I am not fed up of pink october........it raises awareness so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if they did not have pink october once you have been dx with IT, it is hard to think of anything else,so what difference does october make???????????? hiya belle50,I am just over a year after surgery now and can do most things,just a little uncomfy in certain clothes,but as regards to normal things,I mow the lawn,carry my 7 yr old to bed if he falls asleep,most things really,i have been on the trampoline with him too but cant say i really enjoyed it,i think i am scared of falling or something and injuring myself.I had the pedicle tram flap,scars healed well and boobs look good. x ... hi jenny,i had the same surgery,you must have had a better surgeon.....ha ha.mine took 12 hours.Yes,this is completely normal,I went for a job interview at 9 weeks post op and remember just feeling like i could stand straight then.Its just over 12 months now and its not tight,but a little uncomfy still when i try to wear jeans etc.There r other people on here that seem to have recovered quicker than me,but i feel 'almost' great now,left boob is a little uncomfy but i think this may be due to having lymph nodes removed.Just a quick reminder,at initial dx I had left mastectomy and lived a year like that(one boob) hated it.And a year ago had mastectomy on the right and recon at same time.I dont regret having it done ,I like having two boobs.The op wiped me out too and i really feel for you at this time but i am sure you will think it was all worth it. x x ... Hi poppyjasper, You had an ultrasound which shows up EVERYTHING,better than mammograms(in younger people),can you still feel the lump?But dont forget,boobs are weird and lumpy sometimes anyway,and you have had the best check.So I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you should just forget it and get on with your life,as I am sure it would have showed up on the ultrasound if there was anything to worry about.And the fact that it didnt is a brilliant sign for you. take care and if I were you I wouldnt worry at all. x x ... I had mastectomy then recon,and spent a fortune trying to find the right bra,infact I can start my own market stall on bras that are brand new.Anyway after trying marks and spencer etc I found the best ones at sainsburys,5 pound,they do have bones in but are comfy ,lacy,look nice and give real shape to the recon,they only had them in black and white,just thought i would share that x ... It is a big slash from hip to hip and you get a new belly button as when they take the skin from your tummy it has to be pulled together so unless we all wanted a belly button just above our knickers they make a new one.lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... View more

Personally I think I have got to the stage were I think...........what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought this mag today and read the article,I didnt take offence to it,but may have if i hadnt had my recon ,as I hated having no boobs,and did go through a stage of thinking why have they got boobs and I havnt,but since recon have not felt that once.I think we do get a little touchy towards women with a cleavage,big or small when we have been through mastectomy,but I got over it,and am sure other people have too.she was just having a dig back at someone because she has big boobs and they dont,because kate moss made a comment about fake boobs,aka big boobs.be them real or fake thats what she was having a dig at.I feel another storm brewing............ ... Hi ostrich, I had the pedicle tram a year ago now,and chose this over ld or implants,as I thought it best to stick to my own tissue etc,even though its a longer op,mine took 12 hours but had right mastectomy at same time,having already had left mastectomy the year before,so double recon,i was reading too much about implants being rejected and having to be replaced etc,just wanted closure to the whole thing and although it was very uncomfortable at first its settled down now,but I have never regretted having it done and they look good(in a bra).Someone else has posted on the recon threads about having diep after ld 4 years on,so yet again another story where it didnt work.But i am sure there are plenty of ladies it has been fine for,so see if you get any other answers. debbi x ... I was told to use condoms for about a month and then no need as you cant get pregnant,I take tamoxifen and zoladex too.Been on it over 2 years now,and just followed there advice. ... View more

Hi nikki,they never even said anything about diep,just said that tram was the best option for me so just agreed with them and went for it.I had two boobs made from it,but had mastectomys seperate,first on the left side in june 06,just to recap and second at same time as recon,the one on the left is a little hard underneath from scar tissue from first mastectomy but other than that they r soft and feel totally normal,albeit with no nipples. x just ask if u want to know anything else,I wish we could put photos on here as I think that would be really helpful to,I have just joined a new group bcpals,where u can do this,which is far better,more helpful,they cant read ur private messages or anything,unlike on here,this will prob get deleted now ... I had tram,and I was only a size 12,with 34b boobs,its been a long recovery,nearly a year now and still slight discomfort,and I am now a d cup,and I was by no ways fat.its mainly the tummy thats uncomfortable,cant wear jeans etc,well not my usual jeans anyway,but the 'having 2 boobs'makes up for the pain,I hated having one boob,it was awful,for me anyway,I am sooooo happy with my recon and would not change my decision for anything.I had mine done at selly oaks,birmingham.But I live in suffolk,which is a pain cos still go to birmingham for my after care and I am having nipples done soon,so going back there,let the same surgeon finish the job....... ...
