Hi   I felt exactly the same as you. I've had a mastectomy (11/4) and was supposed to be having reconstruction at the same time but unfortunately due to other complications failed. It was agreed with my surgeon if that was the case during the op to reduce on the left and reconstruct the right in the future.    I contacted the breast care nurses and plastic surgeon on a few occasions before hand until I understood completely what the treatment plan was.  If I hadn't and the op had turned out as it did I don't think I would've coped at all.  I'm still not clear what the reconstruction process is from here but have a check up on Tuesday and will be asking again.  I really believe unless it's completely clear and you understand what's going to happen it will have a detrimental effect on you emotionally.  Everyone has been so patient, understanding and helpful I haven't felt I was being a nuisance.    Its hard enough to cope with everything and retain what you're being told so take all the help available to you.  Wishing you all the very best  KJ  xx  ... Hi Rachael I was Diagnosed in May 18 with 3 different types of BC over a 4 week time period, I was initially told I had DCIS, then a week later it was IDC, then a week later it was IBC. I was very confused for 5 weeks, then oncologist confirmed it was DCIS with a mix of IDC, with lymph node involvement. I had 3 months 3 weekly EC, then weekly Paclitaxal. During chemo, my lymph nodes shrunk significantly, however the chemo only partially reduced the tumour. I had a Mx in December, with clean margins and 5 lymph nodes removed. Surgeon confirmed he got all the cancer out, I now start radiotherapy in the next week, then hormone treatments. It can be very confusing initially, however once the medical team know what they are dealing with, they always have your best interests at heart. I have supported my treatments with Acupuncture, Manual lymphatic drainage, Spiritual healing, homeopathy and herbal medicine. I feel good, no longer toxic because the cancer is out. Hello Justine ,it's very hard having to deal with cancer a second time (been there myself and it feels very unfair ) the good news is that this a very likely to be pre -invasive cancer and have a very successful outcome .My experience from talking to ladies on the forum is that they will not consider a double mastectomy lightly and you will be required to go through counselling first which will delay surgery ,but there are a number of ladies on the forum who have gone down that route .Good luck with your treatment whatever you decide.
