That sounds like a very sensible and good decision you've made. I wish you all the best for your surgeries - do come back on here if you need hugs nearer the time or support, or message me privately if that helps. xx
Hi Snoozysuz - I just wondered how you are getting on with your decision making?

Apologies if I am being dense, but why aren't they doing recon on both breasts at the same time? Sorry if I have missed something.
I have small breasts, and my implant doesn't at all match my real one. I'm a B cup in the real one and a D/E in the implant - the surgeon didn't choose the right size but I don't want another op to even them up, not yet anyway. I use a prosthethis to even things up so you can't really tell under clothes. Yes it bothers me at times, but most of the time it doesn't. Even though it doesn't match, I'm still glad that I went for an implant because of the recovery. I was back driving within I think 4 weeks (I also had node clearance). I would have expected that if you are having both breasts done that they would be able to make them match.
I'm not sure what they mean by "failing" - are you having radiotherapy? If so they always warn of capsular contracture of an implant from the radio. I think that means that it goes all hard. Could you call your BCN to discuss the pros and cons of the various options?
It's a very personal decision and I know there are lots supporters of the back/tummy options. Try putting LD flap or Diep into the search on here and you should find all the discussions.
All the very best to you. And again, I'm very happy to chat more if I can help.

Hi Snoozysuz
First of all I'm going to send you a big hug. Not surprised you feel emotional with all that is going on.
I had a single mastectomy and an implant, not an expander, but I'm happy to give any info on that if it helps at all. It's not quite the same, but I imagine similar in terms of recovery. I chose it because of the quicker recovery.
Like JuliaA I didn't want to just read and run - I hope that our replies will bump your question up and someone else will come along who has had the LD flap (I think that's the name for the back muscle op) or expander.
As I say, I'm very happy to share my experience. The best advice I received was to take one day or even one hour at a time when the going got really tough.
