Hi Lisa, nice to hear from you and also really good that you have a lot going on in your life right now. You are far too young to vegetate ha ha. Its all hen party talk and plans here. My daughter wants it to be secret so I am finding it very difficult not to accidentally blab something. I hope I don't! So I try not to think about it. Do you have to plan the one you are going to? I know its a lot of work and you don't always get thanked for it, too many moans at times. Are you merging with another charity? Will it cover a wider area, more people or just the same? Take care and we are hear whenever you get a minute. Love Lily xxx
Hi all, sorry I've been missing, it's feel steam ahead for our merger go live date on Monday so been working lots and starting wedding planning so not had a minutes break. Hoping to catch up with you all and your stories tomorrow day time when I'm actual awake lol xxxxx hugs x lisa
Hi everyone, how are you? Carole any news about your mum? It sounds like it was a nightmare situation and I am sure it was made even more diffcult by you being in another country and trying to work out what to do for the best. Its a situation I constantly worry about, everything going pants up and big changes to the current regime having to be completely rethought. Actually everything went wrong here while I went on holiday. The other relative I care for had a fall and I have spent the last week sorting it all out and calming everybody down. Its surprising how many people do nothing to help but are quick to voice their view when anything goes wrong briefly. I even got interviewd by ss thanks to someone making exaggerated false claims so they thought he was not safe. I was more than happy to tell them exactly how much I do for them around caring for my mother, a full time job and the large family of my own. I detailed every service I have in place to see he is checked on every day and eats, etc and also said I was quite happy to let anyone who thought they could do a better job, have him and do it instead. They were nice and said you are doing a great job, well done, just let us know if you ever need help or respite care. Do you know if I would have to pay for that? I am over it now but was very upset and then cross that somebody would take the time to ring them but not take the time to actually help him themself in any way. I have my suspicions. Carole I hope your situation is moving along better and that mum is safe and looked after now, so you can relax a bit. Nicky I love the hot weather so have been disappointed when the clouds came back. A bit easier to sleep at night though. Better for your walks too. Ha ha Victor would be like that about extra purchases too. I am back on plants and trees. Its not good weather to plant things so they are staying in pots near the house so I can keep them watered well. I bought 2 more trees for our mini forest, a bit more exotic ones this time so I told Victor they were a birthday present for him!! Then I have been looking for some shrubs with different foliage to create some colour when the flowers are finished. So there are another 6 to go in. I need to stay away from garden centres, they are the new cake!! Yes I rather thought Lisbon coulb be renamed sardine city from the way they cover every wall, shop, restaurant, fridge magnets, everywhere you look. I didn't like to mention that I don't eat them. Like you I have been very busy babysitting. I think the toddler stage is most tiring as they get heavy and have their own secret language of noises to understand but rarely sleep during the day by 2 years. Labour of love though and we wouldn't miss a minute. I have to juggle mine as I have 3 families asking for sitters. Heaven help me when they all go out together! Glad your parents and inlaws are reasonable at the moment - enjoy the peace as it can change so quickly. Yes I am having such a lovely summer holiday break, probably haven't done enough work yet but the calendar tells me there is still time so I am putting it off. Get ready for the last minute panic. We are looking at holidays again already. Firstly to try to rebook my holiday trip which we lost. We might try to go again later this year if our plans work out. Then thinking about next year so we don't end up with an expensive house to rent because we left it so late. With a wedding next year too its a help if we can reduce the bill to share out. Also been trying to take mum out on little trips while she is up to it and she enjoys them very much. Have you got much left to do in the house or is it as you want?
Lisa what are you hooked on, on tv currently? I have to confess to being glued to the batchelor and batchelorette. Its a bit like a clean love island. I have also got hooked on wire in the blood and blue bloods. So the planner is full of things to watch. Hugs everyone. I hope your week is going ok love Lily xxxxx
Nicky good for you to be out early before the heat starts so you can still fit in a walk. But I bet by the time you've finished you are perspiring a lot (ladies don't sweat of course).
Lily thanks for the tip about the fodmap diet (did you mean foodmap?) I will take a look when I have a quiet time which doesn't seem to happen at the moment. Portugal sounds wonderful, it's good you got there before the intense heat, you don't know your limitations do you with the sun LOL. Hope you are not as sore now. Have you worn off the custard pastries?
Lisa how lovely to be a maid of honour. Has the diet started yet? Are you cool at work?
Our intense heat continues, I'm sure you realise how difficult it is to be outside after about 9 am until 9 pm! But even during the night we've had temperatures of plus 20. Sleeping is extremely difficult and I'm changing my clothes several times a day as my neck and back are constantly wet! When I am at home I wear the barest minimum. I haven't been able to get out with the doggies, well 2 at the same time is a put off as they both pull and it's hard by myself. They play together and run about all the time and as we have a large garden (with very dead grass at the moment) so they are exercising.
Mum ended up having another fall after they sent her home, with the second fall she was left laying on the floor for around 3 hours, head bleeding. Goodness knows why she didn't press her alarm button, she religiously wears it and yet was too confused it seems to call the alarm. Anyway she was taken back into hospital on Saturday, nothing medically wrong like an infection but was severely dehydrated, constipated and confused. She was put onto a drip to get her hydrated and had several enemas to clear the impaction. We are all aware that she can no longer live in an assisted living home, so are now hoping for a place in an actual care home. She needs help with her medication, cooking, drinking and personal care (much to her disgust, she never loses her stubbornness). She was sent into a rehabilitation centre yesterday for some intense physio and a bit of looking after. She might only be here for a week but hope it could be for longer. As for the assisted living home, we are all going to make a complaint as it is clear that she should have been visited in her flat 4 times a day, had her room cleaned and washing done once a week and this has not been happening.
Sorry for long post, I think it's time for me to hop into the swimming pool as dripping already! Take care girls love Carole xx
Phew, a break in the weather, although none of the rain that was promised for last night which is annoying.
How have you all been coping? I have just been getting out for a walk early in the day then shutting myself indoors once it starts getting hot, closing all windows etc after trapping in the cooler air. It seems to have worked as it's been reasonably cool indoors but boiling outside. When it gets this hot I do absolutely nothing! Which must please OH as I end up just buying food that we need and dont go to any other shops so the bank balance stays healthy.
Good job you just missed the extreme heat in Lisbon, Lily, that would almost have been as bad as a holiday when it rains all the time as both typoes of weather mean you dont venture outside as much. I'm glad you found and tested the custard tarts, although they are difficult to miss. Did you see all the beautiful sardine shops, one we saw was like a circus all brightly coloured with merry go rounds etc. They certainly celebrate that particular fish! Any plans for the rest of the holidays? We have a few odd days staying away here and there but generally being at home and helping look after GS on the days he's not at his childminders. Well, I say we, I mean me as OH is at work. It is lovely but really tiring so I'm shattered by the end of each day as he's on the go all the time, and he's not even walking yet so goodness knows what will happen then!
Carole, how are things in France? Any change in the heat you've been having? I think we left just as the hot spell was getting going as the week before had been quite pleasant we were told. Our weather over here has also stayed hot with only the odd cooler day thrown in for a bit of relief. Hope Mum is OK and recovered from the falls. It's a worrying time when it gets this hot especially for the elderly. My parents are doing OK but OH's don't cope so well and their health has been suffering, although there's lots of underlying health issues as well which dont help.
Lisa, how has it been for you? Do you have air con at work? I tell OH to stop complaining about the heat, he's in air con offices all day, I'm sat in an un-airconditioned house!
Hi everyone, how are you all? Baking hot like me? Who would believe British weather could do this?? Lisa how lovely to be asked to be maid of honour, is it for a friend? We have another wedding on the go of course and every time YD gets in a flap and starts doubting herself and planning diets. At least I get some company and someone to talk to about it as everyone else is tiny, lucky them. I think you seem to be having slightly cooler weather so maybe you can sleep better than us? Fan is on all night for me after having a week of air conditioning, its tough. Carole, sorry to hear about mum's falls, how is she now? Did they test her for a stroke or TIA or think it was just a coincidence to happen twice? Mum gets much more doddery if she has any kind of infection and its not hard to get dehydrated and get a water infection in this heat. It sounds like you are even hotter though. How are you coping? YD gets IBS and has been trying the fodmap diet after being recommended to try it by a gp. Its about certain food giving you bloat, etc and is not too difficult to follow. Although it is annoying when favourite foods are out. Might be worth a read to see if your diet contains some of the worst foods, these include some fruit and vegetables too. Nicky I bet that free week was amazing and went by too quickly for you. As you say this is a really good regime compared to past more challenging ones so enjoy it and the extra time it brings to do all the other things you can't always fit in, on a busier week. ceWell we were lucky to escape Portugal just before the very high temperatures started. It was very hot there and seemed much hotter than published figures but that's probably because we were right in the city streets and the tall buildings hold the heat in. It was a lovely week. Our hotel was huge and very smart withuniformed doormen and silver service. So it was an anxious week as everything I ordered turend out very differently from what I expected and I am really fussy as well as being allergic to shellfish so in a flap about fish dishes. Good old Victor is now fat as a horse as he HAD to eat up my disasters as the waiters got concerned if I didn't eat it! That along with a lot of cool beers, which he only drinks much unless people are round. Thank you Nicky for the thumbs up about the little custard pastries. I fell in love with them and probably ate about 15 over the holiday!! What a piggy. Its a great city for sightseeing especially the historic sights. Did you go underneath the bank in the underground passages to look at the ruins? We did a lot of research before we went and visited so many interesting places. I was in heaven when I found THE shopping street with all the big names. Well better buzz off, still struggling a bit after a day on one of the lovely sandy beaches. I think the breeze off the sea is refreshing but fools you how hot it is. My tummy is like a red jelly 😞 and this hot sun seems to be keeping it going. My own fault. Love to all Lily xx
Hi all, how's the weather for you all, ours has gone downhill in the last few days, been bad but least garden had a water. Whose on holiday then?
Im shattered work is relentless but will hopefully calm down in a few weeks lol.Nothing lee to report, but need to commence diet as maid of honour next may, yikes lol
xxxx hope everyone well xxx
Hi all, I'm around Judah been manic, after 400 miles work driving last week hoping to be around more this week and have a good catch up tomorrow xxxx
No reason for my absence other than not having time to log in and write lots! It was nice to have last week relatively free of appointments, just the one MRI (as the final part of the research study I signed up for) but what with that being early in the morning and looking after GS one morning and trying to get out for a walk before it gets too hot I ended up not logging on as I find I can ‘lose’ too much time first thing in the morning. Excuses over! So, other than keeping out of the heat most of the time I haven’t really been up to much. It has been nice not having quite so many visits to the hospital this year (last year I was on Eribulin which was far too many visits) and also having minimal side effects from the current treatment so I’m relishing the freedom. We have managed to squeeze in two lots of friends for evening meals here which has meant some preparation etc (and late nights) but I’ve enjoyed it as it’s been quite a while since I’ve been able to plan ahead and feel up to entertaining anyone other than close family. It’s also been lovely to be able to sit out in the evening with them whereas most summers we have get far too chilly by July as the good weather usually stops when it’s time for the schools to break up!
Carole, how lovely to have a playmate for your little pup, I hope it pays off and you don’t end up with double trouble! How hot is it where you are? When we were nearby for the wedding I think it was about 32C on the day of the wedding and about 25C at least at night which made for some uncomfortable nights as we stayed in older places without air con. Btw, Lily, it was a friends daughters wedding who went to infant school with my ED so we know the family well and ED was giving a short reading/poem so we were all in invited.
Lisa how are things your way? Are you getting any of this decent weather? I hope so as it so often misses out the far north.
Lily, enjoy the holidays, I’m sure you will and I hope Lisbon isn’t too hot for you - at least you’ve had time to adjust to the heat as it’s been so hot here! I might have said this before but the old style trams get so overcrowded as everyone want to get on one. There are newer ones on most of the routes I think which are far more dignified and cooler.
Well an even better week appointment wise this week as I have none, hooray. So I’ll be getting out for early walks then hiding inside like I did last week plus a bit of GS sitting. Enjoy your week everyone, if you can cope with the heat.
Hi everyone, how are you? Carole asked if I was near the end of term, yes this week but it has been so hectic in the weeks beforehand I hardly had time to do anything else so sorry for my online silence. Carole we have not had the final part of the refund yet but managed to get an email confirming everything from our bank so fingers crossed. I would never fly ryanair again as they have totally ignored my request, despite being on their form and posted to ireland. Nothing at all. Plus being left to stand at the gate and not be told they had no fuel and no plane. I think they were aware of that a long time neforehand and could have donbe more - like anything at all. My friend lost her planned holiday too due to pilot strikes. Carole the storm sounded freaky and I am glad it did not do any more damage as could have been catastrophic and you have had enough of those with your home already! How are the 2 pups getting on now? Any easier with 2?
Lisa how is your job going now? Any more plans for your house this year? Its been a while since you decorated and I know you love it. I am planning on changing the hall, landing and stairs as we had some new doors put in and it really updates the look so deserves a few less fingerprints!!
Nicky I forgot to ask whose wedding it was? A long way to go for a wedding but probably worth it from the sound of it. Sorry gs was unwell and it had to be when away, nightmare. Did your daughter manage to stay calm as mine would be frantic if taken into hospital.
Its been very quiet at home with son away with his work for a fortnight. Although we were on yhe mobiles to each other through the world cup games to exchange cheers and groans of disappointments. He was really fed up as had thought he might see their first win. I said as you get older you will get used to it! He has split with his gf so we are lodgerless now and he has found it difficult at times I think. Wedding fever has hit so we are all excited and the wedding dress has been picked. A spectacular creation that requires a catwalk figure. She certainly doesn't take after me, that's for sure. There are so many little ones and 3 are hers so it will be interesting to see how they are all included in the wedding. A little more difficult with boys. I am really looking forward to it already and its not until next year. Well better buzz off. Holiday in a week or so and I better get off the ground this time or I am going to sit in the middle of the airport and scream. So if you see a news article and see a woman dragged off, its me! Lily xx
Hi just a quick post to say fantastic news Nicky and I am so pleased for you. Well done 🙂 Carole another dog!! Hope that will give Aero someone else to chew. Lisa your trip sounded lovely. Will catch up mor next time. Lily xx
I'm actually finding time to sit at the Laptop rather than my phone so can send a slightly longer message.
Lisa, how was the barbeque? Is your weather still hot?
Nicky that is brilliant news about your results you must be delighted? You sound fitter than me despite having ongoing BC.
Lily did you manage to get your refunds for your lost journey to Barcelona? You must be excited, only a couple more weeks of this year's term left?
Our weather has been extremely hot, but last week we had a very strange storm. Around 5 pm it started to get very dark and windy, so we knew something was going to happen. As we sat eating our meal half of a tree came flying into our garden during an extremely strong gust. The power went so we had dinner by candlelight lol. However, the electric was off for 24 hours and the windy storm was soon followed by heavy hail and rain, thunder and lightening. This weird weather didn't last more than a couple of hours and the debris of trees and branches in our garden and along the road was pretty full on. Fortunately, all our animals were inside otherwise I fear they may have been injured. The French news said it was a hurricane, but I think it was just a very strong gust of wind.
Then on Friday YD returned with all her belongings which as yet hasn't been sorted out so our house looks a bit like a charity shop.
Some other news, we decided to visit a French dog rescue. I had already decided that IF we took on another dog it would have to be a femail. Sure enough there was only one female there, she had been in the refuge for 4 days after being found just wandering around the streets. Their vet thought she was around the same age as our pup. Somehow we felt she found us! We have called her Mea, she's a cross lab. So for 2 and a half weeks we have been very busy with 2 young dogs, who get on really well. Mr P had to build a low fence around our pool area as Aero the chocolate lab decided he liked swimming and was jumping in and not getting out! The pool doesn't look as nice with a fence around it, but the pool liner might not have stood up to doggie paws.
I'm full of aches and pains, yesterday I think I pulled a muscle in my chest so find today some movements very difficult. I'm having a problem with one foot and I've also been stung by a wasp just above my knee and that has swelled up and still painful. The other knee (the one I fell on) still can't take kneeling and that has been 4 weeks now. Enough of my groans.
It's hard to believe we're in July already, where has this year gone? All from me, hope you managed not to fall asleep during my epic post xxxx
Welcome back nicky, sounds fab. Lots of people I know have had gastrointeritos heck ignore spelling. Poor wee thing. France sounds lovely but hot. I'm off to BBQ now after weekend in Newcastle so hopefully catch some soon.
fab news on results 🎉🎉😍😍😘😃🍾
I'm back! We had a fabulous time in France but unfortunately weren't able to meet up with Carole. I had explained this to her beforehand and had thought that it might be possible but we only had one free day whlist in that part of France and an awful lot of driving beforehand and still to go. As it turned out we had to help out ED as our GS wasn't very well (he had gastroenteritis) so we gave them a break that day and looked after him, keeping him out of the heat, cars and everything else! It was very very hot but where they had stayed was much breezier that in the town part where we were staying so it was better that we kept him in the shade and let him sleep as much as possible. He's fine now, it just worked its course, but they did need to take him to hospital to get checked after the local GP advised it. He needed to be kept hydrated and replace his salts and sugars as he'd been very sick on and off for a couple of days. Back to his happy self now though.
So, we had a fab time visiting quite a few areas of France on our way down to the wedding venue. The wedding itself was lovely, but everyone was so hot! It was held in what we call a country house but was called a chateau and it was absolutely picture perfect. Lots of fun, eating, drinking and dancing the night away. A long drive home but we broke it up with stops so GS wasn't too fed up in the car, and back home to even more sun - but luckiliy much cooler nights than in France.
Also I came back to my recent scan results which I had this morning and it was rather an anxious wait in the waiting room. Anyway it came back as all stable, no liver mets (or none that are visible), no other soft tissue mets and bones are stable. Phew, huge sigh of relief. Plus I had a routine heart checkup in London just before we went away and that came back probably higher than most of the general population! I'm now on annual checkups with them unless my treatment changes to a harsh chemo regime. So, I continue being stabbed left right and centre every 4 weeks but other than chatting to the nurses on those occasions I don't see anyone medical at all until my next scan results.
Hope all of you are doing OK. I'll catch up with any news from now on but just wanted to update you. Sorry to have missed you Carole, the extra drive would have just been a bit too far.
Hi all, been back a few days but straight back at work. We went to albuferia, in between old town and new town just to relax, so chills, walks and lots of fab food. We had amazing cake shop attached to us which was lovely and had some lovely meals courtesy of trip advisor, would never have found them. Even dad enjoyed the food. Weather was fab but boy it's hot here, I've got a fan on 24/7 it's been between 25 and 30 every day. 22 at night so very sweaty sleep, reminds me of the hot flush days..
nicky, that s fab news re your heart and figures crossed for other results. Hope you manage to meet up with carole x
lily, hope your holiday is coming up soon?
Carole, how's the weather your end and how is the puppy coping with it.
well short week again as off to Sarah millican on Thursday in Newcastle, so football tomorrow and love island then off again 😍😍👍👍
Well done Nick, really good to hear about your heart function now. Such a good thing you were brave and had the heart procedure, is it a year ago or more? Fingers crossed as always for latest scans to show the op has had a very beneficial effect too. Good job you are a brave person! Enjoy your breaks everyone. I will stay here and work booo while you all have a great time. I love the hot weather, love the footy too. One of the littles had their 7th birthday so 2 celebrations this month and another 2 nnext month and the holiday, so no chance of any kind of healthy eating, so having a great time ha ha. Take care. Hugs Lily xx
Have a great time Lisa and tell us all about it when you’re back. Where did you decide to go in the end (other than Portugal, I mean which city). The UK does look good weather wise next week and we’re also off but, as you say, at least there’s no work and for me no chores or appointments. I think I need to give a 👍🏻to all my friends about any holidays we have booked as every time we go away the weather turns better here and we miss it.
Carole, I’ll PM you about meeting up, I have been trying to check with both ED (and OH) about their plans and thoughts as there’s only one day we could make it and the weather outlook has been changing a lot since the early part of this month which will make a difference about what we’re all planning to do on that day. I expect you are watering you’re plants every day now and hopefully getting in your pool to cool off. Who needs a holiday when you have that on your doorstep?
Lily, well you asked where the sun was and you have now got it coming your way! I love this type of weather when it’s still cool in the morning but bright and breezy during the day. None of that humidity that stops us sleeping. Not long until your holiday which you must be looking forward to and I hope there’s no hiccups with the travel unlike Barcelona. How annoying that you have to chase up the insurance company but it always seems to be the way doesn’t it.
So a catch up from me. Not much to report other than all the appointments are over with for a week or two at least. Scans and treatment last week and then a heart check up this week which went really well and it’s good to know that my heart function is now as high, if not higher, than the healthy part of the population. Well done that team. And also I’m on an annual checkup now rather than 4-6 monthly but can obviously see them if I have a problem. Going on how some GPS up the doses of heart meds without the detailed knowledge that a specialist centre has I would definitely take them up on that should I need it. My MIL is having so many problems with her heart and her GP admitted to her the other week that she was wrong to give her a higher dose! Doesn’t instil confidence does it?
Anyway have a good weekend whatever you are doing. We are following the football, or most matches in the evening at least, and YD is loving Love Island but other than last night when she was watching it I haven’t seen it. Enjoy the ☀️ wherever you are.
Hi everyone. Lisa have a lovely holiday. I can't believe I booked Portugal so long ago and you have all got there before me. Making me excited to go though. Still no sign of the rest of our money 😞 I need to get on to them. Yes Lisa I am a fan too, have to be as that is all anyone talks about at work! Well that's my excuse. Love Lily xx
Hi all, sounds like you've all been busy too. I've been absent as so tired working so many hours to get into next stages at work so hopefully will settle down soon, I know when I've over tired as headaches and ears vibrate lol, I'm strange.
Carole hope you've got better weather now, we got the rain tonight but looks like a lovely week coming up, just as I head off to Portugal, looks like just as nice here, but no work there lol.
is everyone else off on hols soon?
im only watching footie, but I'm sadly addicted to love island, shussssss.....
catch you soon xx
Hi everyone, how are you all? Carole we could put the 2 mums together and they could put the whole world to rights ha ha. Well mine is on the phone to the doc as well. She is under the impression that they can cure anything and demands it. Last week she had called a paramedic out because she couldn't breathe and then opened the door moaning at him as she walked along on her zimmer, that she had a breathing problem. As she has had asthma all her life it beats me how she suddenly thinks that she would be able to do all this if in fact in trouble. Then she decided he could look at her legs while he was there and chatted about that! Everyone and everything seems to be wrong, which is tough work on visitors 😞 Hopefully this moody phase will move on very soon! Well it was my daughter's birthday not one of the littles. We had a ladies afternoon tea party where someone came and set the place up with yummy cakes and traditional china and cake stands. Then all the rest of the family came in later. i ate far too much and suffering now for it. I hope you knee improves soon, don't worry about scars they add character ha. I think we all have quite a few war wounds. It will be fab if you and Nick meet up, good luck with your plans. What is the new diabetes gadget, it sounds like a great improvement.
Nicky have you recovered a bit yet? Pretty much the best kind of tiredness, from grandchildren don't you think? I had 2 staying over the weekend and am still trying to catch up with work after that. A busy time with all your checks, fingers crossed as always for good results. Will you liver be healed yet? I agree the weather is so unreliable this year. I am sure it is lovely and sunny behind the thick bank of clouds. So much for global warming, I want to be warmer grrrrr. Are you watching the footy everyone? I love it but Vitcor is not a fan, so we watch separate tvs. Son is absolutely crazy about it and leaps up and down cheering, lovely to see people supporting their country really. School is just fulll of footy talk, so I have to keep up with the latest. Better buzz off. Lily xx
Lily, you are quite right, in another life we might have known each other. We have a few similarities what with our Mums and our children. Speaking of which I'm sure you're little pink will have a splendid birthday if you are organising it. How old is she, I guess about 3 now?? Talking of Mums, mine is still driving me crackers. She's given up her day centre one day a week, one chance to get out of that awful home she lives in and she can't be bothered. She was prescribed anti depressants in May but hasn't taken one! She seems to speak to her doctor about once a week over the telephone, he makes a decision about what is wrong and treats her with something from a phone call!
Nicky hopefully we can manage a meet somewhere, but I do appreciate how busy some holidays can be, let us see. Reading about how long your results take makes me appreciate the health system here in France. It is normal to come out of the radiology dept with Scans and report. Sometimes it involves a wait of about an hour - or longer - but it is nice to know the results on the day.
Lisa how is work now, are you enjoying all the changes?
I have a new device for testing my blood glucose. I'm excited about it because it means I no longer have to stab my poor fingers 5 or 6 times a day. It is available here on our health service but I understand it's not available in the UK and has to be paid for privately. As long as I can support the glue that it sticks to me with. As you may remember I seem to be allergic to most plasters and sticky things.
My poor knee still hurts, I can't believe how long it is taking. It looks rather nasty too so I'm sure I will be scarred.
I'm hoping today will be sunny, no rain is forecast for today which makes a change. So I had better get out and water the tomatoes and cucumbers.
Love to all Carole x
A busy few days for me over the past week or so. Looking after GS is quite exhausting and then playing catch up with all the usual things I do in the week just adds to the tiredness. Throw in a couple of nights of insomnia and that’s how I feel atm! Anyway I’m over the most hectic parts so hoping for a quieter few days although I do have several appointments to keep me on my toes. I will get the CT results when we get back from our hols as they won’t be through before we go, well the actual scan will be on the system immediately but it’s the report that takes the time. Then a routine heart checkup that was postponed from last month which will complete my latest MOT except for a liver MRI which hasn’t been sorted yet but is part of the research study rather than an essential part of my ongoing care.
Carole, sorry to hear about the fall. A few years back I slipped on holiday and as I had my hands full at the time I couldn’t stop myself hitting and grazing my knee. Boy did it sting and looked absolutely awful on the rest of the holiday sat by the pool. I still have a big mark where it took the skin off. I hope you’re adjusting to Mr P being back at work, it must be very strange the enforced separation but I guess other jobs also have that drawback, or is it a bonus (for some 😉). I will get back to you about whether we can meet up when we’re in France, OH and I just haven’t had much of a chance to check maps and work out how much driving we’ll be doing.
Lisa, it must warmer where you are than where we are for a change as we haven’t had the unpleasant sweaty nights! But maybe it’s because you’re at work and have to shut the house up during the day? I hate it when you can’t get to sleep but are desperate to.
Well it’s a overcast start to the day herein the South, very gloomy but due to brighten up later. What an odd year this year has been weather wise, one day hot and sunny the next day cloudy and much chillier. Oh well, at least it gives us Brits something to moan about.
Hi everyone, how are you? Carole your family match up agewise with my oldest 2. We would match up well if we had met when they were young. Sorry to hear about your fall, it sounds nasty but as you say thankfully nothing broken. Whenever I have fallen over it always surprises me how much more it hurts when you are older. Plus we tell little ones its just a scratch but yow!! Yes terrible weather, I think you have had more storms than us but at least there is not much watering as a bonus. Lisa that's disappointing to miss your night out too. Will you get a refund or tickets for a future date? Did you get your next holiday planned yet?
Our birthday hits this week so I have been busy trying to find something for her. She is an outdoor girl who would most love it if I bought her a pig. I am not joking and no I didn't buy one. They are going away so I am going to be busy as its their first ever sleepover. I think keeping them busy and wearing them out is the plan. Then a family dinner plus another on the day, so a busy week. What a good idea for ED to move nearer, its reassuring that you can get there quickly if needed plus the extra time you get with them instead of travelling. Our little pink went for just a day a couple of weeks to settle her in before she actually started work and was gone for a few days each week. That seemed to calm them both down. Nothing like an anxious mumy to make babies go crazy when they are left. How are your appointments going? Is everything going ok? Lily xxx
Hi all, sorrybeen so busy just finished working now so of to bed or the sweat box as it is at the moment it's so sticky hot here. Will catch up tomorrow glad everyone is okay xxxx lisa
Sorry for a short absence, I just don't know where the time goes.
We have had some nice hot sunny days and even managed to have a swim on a couple of those days. However, I think we've had our spring and summer as weather is back to rain and grey skies. We did have a terrific thunderstorm which seemed to last all through the night, 2 nights ago. When it hasn't been raining we've had some nice long walks with pups, who is still very boisterous and nibbling and biting. On saturday I took a tumble while out walking, how embarrassing, but have ended up with a badly grazed knee and stiff and painful arms and shoulders where I tried to break the fall. Luckily at my age, thankfully I didn't break anything
It sounds as though you've all been travelling. Rome is a definite (but only when it's cool), we will return their one day. Lily what a bummer that your Barcelona trip didn't happen, and it sounds as though it was a costly cancellation too. Anyway hopefully your trip to Portugal will not have any hitches.
Lisa did you get reimbursed for Peter Kay's cancellation? I know there has been a lot of discussion about him in the press but you don't know what to believe. He seems a very private man and it must be something quite serious for him to cancel all the tour. Just hope he's ok.
I have two children who passed 30 - ED 5 years ago and S 3 years ago. Time goes so quickly doesn't it? Yes it does make you feel old sometimes.
Mr P has been home for 5 weeks but returns to work tomorrow. You get into a routine as a couple again and then I get into my own routine being home alone.
Well time for me to get on. Love Carole xx
Lily - our ED hits 30 this year as well and wants to have a family trip to Disneyland Paris, taking little GS with us of course although he’d be too young to appreciate it. We will see how that planning goes but it’s not until the end of the year so we have a bit of time to do it. As she says it’s for her not him so she’s really wanting to go, ha ha. As to GS, yes he is a live wire and even now already shuts his eyes if he slips whilst holding on to something as he expects to bang his head! He’s been pretty mobile in one way or the other since he learnt to roll from about 5 months so we’ve had to watch him. He now crawls around properly having adopted a commando style crawl as his first way of moving in a proper direction - dragging his body weight along! What he does now do is sit and ply with things which is nice and is quite fascinated by things that spin, and that he can make spin so he’s not on the move all the time now which is nice. As to childminding I will help out on occasions but to be honest with my bone mets and also instability with disease i can’t commit to an arrangement. They have found a nice childminder and ED is changing jobs to a new company when she goes back from maternity to one that is much closer to home, just 10mins down the road, so she can be there for the mornings and evenings which she’ll love. Her current job is a big commute and wouldn’t have worked out although she loves the job and people. They have been really understanding and she’s actually been back working there this week as part of her return to work maternity package which is why I’ve had the little monster! It’s been lovely but my back is not happy at all!
And, yes, I’ve been to Bicester many times and have often popped in when we have been visiting family further up north as it’s just off the M40 which we have to cut across to get back home. It’s has grown and grown since it was first opened and it actually a destination place now for Chinese tourists! And I mean that as an actual itinerary item that a lot insist on as they save so much money on the designer brands they have there. It didn’t have so many of the top end designers at first but has expanded to include them. It’s the nearest we have seen in the UK that is like the outlet places we saw in New England many years ago when we first went to an outlet village.
I haven’t forgotten you are going to Lisbon but I hadn’t put any top tips as we went in February when it was very pleasant to walk around and therefore we walked a lot. I think in the summer it will be much hotter and busier so it’s difficult to know what to recommend to see other than the main sights. I’d say avoid the trams as much as you can especially the most famous routes. Obviously use them if you want and need to but they get soooooo crowded! Also visit Caiscais which is a seaside town which is meant to be very nice. We didn’t go that way as it was February so headed into the hills to see the mansions, but my parents have been there many times and say how lovely it is. There is a train line that runs there.
Anyway I get a day off from child minding duties today so am catching up on all the things I haven’t been able to get on with this week - they are very time consuming these little people aren’t they. However I am back on duty on Tuesday for my final shift which will be nice as I’ll have had a break over the weekend, and so will my back!
Have a good weekend all.
Hi everyone, phew back after a heavy week of work but just getting into the best time to be a teacher with summer hols on the way and exam fever starting to reduce. Strange that everything gets busy at the same time. I might have weeks of wishing I had something nice to do and then wam they all come together. We have a string of birthdays including yd turning 30. That really makes me feel old but chuffed too at the same time, you know what I mean. So I have the boys for the weekend at the end of next week, dress shopping is on the go every week too and the weather is nice to be out.
Carole we know exactly what your weather was like as you sent it straight to us!! Thank you very much, send us sun sun sun next time if you can 🙂 . I am a mother hen about my kids and although I wouldn't want their relationships to go wrong ever, I love having them back at home. I get really excited when one says can I stay over. Always been the same. I am not very house proud so perhaps that helps ha ha. I am sure you will fit back in together and enjoy it and at least the pup will have someone else to play with and distract him, so that might help you too. I bet it will be great.
Lisa did you remember I am going to Portugal this summer too, staying in Lisbon? Let me know all about your trip if you get there before me. I like the fact that you have the city life, loads of places to visit and great beaches all in the same place. Are you going for a package tour to a hotel or out and about? Mind you, there are so many nice places to visit I think you will enjoy wherever you stay.
Nick I'm glad one of us managed to escape and Rome how fab. I think it was one of my favourite holidays. Just like an adult version of Disneyland, just the real thing. We had a nice break and on the way back went to this amazing village outlet in Bicester. If you are ever that way, you will not believe how many designers have shops there. Very dangerous place to visit with a credit card even if the prices are reduced by hundreds. Handbag heaven and hardly a shop without a security guy on the door as such expensive stock. I imagine its a local wags paradise. Nicky the next generation are fascinating aren't they, you see so much of your own kids in them as a reminder of happy days. Sounds like you will be having to toddler proof your house, boys are nowhere near as safe and reliable as girls be warned. I swear they actually enjoy accidents and danger and look for it. I have a tiled hearth to the fireplace and have it covered in cushions when they are starting to walk as it would be a bad cut if they fell. Tiny , as he was known despite being like a tank now, is a regular visitor to a and e unfortunately, he thinks he is a super hero and charges into anything. Just getting over the latest slip and land on concrete face down. So upsetting to see his little face all battered but he couldn't care less and keeps running around. My son was like that too, always injured and couldn't care less about it. Will you childmind little chap at all when she is at work or is it full time and a bit too much? So sad for mums to go back to work but so many people need to with property prices so high. Its nice if they can choose the amount of work/home to suit what they want to do. My ED would love to be a full time mum but can't afford to, but manages to work part time. Good luck with your run of appointments coming up. Keep me posted how you get on at each one. It would be lovely if you managed to meet up with Carole, wouldn't it? Take care all. Love Lily xx
Lily - how disappointing that your holiday was cancelled, I think we must have just got in with our return flight home so weren’t affected by the storms, although we saw the lightening display on our way back from the airport. As you say you have insurance but it’s all the smaller things that you pre book or arrange that don’t always seem to be covered so it can work out expensive even though you’re insured. I hope you had a good break though in the UK and get another chance to go to Barcelona.
Carole, I know what you mean about YD coming back home to live after several years of independence! Our YD was the same, she’d lived in Paris for nearly 4 years since the age of 18 came back for a short time before heading off to live in South London. We didn’t expect her to return home but her change of career meant she did. By that time we’d also moved to a house that is half the size of the previous one so it was quite a shock to OH and I (more me than him as I’m here all day whereas he’s at work!). The 6 months or so whilst she was on her cooking course were the worst as she was constantly here every evening so OH and I found we didn’t have time to chat just to each other and had to make allowances for tv, food, all sorts. However since she has started working in the restaurant last year she’s very rarely here at the same time as us and we look forward to seeing her when she is. So my advice is to get her to train as a chef ha ha. Having said that I’m sure you’ll be fine, just a few house rules might be needed at times 😉. Btw I’ll PM you in a min about our visit to France.
Lisa, hope all is going well with you and good to hear you’re looking for another holiday to book - a girl after my own heart. Lisbon is a great city and Porto is like a mini version of Lisbon. Both lovely places for a short break and good value for money. Both are very hilly though so get your walking shoes out if you visit either of them. Also Malaga is brilliant, not like it has been portrayed over the years. Lots of lovely restaurants, a beach, beautiful gardens and plenty of history to look around plus of course great shops, what’s not to like? Enjoy the planning.
Well, not much to report here other than getting back to normal and bracing myself for the weeks ahead when I have all sorts of appointments, all routine but the whole lot landing in my diary at the same time including a heart check up. Factor in a few days looking after GS when ED has her back-to-work maternity days then I’ll be maxed out - and tired out! He is doing so well and is as giggly and smiley as he always was but now has lots of teeth instead of a gummy smile. He keeps ED on her toes, as he does us, but has at long last settled into sitting still for a while and playing with his toys rather than rolling all over the floor (his first mode of movement) which progressed to semi crawling which meant we were constantly having to chase around after him and also stop him bumping his head on things. He is quite fascinated by throwing a ball which he does rather well and i can’t remember either of my two being able to consciously do that until they were much older. ED is struggling to see where he gets his brains from ha ha.
Anyway have a good weekend, hope the rain clouds clear and we get a bit more sun.
Hi all, glad to hear from you Nicky, Rome sounds lovely it's on my list of places to visit. I'm on the hunt for a mini break to Portugal once our big meeting is done next week.
sorry about your trip lily sounds awful.
carol, hope you're weather has improved. I think there's sound bad weather approaching however for once we seem to be bypassed and it's still almost twenty degrees xxxx
Hello everyone, glad to hear from you all. Nicky the trip sounded lovely and Rome is right at the top of my list of places to revisit. You just can't beat the atmosphere and history everywhere you turn. You have recovered so quickly when you consider how much they did, incredible. Fingers crossed as always for the next scan results. Nice to have a little time on a familiar regime so you know exactly where you are and how you will feel. I think its the unknown that freaks us out more than anything at times.
Well I am still feeling rather sad as I lost my holiday and quite a bit of money as we were due to fly out after the big storm which hit our airport and cancelled our flight. We got trapped in the airport as had gone through security and checked our cases in. They waited until after the flight should have left to cancel it and made no announcements. Eventually an airport staff member advised out to get out of the airport and go back in and start all over to try to rebook. So we had to get out, go through customs, wait to collect cases at the baggage reclaim and then go round to check in again. By now there were bodies everywhere and a queue of hundreds so after a quick word with our travel people, came home while they tried to get us on another flight or start the holiday on the next day. They couldn't connect it up and all flights (not that there were many) were booked so no holiday 😞 So we had a UK holiday just what Victor wanted !! So my clothes weren't really appropriate but threw a raincoat and jumpers in the back of the car and had a few days away. I am still so disappointed but we plan to go again. Trouble is I can only go in holiday times so quite a wait. We had a taxi waiting for us in Barcelona, advanced fast track tickets for sites, euros ready, the lot. We were insured but they have T and Cs and excesses so out of pocket for some of it. Lovely to hear about a new baby Carole. Maybe it took them a while to conceive this one as dr's advice is to then have another in under a year as your best chance of fertility. Or maybe they just loved her so much, they wanted to do it all over and have them grow up close. It will be lovely. Lisa you sound like you are enjoying being busy, so maybe the new job will work out better? Lily xx
Sorry for the very long absence this time, nothing to worry about, I just didn’t get around to logging on before we headed off to Rome for our first trip post-op. Funnily enough we were going to go to Barcelona but decided at the last minute to go back to Rome as we love the city so much. We stayed in a lovely hotel with a pool so we could both relax by it during the day but go into the city centre in the evening or earlier in the day if we wanted. As it was the first couple of days were a bit iffy weather wise so we did do much more walking than we had expected but I felt up to it which was good. Really had a good time, for both of us, and got back late on Saturday evening so lots of catching up with the washing, gardening etc yesterday and OH still has a day off today which is nice.
Lily, enjoy Barcelona, we went about 10 years ago so I’m sure nothing much has changed since then. You probably will have gone by now but if not you should also visit the Gaudi house, can’t think of it’s actual name but it is Casa something, very unusual and one of the featured sights to see in Barcelona. We also went up to the Olympic park and swam in the pool, do you remember seeing the diving when it was on when the olympics was held there inthe90’s or whenever it was. A fantastic view over the city which is where the cable car runs to I think. Have fun and watch yourself on the Ramblas, it’s a bit of a tourist trap and definitely a pickpocket haven! And another wedding for you, wow, you must have a lot of outfits by now!
Carole, what a lot to catch up on with your news of another GC! Wow, I’d better not tell my daughter, who had her baby around the same time, she’d have a fit if she found out she was pregnant again! Hope all goes well for them and what a handful. Good to hear your weather has been nice. I mentioned this way back last year but we do have a wedding to go to in your part of the world, however as it was announced so long ago I wasn’t sure I’d be able to go. However we will be going which is nice so I’ll have to PM you to find out if we are anywhere near you when we stay there. We are taking a driving route to the venue so stopping off both on the way there and the way back so we’re not in the actual wedding location for very long so well just have to see if it fits in with our plans. And, like Lily, I hope the bite doesn’t get infected, poor you.
Lisa, glad work seems to be going OK for you after so much upheaval, bet you’re glad for the long weekend in any case but a shame you couldn’t get to see Peter Kay. It’s so difficult when you plan a special concert or occasion and have to book everything else around it but the even gets cancelled. Some friends of ours booked to see some band or another in a European city so had all their flights and hotels booked before the band cancelled! It’s all very well getting your ticket money back but you can’t get a refund for all the other bits and it’s not always a place you would have chosen to visit so a lot of wasted money.
The royal wedding was fab wasn’t it? We watched it all and thoroughly enjoyed it, except for the overlong sermon! I think cutting it in half might have worked better and still got the right message across. I have been enjoying reading all the gossip about what went on at the receptions, particularly the evening one where the guests all seem to have let their hair down - good for them.
Well, I’m back now so will be more in touch than recently. Btw, Lily as you’ve asked, I’m still on the same treatment and have a scan shortly to see how it’s going. Until then there will be no changes.
Hi all, sorry I've been so busy not had time to log on, work is bonkers but am also enjoying it in a weird sort of way. Working most nights till 11pm but should ease up soon.
Well lily, another wedding, amazing. I haven't been to a wedding in about 5 years. So pleased your trip is back on, it was years ago when I visited so can't wait to hear about it, when I looked at it the gothic quarter looked like a lovely area. Sorry about your mum and uncle sounds like a lot to deal with.
carole, glad the sun is out and seen some lovely flowers on facebook. So sorry about the wee bite, hope it's not too deep.
Nicky, hope you're doing okay and just having a rest and enjoying some freedom xxx
well off to bed, few days off as we get a free day off after the bank holiday so off to Glasgow for two nights, was supposed to be PETER kay but instead it's now just a chill out.
have a Lovely weekend all xx
Hi everyone. Nick we haven't heard from you for a little while, are you ok? Hope you are just busy and catching up with things that you had to put off while convalescing. Are you able to plan some trips yet? Have you found out what treatment they want you to have next? I hope they have a plan that you agree with and gives you some nice time to do what you want.Take care xx Carole, yes we have been enjoying some nice weather too, at last. I am in sandals and bare legs at last 🙂 . No thunder here though. I liked watching all the celebs arriving at the royal wedding. No celebs at our, which is at Easter next year. Yes every person who has been to Barcelona has warned about the amount of stealing and pickpockets so I have been warned. We have used that exact website to advance buy tickets for sagrada familia which looks incredible. We could have stayed in a hotel right close to it but decided to stay in the Gothic quarter to be more central. Then we can set out each day to different places. Your dog is a rascal, I hope the bite did not get infected. I think here you have to get a shot if it breaks the skin much. Does Aero have to have a rabies shot in France? What lovely news about another grandchild, congratulations. Another little person to visit :). Lisa how are things with you? Well I am off before too long and have been trying to plan everything I want to see, to make the best use of our time there. Wew paid quite a small extra amount and managed to arrive early and leave late, giving us a lot more hours. Well better buzz off. Hugs. Lily xxx
Well since Friday we have had super weather, it has been really warm although that usually means an almighty thunderstorm. We've had a few bangs but nothing much.
Lily, another wedding, how lovely we all get excited about weddings don't we and yes, I did watch Harry & Meghan's, but like you recorded it so I could skip all the boring commentating. I did think the American priest/reverend was a bit OTT, however the guests didn't know whether to laugh or cry lol. Don't they make a lovely couple. Will MD have a summer or winter wedding? I wish I could go to Barcelona, it really is a beautiful city, but always very busy and take care of handbags, purses, wallets etc. as there are plenty of pick pockets, like any major city I suppose. Tiqets is quite a good site to get online tickets, we did that for a couple of places we visited last year in Italy, it does skip some of the queues. I haven't been on the cable car, or the beach in Barcelona so it looks like we have another trip to come.
Aero is now going through the night, that is such a bonus. He fell into our swimming pool yesterday accidentally, I saw him go under the water and then come up and he was swimming, but then went under again. It seemed like minutes but was only in fact a few seconds until we could grab him to get him out. The adventure sent him completely doolally! So excited he was and ended up jumping up and giving me a nasty bite on my arm. I know he didn't mean it but it bloody hurts still and carried on bleeding for a while.
We have some exciting, but surprising, news. We will be having another grandchild next January (so a capricorn like me). When told I didn't now how to react as GD is only 8 months old now so will be 17 months when the new baby arrives. Maybe a bit too soon but I guess they will have to manage with 2 toddlers. I know it's very early days yet but hopefully all will be ok. I was sent a video of GD giggling away which was so lovely. I feel a trip to see her must be soon.
How are you both Lisa and Nicky? I was surprised when I googled that the liver only takes a couple of weeks to be back to normal size. It will no doubt take you longer to recover.
All for now Love Carole xxx
Hi girls, how are you all? Well it was a busy weekend with the wedding and the footy to watch. Were you watching any of them? It was hard to miss to be honest. I watched most of the wedding later, on record as I was going out just after the vows. It was amusing to see them all trying no to laugh at the very animated sermon. He was very passionate about his point, compared to the usual clergy we see at these events. I enjoyed seeing all the outfits and celebs arriving at the start. I was trying to work out what sort of colour and outfit I should try to get for our next wedding. Did I tell you we have another one, MD this time, next Easter. Victor suggested I could re-use one of my others. NO chance. We are starting looking for wedding dresses soon she says, as she has no idea what style she wants or will suit her. Unlike the rest of us girls in the family she is very slim hipped and I think may suit a different style of dress. We had a street party in our road and people had gone to so much trouble, it was nice that they did it. I just went later as we were at a national flower show event, which runs locally each year. Lovely weather and I have bought rather too many plants as usual. Hoping to start the summer flower tubs tomorrow to brighten up the front of the house. Are you all planting and growing things this year? Nick you used to grow some veg, can you in this new garden? Carole how is your going as you are usually ahead of the UK?
Well my trip is back on so everyone start telling me everything I need to know about and see in Barcelona, so no need to sympathise Lisa. We go in just over a week so there's a lot to sort out quite quickly. I have printed off a few things which suggest itineries of places to visit. I didn't realise there was a cable car, have any of you visited and been on it?They have all sorts of discount cards you can buy ahead but its not very clear if they are worth getting. Nicky hope everything is continuing to improve and feel more comfortable to do al the things you want to. Any news on what you will have next, regimewise or a bit of a break to make sure you have recovered enough to start? Have you got an idea about what you hope to do next? I know you are really good at reading up so I am sure you will have your own thoughts about what is next. I could see a number of paths from this point so i guess there will be quite a debate. Its brilliant that there are so many more options to consider. I am so pleased for you. Hugs Lily xx
Hey Nicky that is great news. So presumably your liver is now cancer free? How odd that you've had a different type of BC with the liver. Is the hormone treatment now treating the bones secondary? I'm glad you have managed to get out and about, although don't go overdoing it just yet.
Lily you do have a lot on your hands with your Mum and Uncle, as well as a family and a full time job. Are you getting on ok with your new computer? Fingers crossed for your Barcelona trip. It was the F1 yesterday in Barcelona and I have lucky friends who went to watch.
Lisa, I really want to see the Avengers film, I love all those fantasy action movies. Great news that you lost over half a stone in weight, well done.
Our weather ranges from being hot and sunny one day to very wet and chilly the next, no two days are the same. I feel sorry for all the holidaymakers that come to our region because they must feel so disappointed. When it's dry our region is beautiful. We've had our woodburner on a few times in the last week. Looks like I will be ordering more wood
Little pups is doing very well he now is clean and dry all through the night from 23.00 to 09.00 so not bad. He is 19 weeks old today. He still mouths at us but the kong bone we fill with treats helps keep him quiet for a while. I will see if I can post a photo of him,
I had better go and get dressed, but it's so cold and wet I think I will need to find some winter clothes which I packed away last week when I thought the Spring had arrived Love to all Carole xxx
Hi buddies, how was your weekend? Carole are you ok, been a bit quiet recently. Hopefully enjoying family home and catching up on jobs. Lisa what's keeping you busy that late in the evenings? Are you bringing work home or making more jewellery? Are you still doing as much? You ahven't mentioned it for a while. Well Barcelona may be back on again hooray. Will keep you posted. Mum is getting tricky and so emotional that its difficult to do or say the right thing. Telling her I am doing anything especially holidays is a minefield. Still, we still have her so will keep trying to keep her on a more even keel if at all possible. My uncle managed to make all the circuit breakers go and I have been spooning mushy potato out of his freezer. His dementia means he doesn't know when anything is wrong, no matter how many times I ask. Would have helped if mum had told me he was boling water to make her a cup of tea. Anyway he is overjoyed that the lights and everything work on the fridge and looks at his kettle as though it is a miracle when it boils, which was very sweet and made me laugh.
Nick I think you and I dx years back that you might have 2 types of bc going on. Maybe you and I should become consultants lol! I am like you never thought about margins until they told me they were ok and thought I would have been devastated if they had said there weren't, as unprepared for it. As you say it might easily have been a different result that they told you they had got most of it but not all. That was a spectacular result then, well done. They took other parts of your liver too, so do they have the same triple neg dx or were they hormone positive? Maybe it had just changed and you picked the perfect time to catch it.This is very useful information for the team. How do they feel about the triple neg part of it, Is there any merit to having some chemo or can they say the op got everything so its all hormone treatments now? I feel like you are in a really good place, had so much surgery and the procedures to get to this amazing point. It has been such good news and you were so brave to see it all through. I also think there are a lot of questions too, as always. I know you will be on the case. After all you are on a very different pathway now following the surgery. Its the marathon for you now 🙂 Love Lily xx
Nicky glad to see you are doing so well, it's like a new release when you can drive yourself. Results seem surprising but it's very good that you've had the op and can now look at alternative treatments. Xx
Carole, glad your having a break from dog duties, well sharing the load and nice having family around.
Lily, really feel for you missing out on Barcelona. Need to get looking for next school holiday and sorry to hear about your mum dramas and sun dramas lol
nothing much to report here, been working till aroun 11pm every evening so tired, but sorry to say it's been glorious here today so sat in sun sipping prosecco which isn't going to help the diet. Lost 9lb this week, first week big loss so not thinking will have any success this week.
took my niece to avengers she likes things like that, strangely I enjoyed it but looking forward to Mellisa McCarthy more with friends tomorrow night.
well better go and see how my freckles are reacting to the sun lol. Love lisa x
Well, what happened to the sun? It’s back to being cold and wet again after being so hot last weekend. I feel sorry for all the weddings taking place this weekend and saw some very summery dressed guests walking back to their cars from our local church earlier this afternoon. Bet they’re chilly! But at least it was before the rain started.
I hope the weather improves when you get your weekend away Lily, even though you’re not going abroad there’s plenty to see in this country, you just have to keep your fingers crossed for the weather.
Well, an update from me. I’ve now been signed off from the surgery team having made good progress. I just need to have a liver MRI as part of the research part I signed up for which will go alongside the CT scan planned as a general check to see how I’m responding to my current hormonal treatment. At least it’s been put off for a few weeks which is nice. Recovery is going well and I’m out and about driving again which makes a difference I can tell you! Just short trips here and there but no longer a prisoner in my own home and asking family and friends to get things from the shops for me. I’ve also been out and about walking more this week which has been good. The other part of my follow up appointment which was another curve ball in my long standing secondary BC saga was that I got the results back from the surgery about the histology of the removed tumour. Clear margins were taken which I hadn’t even considered, as far as I was concerned I was hoping theytook most of it away, it wasn’t thinking of margins. But strangely it turns out it was triple negative! Which explains why it’s been shrinking whilst on chemo but not responding when I go onto hormonal treatments! All very odd but it definitely made me glad that I’d made the right decision to have surgery, however long the recovery period is and the discomfort I’ve had. I don’t think it (the largest lesion) would have ever gone if it hadn’t been surgically removed. Funny though that biopsies which were taken from that lesion haven’t shown this, I just think the lesion was a mishmash which made it difficult to treat. A rogue lesion as I kept calling it Anyway. It also might mean that I still could go back to the previous hormonal I was on as everything was stable except this large lesion which wouldn’t have been surprising if it didn’t have any hormone receptors.
Thats my update for now, hope you have a good weekend, we’re not up to much, just the usual bits and pieces but it would have been nice to sit outside like we did last weekend, brrrrrr.
Hi everyone. Carole its my own silly fault so I don't deserve any sympathy. I am putting up with the after aeffects going slowly and a dodgy looking nose! YD is in a similar state. It will pass. Yes I have aloe vera and that really helped and very quickly to remove the sting but now suddenly it is making my face much redder so I am easing off it. Yes the smoking thing is tricky as its making mum have to reach for her inhaler so probably shouldn't have to put up with it. If you smoke it is very difficult to disguise especially from people who don't. Must have been nice for you to have everyone home for the bank holidays. How is your daughter getting on?
Well Barcelona is off as a work crisis means we can't go that weekend and then I have to be back at work boooo. So it looks like a UK break, possibly Cambridge or Oxford in the running at the moment. I guess at least I won't need to watch the sun so much as abroad. I am disapppointed but have said I am still owed a birthday trip in another school holiday instead. We will see. I read your Barcelona review Carole oh it did sound nice 😞
Lisa have you started the dreaded diet you mentioned? Its tough going to make progress isn't it? Good luck. Nicky how have your appointments gone? Will they scan the liver to see what's happening at intervals or let you have a bit of peace for a bit longer? Are you driving now? Will be lovely to have your independence back I am sure. Better buzz off love Lily xx
Lily, so sorry to hear you are suffering after enjoying a bit of sun and sea, hope it doesn't keep it going for too long. Aloe vera is good for sunburn, the real stuff is best. Mine came from New Zealand and is a very good quality. It's also good for insect bites and sore skin in general.
Sorry to hear about your Mum's problems. Surely if the carer had been smoking in her own time there isn't much you can do? I think she might be entitled to a fag break, but not sure particularly if the smell distresses your Mum. Difficult that one. I also dislike the smell of someone who has been smoking but not for health reasons, just find it unpleasant, even though I used to smoke!
Your pup sounds lovely cuddling up to the cats. Our boy just wants to play with them, but the oldest 2 at 15 (gosh they've just had a birthday) doesn't want to play. When they are sleeping he is fine and doesn't pester, it's just when they are walking around. The collar is not a shock, it lets of a beep that only the dog should hear, and also I think it vibrates too. I suppose he will grow out of it one day but it is annoying. As yet he doesn't bark at the sound of other people or someone coming to the door, like you say that is a good bark.
Our bank holidays this week are tomorrow and Thursday. A lot of businesses shut down for most of the week. Mr P and YD are both here at the moment which is nice. A bit of a break for me from pup duty lol.
Lily Barcelona is fantastic, definitely one I could go back to again and again. I loved the Cathedral Sagrada Familial, which is still in the process of being restored. It is awesome. The shopping is great too and there is a big Department Store, El Corte Ingles in the main square that offers tourists discounts in you produce your passport. Well, it did the last time I was there which is about 6 years ago. There is a lot to see there and I still don't think we saw everything either time we have been there. I would love to go with Mr P to see the Barcelona Grand Prix. I'm thinking of looking at this for Mr P's special birthday next year. We are lucky, it only takes approximately 4 1/2 hours for us to drive to Barcelona. I am sure you will love it.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone. Nicky take care and Lisa what are you up to? Love Carole
veryone, how are you this lovely long weekend? Carole, we have a bank holiday and 4 days of sun so enjoying the extra day this weekend. es we had our heating back on too. A strange year weatherwise again already. No I haven't used that type of colour but haven't been put to the test like you have been. Glad its not a shock one as they seem unkind but maybe I just don't know enough about them to judge. Just know I wouldn't like it done to me. I have a barking dog too, if anyone dares to come up the path but I do allow that most of the time as it lets people know we have dog security! Our dog was brought up with a cat who used to carry the pups around so she loves and respects them. When she stays at dogsitters they are always amazed that their cats cuddle up with her. Just experience when young I think and giving off the right signals.
Lisa I am glad you have some antibiotics to clear the bad chest. I wouldn't give it another thought if it is dx as bronchitis and clears up, only an infection would with the tablets. When you work out the easy way to lose weight, write a book and you will be a millionaire. I think every year you get older, your metabolism slows. So no hope for me ha ha. I did see that 10 year anniversary slide in, well done and I am very pleased they gave you a clean bill of health. Now go out there and have some fun. Mum has descended into the worst state after deciding she does not like her new carer. The woman seems absolutely fine to me. Yesterday she turned up and had been smoking and that was the final straw. I'm not sure how the land lies on that matter. Mum has chronic asthma and smoking is the number one cause of that condiditon but is the woman supposed to have her own rights? I really don't know. i did think the poor... probably needed one to pluck up courage to go back in, after a very tough week with her!!! I dread the next day's episode. Carole I am empathising with you throughout all this. Nicky the bluebells are so pretty aren't they? The bottom of my garden is a sea of them although the pink and white versions are trying to take over a bit. You would think the blue would be strongest in a plant battle? How are you feeling now? Has it been better or a bit worse as you try to do more things? Be careful and don't rush it.
Well I sneaked in a long weekend break to the coast and just back today, fried skin unfortunately from a sea breeze that didn't alert me to the climbing temperature. Very silly and I could kick myself, very uncomfortable and serves me right. Jolly lucky it wasn't warm enough to take many clothes off! I am currently looking for another slightly longer break later this month. Just been online and found a lot to Spain, mainly Barcelona/Salou. Has anyone been? ED is always saying you must go to Barcelona. Found some good deals online for £200 half board for 4 nights in big hotles , so thinking about it. With the highest factor cream ever now I know what sunburn feels like. Never again!! WEll better buzz off as catching up on work. Hugs. Lily xx
Enjoy the sunny Bank Holiday weekend - all of you who are in the UK of course. Just pottering around for us, which is nice plus a trip out to see the bluebells which we do every year, luckily we have lots of bluebell woods near us so it’s not like it’s too far to go. That and a bit of gardening should do the trick - but no heavy stuff for me, will leave that to OH.
Hi all, I'm alive sorry work has been exhausting and plus had bronchitis again, had 5 days of pills but not quite cleared it. Looked at my records and it's the 4th time in 2 years, I seems to spend months trying to get the tail end of the cough away, then it's comes back, hopefully nothing sinister as pills do seem to help. Had 10 year check up too. Nothing to report here just work work and more work. Diet started yesterday as gained over 2 stone and look hideous but just cutting down on everything, I just couldn't get into it when I felt lousy with coughing, no sleep and long hours but turned a corner hopefully.
nicky, it's amazing how well your doing, take it easy when first driving, maybe a wee cushion to protect yourself, or keep being shipped and chauffeured around xx
lily, dog sick from grass is just as uk eh.... have you booked a holiday yet? I'm having holiday blues already lol.
carole, sounds like pup is keeping you very busy.glad weather is a little better. But brighter here today and love light nights 😍.
better go and have a cuppa and to for an hour, rock and rock lifestyle lol
Hi everyone, after a few wet, cold, grey miserable days we have full sun today and blue sky, so I hope the weather is kinder to you all as well? I have even had the wood burner on in the evenings. Incredible for May.
Aero is finally getting the picture of how the household works. Except for the cats! He thinks they are his playmates and terrorises them. I've ordered an anti barking collar that vibrates (not the shock type) to try and stop his barking at them. He doesn't bark at anything else, just the cats. If you could see the way he gets one of them, the youngest and fattest one, he pins him down to the floor. Of course this is not the way to behave so I'm finding distraction is quite good at stopping him. However, the cat seems to want to come back for more Having had a pup Lily have you used a collar like this and more to the point did it work?
Lily I do sympathise with you for your Mum. I don't know if they moan because they have nothing else to say or if it is genuinely a problem. Every day for the last week everytime I phone my Mum she always says the same thing "I don't feel right but I don't know what is wrong with me". Last Thursday she went out to a new day centre for lunch and to play bingo and meet people to chat to. This is the only day in the last week she has sounded ok, quite chirpy and actually enjoyed the day centre. She says she has tried to phone the doctor but doesn't get through. I believe this is because she is so impatient that she hangs up after just a few rings. When I've phoned her doctor I've never had any problems. I despair!!!
Better get on, hope everyone is feeling ok? Love Carole
Hi girls, how are you all. Carole there is no hope for us if it is rainy over you! It was so nice to have some really hot weather but then to lose it again grrrr. Well at least the giant wasps have gone back to wherever they came from. Mum has just had the next cataract done and is very low about the discomfort and quite difficult. I thought she would know what to expect and be ready for it. She asked me to bury her under the tree, right now. I said well it was a waste of a lot of money if you are not even going to use your new vision. I really find that side of her old age difficult to cope with. She went out of her way to go privately instead of a reasonably short wait on the NHS, got what she wanted and its still so .... The dog has been eating grass so I'm wondering how long I have until that starts coming back up again. Better not go to bed too early.
Nicky you are doing so well. It never ceases to amaze me how fast the body can recover from major surgery. i know it might feel slower to you but I think it is really quick. Nice to start getting out and even better when you can drive yourself. Lisa how are you? Did you have a hospital appointment or where you thinking about one coming up? Bet its horrible to come back to work. Are you very busy with all the changes? Love Lily xx
