What advice has anyone been given about wearing compression garments during chemotherapy? My Lymphoedema nurse has said to wear it if i want to but no treatment as such can be given by them during chemo as you never know what you are pushing around the system and where. Is this your experience folks? I am a bit confused. ... View more

Hi Have you seen anyone about the lymphoedema? A compression garment might be helpful - sorry if you already know this or have done this but it certainly helped me and at the moment my pain and swelling is quite well controlled. Is it possible that the pain could be cording? You could also talk to BCN Hope you get some releif soon. ... View more

Hi Ros 53 Chemo went ok and did not go with cold cap. Seeing wig lady again tomorrow and will get remaining hair cut short and go with wig and scarves and "just get on with it". My first wig via the nhs was awful so have found another person and decided whatever I have to pay i don't mind as long as it is me when i am wearing it - so it s coming from Germany so awell travelled wig. When I had some cording I found it really useful to stretch out my arm to the side at about shoulder level with my hand also stretched back - if that makes sense and although it was uncomfortable it really helped but I know we are all different might be worth a try. To all you folk out there who have used the cold cap - need some advice. I used it for my first chemo and have lost about 70% of hair and now it has stopped coming out. Concerned about next time as there is very little hair to protect my scalp from the cold and think it will be painful?? Also will more hair come out after the next chemo?? What are your experiences? Hi Ros53 - I have been for bloods today so hopefully my next chemo is on Wednesday.We always seem to have big staff shortages - appointment for bloods to day was 11.45 was actually seen at 1.15 not good.I had some cording initially and just stretched it out which was uncomfortable but seemed to work - it might be worth talking to your BCN or a physio depending who you have access to. 70% of hair fell out after one FEC and the cold cap so have decided not to continue with the cold cap as my poor scalp will have no hair to protect it so bring on the wigs and scarves. It amazes me how everybody's treatment is so different yet in many ways the same. I have had no problems really but then only having half as many as you - always do it at night in case any side effects - was warned about flu type symptoms so ppresumablyI haven'thad any or  have slept through them. ... Hi Mags2 I had my seroma drained on 8 occasions and it did not seem to affect the healing. Each tme it got less and always felt more comfortable so I would say if the offer is there then go with it. Some NHS trusts don't like draining but many do so defintiely go with it don't suffer unnecessarily. ... View more

Thanks for the help with managing my painful scalp - today I think is the day when what I have left comes off! My saddest point about this because yes I know it will grow again is I am an identical twin - we have the same hair as well as evrything else feature wise so it will be like a temporary loss - maybe only a twin can realise what that means. On the positive the scalp will hopefully stop aching and itching and a slightly different hairstyle might be good for me. Hi Ros I asked if there was anything I can do about the WBC but there isn't other than keep checking my temp. Apparently quite common and I hadnot really factored it into planning things - like husband's diary to take me etc. Hair coming out ++ so sleep in a very attractive night cap - better than a mouthful of hair. Was going to go with the coldcap today but will seehow much is left by next week and if my new wig is good then might just shave off and coverup lol. ... View more
