Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Hello Ladies

I'm going to have my first chemo on the ROSCO trial on Thursday 24th! Going to be doing the TC. Had 4 teeth removed on Friday in preparation for the zoledronic acid later, and to be honest that has scared me more than anything so far! Probably because I knew how sore I would be after. Though now the chemo is getting closer I will admit to being a little nervous, especially now I know it will be an all day treatment 6 hours in total!

In the last couple of days, I've been having pain discomfort in the armpit, feels like it is swelling. Though I can't feel any lumps and neither could the surgeon. I guess the chemo will take care of that!

Any advice on passing the time on Thursday? Hubby will be more bored than I am!

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Hi Ladies...Hope you are all well and coping with your treatment.  As i prevously stated i hap 4 FEC and had no problems with it.  Had 1 TC...became very ill resulting in being admited to hospital for 8 days...iv antibiotics..fluids etc....treated for Neutropenic Sepsis.    Ultrasound showed no more shrinkage.  Booked in for mx with Diep reconstruction at end of month.  Decided not to have anymore chemo, wanted to build myself up for my operation and if im truthful...kind of scared to have anymore TC even though they offer a reduced dose.  On a happier note....I now have baby fluff hair Smiley Happy

Update on my missing coil.....ultrasound showed it still there...went in for Hysteroscopy to remove it......not there!!!!  Anyone seen it!!! Smiley Happy

Just back from oncology appointment.  As planned will def have radiotherapy after operation but talking more Chemo Smiley Sad   If I stick to trial it will be TC (not keen) or other option is off trial with different chemo,  also hormone tablets.  so bye bye hair again Smiley Sad,  but if it gets totally rid of this then small price to pay.

anyone had similar experience

Hello Mel!
Yes Mary had complete response. I naively thought I would too but alas no, I had to go for another 4 cycles. It really disappointed me!

How are you getting on with the Tax? When is your surgery? Feel free to ask anything. I'm all done now & have just completed the Moving Forward course which was FANTASTIC.

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Hi Jo...so sorry FEC made you ill....I am so lucky that i havent had any side affects....apart from rapid hair loss at day 15...had it shaved off after that .  Yes i see my surgeon on Tuesday and 3rd cycle wednesday.  As yet not had any updated imaging done but presume will soon .  Unless plan has changed...depending how well FEC has worked planning on surgery then radiotherapy.... I had lymph node biopsy done prior to starting treatment and like yourself 1 node was affected

I cant imagine how you felt having had TC then sugery then having to go through FEC then radiotherpy

I know we suffer from Chemo brain....but i cannot for the life of me remeber where i lost my coil Smiley Happy.    awaiting appointment for ultrasound and GA for camera and investigation/removal.

how are you coping with radiotherapy?

sending love and hugs xx

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Hello Maggy!
How is it going for you? I hated fec as I had the TC first & got on ok with it. Fec made me feel ill! I can assure you that it will be working though. You should be due for an ultrasound soon I think? I couldn't feel my lump after 2 TC & at surgery it had halved in size plus only one node involved thank god.

Are you planned in for surgery yet? You'll feel alot better about things when they cut the bloody thing out!

Sorry to hear you've losteonecrosis your mirena. Do you have any idea where you lost it? I hope you find it soon... 😂

I'm halfway through my radiotherapy now but feel free to shout out if you need any help (or sarcastic comments)

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Hi Jay!
Looks like there's only 3 of us! Mary has finished hers & I've got 1 more chemo on Friday & I'm done Yay!
I had the TC first, was good, really did it's job but yes there are side effects obviously & everyone is different. Tumour shrank alot after just 2 cycles & I could no longer feel it. Surgery was not too bad. Worse bit was having a drain in for 10 days.
Then on to the FEC. Which ive hated. Again everyone is different & I've not had it as bad as some ladies.
Let me know if you're unsure of anything. I'm more than happy to chat.
One thing I will say is it's a long slog. Bear that in mind if you are employed & check how long your sick pay will last (mine ran out!). It's tough on you too. It's added 6 weeks to my treatment and I've lost my hair for the 2nd time. By the way it grew back fairly quickly after the last chemo of the first 4 TC. But heartbreaking to lose it all again.

Let me know how it goes & when you start. It's really important to be able to talk to someone who's been through this c**p

Take care

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Hi Jo. Sorry to hear that FEC has given you some unpleasant side effects. Do you have another 3 to go?

My skin is holding out well. I've been using simple soap to wash and E45 to moisturise. I hope it continues! I'm glad I've got the weekend free of radiotherapy. I really am struggling with fatigue. Get plenty of rest Jo and take care of yourself x x

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Hello Mary!
Oooh glad it's going good for you. I've heard it's tiring. I had my appt with the radiologist & I'm having 3 weeks followed by 1 booster week. Has it affected your skin/boob yet?
I'm doing ok. Started the fec last week which made me very nauseous & I'm tired. Standard really! But onwards & upwards. At least I know I'll be fine by June .

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Hi Jo.

Sorry for delay. I've now had 7 of the 23 radiotherapy sessions. They are easy enough but I am finding I am very tired in the evenings. How are you getting on? x

Hi Mary
Just a quickie to wish you well tomorrow. I'll be interested to see how long everything takes as I'm hoping to be back at work by then & will have to fit it in to my working day.
I expect it'll be over in a zap!

Hi Jo.  You got some good news about the margin, that's great! Sorry to hear you'll be having more chemo. Isn't FEC a bit 'kinder'? I hope it is for you anyway Smiley Happy I'm doing OK thanks. Start radiotherapy on 30th. I'm having 23 sessions so I'll let you know how I get on. Hope you're recovering well and are getting to do some nice stuff despite all of this x x

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Results day today!

Very positive as a healthy margin was taken with tumour & only 1 node was involved (I asked if they could put them back then!) However I will need more chemo so start that in Feb! Bugger! And it'll be FEC too. I got on fine with the tax!

Soooo appt with onc on 30th to discuss how many, could be 2 or 4. Another 12 weeks off work not earning fills me with dread. We'll have to wait and see.

Hope your well Mary?

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

I'm pleased to hear you're recovering Jo and not in a lot of pain. I'm sure you will feel better once the drain is out. I have appointment with surgeon on Monday and that will be four weeks post op for me. Hoping rads can start at 6 weeks. I'm healing nicely although I did get a call to say the echo I had post chemo 3 showed I have a leaky heart valve. I don't know if I had that prior to treatment... I'm waiting for a cardiology appointment to find out. I'm trying to keep busy but running out of things I can do. Hoping I'm on the homeward stretch 😊 x x

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Hi Mary,
I'm not too bad thanks! Arm feels oddly not mine but no pain in boob (which is now smaller than it was!). Felt something ping in my armpit during the night & today everything feels stiff so not sure what's going on there! I'm still producing fluid through the drain but hope to have that removed on Friday. I think I'll feel better once that's gone.
Results on the 19th so just over a week to go! Not nervous really, if I need more chemo I'll be disappointed but am prepared to do whatever I need to do to stay alive! That'll be the FEC & unfortunately will lose my hair again just as it's starting to grow back.
Hope you are recovering nicely! Have you got info on the rads yet? I was advised to have them late as poss in the day so I can go home & chill rather than go to work.
Keep me informed!

Brilliant news Mary! I'm so happy for you and what a relief!
Yes surgery for me tomorrow. Packing my bag as we speak even though I'm a day case. I like to be well prepared lol!
You'll have to let me know how the rads go. Just the thought of having them makes me tired.
Take care & I'll let you know how it goes

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Hi Jo. My results were good. The shock and relief is overwhelming. There was the tiniest residual amount of cancer cells from the shrank tumour during surgery but oncologist is happy for me to have radiotherapy to blast that away. I know you have surgery tomorrow so I hope all goes well. Please let me know how you get on when you're able to x x

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

That sounds like good shrinkage. We can only wait for the results. As you've said, it's only another 12 weeks if we need to have more chemo (yuk!). I'm in Birmingham Jo and have met another lady (at one of my appointments) who is also in the trial. I'm pleased you're going away for New Year. That should keep you nicely distracted for a few days x

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

I think it was because of the size of my tumour-was 35mm now 14mm & lymph undetectable on scan- so although it's shrunk, probably not enough. I'm happy to wait for post op results & go along with whatever they recommend.
I'm having WLE & axillary clearance on 6th Jan. Ugh. Follow up appt for results on 19th Jan. Just want to get on with it really! We've got a few days in Munich for new years to look forward to first!
Where abouts in the country are you Mary? It's interesting that only a few trusts do this trial!

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

My results might be delayed a bit because of the holidays.  I am very anxious Jo. Why did the BC nurse think you'll need more chemo? My oncologist and surgeon are quite optomistic with just four cycles. My 2cm tumour shrank very quickly and couldn't be felt after two cycles.  They don't think my lymph nodes were affected either but only those blessed results will tell me! I had a therapeutic mammoplasty as the tumour had shrank. It's been OK and not as troublesome as I thought. What type of surgery are you having? x x

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

Wow Mary you must be due your results any day now! Hope your Christmas wasnt affected too much.
I had appt with bc nurse today for pre op info. She said in her experience, it's highly likely I'll need more chemo. I'm ok with that in as much as I'll do whatever I need to do to stay alive! Another 12 weeks out of my life though & not earning but will cross that bridge when I come to it.
How are you after your surgery anyway? Did you have any issues? Xx

Re: Has anyone been on/currently on ROSCO trial?

I'm slightly ahead of you Jo. Finished cycle four of TC on 11th Nov, had surgery on 15th Dec and now anxiously awaiting results. I don't want any more chemo! x
