Declining breast cancer treatment from the cancer professional's perspective (Univ of East London)

What is the title of the project?

Declining breast cancer treatment from the cancer professionals perspective

What is the project about?

This project intends to explore how cancer professionals (surgeons, oncologists and clinical nurse specialists) understand and respond to a woman’s decision to forgo recommended cancer treatment that may be curative or life sustaining.

Who is organising it?

Jennifer Lennon, University of East London, u1945489@uel.ac.uk

What are the criteria for taking part?

You may be eligible for taking part if you or someone close to you has decided not to undergo treatments recommended by oncology professionals.

What do I need to do?

I am hoping for support in designing this study. I will be interviewing oncology professionals to learn about what they think lies behind a woman’s decision to forgo cancer treatment.

I am interested in whether women who decided against having treatment are responded to differently within health care systems. Although I am interviewing health care professionals, I want to include the voices of women who have declined cancer treatment within this project.

I am hoping to speak with individuals who have declined treatment to hear about their experiences and to incorporate their perspectives when designing interview questions and when analysing interviews. If you are interested in sharing your thoughts and experiences with me, we could arrange a way to speak that suits you-either by email, phone or online (i.e. Zoom)
