Itching side effect

My mum isn’t very tech savvy so posting on her frustrated behalf!

She has been having Pertuzamab, Herceptin and Anastrazole now for a number of years and her most annoying side effect is constant itching, it’s worse at night and she’s not sleeping well at all. It’s making her rather down and obviously that’s not good. Doctor just says it’s normal and has offered no options of how to ease it

Her question is does anyone on here suffer from itching and if so what do you do to ease yours? She takes antihistamines but other than that we are not sure what to do.

Hi @fergal_jay

I’ve sent a note to our nurses to ask them this question and they will come back to you as soon as possible.

Best wishes x

Hi fergal_jay

Thanks for your post.

Constant itching can be very draining, particularly when it interferes with sleep. It’s understandable that it’s getting your mum down and that you’re asking what has helped other people.

Although itching may be a normal side effect of the treatment she is on, it’s important your mums team try and resolve or relieve this to help improve her quality of life. This information on the causes and treatment for itching might be helpful to look at. Your mum could also ask her doctor if it is possible to be referred to a dermatologist (doctor who specialises in skin conditions) for an assessment and advice on what may help.

We offer a range of freesupportive servicesthat you and your mum might be interested in.
