Hi all
just a quick update from my hospital bed. Lumpectomy and SNB went well today. Surgeon was pleased so I take that as a positive sign! In some mild pain and discomfort, mainly under my arm. I have a drip and 1 drain so am staying in tonight and possibly tomorrow (although I really really want to be at home!)
not seen the breast scar yet, just the bruising on my upper arm.
1 big step closer today. Now another wait to see if margins and SN are good.
Good luck to all you ladies booked for surgery in next weeks. We can do this!
hugs to you all
Sarah x
Good luck on 16th . You’ll be fine xx💕
Hi Jac67
pleased your op went well. It gives me positivity for my lumpectomy on the16th. I’m also intolerant to codeine and opiate based medication. Makes me vomit and have severe helicopter head! Hope your recovery is going well and you are managing your post op exercises. 🤞for good results xx
Hi
Im going to have blue dye apparently - May end up with a blue stain on my boob that stays 😂
xx
Hi
Im pleased your surgery is done and you are starting to feel better 😊. Fingers crossed for your results. 🤞.
Take care for now xxx
Don’t think I got the blue dye . Did mention I had some allergy’s . Nodes were taken . They did say clear on biopsy but they double check . Not sure how accurate biopsy is . Xx
Hi
Lumpectomy on Wednesday went in at 8 . Had wire and injection for nodes . All was quite simple everyone was lovely . Operation at 2 back on ward at 4 . Home for 6 . Been feeling well but tender . But took an allergy to cocodamal so that set me back . But much better today . So paracetamol now . Just the wait for results now . 💕
Hi - won’t be too long for you either. 😊. I’m trying to keep fit and healthy before surgery. Walking everyday (helps with my anxiety!) and eating healthily. Sure it all helps.
xx
Hi Mel
Thanks for your good wishes. I’m going to be the week after you now, the 16th, gives me an extra week to build myself up. The 9th will soon be here for you. Stay well and keep your distance from anyone with bugs, colds etc.
Take care x
Hi DiKat
I hope everything goes well at your present op next week 😊.
Let is know.
Im in countdown to my surgery now. Can’t come quick enough.
Hugs Mel x
Hi
Hope your bloods come back ok and your surgery date can be arranged. Your plan sounds similar to mine although I haven’t started hormone therapy yet.
Let us know how everything goes.
Hugs Mel x
Good luck for your blood test tomorrow jewels994. It’s important that your bloods are all in the normal ranges so that your body is strong for surgery. I have my pre op assessment next week so hoping all is well as my last chemo was only 10th April.
Take care x
Hopefully my surgery will be soon. I’ve got a blood test tomorrow to check my iron levels are up, and an appointment with the surgeon on May 8th. Originally my surgery was expected to be mid April, but at my pre op blood test I was found to be anaemic. My treatment plan is wire guided WLE with sentinel node biopsy followed by radiotherapy. I’ve already started tamoxifen but may change to another hormone treatment after surgery.
Sorry you have found yourself here Louann but like Mel says, good that your mammogram has picked it up. Do you know if you will need any further treatment? Good luck for the 9th x
Hi Louann
i hope your surgery goes well 😊 and really good it’s been found early.
Hugs Mel x
I’m having a lumpectomy on Tuesday 8th May to remove high grade DCIS in my left breast. This was picked up on my 3rd yearly mammogram so very early.
Hi DiKat
That’s wonderful that the lump has responded so well to chemo. We may well be having surgery in the same day as mine is planned for the 9th too. Hopefully your bloods and immune system will be recovered enough for surgery to go ahead on the 9th.
I must say I have give mastectomy some thought as my initial view was to get rid of the whole thing. My BCN however said this would be a very drastic measure given the size of the tumour and my surgeon said there is no evidence of any better clinical outcome. I decided to concede to the knowledge of the experts and follow their plan. I share your anxiety about reoccurrence but I need to remind myself to go with the here and now and what I know to be fact at this time.
Surgery can’t come quick enough!
Have a good day everyone 🤗x
Morning
Hope everyone is doing ok.
I saw the surgeon yesterday. I will be having my surgery on either the 9th or 16th May depending on how quickly my immune system/bloods recover from the last cycle of chemo I had. On examination, surgeon said she couldn’t feel my lump. Yay 😁
I’m going to have a lumpectomy and she said she intends to take 4 lymph nodes. Radiotherapy will follow approx 8 weeks later. The surgery should be a day case, no drain and scarring should be minimal as she will cut around the outside of my nipple. She felt in my case that there was absolutely no need for a mastectomy as this route was just as effective according to clinical trials/research etc. We discussed why I thought I might like a mastectomy and it all came down to my anxieties about self examination, feeling lumps in either breast and fear of recurrence. She reassured me saying that if I have any anxieties I can directly contact the unit and come and get checked out. She said a good rule with any worries, pain, discomfort anywhere in my body is give it 4 weeks and if it hasn’t gone get it checked out. I have come to my decision because I feel at this stage, due to what my body has been through with the chemo I don’t want to put my body through more surgery than I need to and I know I need to work on my mental state re fears of the future. Realistically I know if I did have a mastectomy I would still worry about secondary’s elsewhere etc. And obviously I can’t have every organ in my body removed. I’m relieved I have come to a decision and understand that we’re all different as our cancers are all different so we have to do what we feel right along with the guidance of the experts. I’m just so grateful that my body has responded so well to the chemo.
Have a lovely day everyone 💕🤗
Hi Linda
im glad to hear rads wasn’t too bad. I do dread the thought of chemo but if I have to have it then I do. I have already ordered some comfy seamless bralettes (after reading another post on rads). I have to travel nearly an hour to the hospital for rads so good tip to allow time for parking!
I too hope your mamma is ok on the 9th 🤞
Mel xx
Hi Mel,
Rads is fine apart from being strange at first. I think my nipple is swollen as a vein in it looks abot lumpy but surgeon doesn't seem worried about it. Am trying a more comfy bra as maybe that will help but I finished 3 months ago now. It didn't really make me tired but I was working full time so maybe fell asleep or went to bed early at night. It just becomes routinue to go every day. Just leave lots of time as I was late the first time as took ages to park but then I sorted out parking at a colleagues house which is what I should have done for rads too as had done that beforehand for other appointments.
Just hopey mammogram is ok on the 9th on the side I am having the op.
Hope you just need rads as chemo is Hell on Earth.x
Hi Sarah
i too have grade 2 IDC hormone positive but HER 2 negative. You are right- the waiting is the worst - just want the surgery to get it out!
Gosh 1-2 night stay! I’ll be going in as a day case!
Good luck with your surgery and treatment.
keep in touch.
Hugs Mel xx
Hi Melanie
my surgery is 30th April, lumpectomy and SNB. Next treatment will be decided after they’ve checked the lymph nodes. I have grade 2 IDC Hormone positive.
Would be good to share experiences. I live in Switzerland so my surgery will be here, 1-2 night stay here even for lumpectomy!
good luck with your treatment, the waiting is the hardest isn’t it?
hugs
Sarah
Hi Linda
thank You for your reply. Really pleased to hear your SLNB was clear and lovely you are meeting up with others! This forum is fab for connecting with others going through similar experiences. I’m not sure if I will need chemo yet - will depend on post biopsy results. The plan at the mo ent is for Radiotheraphy- how did you find it? Is it tiring?
Mel x
That should read a therapeutic mammoplasty so my boobs match and I am having mastopexy or a lift.
Hey,
Not sure if I qualify for this thread as I am having mastery of a lift so my blobs will match. I finished dads in Jan after having chemo from May to Sept last year then a therapeutic angioplasty in October. I am now on Letrozole. My op is on 20th May and pre op and mammogram on the one being operated on on 9th May. I am still in touch with May chemo 2018 peeps and meeting people from May surgery 2018 on 11th May in Birmingham. I also had SLNB in April 2018 and that was clear. My surgery is at the Marsden in Sutton as I got a second opinion as I was being sent to another local hospital to see if a DIEP done immediately ideally was an option as I was initially having a mastectomy. Happy to answer any questions.

Def a massive curve ball! I never expected myself to be in this position but I am so have no choice but to go along for the ride! I have to say these forums are fantastic and offer so much support. I’m lucky as have good family and friends but they can never fully appreciate what this diagnosis feels like.Thats why I find it so helpful sharing stories with ladies going through the same.
I hope you are able to enjoy some celebrations for your 50th 😊.
Thats awesome you enjoyed going out without your wig 😃.
Hugs to you too 🤗 x
It’s a great pic. Sorry you have found yourself here at a young age. I’m 49, 50 in July and this really wasn’t what I had planned for my 50th celebrations. It’s a pretty big curve ball isn’t it. However, I’ve found the support of these forums invaluable. We all help each other through this 💩 as we are the only ones that can truly understand. I post regularly in the Dec2018 monthly chemo thread. The weather has been fabulous this weekend, even braved going out without my wig for the first time. Glad you’ve had a nice time with family and friends. Sending hugs 🤗 xx
Hi DiKit
Im so pleased you are having a good response to your chemo. I appreciate your words of advice and think you are right about taking one day at a time. I’m definitely trying to focus on the here and now and what I know to be factual at this point. I can’t stress about what ifs yet 😊 .
I am 45 - that pic was taken last year and is with the inspirational Giles Clark from the Big Cat Sanctuary. I’m going again in July.
Have enjoyed lovely weekend with friends and family. Hope you’ve enjoyed the weekend too 😊xx
Hi 3331melanie
I have had a difficult time with the chemo tbh. Unfortunately suffered lots of side effects. However, everyone is different so please don’t let my difficulties put you off. The main thing is, it’s doable and fingers crossed, I appear to have had a good response.
I was diagnosed Nov 2018 and started chemo in December. I am stage 3 left breast her2 positive with multiple lymph nodes involved. My tumour started out at 26mm but latest MRI which was after chemo5 showed it had reduced to 8mm. I will also be having radiotherapy after surgery. I will update once I’ve seen the surgeon. My best advice is just to take one stage of treatment at a time.
Hope you’ve enjoyed the lovely sunny weekend. You look really young in your pic xx
Thanks Mel will do 💕xx
Hi Jac67
Best wishes too you as well. Will be thinking of you. Let us know how it goes when you feel up to it.
Mel x
Hi I have same diagnosis as yourself. My op is on Wednesday. Best wishes Jackie xx
Hi DiKit
thanks for your reply. I have grace 2 IDC, hormone positive, HER 2 negative. They plan to do lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy then radiotherapy and tamoxifen. Chemo will be depend on biopsy results.
Hope your chemo has gone well - did you have many side effects? What’s the rest of your plan like?
Would be great to keep in touch.
Best wishes to you too and hope your appointment with the surgeon goes well.x
Hi Mel
I’m seeing the surgeon on Tuesday and will be having my surgery in May. I’ve just finished 6 rounds of chemo. Are you having surgery first? What is your treatment plan?
Will be nice to connect, best wishes x
Hi
Im booked to have lumpectomy on 9th May. Would love to connect with other ladies who are due surgery next month too 😊
