Hi I am 40 so youngish. Have two children 4 and 6 and a Paediatric Nurse. Was diagnosed 30th July with grade 3 30mm idc with DCIS (no clear margins form DCIS) so opted for mastectomy with immediate recon and removal of lymph nodes. Found another area of IDC 1.5mm not known about and 12/29 lymph nodes affected. (not bad as presented with arm pain!!). Hormone positive, HER2 neg. Have just completed my chemo - which was doable - definelty more good days than bad. Awaiting to start rads. Paula - Good Luck for this afternoon - let us know how you get on. Hi Rebecca I was given a similar prognosis to you. I initially had a wle and snb to be told - margins clear for IDC but you have extensice DCIS too and lymph node involvement. Decided on mastectomy and recon - to find another area of idc not known about (although small 1.5mm). Had 12/29 lymph nodes positive - grade 3. Have just completed chemo (3 fec and 1 tax, 1 abandoned tax due to allergic reaction and 2 CMF). Now on 4 week break before commencing rads. I am ER+ and PR+ but HER2 -. So tamoxifen for me. As the girls have said - stats are just numbers - we are all individual - I do have some dark days - but have decided to try and enjoy life to the full. Hi Rebecca I was diagnosed last July and my two were 3 and 5. It has not been easy but as people say take all the help offered. We too did not have family near by but I have truly found out who my true friends are. In a way I suppose I was lucky as my oldest had just done a year at school and my friends from there have been fantastic. We too could not afford childcare - but I have just got through 3 fec, 1 tax, 1 abandoned tax (allergic reaction) and 2 CMF, on a 4 week break and then 6 weeks of rads. Think in terms of childcare this is going to be hardest as it is every day for 6 weeks. 5 year old at school but 3 year old only at pre school. Have a 2 hour round trip without treatment. Hi I am Anne - aged 40 diagnosed 30th july 2007, WLE and SNB - clear margins on IDC grade 3 but large area of DCIS and SNB positive. Opted for mastectomy with recon - 12/28 lymph positive, another 1mm area of IDC (not known about previously). ER+ and PR+ HER2 -. just finished 3 fec and 1 tax, 1 abandoned tax as anaphalytic reaction and 2 CMF. Due to start rads in 4 weeks and tamoxifen. Surprisingly feel well - although rough at times on chemo - but it was much more doable than I thought. Have two children 6and 4 and a lovely OH.(been married 20 years!) Hi Maugiff Welcome to this fab site. Glad your 1st chemo went ok. WHat regime have they put you on. I am just coming to the end of mine and can homestly say it has not been as bad as I imagined. The time has also gone really quickly. I too never bothered with the cold cap - have been wearing bandanas.. Margaret - may hair came back on taxotere. Although lost eyelashes. Hi Charlotte Know what you mean about the boiled egg look!!! Have also put on weight with the steriods (although always have issues with my weight anyway!!). So do not look that good - also feel more tired the longer this goes on. Perhaps we can cyber hold hands for the rads. The aqueous cream sounds good. Have planning 7th March for all th markings. How long are you having rads for? I initially had wle and got clear margins on the IDC but also found a large area of DCIS with no clear margins - and SNB positive - so opted for mastectomy and aux clearance (could not face another op if they did not get clear margins again). Lucky I did as they also found 1.5mm grade 3 IDC that had not showed up anywhere. Orginial 30mm IDC - also grade 3 and 12 lymph nodes involved and vascular invasive. I understood that vascular invasion went hand and hand with lypmph node involvement. Buy also had 15 clear lymph nodes. I have done alot of research and I am fully aware of my prognosis, but stats are stats and after I got my head around it all and with the fantastic support everyone has given on here have decided - to live for today and make the most of everything. I can not change what is going to happen and every day prognosiss are getting better as treatment is getting better. I met someone the other day - who had a very similar diagnosis to me - but 13 years ago - and is well and continuing to live life to the full. Hi India I had a massive allergic reaction to 2nd dose of taxotere after just 3 mls. So have been changed to cmf. (had 3 fec, 1 tax and 2 cmf). Spoke to oncologist at length about this - but he told me due to the type of reation I had - I was more at risk form having the tax than not. There is definetly alteratives oout there. Hi Charlotte Welcome to this fantastic site. I was diagnosed July 2007 and following two operations which resulted in a mastectomy with lD recon and aux clearance - I too am coming near to the end of my chemo. I am starting to feel quite nervous - strange really. a friend of mine went through all this 2 years ago and she said she felt exactly the same. I suppose in a way - at least whilst having chemo we are killing those little b...... - it is when it all stops it makes us think. So no you are not alone (do not think it help when everyone says - bet you are pleased you are near the end of chemo!!) I too have two young children - my days are so busy I do not have time to think - but when they ar ein bed is when my mind goes into overdrive. I have 6 weeks of rads noxt - starting 25th March. Hi Everyone Hope you are all ok. I have ha a busy week as feel well so making the most of it. My cmf dates are the 13th and 20th feb and then finish the c tablets 27th Feb. Hi Cally - I have my rads planning 7th March and starting the 25th March. Having 6 weeks - how long are you having? A bit of a pain but have one weeks appointments 11.20, two weeks 11.40 and then three weeks 10.30 so hoping on the last three weeks can do school drop off and then pick up 12md for pre-school. (it is an hours journey - so will see - do have back up plan if not back). The Easter hols will be a bit of a pain but husband is shift worker so hopefully will be able to work something out -both Grandparents have offered to have them for a couple of nights each to help out so hopefully will be ok. only problem is they live 90 minutes way. What are you going to do? Feel a bit guilty as last summer was pants as diagnosed 30th July, xmas not fantastic as had tax 21st Dec - now rads - but never mind - hopefully things can only get better! Hi everyone Hope everyone is well. Louisa - glad 1st tax went ok. Whitehlx - I too did the same as you - managed 1 tax and had really bad anaphalytic reaction dose two - so was changed CMF for 2 cycles. Cally - hope you are feeling better after tax number 2. I am sorry I can not remember everyone - I have had one cycle of CMF - was not too bad - usual feeling sick and yuk mouth - tend to feel bad day 4-8. Now on rest period - due back 13th and 20th Feb and then that is it - onto 6 weeks or rads!! Have an hours journey each way for that - so trying to get organised for childcare.
