Oh my Lisa, I can't believe how many trips and treats!!! I am speechless and green with envy of course. I saw jersey Boys on Broadway in New York, when we were in the US and loved it.I didn't understand a lot of the jokes as hadn't even heard of Jersey Shore and how the Americans view that. The music was brilliant though and bouncing about in my seat to the songs. Sounds like you will be busy then to fund it. Not that it will be a problem when you are so clever at making things. Another cough? You know a lot of coughs are caused by reflux or acid during the night. If you think that might be the case, see the gp or do you still have any ranitidine left from chemo days? I still get some but its only needed occasionally like when someone insists on eating out very late. That's my permanent side effect. My gp takes it himself all the time, so a very general treatment. Tut is rubbish or junk, things you don't reallyneed, lying around the house. I specialise in it 😉 What's everyone up to this weekend? During the week Victor and I took mum and her friend out for the day, to the seaside. It was really warm as we found a sheltered spot. Cod and chips by the sea and then a 99 cornet, what could be better? Nick, hope the weather holds so you can be out and about over the next few days Lily xx
Hi everyone, Firstly to Nicky, I thought you sounded like you took the delay well. Brilliant to look for the positives ie another nice weekend 🙂 . At first it sounds like a pain in the neck going 2 days in a row. However having had a reaction, when given 3 drugs together I can see how it would make sense so they can make any necessary adjustments from the start. Several of the drugs can affect the heart so I think it a very wise choice to space them out, good for your confidence too. Hopefully you will sial through and can get on an 'all in one' dose next time. When I had a reaction to cyclophosphamide, they just gave me iv piriton and slowed the drip speed, nothing very technical!! Loved the piriton as I snoozed through the whole lot. I looked up some of your drugs and can see that the perjeta and herceptin attack the HER2 protein on the bc cells in different ways, so 2 kicks up the bc backside at the same time. That must be like pulling your sword out the hilt and the opposition has a machine gun 😉 . Anyway have some fun over the weekend 🙂
What is everyone else up to? I guess it will not be a bank holiday in France for you Carole. We have our newest little baby having his christening, so very nice weekend to look forward. Victor managed to fit it in befofre a quick business trip. Lisa when is your next holiday? I just can't keep up with this jet setting! So jealous! Bev I'm sure it will be a busy weekend at work but hopefully you can escape for a while. Better buzz off as trying to move my sleep hours back ready for work 😞 Lily xxx
Hi everyone. Just a quick post to Nicky. Just wanted to say I will be thinking of you and hoping that things go as well as possible, given that its public poisoning 😞 Good to be having an army of new weapons kicking the bc up the backside. Crap to have the first dose nerves but after this one you will be much more aware of what to expect. Is someone going with you? Are the docs aiming to use your port this time or will you see on the day, how it has healed? I don't know if you remember but they had to use my veins for the first time as the port hadn't quite settled enough and I had a new type with no edges to guide them in (great plan that was, to buy a batch without them). Everyone else I know since then, has had them used immediately without any issues at all, so hoping that happens. I agree you need to be prepared but also don't need to dwell too much on the side effects. I can tell the toilet jokes are all going to be repeated!! Be sure to moan as I can deal with that but going quiet makes antenna go jumpy! Look after yourself and plan to up the protein in your diet as you will need a lot to keep your strength and stamina. Keep munching those foods that help the blood counts too, were you eating nuts last time? Always here with you and lean as much as you like love Lily xxxx
Hi ladies
Great News Bev - you can look forward to a very big celebration this weekend - enjoy
Lisa - back from hols and another one already planned - a girl after my own heart! Hope the next one is less pre-teen sulkyness and more aren't-we-having-a-great-time-ness. Hope work is not catching up with you too much and you are in good form.
Carole - lovely to have had so many visitors this summer - hope they are helping you out as you've only just recovering from a major op - make sure you let them know!
Lily - lovely to hear how the babies are doing and the ones that are still cooking! I expect you are having a lovely summer break away from teaching and getting to see them a lot.
As to my chemo it should be happening at the end of the week. 3 weekly as before, but a whle host of different SEs to cope with - or so I have read. I've tried not to read too much about them though as you never know who has suffered badly and who hasn't so it's difficult to say how I will feel. I may or may not be putting much about it on here but may have a moan from time to time - I'm sure I will! And, if I'm even more quiet than usual don't worry, as you know ffrom before there are days when you don't even want to communicate let alone chat about it. Lots of hospital appointments again this week but hopefully all checked off and ready to go - or as ready as I ever will be.
Have a good weekend everyone - I'm not expecting mine to be as good!
Nicky x
That's sweet Carole thank you x. We missed your French day to day events. How are all the animals now? It must have been so lovely having all the visitors but extra sad saying goodbye each time 😞 How do you cope? I would be in tears each time. Well the next babies are due later in the year and one could be at Christmas, so still cooking nicely at the moment. Littlest one is 7 months now and the sweetest dearest little chap. If you speak to him, his whole face lights up and he beams. Even when having his bottle, he has to keep stopping to give a big milky grin and then gets stuck in agin. He is a big boy but very mobile and determined when he sees anything he likes the look of. So we have to watch anything left around by the older ones. He eats absolutely everything and munches grapes, cheese, bread, carrots, anything that comes his way.
Well I* had a quiet day with no littles around so I managed to get a lot of work done as well as sorting 6 big bags of old tut for the charity shop. Back to babysitting tomorrow for MD, who will be leaving work in a few months on maternity leave. The girls look so cute and glamourous in their maternity clothes. I always think pregnant people look so beautiful until the very very end when they have had enough and want to get it over and done with. We have to work out what we will buy for the latest ones. I try to be politically correct and do the same for them all but sometimes my memory plays tricks and I forget what I have given one. They never forget!! On their first baby we buy one of the bigger items that can be used for all their family. After that I buy a smaller item like a new moses basket or high chair, depending on what they need to replace. Well better buzz off to bedfordshire. i bought a new duvet set and for some unknown reason. it is so snug, it sends me straight off to sleep, for a change. Hugs Nicky for your first dose. After that you will know what to expect and when, which always makes you feel more in control, I feel. Lisa how many holidays are you having??? Very jealous. Bev hope you are still smiling 🙂 Love to all Lily xxxx
Hello all, I'm having quick moment before ED, little miss and SIL arrive tomorrow. August has been a busy month, YD has been busy working everyday, it's been lovely having so many visitors, but exhausting! Still, not complaining. Weather could have been better, far too cloudy and cold for August in the Dordogne.
Nicky, I hope the soreness has gone from the port, it will make chemo easier and like Lily said, hopefully it will be relatively side effect free and effective. If nauseated, ask for the suppositories on top of everything else, they work wonders. Lots of hugs for what you face ahead, we are here for you xx
Lisa I loved your photos of Salou, what a pity to be back at work straight after, still you have NY to look forward to.
Fantastic news Bev, really pleased for you.
Lily, you never make mundane comments you are a mind of information to us all and we love you for it! It can't be long now to the next baby arrival? (And then the next ha ha).
Well that's it from me for a few days. Love to all buddies Carole xxxx
Hi everyone. Lisa glad to hear from you. What is all this about a stroppy 12 year old? We were sure you were with Robbie Williams 😉 Let us know all about it. Sorry about dentist part but its allover and fine now. I think I eed to join you in this big diet as I am at a complete standstill, as I keep eating out. Of course I can never turn down dessert! Nicky you haven't said which the big day is so I will send hugs and all my best wishes for a very effective chemo that is minimal on side effects to you. Don't forget to keep a diary so you know which days to plan in and which to be out and about enjoying yourself. Also the old toilet issue and keep on top of any problems before they become terrible. Will be thinking of you love Lily xxxxxxxxxx
Hooooooooray, congratulations Bev, that's wonderful news, well done. As I said tests are scary but when you get a good result, it is invaluable and just gives your confidence such a boost. Now try to relax and do lots of nice things. Enjoy your bbq day love Lily xxx
Hi everyone, hope you are ok and not being constantly rained on like us in the south. A ridiculous amount of rain and more thunder than I have heard in the last 10 years. I had taken mum out and we got trapped in a shop and were forced to have cake and tea/coffee until it cleared up. You know ladies of a certain age cannot chance going out in rain or their curls are lost! Well last week's posts had over 800 views!! Can you believe it? We are one big family all looking out for each other 🙂 Please feel you can post, it doesn't have to be clever, important, mind numbingly funny - just ask the buddies, it never stopped me from mundane waffling. When we need to we all lean on each other too.
So to find out :- you press the 'reply' button and up pops this box to type into. Below it you can see just the one post you hit reply to. Scroll down and at the bottom below your name, it says 'report imappropriate content'. The number of views is below that if you are interested or curious.
Nick they were just practising on my neck to perfect their technique for you 😉 . It is quite long but they made it in the natural crease that appears around your neck as you age so fairly well hidden unless you are looking for it. Paper stitches eh!!! Probably just wanted to reassure you that none to be removed later? So what shade of bird are you now - a blue tit or moved to green and yellow? Poor old you. I too am surprised there is no central sharing of info, unless it increases the security risks. Fantastic comment he made about the mets, I am liking him very much 🙂 . Keep us posted on your start dates etc. Is it 3 weekly? How long does each lot take, I know herceptin is a quick one? Good plan to copy your current hair as it will make it much easier to blend in with the crowd and help to avoid curious people's questions. Is the cat safe this time;)? Never underestimate the power of a fried breakfast before chemo, especially eggs. I think they protect the stomach lining so it doesn't twitchy and start nausea. Lucky you are not near enough for me to drag you into a cafe and buy you one next week! Get the meringues ready 🙂 I know it sounds odd but with the prof's comments, I can't help feeling very excited about getting this chemo started for you. Biggest hugs Lily xxxx
Hi Lily
I'll have to have a go at that button - can't see it at the moment but I'm probably not looking in the right place. How lovely that people follow us, hadn't really thought anyone would but as you've said, anyone is welcome to join in. As they can see it's not a highbrow thread , just chit chat.
Wow - your slice across the neck sounds severe! I only have a tiny scratch on my collar bone so I guess we didn't have the same thing. That is healing fine and I've just taken off the paper stitches they put on to hold it together - otherwise known as steri strips (so I have no idea why they told me I was having paper stitches!) A lot of brusiing to the boob but they said it would spread downwards, which it has, not a lovely sight at all.
Yes, I did see the same Prof as last time and this time he didn't scare me as much! He had a very detailed report and copies of the recent scans so he didn't need anything else. What constantly surprises me is that nhs hospitals don't share data - only those in the same trust - how odd and how wasteful for printing and time wasting! In fact (without jinxing things here) he said he thought the liver mets would be ablated with the chemo - so here's hoping. I have an echo this week and an extra appt at the heart hospital at my request. Otherwise expect to start later next week. Lots of appts up to then though so it will really ram it home. I'm not going for anything drastic for the wiggy look, just a good copy of my current hairstyle so I can pop into local shops etc without facing a barrage of questions or stares. Otherwise I will wear other coverups that seem so much nicer than last time. As to the breakfast I have no idea how you ever did that each time! I don't think I will be changing my habits but we all rememeber how sweet toothed we all got - or I did - the rest of you had a sweet tooth beforehand!
so ta ta for now and hi to Carole, Lisa and Bev - hope all is well with you.
Nicky x
Hi everyone,by the way, have you noticed that when you click on the reply button, it tells you how many people have viewed each post? It clocked over 100 on one of yours Nick (ooh to be so famous 😉 ) Anyway that led me to think that maybe I should extend our invitation for anyone to pop in and say hello whenever they want, which is something that we have always done on this thread. We really really like to say hello, especially when everyone gets bored of my waffling. Hope all is going well with you right now.
Carole nice to have you pop up again, no doubt been busy having lovely long chats with your family x.
Nick many thanks for the superbly long post with lots for me to read, you know I like to keep up to pace with you, as you all did with me when I was in a different stage. Brave girl for being awake although hopefully the sedative meant you were no more than a willing victim 😉 Sounds like you had the same thing then as I have a scar of about 3 inches that looks like jack the Ripper got me round the neck. It is faint but not faint enough for me to ignore it in the mirror. The one on my chest is much smaller, just over an inch but wider with a hole under it where they took the port out! Maybe leave ahand towel or similar in the car to put under the seat belt to cushion it, but that will improve fast. Didn't know about the kinks according to the siting of the port, mine was rubbish then. The twit put mine right on top of where the tumour was so itsright over one side and was right where the rads needed to go, hence its removal.
Really glad the 2 sets of bc bods agreed this time and the funding is fast so I'm sure it will be done on time. Did you see the same prof for the 2nd opinion? Do they do more scans, etc or just review the stuff from the local team? I guess it would all be available digitally. What day is the chemo to start? Can I suggest a big breakfast to line the tum and drinking loads on the day, not that you don't already know this 😉 3rd chemo chat!!! Its true you are a celebrity. Just joking, that's brilliant that they are fussing you and giving you tlc. Are your bc team all permanent staff now? I had forgotten about your water issue! So wig talk, what style and colour have you picked so I can imagine how you look now? Was it the waist length blond, spikey red head or long dark curls or maybe a shorter style? All those hair jokes are coming back to me!! Anyway you always look glam, so no change there. Antenna feels really bouncy and happy about getting started with the new regime. I agree totally the way to go. Of course I will naturally move from 'go for it' mode to 'total sympathy for being on chemo' once it starts. Fingers crossed it will kick a... for the cells but be manageable for you x . I know the heart side will be on your mind but you are all tested out and this is day to day stuff for them, so they will have seen this before and know when the time is right, which is right now. Oh I do love afternoon tea, what cakes did they have? Such a lovely treat. Will you be at the weddings too or is it her friends? Better buzz off now. Lisa keep having fun x . Bev how's the business this summer? Love to all readers Lily xxxxx
Hi all, only a quick one, will try to catch up over the weekend, love to all Carole xx
Hi Dr Lily
In answer to your questions, no, it was under a local anaesthetic and a mild sedattive so awake throughout! All over and done with in about 15 mins and I also have two dressing sites so although it's not a central line it does go into a main vein - or maybe that is a central line? Annoyingly the top, smaller scar/cut is on my collar bone just as my seat belt sits on it. A bit ouch at the moment and I'm also getting used to the lump, also as my seat belt cuts across that as well, hmmm. Having said that they did explain that the shorter the catheter part and the less kinks in it the better it would work, so siting it firther away from the middle isn'r so successful, especially as I will (hopefully!) have it in for long term use rather than just eh chemo cycles. My second opinion went well and backed up what the local team said but, as there had been a question from the local team about my acceptability (on criteria) for the funded drug the Prof was able to say that there shouldn't be a problem as a precedent had already been set for someone in my position. Now just have to make sure the funding request gets in before I start chemo, which is due to happen next week but watch this space. Sleeping is fine but, like you found, I doubt I'll ever sleep on my front again Most of my tops are OK as well which is good as I thought it would be very obvious (and it is if it's exposed) but it's not that noticeable unless you're staring at my chest! Had my 3rd (yes, third) chemo chat yesterday but really to find out the differences this time around which was useful. Hooray, no boiling of water now - I used to hate that and it was only something our area had to do due to micro organisms sometimes appearing in our water supply but I guess they've sorted that out now. Plus a visit to the wig and hat lady! Quite happy with wah't now available as there are some much nicer designs in jersey material for the coverings so I think (I hope) I will look quite glam and not a bad hair day in sight! So, a very medical time this week, last week and then from next week onwards
but I'm approaching it in a positive way
as a means to get Herceptin and Pertuzamab rather than a desperate attempt with chemo.
Other than all the medical stuff I had a lovely day on Tues with ED as she had bought me a voucher for afternoon tea for Mothers Day and we hadn't got round to using it. So, we put that to good use and did a few other girly things which we both enjoyed. She's off work this week doing her first bridesmaid duty of the year, the second one is a bit later on. It's lovely for her to have been asked but, boy, do all the extras add up! Hen do's, hotel stays, nails, shoes and thats without her having to get her hair and makeup done as she can do those herself. Just as they are saving for their first house, which they are hoping to get moving on in the next few months. Busy, busy, busy!
We were lucky with no tree or buildings damage last weekend but it was very windy and very wet at times. Just needing some bits of outside tidying up to be done at the moment so busy getting a few quotes in before the bad (worse?) weather arrives and nothing will get done. All bits we can't really do otherwise we would - and save the money for something better to spend it on!
Hi to everyone else, hope all is well with you all.
Speak soon
Nicky x
Hi to everyone, how are you all? Bev how is the business going and do you have a date for your next appointment or do you have a break for a while? Carole hoping you are enjoying some quality family time, keep us posted about your visits and trips. Lisa hoping you are having a great time but sorry lost track of when to expect you back! Nick, hoping the port is improving in comfort every day now and that you are sleeping ok with it. Do you have a date for starting chemo yet? Poor Victor is off to have his stitches removed tomorrow, so hoping that will be quick and straight forward as expected. I am having a week full of babysitting and the house has been heaving with my favourite little people. I seem to need more bread every day! the bonus is that I am sleeping very well after running around after them. I am trying to sort the house out a bit in between the littles' visits. Currently attacking the kitchen and trying to clear the work surfaces as much as possible. I am very untidy and tend to leave everything handy. Take care all Lily xxx
Hi Nicky, glad to read you got through the procedure ok, did you have it done by local or general? Mine was a general, maybe because I had a central line in at the same time, so unexpectedly woke up to find my neck opened too and 2 sets of dressings. I didn't want to add to your worry beforehand but I do recall the tenderness and nearly screaming when i thought someone was going for a big hug on day two!! That settles quickly though. Did you have the horrid sensation when you can feel something next to your windpipe, so every time you take a breath? That happens in the first day or two so don't expect it if you escaped that little side effect (hopefully you did). I found it quite odd having a lump in my chest as first and could only settle on my back at night but after some time I found sleeping on my side was ok again. Never could sleep on my front. That will pale into insignificance when you start chemo and know they aren't vein hunting your poor arms. One of my friends had her port used the same day and insisted it was fine but I had mine for a while first, as you will. I think they improve over time and found each chemo easier, which was a good job having two a week apart. I don't think you will regret having it apart from putting up with this first week or so. Don't forget to check as some of these devices need a note from the hospital before you go through security when travelling abroad, with metal in your chest!! Loved the slash tops to the supermarket lol. I thought I was the only one ha ha. My local friend has had drugs from the cancer fund several times now and said they were through in under 48 hours, so worth going after if appropriate. Would it be one they would give you if approved? Have you been for the 2nd opinion yet, did that onc suggest the same regime as your docs? I agree soem of these news stories are inflammatory but I guess they do that on purpose. There have been some very distressing stories of children not given operations so that they can ever walk, posted alongside some cosmetic ops to look like celebrities (if the articles can be believed). Main thing is, as you say, that its all going well and the plan is all starting now. Its not long since they planned to put you off for a while. We had crazy rain and very exciting lightning here. Wondered whether a few more trees would demolish more fence but ok. I guess there are so many gaps now that the wind can sail around the few left standing 😞 A lot of work needed to sort them out, put a new fence up and then plant a new line of trees. I really want to do something to replant traditional trees (for the next generation) and hope to put in sweet chestnut, horse chestnut, hazel with the catkins, copper beech, hornbeam and varieties like that. They cannot go in until November though unless I want to pay about £260 per tree and dig the holes myself and I don't! A level results this week. has anyone got anxious people waiting to hear? Love to all Lily x
Hi, I was just checking in to see if there was any news from you Nick. How has this week gone? I have been thinking about you after reading the latest fiasco over the cost of another new drug and wondered whether they had mentioned appealing to the cancer fund to get it. I gather it has minimal side effects and goes with herceptin. Have you had your port put in this week? If so I hope you are feeling more comfortable love Lily xx
Hi to everyone else, hope you are finding some sun and get ready for the storm tomorrow xxx
Hi,
good news that they agree as it is always so worrying to decide who knows best if they disagree. I am loving millimetres 🙂 My local friend got funding in 48 hours so nag them as it probably depends on how quickly they get the appeal sent in! Check it has gone off tomorrow maybe? Good luck with the port, did you say it is this week? Poor Victor went to the dentist (cross your legs for this one Lisa) to have the final appointment to have a crown fitted. Anyway he also did a few other bits and then decided to extract a big double tooth on the same day. Unfortunately the bone had grown over the root so it was difficult to get out, took ages and he had to have stitches 😞 A very poorly looking Victor arrived home biting on wadding and couldn't speak and had to write me notes to explain what had happened. I would have driven him if we had any warning. I have bought him a stash of painkillers and have been making him soft foods and bough lots of soup. He has to have the stitches removed next week so that's another appointment 😞 Better get off to bed Lily x
Hi
Just a very quick reply to Lily as I'm on the pc for a change.
All good yesterday with second opinion and I was very glad to hear the Prof use the word 'millimetres' as well! Just need to get funding approved for the new drug.
Otherwise OK and will update when I have more time!
Take care all, enjoy the sun if it's still with you.
Nicky xx
Hi Nicky,
well I am glad its all starting to go ahead, as waiting to get something started, in mind is worse than getting on with it. Was the second opinion with the Marsden guy again? Keep me posted what he says. I agree with you, I think he will agree as it is a very current drug regime and therefore likely that they will all think its the best.Glad to hear you are soaking up a few vitamins too. I didn't realise how brown I was until I went out with YD and the babies. She says I am actually orange!! We took the boys around a farm and have a nice day outside with them. I have put on 4lbs but actually thought it would be far worse, so just need to be better in the next few weeks and not order giant meringues with fresh cream like I did yesterday! You are right that it is settling with my brother because hes calmer and getting into the dialysis routine. However, the transplant nurse is now on the case and moving things very quickly. Reading between the lines, what he is saying and a bit of internet search, I don't think he is stabilising at all and I think he might need a transplant sooner than most. What a mix of emotions I have when he talks about it. he has told me it is far worse for the donor and I didn't know if he was telling me something or not. Anyway he is the best possible blood group as he can have anyone's so its now down to tissue type matches. Victor is adamant that it is too risky with my bc andwon't even talk about me having anything else done that isn't essential. Bang goes the tummy tuck then (joking!) Anyway thats the latest with that story. Which day is your op to put the port in? Are they letting you choose between a general or a local? Just ask if I can be of any help with questions on that one. Its a really good idea to have it done. Its just the process of it going in, a few days recovery and then your arm veins will be blessing you for the rest 😉 . Hmm good thinking about checking out with the heart drs. Mine was put in by the cardio surgical team although I understand that the bc plastic surgeons do it now as they were not impressed with the cardio docs stitching so in our area the bc team do the lot now. I am glad the plan is all kicking off now so you can get the benefit of some of these amazing drugs going asap. This is a very good plan xxxxx love tango Lily xx
Hi, oh gosh Lisa I didn't realise you were away now. Have a fab time and forget the rotten diet, you deserve to enjoy yourself. I don't tan quickly either but there was a bit of a breeze and such long days of sun that it was 32-38 degrees all day long, every day. Cyprus is a very sunny spot being close to some very hot countries. Many people were beetroot red but we were careful not to overdo it for the first couple of days.It was nice hearing about all the Greek gods and the stories about them. There were amazing historic ruins and mosaics but so hot to look round them. No sun in the morning means late nights and getting up late then 🙂 have fun Lily x
Hi, well arrived back in the early hours of this morning. We had been anxious after reading of terrible 5 hour delays for suitcases at Gatwick during the previous weekend, but they had sorted it by the time we got there luckily. My body still thinks I am 2 hours ahead and I hope it doesn't wake up for the get a sunbed early start! It was a loveely and very relaxing fortnight and we liked Cyprus very much. The hotel had a lovely pool with islands, waterfalls and bridges so you could swim around them, making it more interesting than the traditional rectangle. The second week got a lot busier but by then we were the bronzed residents who know where everything is and have worked out a good routine/best areas for beds/meal times when its quiet, etc. It was very very hot but you don't seem to feel it so much when you don't have a lot to do and can slide into the pool every hour. The hotel was ina good location right on the beach so my waking view was blue seas and rolling waves every day. That's the bit I will miss most, oh and not cooking. Needless to say the diet is caput. However it was worth it 🙂 The washing mountain hasn't shrunk much as I needed to catch up with mum, my brothers and then my family came in to eat today. Victor couldn't believe how many presents ha had to pack but they all loved them. The 2 baby bumps have grown a lot and have at last let me buy little pressies ready 🙂 Anyway back to your posts. Nicky yes my school closed very early after saving inset days and I think it helps parents to reduce their costs too. I hope to hear they give you some fixed dates soon so you can plan things around them and arrange whatever you need. I'm sure your OH will need some time off to be with you. Have you checked out the expected side effects of this regime or do you prefer to wait and see how it goes for you? Is it another wig job? That's the one that is frustrating when other chemos do not munch hair. Anyway the main thing is that it kicks ass and stabilises your mets to stop any new ones. I remember you had healing on your bone mets before so I feel you are someone who has good results from chemo and its fine tuning which combination will be best for you. Will you have herceptin straight away with the other drugs? Its crap but I also feel a lot of positive energy about them getting started and doing something. I find sitting waiting more stressful than getting on with a highly scientific plan of action. Everything crossed for you buddy as always. Your mindset is brilliant, so keep up the positive vibes, you know I believe its the one medicine we don't pay for but is just as effective x. Carole thank you for all the posts, it was such a lovely fortnight and aforementioned bikinis are all tested and now hanging on the line for next year. What a lovely lovely summer of visits, you will be tired but so happy. keep us posted about them all. Bev I got very excited reading about all your purchases. It must have been a very happy diversion from all the medical stuff. I have to tell you that mammos scare the pants off me too and I still open the envelope anxiously but the buzz and reassurance you get from a good result will keep you sailing in the clouds for some time. Fingers crossed for you too. Lisa cool weather - what's that? Oh I know, its when you accidentally turn the air con unit too low 😉 Sending sun your way x Take care all love a rather brown Lily xx
Hi ladies
Bev - lovely to hear from you and that you've managd to get some of the garden sorted. All those extra jobs seem to take for ages to finish (or start!) so at least you've ticked that one off and can enjoy the rest of the summer - if it comes back! Wow 35C, horrible. I remember what it is like to work in hot offices and it doesn't do anyone any good does it? OH is suffering with his as well so not a happy bunny. Good luck with your mammo, I'm sure all will be well and let us know how the BBQ goes - great idea to celebrate.
Lisa - enjoy the hols, I think these are the chill out ones aren't they? In that case make sure you do! Can't say I'm looking forward to the chemo, who does? But it needs to be done and I will be in good hands. I was due to start it last Feb/March time so I have had a good run with Capecitabine, let's hope this new one finishes the job off! However lots of appointments next week in the run up to starting which I'm not looking forward to at all.
Hi to Carole and Lily, enjoy the sun and pools whever you are.
Nicky xx
Hi Nicky and Lisa, sorry that you didn't manage to hop on a plane somewhere but at least you've had good weather to enjoy at home. Our weather has been a bit changeable, up until yesterday quite warm and I managed a swim for a few days but yesterday and today it hasn't been that warm, either in the pool or out! Hoping for some sun for our visitors, son and grandson first, then niece and her family for a week and then our ED's family so looking forward to all of that.
I might not be able to post much in the next couple of weeks as busy with visitors, but will probably pass by just to check on you all.
Lily hope you had a superfragalisticexpia................. can't remember how to spell it - holiday Love to all xx
Hi ladies
Sorry to have missed your departure Lily - around here they are still at school until Wednesday so I thought you wouldn't be off so soon. No wonder you were panicking about the packing. I just thought you were planning too far in advance LOL. By the time you read this I am sure you will be back and I hope it was a lovely relaxing sunny break - but very hot if I remember where you were off to correctly - phew
Hi to everyone else. Not much going on here except trying to keep cool as the temperature rises. Glad I've not started chemo just yet, sitting in a hot chemo ward pretty much all day is not my idea of fun for every reason. I am waiting for my portacath appointment to come through before starting but if there are lots of delays due to holidays I may see if I need to start and then get it done. Not got an onc appointment until next week so I'm not worried about any delays as I'm still on the Capecitabine but will want to get on with it fairly soon, just to get it over and done with as well as obviously hoping it works it's wonders.
Hope you are all OK and we'll keep this going until Lily returns with stories to tell - all good ones I hope.
Nicky x
See you soon love Lily xxxxx
Lily, lovely words you made me get a lump in my throat! Have a super holiday, the thread will be quiet without you. Don't think about the latest news re airplanes, it's still the much safer way to travel.
Lisa sorry you are having hot flushes again, I sympathise. Is it anything to do with the warm weather?
Nicky, thank you for your kind words, yes i do feel very lonely sometimes and find it hard to cope with, but hoping you are ok?
My tablets haven't kicked in yet, still feel very sick but have been enjoying swimming two or three times a day which I enjoy, and I think helps the lympho arm. I think our weather is set to change, like UK weather so may not be in the pool so much.
Have a good weekend girls, and
Lily have a great holiday, we'll look forward to hearing about it. Love to all xxxx
Hi, hope everyone is ok. Its so hot in school and had the fans going all day but still everyone moaning too hot. Still haven't packed so it will be a last minute job! remembered my travel sickness pills and trying not to read the papers or will get the jitters about flying again. Love Lily x
Hi everyone,
this is such a busy week for me, making sure everything is done, books marked, leaving do's, etc and then off on holiday. Trying to get the dog sorted out, so they don't have to go shopping for food and biscuits, etc while here. Packing is not happening and all out to dinner again today so I must make a determined effort to get stuck in, over the next couple of days. Its been such a mad time, I really will appreciate doing nothing! Carole I think you should be feeling the benefit of the tablets around now as I know they take a while to kick in. I am not surprised either. As much as we hate medical things, after a while they manage to become part of us or our daily life and I think that triggers the jitters when things change or even stop. It raises such different and complex emotions and they affect people so differently. Be kind to yourself x. Your daughter is doing so well and its a credit to you that she has been able to do all of this. It is because you and Nicky too with your girls, have shouldered so much of the worry and not weighed your girls down with the very many worries we have. I think the kids would say 'you sucked it up'! The rewards are great, seeing those lovely girls getting on with their lives and being caring about you still, but being able to move forward in their lives because you don't make them put your lives before theirs. Remarkable thing to do 🙂 Back tp your post Nick, I think the port is a good idea and you just have to look at the long term benefits as its another procedure but small compared to others you have had. You do need to recover for a few days after it, so plan your trips ahead of it. The cardiologists put mine in rather than the bc team. I had a central line put in as well as the port so that might be why he did it. I am surprised they want the final cape but I guess research shows benefits to completing certain amounts, possibly to the ones it has shrunk, do you think? Well done for getting the funding for the drugs and it seems a very exciting new regime, so very glad you are in 🙂 Keep me posted x. My brother is on the transplant list now but has not met the transplant team yet, to find out more. Lisa we need you to be young and frivolous and can you have a fling to distract us a little?? We did so love the pigeoin fancier and the pilot adventures. All my local singles are on internet dating sites these days. Have you tried any? Hi to Bev, as you have been quiet recently. I hope you are ok. Love to all Lily xxx
