monday so will see what he says if not better by then. It is a problem going to another hospital as no rad done in our town so no experts. it is a big unit with 2 rooms for ladies and men seem to go somewhere else, so not sure how many machines there are altogether. Julia hope you are luckier than me. I was fine, just felt a bit hot after week 2 but hardly any red to see. The day after I finished it went mad. Withdrawal symptoms maybe!! Have you started your tablets yet and have they made their decision about herceptin. That is another year of going every 3 weeks I believe, but a very successful drug. Angie have you started your nolvadex yet? How are they going if you have? Hope the geeks didn't bore you too much and good luck with the packing and house move. Lisa I agree we do too much, except I am not working so maybe I am the exception. Mind you I have had tiny terror all week so feel pretty tired every night. Lorraine I would love to be permanently cheerful and I guess mostly I am but every now and again. Doooooooooooooooown. Hoping time makes it happen less often. How is your back now? And yours Angie? Nicky has you heart settled completely now? Brilliant if you can get rid of some of these worse side effects. You can always do one of your short trips over here some time if you feel like it. We are hoping to go to Brands Hatch again this summer, which track do you go to? Would be great to meet up if anything suitable comes up. We should all post if having a UK holiday over the years as we may all eventually meet. Sorry i am not in a nice seaside spot!
Off to more venues tomorrow. Hubby has done his back in and got stuck on the train, then could not lift his leg up to get on a bus when he got into London so had to walk. I am sorry to say everyone he told, including me chuckled about his story. We said he could have bought a red rover and travelled round on the bus all day like a mascot! He will not see anyone about his back and suffers all the time so we are not as kind as we should be. I have a silly, annoying cough so no doubt will be in trouble for bouncing the bed - steady on!!!!
Enjoy the weekend. Anyone got anything medical next week?

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hope you all have a great weekend. So the first week of 2009 is now done and a lot of us seem to be back at work already.

I'm on a work retreat down in the Peak district this evening... 48 hours, 27 geeks, a dozen presentations, 2 wii consoles and an awful lot of planning for the next election.... wahhh keep your fingers crossed for us. Poor Tommy's fighting a Migraine right now so it's all looking a bit hairy. That and I felt awful yesterday, had to go back to bed twice and sleep 12 hours overnight. Just felt so achy and sick. Does anyone else occasionally feel like they may have had more treatment than they really need?

So should be back on Monday and then all I have to do is my tax return and move house.

So if you don't see me here again before Feb you know why.

Gulp.

Lots of love and stay warm

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi: Think I set a world record yesterday for in and out for my rads. Got to hospital at five to four - only 25 mins early for appointment - no traffic - checked in, sat down, called immediately, done and dusted and back in car at 6 mins past four!!

My team reckon it will be mid to end next week before I get any reaction - again, wait and see- got day off rads today as they are mending the machine.

All have a good weekend .

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi ladies
Hope the aches and pains are easing. I had a headache all day yesterday which was a real nuisance as I was at work but I think looking at a computer screen all day the day before caused it. Seems better today so, onwards and upwards. As Lisa says, I'm enjoying being back at work and getting some hours under my belt. I really thinks it helps mentally to be getting on with normal things - plus the money helps!
We're planning some short breaks which we did a couple of times last year and OH really enjoyed doing low key things as well. Hopefully we'll do something in the next couple of months either UK or quick trip to Europe. I'm off to Paris at the end on Feb (yes, again!) with Youngest Daughter (will now abbreviate to YD and ED - eldest daughter) as she has an open day at the University of London who have a campus there. She didn't get into Cambridge but, to be honest, it's not really 'her' - way too preppy and she's fed up with that as she's been in that environment since she was 11. Really wants to go to Paris for 3 years - who wouldn't - and has a very good offer from them. However a lightening trip but will still enjoy it. OH and I hope to go away in May as I promised him some MotoGP tickets for his birthday so instead of sticking to boring old England for the experience we'll combine it with a few days away. After that we'll wait and see but even if it's just an odd day here and there it's nice to take some time out. Do you have any close friends or family you could go away with Lisa? One of my friends ended up being on her own on a Sunsail holiday last year (long story but 'partner' let her down at last minute) and it ended up being a week full of single people so she had a great time.
Julia - hope rads go well and you don't end up sore like poor Lily. Watch out for tiredness and drink lots of water as Angie has said.
Lily - hope things are calming down, have seen your thread about the 'burning' but not read any of it so far.
Lorraine - hope your back is easing and you are getting it sorted if it needs to be.
Bev - hope the holiday is good, I know you won't read this right now but I'm sure you will when you get back and have bored us silly with your holiday photos!!
Take care everyone else, have a good weekend, I'm off to work now for the morning only - thank goodness, however the afternoon is less 'exciting' as it involves Tesco and internet car insurance quotes!

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi all: Well am back at work having had best part of three weeks off – so long since I have been here could hardly remember where it was!

Having read thru all of your posts on here and our previous mammoth message board, it seems that we are doing OK generally, just moving on to other things. Shame about the bad backs – nothing worse and it makes you feel like such a creaky old lady – I already am but some of you gals are only kids!

Lily you seem to have your hands full with the upcoming wedding and the costs seem horrendous. I didn't bother with the big white thing just did the registry office thing in mid February – snow on the ground and blazing sunshine. I think these things take on a life of their own if you are not careful. But I am sure you will all have a fab time.

Angie: Hope the packing is going OK – I've never moved house on my own – stayed with parents until married and we have been in the same house for nearly 40 years! You could say we like it here. Biggest problem is the garden – one third acre but hopefully have found gardening girl in the village who will be back to work when the weather eases up. I am a chucker – OH is a hoarder – "What are you keeping that for?" "Ah it may come in useful one day!" I chuck whatever away and say – when you miss it let me know!!!

Hair seems to have stopped growing – must be the cold weather, but there is sufficient for around the house and with friends but too thin on top for going out and about so it is still wiggies.

Have had first three fryings – fourth one today, get day off tomorrow as they are servicing the machine – since it broke down three times during my two one minute zaps, think it needs a new rubber band. So far no effects. Am ladling on the aqueous muck and still using it as shower gel, but – as I keep saying – SFSG (so far so good) but guess it will start to hit me next week. Still haven't seen the onc about future treatment but no doubt they will get around to that at the end of next week. My unit is just the room with the rad machine and you take your clobber off in there. There are six people attached to the unit – four female, two blokes, one a young trainee. One of the girls plays golf with one of my best mates so that is nice. After the initial one you don't really worry about lying there and chatting to 20 year old about his future!!!

Just picking up on the NY resolutions: always the same really – lose weight, drink less, move about more but starting in January – particularly this January – is a no go. Will wait until the rads are over and then get into gear. The keeping positive point is a good one, Nicky, but, as you say sometimes it all gets to you. It is almost twelve months now since I found the lump and from there it pretty much has been downhill although I have not suffered anywhere near as much as some of you gals, but it is looking at the future which is difficult.

Like the carpe diem – also translates as "pick the day when it is ripe" as well as seize the day (no I am not a Latin scholar but just found another version of the translation and like it!).

Time I got off here and did some work, also nearly time for lunchtime walk – just seen the weather forecast for next week – heavy rain and gales – Oh good!!

Chins up girls (no matter how many we have!!) we have got rid of 2008 and now let's look forward to 2009.

Love to all

Julia

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

hands warmer today! Appointments commence next week and chasing one up re lymphodema as my elbow is much more swollen now - really dont want to have to wear an obvious sleeve all the time! Diet going well, might not seem like much but I havent have a beverage since Sunday, oh maybe that is why I am not sleeping!!!!! I looked well on Monday but as the week wearing on Im looking tired and worn out at night but yoga starts next Thrusday!!

Holidays...... well Ive started looking at recon and going to try and push my breast MRI which spots things at a much earlier stage but they only do about 100 a year and on brca carriers so if that is all clear I will hopefully book in for later in the year , sad but I want some time back at work! I was also thinking my parents go on holiday to Florida in May and might surprise them and land for a week, but need to think about it first as not sure how I will handle swimming costume, vest tops as my scar is sooo high so will wait and see. Might have a trip to Dublin for some family birthday, have withdrawel symptons as havent been last year and go every year. Maybe a little trip somewhere nice in england would be better and then have a bigger one next year - bit hard as I dont have any single friends.

Well better get back to it!!!
xxxx

p.s. Lily, sounds like you will really have your hands full when you go back to work! I said I would be more sensible but already got a lot on boss thinks Im back on form (which is nice to hear....but) and already havent left at home time yet!!!

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

hi everyone, its the old lady (well thats what i feel like anyway), the back is still the same , i have had to say i cant go in work tommorow, because i still cant get about properly and i cant bend which i need to to pick up the little ones. ive tried just talking to them but they wont settle sometimes.
i feel awful taking time off but i cant do nothing about this,so i just have done what i can do, heat pad, tabs, and seen the doc man thats all i can do i dont like the situation but what choice do i have but to accept it? i am concerned i wont manage the job because i find it really hard getting up and down off the floor as well, my joints ache so much, anyone else? they seemed understanding at work, but who knows what there thinking, but again its out of my control.

lily 2000

i think youd better find your self a sugar daddy, to pay for the wedding, that would be the answer to all your troubles? what you where saying about being here in the future, rang a few bells,, i try to not think about it most of the time, but if the truths known now and again i fear for my children, if im not around because we share certain things now, which they dont talk to their father about. but i try to pull myself back to reality and think why worry about things that might not happen, my husband just says nobody knows how long theyve got. so the old saying, "dont worry about tommorow, for today as enough of its own worries." is true i say. and its a lot easier to cope with the present day, so if we just focus on that well be ok.

take care everyone.x

hope your back is better, its just horrid isnt it! im more frustrated by this than bc i think!

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi,
congratulations on being back at work all of you. I guess I am the last one to make that big step. Lazy bones. Mind you teaching is heavy on stress, so you have to feel pretty strong to get out there and do battle with the masses. I am thinking of going back in about 3 weeks so I will work for 3 weeks before half term in case I can't keep up with things. It is mainly the huge amounts of marking to be done and reports take hours. I used to work all weekend and most evenings and really have to try to get a better balance to reduce stress. I am now used to having more personal time too. I am looking forward to getting full wages back again. We have managed ok but changed our lifestyle quite a bit as we usually eat out a lot and treat the family to meals. Tomato soup at home for the last 4 months!! LOL .
My son has his first A level module tomorrow so I have been testing him on business studies most evenings. I hope it is going in! He runs out of time in most exams so I have been trying to get him out of his usual horizontally relaxed state. He gets distracted in a second by tv, phone, ipod, movies, football, girls!! You name it, anything is better than school work right now. I might have to go out shopping to distract myself tomorrow as I now have all the facts roaring round my head. I had my Grandson today as he was still too poorly to go to nursery. Not fair I had to give him 2 doses of nasty penicillin!!! He was not impressed and did a tongue block to tip it off the spoon, a real expert!
Is anyone going away this year, apart from bev who is somewhere nice as we speak? I am going to book a holiday in the next week to encourage myself to go back to work! Tehs chools break up really early this year in our area so we can catch a cheaper deal sometimes. Always high seson when we go away unfortunately
Lisa my daughter gets really cold hands and has been wearing fingerless gloves, don't know if that would help you? Nicky hope the work pile goes down and the brain says the right things on the phone. I say really stupid things and it drives me mad. it will be terrible when I am back at school!

Hi Lisa
Unfortunately coldness in the hands is a side effect of Arimidex :-( Hope you warm up soon!
1st day back was OK, at least the office is warm. Caught up on lots I was meant to do in December and now ploughing through all the calls I have to make this month! At least it keeps me busy!

Wierd eh! Think we all have aches and pains hopefully downto weather too!!

Angie - good luck with the packing

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi ladies
Brrrrr, it's cold isn't it? Last day of 'freedom' for me yesterday as I'm back at work today. It's so strange having worked all through chemo (when I could) and then been laid low since then especially during December when I didn't work at all. It will be odd going back but I'm looking forward to it as a) I will be earning money again, b) They will be heating me during the day, c) I will be back with friends and d) there's nothing else to do in January and February! I chased around yesterday doing most of my odds and sods but still have a long list of things to catch up on. I'm not back full time yet so I will take it easy and still have a couple of days off a week. All of you who are back at work I hope it's going OK and be careful that you don't get too tired even if it seems your job is 'easy'. Sounds like yours isn't at the moment, Lorraine. It's so easy to pull your back and I expect we are all a lot less strong than we think we are. I hope it calms down with some painkillers or just not bending again - maybe see your GP if things don't improve today? Is it in an area where you have mets? I would think that they (it) may be weaker anyway so may cause more pain than other places. Try and rest up today if you have the day off, it would be awful if this stops you going back this week to work, I'm sure they'd understand but, as you say, doesn't look so good on your 4th day!
Angie - hope your back improves as well and the packing goes well. Are you a hoarder or a ditcher? I throw out all sorts of things and then remember them a few years later when I either need them or they are back in fashion! Can't be doing with clutter though - now, why does that surprise you all? Exciting to be moving though especially if it's in the same area - it must mean you love being there. We moved back to our 'original' area to this house 3 years ago and it's the best thing we did. We'd only gone about 10 miles away but to a world of difference - and old people! We love being back here where most of our friends are plus it's so convenient for all sorts of things. Hope the weather doesn't hold you up with any clearing up, at least it's not pouring.
Lily - wow, scary numbers you're talking about for the wedding! I think I'd feel similar that it would be nice to give them the money and have a much quieter celebration but you also want to do what they would want. With both of mine off to uni in September I'm hoping we have a few more years before any such plans start being talked about! Hubby's are very positive and don't like to hear the 'not sure if I'll be here bit'. I'm further down the road on that one (unfortunately) but it's something I try not to think about and OH definitely doesn't so I guess we won't. Our good friend Lorraine has the right attitude on that one! On the H front, I was in M & S yesterday and saw a lady with a short crop, like mine, but it was almost silver. It got me thinking again about going light or blond! Will discuss with my errant hairdresser when I track him down but will stick to wiggie for a few more weeks. Just want it all to look good for daughter's 18th.
Lisa - hope memory improves - I hope mine is OK when I get back today, at times the words do not come out right which is a pain as my job is to talk on the phone all day!
Will have to sign off now as youngest needs to print off something before heading to college.
Sorry to all I've not mentioned and hope you are all doing OK and not freezing!

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi,
thanks for all your messages. Well the expensive and the cheaper venue have been more or less removed from the list, which leaves us with her final 2 favourites next weekend, both start at £8000 (ok if I say it quickly)!!! Now you see why I am worried about my Victor wanting to splash out on anything to make it perfect. The expensive one was almost £13000 so I expected something really special for that. I would rather they paid it off their mortgage or had a fantastic honeymoon and had a smaller do. I have also had to start dropping hints to people that they might not be invited. Not a nice task but I thought if I mentioned it looks like it will be a small wedding as very expensive, and that they are choosing the guest list, no-one would try to work on me. My Mother has already had 4 attempts at who is bridesmaid so I am protecting my daughter from getting a guilt complex about her own wedding. She is very sensitive about these sort of things normally but has been determined to make it her day and have her sisters and her best friend standing next to her, and not stray relatives of the right age. I am not at all patient with any negative comments from others or interference so hope that stops soon. Still better I hear it and then she can carry on sailing along on her little cloud of happiness with a big grin on her face. Enough of weddings for now.
Angie, I agree aqueous is rubbish. It got so annoying that I rang the hospital and was sent to the GP for hydrocortisone cream. The nurse said I was the 2nd lady to go in like that and she did not ahve any expertise on the matter so prescribed what they said. The rads nurse said you cannot use Zinc creams while having treatment because of the metal content but was not sure about afterwards. I wanted to use sudocrem. The local little Boots did not have aloe vera cream to try!! Anyway the cortisone has taken the sting out immediately and it has now moved on to itching. Is yours really dark? Mine is bordering on Jamaican colouring and peeling a bit tonight. I tried the aluminium free doedorants but they are hopeless. A researcher told a friend that when they dissect armpit nodes they find aluminium, so advised her to avoid it. My good intentions have gone again. I have read that the greatest threat is being overweight so that is my big one to work on, might try the others later. I really want to swim as exercise though. M & S food would be great but the venues will only let you use approved caterers, who start at a high price per head, that is where most of the cost is coming from. Nicky well done for fixing the boiler, my Mum's does that if the water pressure changes and has to reset it. It went 3 times recently so might be the cold weather I guess. A bit late to get the to elope, might suggest that to the other 3 though!! I would get saving now for your 2. There is a lot of peer pressure to have a big event that we could do without. I hated taking the tinsel down too and moped about a bit. Focusing on her 18th sounds like a good idea. The wedding makes me go maudlin too at times as it is so far away. I ventured the ccomment to Victor 'I hope I am still here to see it' and he said that was a ridiculous thing to say. You just can't help it some says can you? He said he has not for one single minute thought I might not make it through this. Well glad one of us was ok then! Must have been me doing all the worrying and grey hairs. Nice to have that level of belief and peace of mind. I am still working on mine though. Really hope you get your H how you want it soon.
Lisa I have not been to work for 10 months now. Well done you for getting it all back together again. Hope the memory kicks in to do all the new jobs!! I am frozen all the time too. Took my temp yesterday and it was 34.4, my friend said the chemo might have affected my thyroid. If I am going to get thyroid trouble I am only accepting the kind that makes you thin, not the put on weight one!!! Enjoy your books again.
Lorraine hope your back eases soon. Could you try kneeling down to talk to the children instead of picking them up? Hope it is not too painful now. Same for Angie's poor back too. I will be very careful with my big tank of a grandson when he says pick me up Nanna. He has had a high temo since new years eve when he was sick on me, so went to the Gp today. Little dear screamed from the second he went in apparently so the doc gave in and gave her antibiotics as could not get his stethoscope near his chest. Glad I don't have to talk him into taking the medicine!
Keep warm everyone

I can only guess that we're all a bit weak.

Had a minor breakthrough yesterday, read for the first time since diagnosed - used to love it but for some reason couldnt pick a book up since - well it was a cheesy good one, went to bed early at 11.30pm and was still up at 2.30am reading! Well back to the grindstone, boss has decided now Im back to give me all my work back, maybe he thinks my memory is back too!!!!

Brrr. I'll second the freezing fingers lisa.

re makeup and skin goodies basically if you can't pronounce all the ingredients it don't slap it on LOL. I treated myself to a little mineral makup kit from the states on ebay, jsut pure minerals and little trial sizes but they're so great. You can use the powder dry like eyeshadow or dip a fine brush in water and then into the pwoder to make wet eyeliners etc. It's great. Can give you a link to people on ebay if you like. Unlike normal rubbish makeup leaving it on can be better for your skin rather than make you wake up looking like a panda lol. Best £20 I ever spent on makeup.

Bare Essentials are a well known brand over here, it's the same stuff pretty much. I'm just sticking with organic things when it comes to smellies.

Good luck with the boiler Nicky... what a time to conk out on you, it's coldest winter in decades and we all have short hair and cr@p heating... grrr..

Got a friend on the phone to Tommy. Him and his missus are pregnant (OK so technically she's the pregnant one) and my other best mate's baby will be here in 2 weeks, she hates pink and baby blue so we don't talk about babies or treatments as we're both sick of docs as I'm sure you all know.

Lots of love

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi
Well, things have improved. Sp to boiler man and he said try the reset buttons, did so and hey presto I have heat and hot water again. I seem to have a boiler that needs a lot of TLC so I have learnt a bit about it, must add this bit to my repertoire! Stupid oil fired thing that it is!
I meant to have mentioned the dreaded H again on earlier post - I am cursed in this department! Colour is defo not me, too reddy and a few shades too dark so have decided to keep to wiggie for a while longer - glad I didn't put them in the bin or give them to the hospital! Will get my colour re-done when I can get hold of my hairdresser and ditch wiggie when I'm comfortable with how things look. I was getting very stressed about this the other night so didn't sleep well at all but that's just me I guess! Tip to get the H flat is to put on your wig or whatever hat/buff you used to wear and it flattens down nicely!
Should be back to work tomorrow but may put it off until Wednesday as I have so much to do and need to get some bits with youngest today before she goes back to college tomorrow.
Blummin' cold here, tried to snow but not very successfully thank goodness.
Wrap up warm, hope the fingers thaw out Lisa.

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

hiya all, back to work, boo hoo, waiting for my fingers to defrost - its so cold here today!! Lily wedding sounds so expensive!!!!

Lorraine - Im defo not brave about reconv, gonna have to look at options, started looking last night and scared the pants of me, I am really scared of any surgery and think the only reason getting it is cos I have to have a masectomy on good side.

Lily - wedding sounds soooo expensive but you will enjoy it.

Nicky - hope you get your boiler fixed, its so cold to be withouth! Its hard not having blips I know, I also think its lack of hormones as I can cry at the drop of a hat for no apparent reason.

Angie - what should I be looking at in my make up that's bad for me? would be sooo sad to get rid of my clinque bag of goodies I got for Xmas

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi all
Very cold here outside and inside as, you guessed it, the boiler has decided not to work arghhhh. It's not as if it's old either as we only moved into this new house 3 years ago. Also no hot water until the immersion kicks in - lovely lot of bills we'll be having then!
Lily - weddings seem so expensive these days, I really hope my 2 leave it for some time then decide to fund it themselves! Or run away to get married or not get married! It is incredible what they charge these days as you say for fairly average food etc. Hope the hunt for the perfect place produces some good results.
Re the area of rads, definitely try what Angie has but also aloe vera gel/cream is very good. I don't think it's as important to avoid certain things now as you're not being zapped and therefore no topical reaction can take place but it may be worth checking. Hope all calms down soon.
Back to the fondue - ingredients were as you mentioned, Angie, but boy did it turn out differently than normal. Maybe the kirsch I used (when thickening it) was super strength or something. Anyway I'll go back to my usual recipe in future.
Rest of weekend was uneventful thank goodness but did feel rather low when taking down decs on Saturday as I really don't know what the future holds for me and although I wanted 2008 to disappear asap I don't know what will happen in 2009. I did cheer up later but do get blips like this every now and then. Am focussing on youngest's 18th birthday in March now.
Definitely feeling achey, can't wait to get a massage to ease some of my shoulder aches but have realised that as I have no oestrogen left then it's not surprising!
I've also chosen, like Angie, to avoid all the rubbish in body creams etc but haven't yet changed my makeup - will be checking out the minerals ranges in that case! I had some lovely pampering stuff for Christmas but made sure it didn't have any nasties in it. Although they were quite expensive (it was for Christmas!) I know there are other much more affordable stuff available which I try to use as well.
I'd better go now as gradually freezing and seizing up sat here in the cold. Had better find my logs for a fire (don't normally need them with central heating) and hope the water warms up soon.
Take care all

Lily:
re swimming I think 6 weeks minimum and even the depends what's been added to the water. wouldn't want chlorine even now myself. a few more weeks yet but a jacuzzi could be nice now. I have bubble bath again now. I found the aqueous cream all but useless, got an almost full tub here. the tiniest bit of Nelson's burns cream and all was well. I wonder if they've done any tests with zinc oxide as that's what they use on 2nd degree burns.... we always have some around just in case. I never wore makeup because of the cr*p in it but this year I discovered proper mineral makeup and it's great, no reactions so far and my skin likes to wig so there's something good in that for sure.

anyway must sleep

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi,
hope you all had a good, if rather chilly weekend. We went to view the expensive venue and I was not particularly impressed. My expectation of what we would get for that price was along the lines Lorraine mentioned. They would not reduce it as they only have one set of caterers and we had already picked the cheapest one!! LOL. It was £6 per guest for just the nibbles with the drinks.Ouch! It was a beautiful listed house and you get the whole place, all the bedrooms, a really fab cottage for the bride and groom, exclusive use of everywhere. So it looks like that one has been knocked off the top spot unlesss we have a smaller number of guests. My side of the family is fine as I have the biggest family and the only children but it would mean chopping a lot off the groom's side. Tricky one, not inviting people to the wedding!! likely to start a war off. So we are off to visit 2 more next week and hope to find a compramise that we can afford and they like!! I said the one today was the most expensive tent I had ever been in!!! Lorraine that price was for melon, chicken roast and a dessert, no wine or drinks in that part. i think the caterers were either out of this world or rip off merchants. I am the practical one who wants to cover all the cost of the wedding, honeymoon, clothes, everything so they don't have to borrow any money. Victor (not living up to the name!) wants her to have everything she wants for it to be perfect. Trouble is she has 3 siblings who we would have to do the same for. Tricky stuff families, we try so hard to do the same for everyone as much as we can. I have trouble getting up as quickly too now and feel I could fall if I bend right over to do up a shoe. I thought I might start swimming if I can find a ladies only night somewhere with a nice warm pool. Do you know how long after rads before you can swim? Mine is still burning a lot so might have to phone the rads hospital tomorrow to see what other cream I can use. Aqueous is not touching it, apart from being cold to apply.
I am off to try to win a million now to solve the wedding fund predicament!

hi everyone

i worked so hard to clean up before christmas, and now everythings upside down again, why do we bother? anyone finding they ache so much at times its hard to get up off the floor i sometimes feel theres no strength in my body. i now the weight(that horrid word again!) isnt helping but some say the tamoxifen doesnt help either. i find it hard when im at work, but i want to stick at it, because i belief you need to move for it to get better.
i go to see onc next week, i bet he'll say lose some blob if i tell him, because he did recommend i kept my eye on my weight, because of my bone situation.
i have kept my eye on it, but it they saw the food first and theres no competition. im so weak willed! at the moment im mad on noodles ive been making chow mein, i bet thats megga fattening. aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

lily 2000

have you won the lottery? £100 a head what would you be eating? caviar, smoked salmon, lobster or something even more luxurious. or are you having some mega celebrate serving it up. (maybe beckam) now that would be worth paying for!
whats the poshest thing youve ate? ive never tried caviar have you. ive never even fancied it, nor lobster i dont even eat prawns. i can just imagine you lady of the manor. with delicate little sandwiches and such like. oh to live like a queen.!

Lisa hope everything goes well with the surgery, are you nervous? i am a coward would love a recon but only had other ops because it was life or death. you are so brave. but it will be well worth it.

hope you doing ok.?

new year new adventures, i expect to hear lots of exciting tales. cant wait.

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi,
well I thought the venue we saw today, was wonderful for the wedding but the others seem to have reservations about it. I loved the long drive up, the huge house and all the tall ceilings and classical rooms. My daughter wants a more cosy venue like a barn type setting (Angie can we book yours for 2010?) so we are off to see her number one choice tomorrow. It is over double the price of the first one so will have to cut costs elsewhere I guess. They have visited all the top venues within driving distance so I think that might have made it harder to settle for less now. I am amazed that a barn is more than a classical house but I guess the fashions change with each generation. I looked at the brochure and it was well over £100 per person just for food - so I guess there will be a major cut on the guest list for this one. They want £20 a bottle of wine!! I bet it is average stuff too. We are in big trouble if our youngest decides to get married soon as well!! I would say I'll have to sell my body but looking at it, might be better to send Victor out instead!!! LOL. mY burn underneath is driving me mad today and trying very hard not to forget and itch it - yoweeee. Everyone I have shown it to (not many in case you were wondering!!) thinks it looks really dark and oooohs in sympathy. Any good tips to cool it down, I only have aqueous cream?
Hi Ruth happy new year to you. Angie I love your ' village life' tales, it reminds me of Midsummer murders, except without the multiple murders!!! Sounds like the old landlady would have been a suitable case! HRT sounds dodgy to me, can you do anything with fruit and veg instead??? I have a natural remedies book, will try to look it up for you and see if anything useful. Lisa sounds like you are doing well in menopause so far and hope it stays like that for you. I have had no hot flushes but have just started my new pack of pills so will see how they go. By the way Angie my new nolvadex is made by another company and look very different from the first, so perhaps that explains it. I guess if enough ladies demand nolvaldex, otherr suppliers will start producing it and hopefully the price will drop so everyone can have it. We can but hope.
Lisa, wow a lot of appointments! I am putting off the dentist for now as lost my nerve once again. It was bad enough the GP stabbing me with the flu jab. I really feel for you having to now think about another big op. We will all be dead jealous though when you post to tell us you have 2 new boobs and a flat tummy too. I am assuming you would pick that recon? In the long term the recon may make you feel more confident and happy with how you look and you can then throw the blob and ratty away. I think it depends on your circumstances though as many women are happy to go without a recon. Good luck with your decision anyway.
Lorraine I had to laugh because everyone who posted has decided to lose more weight!! I said 2 stone but really should be more if I am realistic as rather short. You owned up to the biggest figure so are cakes off the menu or are you like me, waiting for the right time!!!! My excuse is that I have to eat up what is already in the house!!

hi everyone

good that youve all found five minutes to stop and take a breather, and keep in touch with each other. it certainly helps to keep us going i think. everyone i meet at moment seems to be on a diet, i just dont seem to have the inclination, even though i need to lose about 31/2 stone, im trying to eat more sensibly but as far as cutting things out completly im not ready for that yet. has anyone found they are a little more tired than usual over christmas, i will be glad to settle down again.

nicky i hope hair fades to a colour you like, i think i need a trip to the hairdressers soon, but mine doesnt look to bad if i spike it all up (well so people tell me anyway)

anyone else being frivolous with money i just seem to want to enjoy spending at the moment, but i will need to slow down soon.

lily 2000
how exciting a wedding to plan, i think i would just leave the planning to them and just enjoy the celebration, i used to like organising but im getting lazy.

congrats Lily on the finished of rads - youve done it!!
Lorraine love the manequin story
Nicky - glad you managed a little tipple and to everyone else hope you are well.
Angie - I used to read far to much so dont now as freak out very easily. Mine cancer was 8/8 hormone sensitive had had read lots of horrow stories about being plunged into early menopause - Im maybe early on in it but my op was in October and touch wood had few symptoms, yes put weight on but to be honest that could have been my eating and drinking habits, few aches and pains and few sweats but nothing as bad as I anitipcated (touch wood).

New Years resolutions start on Monday.
Loose 3 stone
Walk pooch more
Try not to worry tooooo much

Well, I have 5 appointments booked in already - dentist (first time in year boo hoo), boob check up, mamogram, gyni check up - all go, would like to forget about it all for a bit but suppose have to start thinking about nuther masectomy and reconstruction - hairs stand on end when I think of it!!!

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Oh I had a huge hangover today... now that the crowds have left we went to the pub for the first time in ages and left at 11 but having had a few vodka and lemonades. Still it was fun and the new landlady and landlord are nice, unlike the previous one... you know the one who thought me doing chemo and wearing buffs was some kind of fashion statement (If I had a pair of clippers and access to her bedroom... nah I'm not that cruel). So Cruella (her nickname now) has moved to another pub but had the nerve to email me and ask for the password to change the website of the pub next door... that's right, the one they no longer run. Seems that they wanted to sell our website to the new landlords. I said No of course. but wow what a cheek and what horrible people. Glad they're gone.

One of the ladies I was chatting to at the pub last night is going in to Edinburgh next week to have some pre cancerous cells removed from her ducts, so I talked her through what all of that means and apparently seeing me laughing about the place has made her a bit less scared of what that means now so that's good.

The whole village already knows that we're moving up the road to the barn, and another local who used to live in the barn has sold me and tommy on how to lay it out too. It's very weird living in a place where at least 4 locals have lived in a building your moving to .. yet again. About 6 locals have lived in our current place before us.

Nicky... How on earth did nigella design a bad fondue! We use emmental, white wine, cornstarch and brandy in ours. At least we did until my stomach rejected me after rads, now it's fruit and nuts (and I don't mean Cadburys either Smiley Wink How's your rads recovery going now, all back to normal? My Hair has now also reached the length that it's not lying straight anymore, it's still straight, it's just not lying.

I've started on my natural alternatives to HRT book and had to just close it and get out of bed it freaked me a bit too much. There's one set of circumstances that she recommends seriously considering HRT and that's if you have oophrectomy and are plunged in at too young an age... basically like me and Lisa gulp. But that's not an option for me... is it for you Lisa or were you hormone sensitive too.

Hopefully the rest of book is a bit more cheery!

Lots of love to you all and I hope you're enjoying this ferezing new year.

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi all - including Joanne. This is a bit spooky as in my post from yesterday I was going to ask where you were - I'm sorry I didn't now, you certainly hadn't been forgotten. Hope you are doing well and avoiding this forum for all the right reasons.
OH, youngest and I went to London yesterday to exchange a pashmina (oooh, get me!) that my eldest had got me for Christmas, I wanted a deeper colour than the one she had chosen. Then shuffled our way up (and down) Oxford Street, which was awful and way too busy. Went off to the slightly less crowded New Bond Street and window shopped in all the jewellers - amazing stuff and so unaffordable. Also managed to get some lovely coloured tops from UniQlo which were reasonable and some skinny jeans (1st ever but need them to tuck into my new boots) surprisingly they did fit and I didn't look like a denim sausage!
Disaster struck twice at home though. Hair dye I'd bought so I can confidently 'go commando' turned me more ginger rather than a subtle browny-red. Then realised it was a permanent colour not semi-perm, ahhhhhhhhhh! Then had to put on a dark brown which has covered most of the red but is now much darker than I wanted to be so not sure now if I'll ditch wiggie. It certainly is NOT making me confident to bare all at home, social and most importantly work. May have to go and see my lovely hairdresser and see if he can put it right. Plus my new hair sticks up all over the place, if it was flatter I'd be much happier but I do not want to look like a fluffy loo brush any more.
Second disaster was Nigella's cheese fondue - way too strong a taste (even though we're used to fondues) so not a successful new recipe or evening meal in fact!
Hope to have a better day today but it's a big clear up day and decorations can come down and everything can be back in it's right place - yes, that's the Monica in me!
Have a good weekend everyone, nice and frosty here so should be going for a walk in a short time.
Nicky xx

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi,
Joanne you little devil, how are you? What is happening with you now? Hope you are well and enjoying time oof chemo, etc.
Nicky, well it was 11 to dinner so really crowded round the table and arms everywhere trying to test everything on the table. We had crackers again as little chap just loves us all to wear hats! Jokes get no better! Well done for growing enough hair and enjoy all the patting!!!
Tomorrow I am going to look at one of the shortlisted venues for the wedding so very excited to be doing something, even if it is a long way off yet. My cheeky SIL to be said it would give me and his Mum plenty of time to diet!!!! I am more worried about having plenty of hair and being well! He is lovely but very independent and is determined that they are going to have the wedding they want. It makes me laugh when people try to tell him what they should do and even give their opinion on who should be bridesmaids, because he just says 'it won't happen.' He is much sweeter to me and just gives me his little look if I get too carried away. I can't help it, I am just too excited for words.Although I realised that with her 2 sisters being bridesmaids, brother being an usher and Dad giving her away - I am on my own!!!! Not sure where I am going or how! Anyone know what happens to Mother of the bride? I think I must be moving on because I started sorting out rubbish today and throwing things away. Recycling is full to the brim and bin bags at strategic positions for collection now. I am not a tidy person so this is unusual behaviour for me. Hubby said 'well done', that is how unusual it is. LOL.
Lorraine I wish!!! Not sure I can afford Jamaica for some time with current low pay and Christmas and the wedding. I would not be surprised if the youngest announced a wedding too at the moment!!! Yikes! I am battling my son to revise for his first A levels this week, not very successfully I have to say. As soon as he opens the book he starts yawning like mad.

can you believe it, 2 days of the new year gone already, time goes so quick, i mean look how quick last year past, even with all the rubbish we went through.

lily good idea the trial in one respect, like you say at least theirs someone to ask if you have any concerns.and talking of holidays, you could take one to jamaica now, as youve finished your ordeal! at least you could have matching boobs then.

nicky 08

i bet your enjoying a tipple or two? i like you dont look forward to scans but not really because of the outcome, i just hate the procedure, and generally feel crap after that dye stuff. but i may ask for one, cos at least it gives you reasurance (hopefully). i feel positive about how the cancer is doing, but maybe im just in denial? it works anyway, i enjoy every moment of every day, so no point in worrying.

sorry i cant remember everyones names to write individually, but i hope your all keeping well, and like lily said its been great to have the opportunity to be in touch with some lovely people who i class as friends now.

take care god bless you allx

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi all
Lily - I meant to add my congrats to you finishing rads. At least you do get a followup pretty soon plus regular contact after which will help reassure you. After my 1st dx I felt quite abandonned as you don't see anyone for 3 months, then it goes to every 6 months. Hope your evening went well, dinner for how many? I barely made the evening as I was soooo tired and ended up in bed at 8pm (reading for a while 1st) and off to sleep by 9! Did need it though and feel much more with it today.
Lorraine - your fancy dress sounds great - especially the teeth in the glass bit! My youngest went to a fancy dress recently as an old lady and her sister did the special effects makeup on her so she looked really old. All her friends couldn't believe it! She also had the popsocks down by her ankles and droopy petticoat.
Angie - I'm now expecting the stroke the hair bit as I'm going without the wig from today - couldn't quite face it yesterday - yikes! Need to give it another colour as my grey bits at the front are showing through after the semi-permanent colour has rinsed off. Need to go a richer, shinier colour so out to get some today.
Lisa, Julia,Bev and everyone else have fun and take care
Nicky xx
ps next appt to see a Dr/onc is 12th Feb, think it's just a followup to my mini rads but could be that I get some scans before then and this will be results day - in which case I won't be looking forward to it at all!

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi,
beetroot booby reporting again!!! well the spots have gone but I look like I have been to Jamaica for 3 weeks now!! I wouldn't mind if I had the holiday too! I hope it is calming down now. Sorry don't want to put you off Julia, just keep blasting the aqueous cream on whenever you think of it. I have a tube of it so took mine in and applied it in the changing room each time before leaving. Good luck with yours, it is quite bizarre lying there when everyone runs out the room and first the warning sirens and then the mega loud buzzer goes off. Nothing unpleasant just made me jump out my skin each time.
Not sure what type of swimwear would cover my brown rectangular patch. I still had the blue dyed skin from the SNB so it has mixed with the red and gone a sort of fossilised green now!!!! Very fetching I must say. Hope the surgeon does not think I have a gangrene boob!!!LOL. My appointment is the 12th so good job I checked the date. Think it is a touchy feely check and look at the surgery site, which is almost invisible now so he will be pleased with himself. Shame I met Zorro when I went across to the cardio vascular team, who wrecked his careful tunnelling work!
Lorraine thanks you have picked up exactly the thoughts running through my head. It is the reassurance I will miss but that was one of the reasons for going on the trial, so I had more medical contact, knew this would be a wobbly bit for me for a while. Fantastic costume, wish I could have seen you. How is Victor now? Also so sorry to hear about your back pain, be careful. Angie nice break till Feb for you. Are the moving plans going well? Nicky hope you will share the new dishes with us so we can be envious. I am going to try really hard to enjoy lettuce next year!!! Boooo.
Lisa your hair colours were amazing, laughed at your Mum's story at the christening.

well done girl! it seems so strange when everything comes to an end doesnt it? you are relieved, scared, excited and miss the reasurrance you get while going through treatment. i too was unsure about getting back to work, will i manage my energy levels? what if i need time off? and loads of other things. but i just decided to go for it, and see what happens, theirs nothing we cant handle after what weve been through! and the feelings are their even if its not about work, (must be the hormones) and i still have occasional horrid thoughts of what this disease might mean, but i just throw them away and walk on enjoying everyday.

what a shame you didnt enjoy new years eve, but theres plenty more ahead, and at least you had your tipple you enjoy. we had a great time, people thought it was hilarious when i turned up as a granny, i couldnt keep my false teeth in and talk at the same time, so they ended up in my glass. i wasnt very glamorous, badly applied make up, granny clothes (petticoat below me skirt, stockings down my ankles, grey hair (not all mine ) headscarf, cushion up back to provide my hump and walking stick, but it was worth it to make everyone laugh.

really like the new thread name, well done! and best wishes for 2009 everyone i havnt mentioned.

need to go and feed my belly, (well dont need to, but going to,) so i will speak to you all later and remember to enjoy each and everyday, its up to us.

take care. x my next appointment is 14th Jan,

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi,
I had quite a quiet night in with our American cousin (who announced that he had to be at the airport before 5.30 am on New Years Day!!!), hubby, BIL and my Grandson. Our other visitors came down with chest infections and heavy colds and stayed away. Little chap vomited all over me (chocolate flavoured) at 3 am so not exactly a big celebration, to say the least! Everyone else phoned in to shout happy new year from their various parties. I had some champagne from a fab Harrods hamper that arrived from relatives for christmas, so quite relaxed but nowhere near hangover territory as having 11 here for dinner tonight and I need my brain to function as well as post chemo allows. Woke up with a red spotty, sore chest and some discomfort from the rads. Strange that it is bothering me after the event, the nurse said you are like a microwave, you will keep cooking and peak 7 - 10 days after finishing. Youch hope it does not get too much worse. Still its done so all the rest is time to get back to normal. Work is looming - argghhh and hooray, can't decide. Went to get some more novaldex tablets and very pleased my Gp said yes to them and allowed himself to be bullied into giving me 2 monthe prescriptions. Told hime I was still trying to talk myself into a flu jab before going back into school. so he dashes off gets one and stabs me in the arm before I know it!! No side effects so far just a lump. I think it might be quite a while since he gave anyone an injection, threw it like a dart at me!!
So Happy new year everyone and lets shut the door on 2008.
My new motto is Smiley Happy
'it doesn't matter where I am, its who I am with that counts.'
My resolutions are
1. to loose 2 stones
2. to do a small amount of regular exercise
3. to remember the dark places I have been and be happy with less than I used to
4. to keep a sensible work/home balance and keep time for me/ the family.
5. to be happy

Come on, so when is your next appointment?? Mine is Jan 9th for a 9 month check with the surgeon.(Some things don't change, do they)

Heya Ladies...

Wow what a night.

First things first... Congrats Lily on finishing the rads and making it all the way to this new year and new thread... woohoo.

We went to the pub next door. Too hot had to leave. Then the other pub... where they were demonstrating the act of enforced fun. ie crap music very very loud... conversations went like this... Hi... EH....I said Hi... CAN'T HEAR YOU.... WOW NICE HAIR... thanks... CAN I STROKE IT.... sure... WOW IT'S LIKE PUPPY FUR. I was stroked by at least 5 people (all good friends)... then we decided we didn't need to noise and heat and left, we cooled down in about 20 secs in the minus 7 that it was outside.

Then we got home and turned out jools's hootenany and was just in time to see Annie Lennox doing Why... that was it I'm not sure who blubbed first but I think even the dog did a bit. What an amazing performance really she was stunning. Sent a shiver it really did. sniff.

Hardly drank really, no hangover this morning at all, that's a first for me.

Anyway I'd best go do my email now and leave you all to recover...

new years resolutions... well I quit smoking last year so that just leaves:

More Fun
Less Stress.

Smiley Happy

Love to you all

Re: Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi
Wow - we're here on our new thread! Happy New Year to one and all. Have the hangover from Hell, which in a way must be good as at least it means I had a (yep, just the 1!, OK you can say liar liar pants on fire)) drink last night! The evening was a disaster - 'luxurious' meant 'from Iceland' ! Disco meant 'music up loud' ! Cancelled our 1.30 am taxi and got a lift back earlier with one of our friends who wasn't drinking. Mistake was continuing to drink when we all got back to ours so went to bed at 4am and woke up with headache, hmmmm, do I really want to drink more than last year as a NY resolution? Basically the night summed up my year - cr@p - so, onwards and upwards. Hope all of your New Years were better and you had a great time, BTW we still enjoyed ourselves as we were with good friends who have seen us through this (or should I say last?) year.
OK, New Year Resolutions:
To drink more than last year! (being tee total for so much of it means this is the 1st year I've ever said that)
To try at least one new recipe each week (my youngest will spur me on for that one - we've got loads to get through)
To go for a long walk at least twice a week (work and weather permitting)
To remain positive - goes with the territory
To seize the day

Love to you all and huge thanks for being there (and here) for me. Hope we all keep in touch even though BC shouldn't be ruling our lives and totally understand if anyone needs to move on and get off this website ;-)
Happy 2009
