Re: just diagnosed with secondary cancer in bones and liver

thanks for the response guys.  its quite a stressful time.

I have my husband who will come with me, he is very supportive and I can rely on him to take in all the information, I seem to drift off and cant concertrate.

Its nice to have people who know what your going through, some try to understand but they dont really know what its like.

I have posted in the bone mets thread so wilkl update tomorrow with the news from the oncologist.

thanks

Re: just diagnosed with secondary cancer in bones and liver

Ellie..........I’m glad you have come to these threads. You will find support and advice here. Have you also posted on the very open bone mets thread.............’bone mets - please join in’ ..........on the secondary page. It is very open and quite busy. If you post there you will get useful and kind replies.

i agree with your BC nurse. The treatments for secondary are different to those for primary. They may overlap, but of course more long term treatments come into play. These will depend on your oestrogen status, etc.  Secondary these days is considered a chronic disease. I’m glad you have an appt this week. Do ask lots of questions. Do you have someone who can go with you? They can listen hard and take notes!

Do do let us know how the appt goes. I have just checked the bone thread and see you have already posted there! Good idea. All the best for now,

Re: just diagnosed with secondary cancer in bones and liver

I was initially treated for BC in 2004 had surgery lymph node clearance radiotherapy and chemotherapy now have secondaries in bone and lung since feb2018 been on oral chemo ibrance have had 3 monthly scans which shows all tumours stable 4 out of the 6 smaller so treatment working haven't lost hair just finer and also on letrozole. There are new treatments always being researched. I know it's horrible but hope and successful outcomes are there. Liz xx

just diagnosed with secondary cancer in bones and liver

Hi

I was originally diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in August 2015.  I had 6 months chemo, a mastectomy and full node clearance followed by radiotherapy.  I had a year of herceptin and have been taking tamoxifen since my mastectomy.  I had been feeling fine and wanted to try getting fit so attended a fitness class but after the class I had a sore hip, doctor kept telling me it was a sprain and to do physio exercises.  after two months they eventually sent me for an xray.  I am now back under my breast cancer consultants and just been told I have secondary in my bones and liver.

I am absolutely devastated and dont know how to deal with this.  I have an appointment this week with my oncologist to discuss the treatment options they have.  I just keep thinking its going to be like last time and lose my hair etc even although the breast nurse says i may not necessarily have the same treatment. I dont know if its all the bone scan and xrays but Im not finding pain in my ribs and what feels like a pressure under my ribs which I am assuming is from my liver.

I just wanted to join the forums as they were so helpfull the last time round and people gave so much good advice.
