And I started to wonder whether my sciatica pains were down to denosumab. They're not either. Disc fragments from a spinal lesion pressing on nerves! I moved to denosumab cos my veins are rubbish. I understand it is more expensive, it's fairly new but is getting good results. I find it so much easier than an infusion and for me, no side effects.

Really sorry, I can't answer your question, but my sciatica type pain got so bad that I ended up being admitted as the oncologist thought it was possibly a compressed spine. Anyway after an MRI, it turns out to be a disc fragment problem and hopefully nothing to do with the denosumab. The nerve block injection I had 2 weeks ago is just starting to work, and I am due my denosumab injection on Monday. Hopefully this won't make any difference to the pain and so I can rule out the denosumab is making things worse.

Oh my goodness, you have just described what I am going through now! About a week ago my left hip and thigh area were painful and then since Tuesday I have had intense pain going down my thigh with numbness. Saw my oncologist on Wednesday, have had x rays, nothing broken, an ultrasound to rule out a dvt and now waiting for an MRI. With painkillers I get about and hour and a half respite in every three and the only way I am comfortable is flat on my back. How bizarre and how worrying, will phone my oncologist later, see what he has to say x

Sorry I can't help you with any advice, I am having mine done at the hospital. I didn't know there was an option to get my GP to do it, but to be honest am happier to go to the hospital, but then it is only a very short drive from home.

Hi Belinda, I did know it was SBC day on Sunday but only because I have been recently diagnosed with bone mets so have been reading this forum. I saw my oncologist yesterday for only the second time since my diagnosis in June. I asked about a specialist nurse, there isn't one in our hospital, if I hadn't found our Maggie's centre I would have felt totally abandoned. It seems a real shame to me that so little research money is spent on metastatic breast cancer, when such a high percentage of women go on to get it, many of them still young who should have years ahead of them. Thanks for starting this thread, fingers crossed next years campaign is a little more high profile. X

Hi there, I had my first denosumab yesterday after switching from zometa (?). I had it in my upper arm, not really painful going in and just a small bruise this morning and so far no side effects at all. Fingers crossed! Marion

Hi all, that sounds like good news on the skull mets Belinda, I don't know why but they do seem to worry me more. Oops, pressed post too soon! Was going to say, have finally started some treatment for bony mets. Letrazole and zolendronic acid, will scan me in a few months to see what is going on. Had a horrendous month, open surgery to get a biopsy as its such a long time since my primary. Recovered from that and then got an infection in my wound, recovered from that and picked up C diff infection from somewhere. Had a dreadful 6 days in hospital and thought I was never going to be able to start some treatment. However, home now, recovering again and got back my sense of humour and onwards and upwards mentality. On a positive, I have lost a few excess pounds and all my lovely family have made it to Wales to look after me, although my youngest son turns out to be a useless nurse! Marion
