Kanga, so understand what you mean about wanting to be young with your Mum to help. I am sure many of us feel that way too. Mum's have a knack of making things seem better. My Mum is still alive but has dementia so can't share with her but have such wonderful memories of her that are very special. Getting up early after actually having some sleep, getting shopping and not spending as much as expected, visit from a friend and a walk round the village which we haven't done for ages, getting home 5 minutes before the heavens opened, lunch together then going for a coffee at eldest son's followed by picking up youngest son, girlfriend and daughter and then having roast pork etc. Now sat with a coffee and my darling daughter. Hi to all, thanks for your comments re poem. I wrote it last week when I had so many thoughts buzzing through my head and it did help writing it down. Have felt on a bit of a rollercoaster since New Year and have struggled to do much other than work. Decided on Monday that I had to give myself a kick up the *rs* (or vickie might turn up to do it !!)so started a diet and went to the gym On Thursday Mary and I went to a Zumba class which is basically a cross between aerobics and dance. It was brilliant and we are going again Tuesday and Thursday. Actually agreed to go on a date yesterday but it was a bit of disaster. He was a nice guy but didn't fancy him. We went for a coffee in the afternoon and got on really well so agreed to go for a drink in the evening. He picked me up at 8 and went to local pub. After about 20 minutes he sneaked his arm around my back and hand started to move up so told him he was being a bit presumptious !! He then said I confused him as he couldn't work out if I fancied him so told him I liked him but didn't really fancy him so he got stroppy with me. Was home and in my pj's by 9 !!!!! Have been reading all the posts and hope everyone is starting to feel a bit stronger. Hello to the new ladies, good to see you joining the mad bunch !! been reading and feeling for everyone going through the mill. Things have seemed very hard lately. I sat and wrote how I feel the other day and judging by the posts over the past few days maybe this is the time to share. Will apologise in advance if my words upset anyone but here goes. I look in the mirror but don't kmow the person looking back at me She has short grey hair but mine is long and dark She has a scarred and lumpy breast, mine might not be as pert as they were but hey they are ok She has a stomach way too big but I have a small one She is single but I have a partner who always be here for me. She plans her funeral and the songs that will be sung. I don't She worries that she won't see her darling daughter grow up. I am too mad and bad to die young She is scared to socialise but I am the one that arranges great nights out She has a heart that doesn't work properly but I have a strong heart physically and emotionally She cries too often but I only cry at sad films and daft moments She has no confidence but I know what I want and go for it She wants to hide away but I love to be out and about She feels rejected by family and friends but I have loads of mates The problem is the person in that mirror looking back is me. Teresa, don't be so hard on yourself. My partner walked out on me 3 days after my first op and then came back and forward for nearly 8 months. I blamed myself for it for ages but actually he is a total w*nk*r who still tries to contact me and crawl back but I won't let him. He told me he couldn't cope with how much I had changed, and yes I know I have, but actually if he had truly loved me he would have supported me. I can't know exactly what you have gone through but know it is a very tough journey and at times we have to be selfish to protect ourselves from the emotional turmoil we are going through. Hi ladies, am just about to start packing a bag as off to Butlins in less than 3 hours for the New Year so doubt I will be back on before next year now. Just wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year and here's to a better 2011 than 2010. Have had a good xmas although Mary has been poorly so came back from her Dad's after 1 day instead of 3. All my plans went out the window but I didn't really mind. Was actually glad in a way as it gave me an excuse to not have to socialise which I was quite nervous about. 18 months ago I would have been the organiser and the life and soul but not got that part of me back yet. I am 10 months down the line but at first I was so scared about losing my hair as it was way below my bra line. Bought a really expensive wig before starting chemo. 10 days after 1st chemo was poorly in hosp and sat literally pulling my hair out and putting in the bin. Within 3 weeks had my head shaved and actually it was quite liberating. Wore my wig 4 times only and just wore bandana's. have just spent a very reflective hour looking through this thread right from the beginning when I was so scared and about to start chemo, through all the problems that brought and the problems with the very definitely now ex oh.
