I believe I am alive because of my sister, twice (maybe 3 times if I prove to be BRCA +)
She developed BC at 35 and again at 38 and died 2 months after her 40th birthday. Since she was diagnosed I had mammograms every year and after 10 years of them, I was diagnosed, I had felt no lump and neither had my gynecologist.(mastectomy and chemo) 7 years on and I'm here again (mastectomy last week and waiting for results next week. I had my annual check up early this year because I needed to be referred to a genetic dept as my niece, who was 3 when her Mum died, is now 16 and wants to know her chances, so I needed to get tested. I must admit 7 years on and I was getting complacent, and certainly not feeling any lump. I may not have bothered with a check up until the autumn this year.....
And if I am BRCA + I suppose I will be facing ovarerectomy (or what ever its called )

I got it done when I got my diagnosis, so I was completely hair free for the op. I hope this was OK

One step at a time, although I know the waiting game is difficult, I'm still waiting for the results and to know what treatment I will need. And your treatment has begun properly, after all they have cut out the cancer, the chemo is to kill off any little bu..ers that escaped.

Went to the out patients dept to get my dressing re-done (op last Thursday) and the very kind and pleasant nurse said " well no one dies of breast cancer any more, do they ?" And I really think she believed it ! So cheer up every one, you are going to die of old age.

Hi Sandra,
Yes I am on top form, bruised. sore, scared, you name it, I've got it, trying to keep busy, but I've got no dogs to walk, just a very sweet girl (my son's girl-friend who has come to stay to look after me and my younger son), to take to the train station so she can go to an interview, as she is hoping to become a mid-wife.
But laughter is the best medicine, so I am glad I gave you a smile.
So you are thinking of a talking intellectual book or an intellectual talking book ! That must be a first for us ladies who really need a little light entertainment. All I can say is thank goodness for spell checkers on my computer, other wise I don't think i could even participate on these forums.
Seriously though, it seems this re-doing of margins is no big deal as far as the hospital is concerned (it is for us, though) , is it not done under general anesthetic ?
I send you all that is positive and hugs and stuff.

All the best for tomorrow, I'll be thinking about you. Take the diazepam, don't wait to see find you are just the same in an hour .... Doesn't help with the concentration though, I don't seem to have a brain at all at the moment, but at least with the diazepam I don't care !

Yes I am back, tired, weak and weepy. My boys are fine, they had a good time without me !
But I'm OK. The best thing about having it a 2nd time around, that is is not as bad. Only 2 nodes out, so my arm is OK. I see the surgeon in 10 days time, when he will have the results and I will get to know if I need chemo etc. I was fine until an acquaintance phoned me to say she had been in the same boat (!?) last week, but one of her nodes was positive so she had to have another 17 out, not the news I needed to hear right now.......
However I felt all your thoughts and good vibes come though to me, when I was having a bluesy moment, all of a sudden it went, it must have been all your energy. Thank you so much.
Goodness there are some sad new posts, If you read this just know I am thinking about every single one of you, but do not have the strengh to write more now

I went with my Mum ( who had a mastectomy 2 years before me) to Nicola Jane in Chichester. They were really helpful and now I buy on line from them at nicolajane.com. They have every size, shape and form.
Good luck with finding something that is comfortable and pretty.

Been there myself last time around. I was prescribed relaxing sleeping pills and took them until chemo finished and I found I did not need them once I was feeling better. So don't be afraid to ask for something, we can't be strong all the time.

Thankyou so much for your positive thoughts, I am so glad all is now well with you. It gives me something to look forward to, and for the tips on swimming prosthesis. I have always bought my stuff at nicolajane.com. Never knew ASDA did stuff too.
I went for my radioactive injection to find the sentinel node today, had to drive 100 miles round trip, and they couldn't find what they were looking for. Not a bad sign they said, just that my anatomy is not the text book sort. Great, I thought, but I am a bit tearful now, so glad when it will be all over, the op, I mean. Each stage, at a time.
Lots of love to you and every one else who is rooting for me. If i can't sleep tonight I'll be back, if not it will be next week, look after yourselves.

Unfortunately mine isn't. I've got to tell my Down's syndrome son that Mum is going to hospital, luckily not where Papa (his Dad) died 10 months ago. His big brother has come home to look after him while I am away. I expect it is difficult for him too. I hope to be back early next week, but you never know. Don't know how I am going to cope when I start chemo, but one step at a time.
