Hi SGL,
I've already msgd/spoken to you on FB, but wanted to say how I don't understand how yr consultant could tell you what yr treatment plan would be before the pathology reports were back....I thought those kind of decisions were made between consultant surgeons and oncologists AFTER resuls were back.....was definetly out of the ordinary. I should think, for a consultant to give that kind of information without having the facts ie., grading etc.,
My consultant told me what could happen in worse case scenario but added he couldn't say what my treatment plan would be until after pathology results.....raddiotherapy was a definate from beginning but Chemo and Tamoxifen were decided AFTER results.
Like you the thought of chemo completey freaked me out....although, strangely I wasn't worried about losing my hair....it was just the thought of chemo/side effects etc.,...I had FEC and fortunately had NO bad reactions at all!!
Takes a while to get yr head round it...but as many have said it is doable.....I was put on anti-depressents, Tamazepam....and before chemo was administered I was given a Lorazepam tablet at oncology to calm me down.....7 yrs on I still take anti-depressents, Diazepam and sleeping tablets.....may seem weak to some to still be on these...but as my GP says....they enable me to maintain a normalish life and continue with my job....and help with the demons that still lurke.
Do seek help/counselling.....we have a wonderful new Maggies Centre now....I wish we had it when I was first DX...they offer all kinds of support.
DO NOT....compare your dx with anyone elses....everyones case is individual to them.
Take care.
