Re: 2nd op to get more margin - nipple removal

Hello again

glad you are done and recovering. I only made my decision on type of surgery on mon so awaiting a date now... just want it over with!! I’m so glad you are positive, tbh I struggle with negative blather and am trying desperately to be upbeat. It’s good your body is recovering fast and it’s almost 22nd - everything crossed!! It seems your op and results have happened fast - yay xx

Re: 2nd op to get more margin - nipple removal

Thank you lovely 🙂

the op went well and I have recovered really quickly thank goodness. I have my follow up appointment for the results on the 22nd. I hope that yours went well too?
I also started my injections this week for the egg freezing process, just in case any future cancer treatment affects my fertility. I may not need to have chemo (awaiting the oncotype test results first) but greatful that I’ve got the chance to preserve my fertility just in case.
What a nightmare this all is for us during these times! But I’m unusually positive about it all and want to crack on with whatever I need to do to beat this!
thanks for reaching out 🙂 it means a lot.

Hi Jo - sorry you are going through this nightmare. I have to have a second op too - it’s such a disappointment. I’m different to you as mine is in top quartile so I can’t help regards the nipple questions. I just wanted to say good luck and stay on the forums to connect to like minded people going through very similar and scary stuff

stay strong, you have totally got this

Re: 2nd op to get more margin - nipple removal

Hi Jo - a big welcome to this lovely forum, but I’m very sorry that you have had the diagnosis. Good news that it was found early and you had surgery very quickly.

I’m sorry I can’t help with your specific question, but I hope to bump up your post so that others will see it and advise. You may also want to think about calling the lovely nurses on here.

If I can help with any other questions, please do ask. I wish you all the best for your treatment, and hope they sort it out quickly. Hugs, Evie xx

2nd op to get more margin - nipple removal

Hi All,

I am new to all of this, so please bare with me with the lack of technical terms!
I am 29 years old and was diagnosed with early invasive ductual breast cancer on the 3rd December. I was very lucky to have had surgery on the 22nd Dec to remove the 12mm tumour. However after receiving my results yesterday, (lymph nodes clear) they told me it was bigger than expected - 33mm. They managed to get a big clear margin around most of the tumour, but as it was growing towards my nipple, they couldn’t get enough margin on a small section of it. They told me that they would have to do another op to get more margin which would unfortunately be Removing my whole nipple. I am fine with this however worried about what happens if they find cancer cells in the nipple itself? They said that they found some pre cancer cells in the small margin that they got from that part, but I suppose this is to be expected since it was right near the tumour ?
Has anybody been through a similar experience ?
Thanks,

Jo
