I had mx with mesh and implant recon 3 years ago and at the time felt exactly the same as you ladies. I can assure you it does eventually feel ok, always numb but you do stop noticing it eventually but I’m afraid it was over a year before this was the case! I do run again now with a good sports bra but for everyday wear I just use non wired padded bras which I find very comfortable. Have had some very comfortable ones from Asda!
It is important to do the exercises and be careful not to lift anything heavy for a long time. I can now do pretty much anything again with that arm but wouldn’t risk press ups! I was off work for 8.5 weeks after op (I’m a primary teacher) Good luck with your recovery! Xx
Hi all!
Well, the relief of a bra that fits. I was able to walk around and breathe without discomfort, so I wore one of them out of the store!. They found a really comfortable one that holds in place while I'm asleep and a couple of less restrictive ones for day to day wear.
I am still 2 cups sizes bigger, but hoping that this will settle down. I would recommend the service at M&S they were able to find a few different non-wired ones that were suitable. (the assistant seemed surprised that the hospital hadn't sent me home with one!?).
Like you Sammycc feeling better every day, walks are getting longer, daytime snoozes are a rarity. Ready to get on with the next phase.
best wishes.
Hilary
Hi Sammycc/MrsR
Just spotted your posts, I had double mx with braxon recon 5 weeks ago, and was starting to feel slightly depressed as I don't feel like I used to, managed to climb the stairs yesterday with a bit of a spring in my step, but that is as far as the movement goes. I too used to run daily before so am just waiting/hoping it will get better. I am going into M&S tomorrow to get measured for a post surgery bra, I've been wearing high impact sports bra that was recommended by the breast care nurses, but it doesn't really fit me!! I finally slept on my side last night with a t-shirt stuffed down the cleavage of the bra to support the upper foob.
I keep being told it will take time.
How are you both feeling now?
Hilary
Hi, I use Nicola Jane, they have a website but I live near enough to visit their shop in Chichester Sussex. There are other brands! I used to think I would not need special bras with the recon, but the physiotherapist suggested it because bras which are designed to keep a prosthesis in position also give good support to an implant. You may find you don't need this, but it helped me a lot. I'm a 32C/D. It also does just get better in time. For the first few months I wore a comfy bra at night, otherwise I was aching in the morning, but never do that now. I'm still a bit aware of the breast feeling different, but I can jump about and be as active as I want and don't think about it most of the time xx
Hi Sammycc, I had an implant recon 3 years ago and it felt like you describe at first. It got better, but mine took a few months. The two things which made a huge difference for me were doing the Pink Ribbon physiotherapy exercises, to get strength back in the muscles which have been moved, and also getting fitted with mastectomy bras which help support the implant and make a huge difference to the comfort. Hope you feel more comfortable soon. Good luck xx
